Sibling Rivalry Much?

(( AIM RP between Orphe's Jacinthus & Jayoku's Keilana ))

Jacin found himself sitting over a little fire at the foot of the tree where his home was built, his green eyes unblinking, watching as the flames danced around the bugs that he'd been able to catch while in Jauhar. They were the size of his fist, skewered on sticks, and they seemed to be cooking well enough though he had to admit he had no idea how to tell if they were done. Sitting next to them, also skewered on sticks and hanging over the open flames, were some of the tubers that he'd dug up as well. He figured that the best idea was to take all of the stuff that Takoda had showed him and cook it up for himself, wanting to eat it first, to make sure that it was all safe. Better that he got the stomach ache instead of his entire tribe because it turned out one of the things or the other didn't sit well with the digestion of a leaf tribesman like it might a shifter.

"They smell good." He mused to himself, picking up another stick so that he could set to poking at the bug, wondering against how one was supposed to know when it was time to eat them. Unlike other things he'd prepared it didn't seem as though these guys were going to a golden brown color when it was time to remove them from the fire and eat. It was going to be a touch and go thing in which he was going to have to pray that he got right before digging in. The tubers on the other hand, he was pretty sure they were getting close to do and he had a few things sitting nearby that he meant to season those, as well as the bug meat, with to make it taste that much better. All he needed now was a poor, unsuspecting person to be his dinner guest, someone that would share the strange meat of bugs and veggies with him. Ears twitching a little he lifted his head and looked around the area, trying to spot someone that would end up that 'lucky' person who he shared with...

It had been a long hot day, too hot and too long, her feet hurt from walking so far, her back hurt cause she slipped and fell trying to grab a mouse trapped in a snare, the darn bugger was so hoppy and agile she had a b***h of a time trying not to be bit. Keilana almost felt bad having to kill it, it was quite cute. Well until it revealed its sharp teeth, then all sympathy left her and she beat it with a rock. It was in her kill bag. Her other bag josteled full of other random things she had found while out. Many things were shiny, and a few looks promising for what they could use at home. A skull of a creature she couldn't quite recognize but was glad she didn't meet it alive.

As she came upon the one person she cared about in this world she cuffed him in the back of the head before moving to sit down beside him.

"Aaahhh...that feels good." Her voice came out tired and sore as she was, she placed her bag heavily beside her before she peered at the fire her brother was tending. "ohhhhhh is that...a..wait...a bug?" Leaning back Keilana looked repulsed.

Jacin gave a squeak and a jump when he was given the smack, turning instantly to see who was wanting to start in on him, not about to back down... that was until he saw who it was and he found himself relaxing almost instantly, "Hello there, little Kei, good to see that you are back safe and sound." He said in an affectionate manner despite the greeting that she had given him. Were it anyone else he might have started a fight then and there but here... well he didn't want to do anything spoil her he thought to himself before his gaze went back to the fire and he gave a grin, "Yep! I hear that they are supposed to be pretty good for you so I figured I would try a couple of them. If they taste any good that will be another source of meat for us, one that really isn't too terribly dangerous." He said, sounding quite proud of himself and this potential discovery. It would be a wonderful thing if they tasted even remotely in the general area of good.

The look she gave him probably said more than her next words, but sighing she reached her arms over her head and stretched them out. "And I bet whoever told you that was just messing with you, seeing if you would eat one." A sidewise glance and she noticed the unfamiliar tubers cooking as well, her eyebrows furrowed as she looked slightly away. "I don't recognize those bugs or...that root. Just where did you go hunting today?" She inquired sounding nonchalant as if it hardly bothered her that her brother was probably somewhere getting himself in huge amounts of danger or lost. It bothered her more so...was who told her brother to try and eat bugs. BUGS? Seriously now..

"Just messing with me?" He tilted his head to one side in a curious manner, wondering if that were the case. Takoda didn't seem to like bugs at all, maybe he wanted him to go hunting them all done for him? It was possible he supposed but at the same time he didn't seem the sort to try to hurt others or torment them... at least he didn't think so. He had only hung out with the guy for a while, so he could be wrong, but he wanted to believe in him. When he was asked where he'd gone hunting he look from side to side then gave a devious sort of grin, "Further out then you I bet." He told her, making a motion with his hand in the direction that he'd gone.

Scowling she only cuffed him harder on the shoulder to show her annoyance before looking away and picking up her back began to rifle through it as if distracted. He was the only thing that had meaning to her, if she lost him ..well she didn't want to think that far. She took out the few things she gathered, the animal skull most of the razor sharp teeth still intact, a few glittering shards of crystal she managed to dislodge from the earth without cutting herself. "Meanwhile I caught us some meat," She boasted as she emptied the sack showing the two mice bodies and the third looking like it had been..smashed rather thoroughly. The longer though those bugs were cooking the more hungry she found herself being.

Jacin looked over what it was that his sister had brought back with her before his lips turned up into a bit of a grin, "That is a pretty neat looking skull, I have to admit." He said as he gave it a little poke, "That will look great if we hang up in the house." They had all manner of strange things hanging up around their place, various treasures that the two of them had found during their many excursions from place to place. When she dumped out the meat he couldn't help but to give a bit of a laugh, "Well so long as we were both scraping bottom when it comes to the meat that we brought home." He said, unable to help but to be amused. He'd brought back some bugs while Kei had brought back mice, "Maybe they will go well together." He suggested, thinking that a nice 'pest soup' would be both amusing as well as tasty, if they were lucky at least.

He reached over to catch hold of his shirt which he'd made into a makeshift pack, dragging it closer, "I mostly have more of the tubers in here, I dug up a good amount of them, hoping that they would be as good as I was informed that they were. They are mostly supposed to be for stew but I wanted to try them, as well as the bugs, plain before I went wasting all the other ingredients." He explained, "I also brought some various herbs but I dropped those off with the healers already." They weren't something that he knew all that much about but it would seem that thought he'd delivered them to seemed to be pretty happy with them, something he was glad for.

Her hard pretense softened at the compliment of the skull, it was a pretty awesome find wasn't it? Smiling she nodded her head and stretched her fingers out cracking them before looking him over in a side wise glance. Taking out a little knife from her belt she gave a soft chuckle as she began to gut and skin the tiny hapless creatures. Right now all she could think of was how their lives were taken to feed them and how pathetic it felt to be ...doing this to such a small mouthful of protein. Looking over she looked to the roots and shook her head before sighing and placing the guts into the fire and then putting the small rodents on stick and placing them near the hot coals to let them cook.

"Well....? Have you tried those?" She inquired using a booted shoe to pock a stick near the fire. She was unhappy he went into the forest, unhappy he met someone there...but she couldn't control her brother. Maybe though she could knock some sense into him.

The leaf boy watched for a moment as his sister so quickly and efficiently gutted the rodents and soon enough they were cooking along side the bugs, "Well I had a bite of one of the tubers earlier, though raw it wasn't so good and a bit on the tough, crunchy side. They have seemed as though they have been softening a bit since being put over the fire and they smell good too. As for the bugs... not yet. I really want to try them first, to make sure they are good enough to share, but I am building up my courage to do so." He said with a laugh, poking at the bug again, "Not to mention that I have no idea how to tell when bugs are done since you just cook them in their own shell instead of removing the meat like with most other creatures."

Looking over to him she then drew up her legs and leaned her arms on her knee's. Chuckling she tucked some hair behind an ear before she stared at the bugs cooking on the spit, the smell of them were starting to eat at her and she felt her stomach clench at the mere thought of biting into one of those...things. Still...the tubers were smelling pretty good and the mice wouldn't be ready for awhile yet.

"Well...hope about we both try it at the same time?" Keilana offered more bravely than she really felt, but she didn't want her brother to have to face something as weird as eating bugs alone. "That way we have two opinions on whether is is really edible or not." She suggested trying to shift her weight on the uncomfortable ground.

Jacin gave a bit of a smile when his sister offered to eat the bugs along with him, "You really want to? Well that would be a help to me." It would also bolster his courage since there was no way that he could allow her to eat them without him, he would just look like a wimp then and that wasn't something that he could allow, "Alright then, here we go..." He said, reaching over to get the stick that the bug was on, inspecting it a moment before laying it on the ground between them, "I will crack the shell open with my knife then we can each try a bit of it." He told her, drawing the knife that he used for all manner of chores, took a breath before he then set to work using it's sharp blade to break into the thick exoskeleton of the bug that seemed as though it had worked as a wondrous way to cook the animal. He would need to keep it in mind, maybe if they found a big enough bug they could use the empty shell as a large pot to cook other things in.

After the shell of the bug was pried open he starred down at it in a curious manner, poked at the meat inside a couple times with the tip of his knife, then set about cutting a couple pieces free of it, "Alright, two pieces, the same size, one for each of us. Ready?"

Trying to bolster up her courage to eat these things with her brother she felt her courage failing her. It didn't help that he had to crack open the shell and pry it open revealing the steaming flesh inside. Swallowing she bit the inside of her cheek as she took the piece offered to her, holding the delicate looking meet in her hand and hoping it from hand to hand as it was still quite hot. After blowing on it she swallowed again and then looking to her brother cocked him a challenging smile. "Well...down the hatch." Keilana stated boldly as she then quickly and without though popped the meat into her mouth and bit down.

Keilana had a look of surprise on her face. The meat actually wasn't all that bad, it kinda had the texture of fish, well not the dried fish but the fresh fish she recalled having when she was a little girl. The flavor wasn't repulsive..nor was is savory, but maybe with some spices. Swallowing she tilted her head to the side as if now expecting to come down with some kind of serious stomach illness due to the bug meat. When nothing happened she gave her brother the thumbs up. "Looks like a new source of food for us. What did you think?"

At the same time that Kei tossed the food into her mouth Jacin did the same, not about to look weak by letting her do it first. He sat there for a long moment, a little afraid that it was going to be something horrible, before he paused, started to chew, then gave a little nod of his head, "This isn't so bad, especially given it was just baked over an open flame. Now, wanna try the tubers? We can see if all of it will go together with the mice in a stew." That would actually be a rather hearty soup, one that would be good for them to take with them when they were wandering around on their journeys from place to place as they sought out their various prizes, whatever those might be on a given day.

Nodding her head she used her own knife to cut off more of the bug flesh and popping into her mouth. If you didn't look at it or acknowledge it was insect meat it was easier on the mind and stomach. Her head turned to the roots he was mentioning and nodded her head, now that her stomach had a taste of food it demanded more. Reaching forward she rotated the mice so they wouldn't burn on the one side. "Yeah add some spices and pretend if isn't a bug and its actually quite good. It will be nice to get more protein in our diets." She commented as she cocked her head to the side and lightly punched his arm. "Okay I'll admit it you had a better haul than I." She chuckled, "You will have to take me with you next time, that way we could get even more."

Unable to help it Jacin set to laughing when he was told that if they added spiced and pretended it wasn't a bug that ti would be good, "Alright, we will make up another name for this sort of meat other then calling it by what name it's actually given." He promised, deciding that it was likely for the best. If one didn't actually look at the main body while eating it made the experience that much more enjoyable for sure. The punch to the arm that he got next, something he was rather used to and saw as a sign of affection more then anything else, caused him to turn to look over at her... and what she said next caused him to all but glow in delight, "Oh really?" He asked, then threw his over his head, in a victory pose.

"Eh? Take you with? Hrm... maybe, there are some crazy dangerous things there though, like a crystal spider with a poisonous web, I would hate to put my baby sister in danger." He said, looking as though he were deep in thought over the entire idea, arms slowly lowering down to rest in his lap and he considered it. He would like her along, he would feel better about it after all and could look after her, but at the same time would prefer her to stay somewhere safe while he was out meandering through the most dangerous of places... hrm.

Rolling her eyes she reared a hand back as if to deck him and then decided against it. No sense starting a fight with him. Eating some of the tuber a bit...too fast the felt it burn her tongue, her eyes betrayed her pain though she didn't say anything and just continued to chew. Seriously when was he going to treat her like a adult? She may be his little sister but she was just as worried about him wandering around the dangerous woods as he was about her. "Oh give me a break Jac, I mean it would be more productive if I came." She tried to reason with him, trying to keep her temper in check. The mentioning of a giant spider creature was enough to send shivers down her spine, but she wouldn't admit that the sound of it was mildly terrifying. "I can't just stay here...wandering around the same hunting grounds in hope something new will suddenly appear."

Sibling Rivalry Much? : Part 2

(( AIM RP between Orphe's Jacinthus & Jayoku's Keilana ))

Jacin watched his sister as she tried to hide the fact that she had burned her tongue on the tuber, even going so far as the continue to chew on it to appear as though she were fine even though her eyes had a slightly glassy appearance to them. Giving a little shake of his head he turned back to the fire, "I know it might be more productive but I just... worry. I know that if you are hunting nearby then nothing bad will get you like..." He trailed off, cleared his throat, seemed to be struggling with his words then finished with, "Nothing bad will get you. I prefer knowing that you are safe when I go out." Though he knew she was right, nothing spectacular would show up before her if she was wandering around the same places constantly. It was because he started to go further and further out that he was running into the discoveries that he was. It just worried him to let her go.

Keilana sat in silence chewing the tuber and trying to focus on the fact it wasn't tough and actually had a quite pleasant taste, but all she could think of was how to phrase her next words without lashing out at him. Though she was sorely tempted to beat him to a pulp. What did he think she was? Some fragile little creature that needed to be shielded from the world?

"You just think I'd find better things than you if I went." Keil started off boldly as if hoping to use reverse psychology on him to get her way.

Jacin turned to look over at her for a long moment before his lips twisted up into a grin, "I could walk you to the forest myself and point you at the treasure and you still wouldn't find more then me." He told her in a matter-of-fact manner before he was instantly on his feet to dodge the punch that he knew was coming. Turning around to face her, hands up in a defensive manner he said in a playful manner, "I think instead you should wait here for me to bring back stuff for you to cook, you are a woman after all." Maybe if he baited her she would forget about the desire to go as far as he had gone and instead just come after him with killing intent. It was almost preferable. Aside from that whole dying part at least.

Chewing on the inside of her cheek she tried to not take the bait, she had raised her arm back to punch him hard on the shoulder at his first comment, but he knew her only too well. Her temper was short and thus she didn't tease well. However it was his second comment that had her staring at him before her eyes narrowed to dangerous slits and gathering her legs under her body she leaped at him.

"You didn't just say that!" She shouted at him furious that he would treat her like some hapless woman who needed to just have a hundred kids and just stay home to tend a fire and pop out yet another kid. Drawing back an arm she took a swing at him, and there was no intent on pulling these punches.

Doing his best not to get himself murdered by his now furious sister, something he couldn't help but to be amused by, he gave a nod, "Sure thing, perhaps we can find you a nice guy to settle down with too? You know I know this nice Fortress, he's a bit slow but a nice guy." He offered, giving a cry when one of the swings came quite close to his face, one that he was sure would knock him senseless if she were to actually land it. For a girl she could sure hit hard and he doubted that even a Fortress would be able to survive such a blow, let alone a normal man like himself, "Eesh! Planning on taking my head off? If you do I won't be able to ever take you along with me." He said, laughing more as the punches kept coming, each one of them more then capable to killing a lesser man, "You really are adorable, little Kei."

There was something infuriating about having him tease her like this. It wasn't that she wasn't interested in getting a mate, but all the ones she knew of were just irritating, stupid or weak.

"Be lucky I am not aiming lower!" Keil hissed at him as she took another hit at him trying apparently to give him a bloody nose. When she went into one of these tantrums or rages it was hard to calm her down, usually the only way she calmed down was when she went a step too far.

There was a wince from the leaf tribesman, "Eesh, yeah. I am quite lucky... wouldn't be any fun if you went for the low blow." He told her, dodging a few more swings before he took a good one to the face that send him flying. Rolling with it he ended up on his hands and knees before lifting a hand to touch his cheek, "Owwie... that is gonna gonna bruise..." He muttered, turning to look at her before he lunged forward at her slid low so that he could scoop her up before he started to spin in circles. He knew it was probably best that he tried to calm her down now before some poor fool wandered by and got her anger turned his way just because he was present and male. Jacin would feel a little bad if he got an unsuspecting man killed because he was having his fun teasing his sister.

It would be as if she snapped out of some weird state of mind when her brother went flying. A smug smile on her face due to the satisfaction of landing a hit and then suddenly she was scooped up into her brothers arms. Starteled she protested and pushed away from him, shouting every bad word she knew to get him to let go.

"Why do you always do that??" She demanded as the warm of his arms and the closeness of him...strangely was calming. Her flailing ceased though she was sure to cuff him one good when she was released.

"Why do I always do what? Poke fun at your or pick you up to spin you around? Both answers would be because you are my sister so it's up to me to do so." He told her, giving a bit of a grin, spinning her around a moment more before he set her down on her feet. He staggered from side to side, dizzy himself, before giving a squeal as he tumbled backwards and landed on his backside with an 'omph' sound. From there he let himself fall back on the ground, chuckling a bit as the world continued to spin around him, "Eesh, I don't know if it was spinning or punch but the world is swirling." He said with a laugh, "Either way damn you punch like a man... remind me to learn to dodge better, huh? Next time I might end up punched hard enough that I am no longer as pretty as you."

Keilana always...always regretted it when she hit her brother, and now he lay sprawled on the ground looking up at the stars as if she jostled his brains loose. Sighing she moved over to sit on the ground, moving his head and laying it in her lap.

"Its your fault I hit like a man. You never take me seriously. I bet if I was a boy you'd let me come with you." She pouted as she flinched noticing the puffiness where she had hit him...oh boy that was going to bruise something fierce. Leaning down she touched her forehead against his lightly.

"I'm sorry..." Keilana whispered to him as if she was afraid if other people heard her apologizing they would deem her weak.

Jacin gave a bit of a laugh when he found himself given the chance to lay on her lap, allowing the spinning in his head to ease off slowly, "Heh, well it's good that you are so tough. That way nobody will be able to tease you other then me." He told her, not wanting for her to ever have to deal with anyone being mean to her. Instead it was better that she was tough enough that she could knock a guy's head clean off their shoulders because that meant that she would be safe. He just... didn't like the idea of her wander off anywhere dangerous. Still, he really couldn't hold her back forever, could he? Not unless he found some rather tough rope and something heavy to tie her to while he was out and about that was. He doubted that Kei would take very kindly to him anchoring her to their place though even if it were for her own good.

When she apologized he found himself asking in a joking manner, "Did you hit your head too? Or maybe the spinning was too much your to? You never apologize so quick, especially when I start it." He said with a grin before lifting a hand up to pat her on he head, "It's alright, you know I won't die from just a punch." No matter what happened to him he would always come back to make sure that she was alright! Best he didn't get himself killed, he doubted that Keilana wanted him haunting her forever.

Keilana felt her sarcasm seeping back into her voice as she spoke next, "Well you know I gave you a pretty swollen face." Reaching a finger she poked where the flesh was starting to discolor, her nail trailing along the faint outline that was forming. "And can't your sister be NICE for a change? Jeez...first you act like I am made of egg shells and then you suggest I am somehow soft in the head for acting nice. Fine then." Moving she was a bit rough in letting his head leave her lap as she went to stand up. "Your cruel you know? You'll never attract a woman like that if you are just annoying as hell." It was a flippant response...touching back on his comment about her never finding a man. Honestly she was just trying to distract herself from the fact her knuckles were...hurting as well.

A squeak escaped from Jacin when his comfortable pillow was taken away from him, causing him to fall backwards again though he was able to catch himself before his head hit the ground, "Ack..." He looked up at her for a moment before he pushed himself to sitting up, "I won't attract a woman, huh? Geez... you know what that means right? If I can't get a woman and you can't get a man... we might be stuck with each other forever... how horrible would that be?" He asked, looking as shocked and dismayed as he could muster before he pushed himself up to his feet and set to brushing off all the dirt that was clinging to him at the moment. As he was doing so a thought came to him, along with the smell of smoke and charred flesh.

"Hey... Kei... does that smell like charcoal to you?" He asked before glancing in the direction of the fire that they had abandoned during their rough housing, the same fire that they had some mice as well as some tubers over and then gave a cry as he started back over toward it, a worried look on his face. Had they accidentally charred the meal they were working on? That meant they only had bug to eat unless they wanted to start some more tubers over... oops.

The idea of being stuck with her brother for the rest of her life didn't sit easy with her, though she didn't hate her brother...after all he was her only living relative left in this world, it felt odd and perhaps a bit stale that they could be possibly being doing this same routine for the rest of their lives. Half turning as he mentioned charcoal a furrowed look on her face it contorted to a look of surprise and then...her head snapped to the fire where the mice had been cooking..and were now definitely smoldering pieces of ash.

"Noooooooo....!" Came her cry of disbelief, the small amount of real meat charred beyond eating she collapsed to her knees in front of them. Those poor mice had died in vain, not even to nourish their bodies. ".....that means..." She looked to where the remainder of the bug meat was sitting, now probably cold and left forgotten while they fought.

Solo - Why won't he treat me seriously?

Puffing her cheek outward and twisting a bit of hair between two fingers, Keilana was finding herself in one of those moods. The kind that left her entire body twitching, wanting to move and yet not, her mind never stilling, her fingers wanting to wrap around a rock and beat a particular someone with it. In fact she had bent down and fingering a few choice sized ones, playing with them as she glared out into the plains. Keilana wouldn't name the person who was irritating her so badly, but it was rather obvious when you lived with that particular person all your life.

The midday the sun was hot it made the air dry, it was too hot and actually had contributed to making her even more irritated. With sweat trickling down her skin and the wind blowing to only cause the dust to cake to her. With a water skin in tow she raised it to her lips and sipped from it, but it seemed hardly able to parch her thirst. After a moment of thought and hesitation she then gulped it down as if acting out against a voice that was lecturing her to drink it slowly.

There in the back of her mind was a man's voice, advising her to slow down, it was a voice, one she had known all her life. It belonged to her brother, and though it seemed strange that his voice would be her guide. Always telling her what to do cautioning her against doing the stupid things, raging against the little things, and trying to stop her from doing what she wanted, thinking she was a fragile little butterfly who could do nothing to protect herself.

Well she would show him. Keilana was getting better at managing her anger, though there were certain nerves her brother just seemed able to tap easily. Like her brother she could hunt on her own and gather materials and good just as well as him, so why shouldn't she go off into the forest to plunder its spoils? It had only taken her brother a day to get there and back, then she could come back and show all her treasures off to her brother and then perhaps he would get the hint that she was a 'big girl' and could handle herself.

Keilana in the long run was a brat, she had temper tantrums that could be triggered by any number of things, her brother mainly the one triggering them. But she was too old to be suffering from such tantrums these days. She was not three and rebelling against her parents wishes or rules. But due to having her brother acting in place of their mother and father it could explain why she always lashed out at him. On the other hand maybe she was just a brat. All her life her brother smothered her, and all her life she acted out in rage.

Grumbling she stoppered her water skin and then went back to work, the sun would not wait for her and she needed to gather as much as she could before the sun got too hot and the day became night. The leaf girl began her chores by setting snares, only to find that she was still too irritated to work the rope properly.

Her fingers knew the process well, she had done this countless times before but her agitation made her patience thin and thus her concentration lax. Throwing the thin but strong string to the ground she clenched her teeth in irritation before standing up to stomp her feet in anger bringing up clouds of dust from the dry ground. Why did this day have to be more annoying than it already was?

Anyone of her tribe who saw her probably was wondering just what was picking her. Did she step on something sharp? Perhaps cut herself trying to place that snare? Anyone who knew her really well would know this was just another tantrum and would do best to stay out of her way until she had calmed down.

It wouldn't matter though, she was alone...very alone on that plain. THe grass where it grew was knee high the perfect spot to set up traps and snares for prey. Keilana had made it very clear to her brother that she didn't want him following her, being her second shadow while she went out to hunt this day. The fact he had on the previous day ventured out into the forest filled her with jealousy and anger. He had forbade her to go in there, claiming it was dangerous that the Shifters lived there and thus she could find herself surrounded and killed by those tree dwelling savages.

Strange images filtered through her head, though she had never met a shifter herself the child hood stories of the past always seemed to pop up. Creatures that lived in the tree's, they could order the gigantic bugs around with mind control or at least that was what the stories claimed. They brought up nightmares in children stories of dread in adults. Dangerous were the shifters of the Jauhar forest.

Yet apparently it was safe enough for HIM to go alone. Where he had run into someone and brought back meat (if you can call bug's a meat source) as well a bag full of plant material. Keilana had no clue what any of the plants did or how they could be valuable. But hearing Jac going on and on about them she knew someone must of explained it cause her brother knew as much about plants as she did.

Kicking some sand at her foot she glowered at the snare that refused to set. Bending down she tried to rework the trap once more before deciding she would give up for the day. Hunger didn't help her mood and so she reluctantly reached into her bag and pulled out something to eat. As she chewed on a strip of dried meat the saltiness she knew would only make her more thirsty and her water skin was already half empty. There was that voice again, lecturing her to eat something else but out of spite she refused to.

The food helped to temper her anger and once she had finally managed to set the trap properly she moved onwards to go check snares she had set up yesterday. She had them spread out far apart after all a panicked creature could alert others of its plight and frighten the rest away. Keilana had quite the trek ahead of her and thirst crept up on her like the she predicted. Swearing she opened the stopper to the water skin but forced herself to drink only a few mouthfuls this time. She needed to make sure she had enough water to get back home but even know she knew it wasn't enough to slack her growing thirst.

The wind picking up offered little relief, in fact it seemed to make the air dryer and the dust invade every crevice of her body. Sweat trickled down her arms and back making little mud trails with the dust coating her skin. After what felt like eon's being too hot too uncomfortable she had little to show for it. All her snares had been tripped, cut (probably by other leaf tribe members who happened to have hungry mouths to feed themselves. No matter how they justified it though Keilana considered it theft.

Growling at one such snare that was hacked at so badly the rope was no longer useable for trapping, with a frustrated sigh she cut what she could of it that could prove useful before continuing back home, perhaps she could use it to tie her hair up. Nothing. No game to bring home tonight..no food what so ever. The thought was discouraging, after all they had to go out in search of food every day otherwise they would starve or worse have to beg for their existence. Keilana would much rather starve than look weak in front of the other tribe members, this was the extent of her stubbornness and pride.

Her thirst every growing she trotted home the heat of the sun's light dwindling as it went to set in the distance horizon. Keilana had made up her mind before she returned to her 'home' that she would travel to the Jauhar forest the next morning and see what she could pilfer from it. She would make sure to get up early and make sure her brother didn't know where she was going. By herself she would prove to him that she was capable of being treated seriously. Let's see what her brother thought of that!

Scary woman
PRP between Takoda and Keilana

As it wasn't she didn't se ewhy it was such a big deal. Her brother had stressed that the forest was dangerous and yet HE went in there, and he found all sorts of things to help ease their hunger pains as well to trade with. By staying close to home she only found herself frustrated with limitations of game as well discovering anything worth of trade. After all the stuff from the forest was worth a lot more than the every day menial things you found at home.

She was up early trying to make sure she could slip off before her brother had noticed her absence, track her down and drag her back home. Rather than leaving any sort of a message for him and she figured this would just tip him off to where she was headed she neatly placed the animal skull she had found days previous in front of his sleeping face. Hopefully that would wake him up with a jolt. Then she was off.

Keilana remained quiet until she was sure she was far enough away that her brother couldn't hear her, she broke into a jog wanting to get into the forest and out of it before the day was through.

Meanwhile on the edge of the forest sat a shifter who's dark skinned blended well in the dappling light coming through the tree leaves. Perched on his branch Takoda slowly ate his morning breakfast, pondering how many days had already past since he agree'd to meet with the leaf tribe member Jac. Had it been three days already? It felt like each day past by so quickly...

There was a flapping near his head, and stiffening he glanced out of the corner of his eye only to see the male nondwa, the one he had saved and named Zuko settle on the branch next to him. It looked to him expectantly as if demanding that Takoda share its fruit with it.

The bug still made him nervous, though Takoda found himself becoming more and more adapted to its presence. At least he wasn't running off with a shriek anymore. Of course being trapped in his house for a day with it mulling around on his furniture probably forced him to adapt. Sighing the placed the fruit a good arms length away from himself and allowed it to consume the rest of it.

The sun had just risen and the dew still clung to the leaves like jewels. It was then he noticed a figure darting in his direction.

So far so good, Keilana had managed to successfully escape her brothers iron fist and the forest was looming ahead of her. She was tired, puffing from the unusually long distance of running. After all she had never made an attempt to the forest before, perhaps because her brother had done it she felt the need to show she could do it too.

Even so, as she came upon the edge of the forest, she paused feeling a bit overwhelmed at its size. The trees were just...so BIG here and dense. She knew there were many bugs here, and pondered if she would be able to recognize the ones her brother got home. They had been dead and cooking...so she could only hope that alive they didn't look much different.

Stomach growling she realized in her haste she had forgotten to eat breakfast, but at least she hadn't been so stupid as to leave her water skin at home. Pausing she took a sip which barely eased her thirst and whistled.

The whistling had caught his interest, why would a leaf tribe member whistle? Was she signalling that the coast was clear? Takoda swallowed and tried to conceal himself better in the tree's foliage despite the fact the girl had yet to bother to look up.

She looked...similar to Jac. Maybe all leaf tribe members looked the same, he mulled though he realized perhaps to them all shifters looked the same with their dark skin and white hair. Musing he edge himself forward on the branch, recalling how Jac had been friendly maybe this one would be too.

There was a crack of a twig on the forest floor and he turned his head to see what it could be.

Keilana had just been about to step into the forest when she heard the sharp crack, she brandished her weapon quickly, it was just a small dagger but it was sharp. Okay so she used this primarily to kill small prey with, mice and the lot but surely it was dissuade any shifter that may try and do a surprise attack on her.

Lowering her stance she crept forward, there was no signs of life so what could of broken that branch? Unease filtered through her body and she fiddled with the knife as if she was unsure about what to do now. When she had determined that it was safe to proceed she moved forward, head held high in an attempt to look intimidating.

Her feet attempted to find places on the forest floor to cover up her tracks and provide a stealthy pacing but there were just...so many leaves and branches she wondered if she sounded like an alabuk stampeding through.

Seeing the knife Takoda swallowed, ah...this one seemed more...intimidating. Even if she was a girl he wasn't about to tangle with her, not that he had any inclination of fighting her. In fact he was hoping he could talk to her, since Jac had been so personable he hoped more of the leaf tribe were similar to him.

For now he would follow her, after all it was apparent she didn't know much about the forest as she seemed to be on her guard. Leaving the nondwa to finish its fruit he quietly walked through the branches of the tree's, keeping the leaf girl in his sights but not daring to get too close that it would reveal his location.

Keilana was finding her nerves raw with the anticipation of something...ANYTHING coming to get her. She wasn't stupid, she recalled the stories her parents told them of giant bugs that roamed the forest and the Shifters who inhabited it as well. There had to be SOMETHING out here other than just trees and the creak of the wind through there branches.

There was a flutter of wings and something small darted past her her head, she lashed out on instinct though missed with her wild aiming. It was just ...a small winged bug thing and it quickly ignored her and continued on its business. Keilana only wished she had waited for her brother to break down and take her here.

Rearing back as something brushed across her toes she stood poised to stab at whatever it was...and only stopped to blink in confusion at the small...glowing ...worm that was slowly trekking across the forest floor. Lowering her weapon she squatted down to peer at the unusual creature.

Takoda squirmed on his branch, he had spotted the worm she was now investigating, luckily it was far enough away that he didn't bolt or panic. Still how could she get so close to it? Shudders ran down his spine as he tried to avoid looking at the bug, only to land his gaze on something long...and fuzzy on the branch before him.

A small squeak of fear escaped his lips as he careened off of the branch he was on and to a lower one trying in a mighty dash to escape the thing that was there. It actually wasn't a bug...but a strange fuzzy looking lizard that only blinked lazily at the humanoids rapid flight away.

There was no denying that his cover was blown he was in full sight now on lower branches and only once he figured he was far enough away from the creature that had startled him did he stop and sit down.

The scream only confirmed what she had a hunch on, that she wasn't alone in this blasted forest, in fact she had been watched or followed the entire time she had set foot in it! Frustrated she hated being made a fool of and she raised her weapon in anger about to toss out threats when the figure who's voice she assumed belonged to but the words died in her throat as she watched the male careen off of the branch he was hiding on and fled.

Looking back to where he had been perched.....and then to where he had run, she followed in suit. After all if it was enough to cause the shifter to flee in terror she wasn't about to stick around and find out what exactly it was. Figuring that the safest place to run to was following the shifters rushed retreat clumsily as she was still not use to the twisted and gnarled roots covering the floor.

When she figured the shifter had stopped running she found herself breathing hard. Looking over her shoulder in an attempt to see if they were followed by whatever it was the shifter had fled from. Nothing. Nothing pursued and so she brought her attention back around to locate the shifter.

Takoda was still catching his breath when he realized the girl had followed him. Well...she knew he was here now there was no denying his rampant disregard for silence in his attempt to escape the bug. Sighing he looked down from the tree he was in, noticing that she hadn't quite relocated him just yet.

Rather than hide again, as it seemed...pointless he dropped down to a lower branch, still not yet convinced that the girl was harmless as she did have a dagger in hand.

"Ah...I am s..sorry I didn't mean...t..to frighten you." Takoda began wondering if there would be much point trying to form relations with a girl who looked about ready to murder something or someone.

Her gaze snapped to the branch the shifter now accommodated, her face furrowing in an unpleasant scowl. "You didn't frighten me," She snapped pointing a dagger at him before she half turned to gesture behind herself. "I just figured if there was something that could scare a shifter then I best high tail it out of there as well." It was common sense really, why would she stick around only to discover some man eating bug perhaps? Keilana knew she should thank him in a strange way he probably saved her live by fleeing in such a dramatic fashion.

Looking him over she noticed his dark skin, the blue jewels on his chest and face, really as a species they weren't all that much different from her leaf tribe people, but her mistrust was due to a long standing war between her people and the shifters.

Takoda felt his face color, after all he hadn't run from anything particularly dangerous....it was just his own irrational fear that had driven him away. Running a hand through his hair he only looked away from the girl as if embarrassed.
"Ah...there...wasn't though.." Takoda began to explain when suddenly he perceived a new threat in his immediate area one of those damnable glowing worm things! Reacting was only half of it as he flailed backwards and then went toppling off the branch. His back his the forest floor knocking the wind from him. It had been a long time since he had ever fallen off a branch in such a disgraceful fashion, perhaps there was a reason why people mocked him.

Keilana felt her anger spark at his words, was he trying to mock her?? About to toss a challenge up at him she noticed his sudden change in demeanor similar to his flight away from them only moments ago he was being scared by ...that small glowing worm. Keilana could see it's soft glow on the branch beside him and then the shifter was crashing down from the branch and landing on the ground with such force even she had to wince.

Looking back to the small glowing worm she looked back to the shifter. Wow.... either she had been wrong about the harmless worms being..harmless or this shifter was just...not quite right in the head. Either way she had the advantage and thus she she approached dagger still out though not raised threateningly.

"You....alright?" She inquired bumping her foot into his leg lightly.

Part 2

Takoda looked up at the forest canopy above, he was still trying to recover his breath mild panic blossoming when it felt like it would never come. Then finally a intake of breath and he felt like he could move again. He felt a nudge on his ledge and he glanced over seeing the dagger still out though lowered at her side.

"Ah...I think so...nothing feels broken." Takoda explored his limbs, no nothing felt broken though his back was going to be rather bruised he figured.
"T..hough I will depend on you just how 'fine' I am going to end up." He gestured with a finger to her dagger and then looked away closing his eyes as if expecting her to sweep down on him with the thing.

Keilana watched him warily and when he gestured to her weapon she only scoffed and tucked it back into her belt, she still had the upper hand here and she could pull it out whenever she felt the need to assert herself .

"You'll live. Just don't do anything funny." The girl stated firmly with a nod of her head before she risked glancing back up at the tree top the faint glow of the worm still visible.

"Is that thing really dangerous? Or are you just soft in the head?"

Takoda looked to where she was gazing and he felt embarrassed, after all he was a shifter and he lived in the forest all his life you'd think of all things he wouldn't be scared of bugs.

But there were BIG bugs, many dangerous ones...and given his past he couldn't help but fear them.

"ah...no it..isn't dangerous. I am just afraid of insects.." There he admitted it and he wondered if he would be laughed at again . After all it wouldn't be the first time.

Keilana gave a long exhale of air through her nose, she figured that the worm wasn't dangerous, but having met her first shifter she was ...dissapointed. He wasn't anything like she imagined a shifter to be. He wasn't big or strong, threatening or otherwise. He was timid and frighten of...bugs of all things.

"You are....wow...just..." She was trying to word it nicely and then realized she had no reason to be nice to him, "pathetic." Yep she had declared it, and it was just...so true.
"I was expecting you know...something a bit more intimidating.." She trailed off wondering what she would of done if she had met a shifter who was a lot more....well than this one.

He shouldn't of been surprised by her comment, apparently this was a common assumption for his kind and he would be quite a disappointment if you were expecting one thing...and got quite...another. He was weird, there was no real way to dance around that. Sitting up he rubbed his lower back, it twinged in pain and it was probably due to the gnarled root he landed on.

"Ah well, I suppose I am sorry...but isn't it better I am not? Otherwise we'd be fighting right now wouldn't we?" He pointed out, and he wasn't much of a fighter. His own dagger was to help dig up roots and scrap moss and fungi off or rocks, crack open nuts...and similar things like that.

He brought up a point, after all if he had been what she was expecting she could be fighting for her life this very moment, she may not survive and then her brother would be all alone. The thought bothered her, and she felt guilty. After all she had left without a word to her brother and by now he was probably panicking ( well after his initial shock of the skull in front of his face anyway) about where she was.
Giving a loud audible sigh she turned around and eye'd the way they had come.
"I guess.....I should leave. My brother is probably worried about me." Keilana muttered looking more annoyed than anything that she felt guilt. Making a mental note to punch her brother hard in the shoulder as she would end up leaving this place without having found anything.
"Bah this was a complete waste of time!" She growled.

Takoda was surprised by her sudden abruptness about leaving and how this had been an entire waste of time. What was it with leaf tribe members? Did they all act this way if they didn't manage to get something of value from the forest. He knew times were hard for everyone, but didn't their home land have anything to eat there? Or was that why there had been so many wars...
"Ah...it doesn't have to be...I could take you back...and show you where some thing to eat is." He offered as he managed to stand up, staggering slightly at the pain in his back. Okay maybe he did more damage than he realized. Slowly he walked towards the leaf girl noticing her angry expression.

Keilana reached for her dagger as the shifter approached her, but he looked sore and not really up for fighting as she was sure she would get more of that at home she sighed and crossed her arms over her chest, her dagger remaining at her belt. She did however perk when he mentioned they could find something to eat on the walk back to the edge of the forest.
"eat? Are they bugs?" She asked warily looking the shifter over slowly trying to gauge his reaction. After all as much as she had enjoyed the bug meat ultimately she didn't want to to have to hunt them down as well.

Takoda paled at the suggestion that it was bugs they were going to find to eat, he wondered now...if she knew the one other leaf tribe member he had met, Jac. After all he had mentioned to that male about how you could eat bugs for they were full of protein and did make an easy resource as they were EVERYWHERE. But no that wasn't what he had been thinking and he shook his head violently at the suggestion.

"Ahhhh no I was thinking fruit." Takoda firmly stated as s he pointed to the tops of the trees. After all the fruit was at the top of those trees, the good fruit anyway there were some that littered the ground but they were old and rotting and not fit for eating.

Keilana looked at him skeptically, when he pointed to the tree's she then gave him a look that declared he was insane. "Up there?" She said her voice raising in her anger, "I can't climb something like that! I ..I am not a shifter!" Keilana growled seeing how the male seemed to back up at her aggression. "I can't climb that, it..its just...can't be done!" Came her declaration and she was feeling like she was being mocked. Was he secretly trying to start something with her? Because she was leaf tribe? Was that it? Was he trying to prove he was better than her because he could climb a silly tree?

Takoda was taken aback by her anger, all he suggested was they get fruit from the tree and she looked around ready to beat him to a pulp with her bare hands. Not to say that Takoda was a coward but he was a timid man and if he could avoid a fight he would. Darting for the tree he had mentioned he scaled it quite easily and was already up in amongst the thicker branches and still climbing upward. He hated to just...leave her there but she was..just scary. He would still get her fruit, but just from the safe distance of the tree branches.

When he felt that he had gone up high enough he looked back down, the girl looked so much smaller but the fact she was furious...was very very obvious. In fact curses were drifting up and probably directed to him.
"I'll drop some fruit down!" He shouted to the girl as he reached the higher branches and quickly began to pluck the ripest fruit and drop them down below. Some how..this seemed to anger the girl even more.

THAT SHIFTER WAS MAKING FUN OF HER. Furious even as the fruit dropped to the ground some landing softly in moss, other cracking open on roots or rocks, he was making a real mess and it was only making her even more irritated.

Pacing back and forth like a predator that couldn't reach its prey she noticed a fallen tree branch and a slow...cunning smile lit her face. Moving over to it she hefted it off the ground, carefully stripping it of branches and leaves. She was satisfied, the branch as pretty heavy but it would due for her purpose.

Moving towards the tree, she lifted it adjusting her weight and took a practice swing, it wasn't TOO heavy for her which was good. Soon though she took a large WHACK at the tree, the branch meeting the thick trunk, neither the tree nor the branch giving way to each other. Instead the vibration and force of it went up her arm and she felt it go numb, she was forced to drop the branch but was satisfied at how hard she had hit the tree as a few fruit had actually fell from the branches above. And those were NOT from the stupid shifter man.

Part 3

The force in which that girl hit the tree was enough to cause Takoda to actually be forced to hold on. The tree quivered like an earthquake had just occured. Yes he was glad he hadn't stayed on the ground that girl was volitile and strong. Dear lord if she ahd managed to hit him with that thing he would probably be very hurt.

Looking down he watched her as she was forced to drop the limb, her arms handing limply at her sides. Did she hurt herself? No...she was looking directly at him with a very smug and satisfied expression on her face. Was she also sadistic? Takoda had met many people in his life time though she was probably the first to literally go along the lines act first think later.

"...You alright?" He called down not wanting to risk climbing down if it meant risking a branch to the face.

looking up at the tree she could see his alarmed face as he clutched to the tree. She felt a pant of satisfaction in that, but until she regained the feeling of her arms there was little sense in taunting the man back down so she could hit him in the head with that branch.

Looking down she peered down at it with a certain fondness. It would be a great pain to lug it back to camp, but she now liked it so much she couldn't help herself. It was going to come home with her! Keilana was was sure her brother would think she was insane but it didn't matter, this stick felt right to her and it was going to be her prize for coming here.

Once she was able to feel the sharp pins and needles coming back into her fingers she stretched them cautiously before stretching the rest of her arm. It hurt but nothing was broken. Opening her bag she went about collecting the fruit she had seen drop from the tree from her blow, and perhaps she was being a bit pig headed but she avoided any and all the shifter had dropped down to her.

Takoda watched as she experimented with her arms to make sure that everything was alright. Why was he concerned about her? Well it was his nature to care for the hurt, after all that was how he ended up with a nondwa stalking him. Though this girl wasn't exactly something he would want stalking him...she would probably try and take his head off with that branch.
She didn't reply to him either, so...either she had too much pride to respond because she was hurt or she just didn't feel the need to answer him. Takoda sighed, wondering if all the leaf tribe women were so..strong willed. "Are you okay?" He repeated mostly because he wanted to be sure, though given that she was now gathering the fruit on the ground he assumed she must be alright, or she had a really high pain tolerance. Slipping down from the branch he was on he perched on a lower one hoping to keep her in sight as she moved about. Was...she...taking that branch? Eye's widening he realized yes...yes she was taking that branch.

Keilana was indeed ignoring him, but he kept trying to talk to her, asking her if she was alright but she wouldn't answer him. After all she figured he must be trying to figure out if she had a weakness and boy was she going to prove him wrong! In fact she began humming rather loudly to herself when he asked the second time if she was okay.

Going to pick up her branch she dropped it out of surprise when something was underneath it. Startled she went to remove the branch and it revealed a strange looking amphibian. It looked stunned its pupils going off in different directions as if it couldn't see straight, bubbles...were even frothing at the mouth. Ah s**t...did she cause it some internal injury? Maybe brain damage by having that big branch land on it?

Lowering herself into a squatting position she picked up a much smaller stick and poked at it. The frog thing, didn't respond even when she accidentally hit it in the eye. More bubbles frothed forth and that was when she noted it was covered in spines. "Uh...sorry?" She stated to the species she couldn't recognize from her homeland.

Takoda came down a few more branches to see what it was that she was suddenly very interested in. He had feared it would be a bug, but no it was a strange creature called a spitorog. A type of toad that really shouldn't exist in the world but still managed to survive.

"Be careful of its spikes, and I wouldn't suggest poking at it..the inflate when starteled." He called down to the girl who half turned her head to catch what he was saying, but then shrugged and returned to poking at it. "I am serious! You should leave the poor spitorog alone." Takoda warned again, even if it wasn't a lethal creature if deserved some dignity...rather than being poked in the eye with a stick of all things.

A ...what? The shifter had given it a name, what was it ...a spi..torog? What a ridiculous name for such a creature. Of course the creature was quite pathetic and giving up she shrugged and stood up, turning to go gather more fruit though now careful to make sure that she didn't step on any of those frog things. They looked painful to stand on.

Unbeknownst to her the spitorog had taken a liking to her and slowly...crawled its way to her bag and up into it. Wriggling its way into the depths and being a bit squished by all the fruit.

Keilana gathering the last few things and swung her bag back up onto her shoulder. Bending over to pick up the branch and laying it on her free shoulder. Before leaving she turned located the shifter still hiding in the tree's that coward and stuck her tongue out at him.

"You're pathetic!" She shouted out to him before turning on her heels and leaving the area, if would take her a good while to get back home...especially laden with fruit and a large tree branch.

Takoda couldn't help but stare as the spitorog actually crawled into the girls bag, he was about to say something but the girl was completely ignoring him. Feeling guilty as she picked up the bag and the branch he was about to say something after all it would be a nasty surprise to find something like that in your bag! But she turned around and stuck his tongue out at him before she labeled him as pathetic and turned and stomped off.
So...shocked by her immaturity he nearly fell off the branch he was on at the moment. If all leaf tribe women were like her...he had to wonder who held the reins in a relationship. Certainly not the men.
Sighing Takoda looked back to the canopy above, well he supposed it was a good enough time as any to get going home...there was probably a nondwa there looking for more fruit.
