Solo - Jerarda's experience's in Sauti

There comes a time when a person encounters new things, and they typically they aren't sure how to deal with them. Jerarda wasn't your average person, when something new or surprising came across her the woman's typical reaction was to delegate two options. One: Can I impress it? Two: If not can I smash it? Sauti was full of new experience's the lack of tree's had at first been troublesome, as none of her people were use to such a barren landscape.

The ...lack of obvious animals was second. Besides there being a whole lot of ROCKS, little plant life they were soon finding their food supplies running very low. A dangerous thing, though they were experts of the lands and would figure out what they could eat fairly quickly. Or so Jerarda thought. As the days passed and the food dwindled Jerarda quickly started excursions to see if she could find or locate food. Thus far the only animals she had spotted were large birds of prey that glided up in the sky far beyond their reach.

But the birds had to have something to eat, else how could they exist? The alkidike tried to study them, watch them...for they must come down at some point to eat...or drink. Even as she tried to do this the poor alkidike woman was too bored to keep it up for long. Minutes past into an hours and the blasted bird didn't come down once...meanwhile Jerarda felt like she was being cooked alive in the sun.

Sighing she figured the birds must nest as well...and perhaps she could find eggs and gather them. Turning her attention to one that actually appeared to be heading somewhere rather than just gliding uselessly around she stalked it to a rock face ledge and seeing the spattering of white feces against the purple this seemed a likely place to start searching. Looking up she climbed and believing this was a tree she was climbing rather than rock she pretended she was back home in her trees.

Jerarda soon learned that the birds were in fact highly territorial of their nests. They seemed to blossom out of the sky, materializing out of no where. Jerarda had to quickly abandon her quest for nests as claws and beaks came at her in a flurry of feathers, taking the shortest route down she found her hands suffered the brunt of the wounds as she managed to scale quickly back down to the earth floor. Glad that the bandages wrapped around her hands prevented most of the pain and cuts the tips of her fingers bled slightly. Jerarda didn't have any chance to really dwell on it as the birds were intent now to drive her away.

On the ground she tried to fight the birds off, but hand to hand combat really was ineffective against and aerial attack, where your opponent had claws for weapons and you only soft flesh. The alkidike woman was forced away from the nests and pursued until the birds were relatively satisfied with the distance before finally turning and flying back. Taking a breath Jerarda had to think on this encounter. Okay if there were THAT many birds then there must be something they eat out here.

Sitting down on a hill of rock she hrmed trying to think of what it could possibly be that the birds ate. Small rodents? That was a possibility, since there were many places rodents could hide in the rock face but that would take a lot of rodents to feed her people as well seem less than epic... Scratching at her head she figured she needed to shave the sides of her head again if she didn't want it to grow in. Maybe she could pause to work on that for a bit.

Jerarda was about to stand up when the earth under her feet shifted, caught off guard she stumbled and instinctively rolled down the rock hill she had taken refuge on. Springing into action as soon as she hit the ground she looked around as if challenging the one who had disturbed her rest. Seeing no one and noticing the ground was no longer moving she looked down...blinked and then jumped back. Her feet or toes rather had been inches in front of a craggy mouth. It was a creature she had been sitting upon though it seemed rather slow moving...and very much more rock than creature.

The rumbling she had felt was it moving, and there was a grinding noise that was coming from the creature as well, upon closer inspection it looked as if it was eating..the rocks around it. It was slow moving and seemed to be one with the earth, Jerarda would of marveled at the creature if she wasn't now pondering if it was eatable. Reaching out she touched it, since she had been sitting on it she didn't fear it suddenly lashing out at her.

As predicted the creature ignored her, little pieces of it actually crumbling away from where she touched but it wasn't like the skin was sloughing off, no..it was actually real stone, it was a true wonder and she watched it as it moved slowly and away from her as if she had trespassed on its paradise and rather than fight for it just move on. It it moved faster she may actually care about where it went, but her attention span was just not there for it and thus they parted ways.

This place sure did have ...strange creatures, then again anyone when into the forest's of Jahaur could say similar things with their monstrous insects but since she was so use to their appearance she could hardly call them interesting. This thing was interesting but...didn't capture her interest for long. The search for food continued, well into the day and though the sun wasn't as hot as in Tale but it was enough to to make the the alkidike miss the humidity of the forests of home.

Home.

That was something she hadn't thought on in awhile, the familiar trees, the people the great Tree Mother...would they ever see them again? In her heart she knew they would, but there was a small inkling that they would continue to explore the lands until there is nothing left to discover. Jerarda though truely just wanted to test her might with every person she came across, she would prove that she was the strongest in the land. Though she would miss the tree's, her other sisters still at home...the great Tree Mother Aisha..

Moving aimlessly and allowing her antenna to navigate for her she thought of her homeland and was in such a state she didn't slow or stop until the tips of her toes were suddenly cold and wet. Blinking she looked down to discover she had found a very modest watering hole. The water was clear and didn't look like it had been touched in a long while. Bending down she allowed the water to touch her lips and she drank slowly cringing slightly at the metallic taste it left in her mouth.

It was water though and she couldn't deny her thirst, if she had brought a water skin she could of brought some home with her, perish the thought of bringing it with her, and thinking ahead, oh how Phenyo would scold her and tell her how predictable she was. Jerarda however just sighed and let her fingers strum through the water, flicking it into her face to help get the feeling of dirt and dust off of her. It wasn't deep enough to wash properly.

Looking down at it she marveled at how fast her hair was growing in and made a note to shave when she got the next chance. Checking around the watering hole she looked for any obvious signs of tracks, she found a few small prints..but none were recently, the few larger ones she spotted...she could not make hide nor hair of what kind of creature could make such tracks. Perhaps it was like that rock beast she had come across? A ..smaller one than the one she had seen before...but it could be.

Taking a deep breath she looked around noting her own foot prints making their way around the watering hole before leading off and away the way she had come. She supposed it was a good time as any to make her way back, she could inform the others of the water she found, though she didn't think there would be enough to last them all but it would at least refill the water skins for the time being.

Solo - I hate to think...

The day had just begun, the sun rising from the east and there was an alkidike woman who was restless unable to sleep and now was sneaking off from the rest of her people. Upon coming here they had discovered that the air was cooler the land fairly barren of life and they had to cluster together at night to keep warm. Being that there were no tree's to sleep under or in most felt uncomfortable and exposed to the night air.

Jerarda to be brutally blunt didn't like being confused. In fact having her emotions beyond 'I am the best at everything' to 'why are people stupid and annoying?' Made her very gruff, violent and short with people. Being in unfamiliar territory didn't help matters as there were no true tree's she could go skulk or vent. Besides Rishima, everyone seemed to be irritated by Jerarda's presence, no one was giving her the respect she deserved and she had yet to hear one thank you for the food they had brought. On this occasion she was sneaking off for some alone time, normally she would keep an eye on Rishima see how well 'she' was working with the group, but today she just didn't want to be around anyone. This could be attributed to her run in with Phenyo, which had instead of being a wonderful reunion had become rather angry quickly. It had rather soured her mood and being viewed as anything but less than excellent was irritating but having her flaws pointed out to her was even more annoying.

Skulking off, she used all the skills she possessed to quietly make her way towards an large outcropping of purple rocks. Looking up at them she figured it was just as good as any tree since none of those could be found around...at least nothing that could support the weight of a full grown person anyway. Jererda set about scaling the largest sheerest rock face as if to ..just to spite Phenyo despite the fact she was no where to be seen. Rebelling against that small voice that had come to belong to her 'best friend' that told her it was dangerous, she would get herself killed and if it wasn't on the way up it would most certainly be on the way down.

Still she scrambled up the rock face, sending rocks tumbling in her wake and once she got to the top she sat herself down on top of it huffing and puffing though sitting up straight as it laying claim to this particular ledge. Once her challenge was unmet, she lay down to stared at the sky, it was so wide and vast she couldn't help but feel rather insignificant. Jerarda wasn't exactly the type who enjoyed that feeling and soon she sat up and looked across the vast lands that was Sauti. It was purple...and a lot or rock...though in the distance she could see a lake...or at least blue that would indicate a water source. At least she figured it must be for in the gloom and having only the moon for light as well the stars she figured the reflection of the light could only be water. It must be what kept most of the critters alive that water source. There would probably be more plants there too...not as much rock.

Jerarda felt her stomach grumble in hunger and she sighed, wishing she had brought water or something to snack on. WIshing even more that she had eaten more fish in the evening meal before bed had seemed the next obvious choice. But Jerarda wasn't the type to plan ahead so now she was here hungry and very alone. With a frustrated look on her fact she sat there for a long moment trying to ignore her hungry belly, before standing up and stretching. Figuring she may as well train, since otherwise her stomach would be very persistent on her going down to look for food. Okay so it was dangerous to be training up on this flat rock face, even Jerarda couldn't ignore the screaming little voice in her head, so she worked slowly for once, trying to think of her progress in her fighting technique. Jerarda had been at this since she was old enough to grasp the concept of fighting and it was completely unique unto her.

Alkidikes were proud women, specializing in spears, bows and magic. Jerarda had wanted to wield any of those since she was old enough to grasp the concept of fighting, but she had been denied. The elders explained that only those old enough and had passed trials were given such things as magic or weapons and so she must be patient and wait for herself to age and mature. Jerarda rebelling in her typical fashion she started to develop her own style of fighting, usually alone until she felt the overwhelming need to show off to someone...that someone was usually Phenyo.

She wasn't allowed to use weapons? Fine, her hands and feet would become her weapons. Jerarda had taken it upon herself to develop this style of fighting and it took...many many years for her to perfect her technique. When she finally felt that she was good enough to show everyone she faced quite a bit of ridicule and raised eyebrows at her skills. It was unorthodox, going against every rule and tradition the Alkidikes had. Some wondered if she was deliberately trying to rile the spirits or show dis-respect towards the great Tree Mother. Neither being what Jerarda was aiming for, Jerarda wanted to prove she was an untamed spirit and that if you put a rule in front of her she would find a way around it. Jerarda had showed them though, going from a very rambunctious youngling, one who barely listened to anyone, had the attention span of a gnat she actually dedicated a part of every day to her 'training'.

At this moment she was going through her steps, her movements, kicks, hand punches, leg sweeps. The dust rose about her as she went through her routine that she had been putting off since she began traveling. It was perhaps the only time she seemed singly focused and serious where she could actually be seen being a reliable leader someone you could trust to remain calm and level headed when it came to battle. Perhaps a diamond in the rough was too elequant to describe her, for there would be many many layers of grim on that diamond before it would shine.

Jerarda had a lot of growing up to do, much like a spoiled child who had done everything she ever wanted, never stopped to think about others as she had and always will be the most important one. Before she could even be considered for any leading role she needed to realize the world was NOT about her but about everyone as a whole. As she moved the dust around her rose, and soon she was forced to stop for the dust was getting into her nose and her eyes. Waving it away irritated, she wiped the sweat off her brow and went back to sitting.

Her stomach growled but she ignored it, looking over the expanse of purple rock, she assumed she should be in awe of the landscape but in truth she found it rather predictable and boring. Rocks. There were a lot of rocks. Having time to think she pondered her life choices since thinking about Phenyo would just sour her mood again.

Alkidikes typically followed a calling, moving from prentince, to blade, from blade to warrior and then you got to choose whither you wanted to be a sacred heart or an amazon. Now Jerarda was trying to apply her skills into each of these stages, she knew a weapon would be eventually given to her, some part of her wanted to refuse one after all she was quite capable with her hands and feet. Perhaps a part of her was worried about looking foolish with a weapon...since she would be untrained with it.

Thinking over the classic weapons her people used she figured a spear would do just as well as any other weapon...in fact if she wanted she could just drop it and fight like she normally did. Of course the elder's may frown at her complete disregard of the weapon. The spear was to be sacred as was each weapon. Though the idea of using magic was intriguing.

Jerarda has seen women in her tribe use magic, infusing it in their weapons and she found it very interesting. But Jerarda had no interest in fighting with a weapon or with purely using magic....some how she would need to fuse the two styles together and she looked to her hands wondering just...how she would be able to manage that.

Magic typically worked with runes, you needed the runes to be able to perform magic, or a book and Jerarda was not a reader. The sheer idea of lugging a book around seemed ludicrous. Jerarda intended to be in the front of battles if they were come to pass, not hide in the back whispering some chant. Something fast was what she needed something flashy...

So even if she was out matched she could cow the enemy.

Jerarda didn't normally consider anyone stronger than herself...granted she knew that they must exist for she wasn't that old and most likely it would be an older figure who could beat her in battle. More experience ...or something like that would be lectured upon her she was sure. But Jerarda never admitted weakness, a admirable and less desirable trait in a leader.

Leader...now there was something to think about. Jerarda felt she had done a good job with bringing Rishima into the clan, sure not everyone had appreciated her bringing an outsider in but Jerarda felt she had done good. Looking back up at the night sky she stuck her tongue out at it in a child like fashion. Some day she would prove herself to be a good leader....some day.

Reserved for solo - Rishima's Mother

Watching as Rishima left with his mother, their forms diminishing into the forest gloom it allowed Jerarda to finally release a groan and plant herself on the forest floor her body resting against the bark of the tree behind her. Left with her blossoming bruises and her thoughts she couldn't help but look back in the direction where the duo had disappeared to. Trying to distract herself as she counted the numerous bruises and welts that had be delivered to her upon Rishima. Much to her surprise the boy had held on his own very well, especially since he was such a timid alikidike. Well..half alkidike.

Watching as the bruises darkened her skin was boring and interesting at the same time. Looking back up and back to where the pair had left she felt ...rather at unease.

It is hard to say what she thought of the woman, after all she had been one of her fellow sisters, who had...fell in love? Lied to? Tricked? To be honest she wasn't entirely sure on the details on how Rishima's mother met and then proceeded to mate with a shifter male. The missing puzzle pieces were the types she would need to ask the woman and in fact she should make a note to inquire.

Though she didn't agree with how she had sheltered her offspring, oppressively so..she supposed she had her reasons...though Jerarda wasn't to challenge the woman on her reasons for that as well. Everything about the woman had left a bad taste in Jerarda's mouth and for what reason's she couldn't exactly pin down. Though she supposed it was no wonder why she would remove herself from Chibale island. For she would be sure to be met with disapproving looks at the very least, if not forcefully removed.

Her loyalties would be strained after all, she had mated with a male and produced off spring. Would they still trust her? If Jerarda had been younger she knew she probably would of met the woman with open hostilities like most of her tribe. But Jerarda had trusted Rishima on the spot, without even knowing his history. So why was there that difference? Perhaps it was due to the fact Rishima was...so pathetic. Barely a man and hidden from the world, dad she just felt that he needed to explore the world and grow? And that she had assigned herself to the task of helping him become a proper sister or rather ..brother? In fact she had basically taken on the roll of role model without realizing it. By having Rishima around she had made herself a better alkidike and certainly a more open minded one.

There was a moment of blank in her head as she back peddled over her thoughts, brother. He existed due to a man and woman producing off spring. What exactly did that entail? After all alkidikes were born from lotus's given forth by the mother tree Aisha. So...she knew other races were not born in the same manner so how it was done? There was an embarrassing lack of information on this topic for her and she was forced to think about it. What difference's were there between a man and a woman? Women had breasts and men had...chests. Seeing what was below the waist though Jerarda had ignored that part when she had bathed Rishima so long ago, she knew that part was different as well.

Looking up into the canopy above she felt her head beginning to hurt and she raised a hand to rub her temple. Did she really want to figure it out? Sure she was curious but was it really going to change anything in her life? Not likely. Trying to picture what kind of a 'man' would be able to woe herself she found herself snorting at the concept. Okay lets theorize.

If she was to be wooed by a man what kind of man would she find attractive? Strength immediately came to mind. She would want a man who was at least as strong as herself. Though from her battle with Rishima that had proven she wasn't nearly as strong as she had deemed herself to be. Okay so...strength and then what? Jerarda soon realized she had no idea. Usually she was the one who was the one who made the advances and normally if she was looking at women she liked the ones who were more timid, ones that were 'weaker' or at least she felt needed protection.

Animah came to mind immediately, but she knew she wouldn't go outside of her own kind...at least she didn't think she would. Some how her best friend never came to mind, perhaps it was due to the fact she was so use to Phenyo and her presence she was just oblivious to her friends obvious feelings for her. Plus it was her best friend so it seemed odd to include her in the pool of 'people to get romantically involved with' . But was it odd?

There was a moment when Jerarda realized how much she missed her best friend, things had been rocky since she had left originally on the journey to Zena. Her heart ached and she wondered what the girl was doing right now. Sulking? Right..not likely. Phenyo had too much pride to sulk. They had split up upon reaching Jahaur and Jerarda was slow to realize that perhaps it was due to how much attention she had been paying to Rishima. Could Phenyo of been jealous?

Another pause and Jerarda gave another snort. Nah...Phenyo couldn't be jealous of the half breed...could she? A lot to think about the alkidike rubbed her arm and winced in pain, right the bruises. Left to her own thoughts the poor woman could only ponder.
