Keilana and Takoda,

Earlier today, while the two of you still slept, I found myself given a set of instructions by those in charge, within it was the first of what I think will be many challenges laid out before me. These challenges are mine alone to face, ones meant to test my skills, as such I ask that neither of you follow me.

I trust that the two of you can get along at least until I get home? It would mean a lot to me if you did as well as if you tried to get along? I know that you aren't exactly the best of friends but try for me, alright? Or at least strike up a truce until I get home? It would mean the world to me if I could come home to a home that wasn't burned to the ground.

Love,

Jacinthus.

P.S. No fighting, I mean it.

To Vent - Keilana and Animah -X

Reserved for Solo - Return of the poscuta

The air was dry, the sun high in the sky and already beating down upon the grasslands, a lone figure was hunkered down in the tall grass sitting perfectly still much like the outcrop of rock she was sheltering herself with. The day was hot and Keilana couldn't of loved it more, after spending so much time in Zena being frost bitten she was happy with the threat of sunburn instead.

She sat still for such a long time one had to wonder if she forgot why she was there at all. True she had come out here to try and hunt, she had a hammer after all she may if make use of it. But unlike her brother's bow she didn't have range she had to sneak up on her prey and hopefully catch it off guard. So she sat and waited for anything to pass by and there...hadn't been anything in ages.

Unfortunately this left her with her thoughts and a foot that was falling asleep from how long she had been crouched there. The prior being a much more dangerous thing than the latter. Resentful, angry, frustrated...and afraid. You'd think that fear would be in take forefront of her problems. But the young woman had yet to admit that she was afraid. Her fear was rooted from a young age, when she and her brother had Ben left alone, and then their parents had never returned.

Unbeknownst to her there was a creature that had happened past, a poscuta...and it had climbed up the rock up-cropping the leaf girl was hiding beside and was now ...watching her. large ears tilted forward it seemed to be very curious about her though it had kept its distance for awhile now. People could claim that animals were stupid, that they had short memories, but this poscuta remembered this girl. For when it was just a kit she had released it from a trap that it had got caught in.

Now older the poscuta was braver...and curious to why the girl had been sitting there for so long. It inched itself closer to the edge of the rock, its paws sending little pieces of debris over the edge, some of them hitting the girl on the head and her arm. It froze pondering her reaction.

Keilana had been so immersed in her dark thoughts that when she felt something alight upon her head and shoulders, she nearly jumped out of her skin. Her head snapped up, her face peering to see what had just come from above her, eyes widening as she spotted the creature who looked just about ready to get up and race away. It was a poscuta..and though Keilana didn't know and couldn't tell it was the one she had saved when it was younger she still found herself keenly aware of a familiarity about it.

The moment both of them was still only lasted the briefest of seconds until the girl went to jump to her feet and the poscuta dashed nimbly down the rock and into the tall grass. The girl...her legs cramping upon standing crumpled back to the ground her hammer landing heavily beside her. The girl groaned in agony, her legs...the heavens her legs...

The poscuta...paused...moving forward enough in the grass to take a look at the girl who seemed to be in a lot of pain. She was rubbing her legs trying to get the cramping to release its hold on her muscles. Looking over at the creature she wondered just why it was watching her, shouldn't it of fled by this point?

Both girl and poscuta stared at each other for a moment frozen as they both tried to evaluate the purpose of them being there. It was the girl who moved first, giving a sigh as she rubbed her legs slowly again and then gathered herself to ignore the poscuta. Sure she could hunt it...but something about the creature tugged on her heart strings and besides there were bigger things out there to hunt.

Moving back around to use the rock as shelter and a hiding spot she went about waiting and watching for prey to come to her. She hoped her little out burst didn't scare away anything that may of been in the immediate area but it was too soon to tell.

Time passed, and the poscuta was started to become very curious about the girls actions. She went back to sitting there, weapon in hand waiting. Waiting for what? Skulking forward it tried to be sneaky and it was fairly agile and quiet..to the point the girl didn't even realize it was there until it went to sniff her hand.

It was the cold nose that startled her back out of her day dreams and she jerked her arm backwards before looking down to see the creature suddenly retreat from her presence. Strange....why was it ...that close? Taking a deep breath she returned to the task at hand, hunting. The girl would soon learn that the poscuta had no intentions of leaving her to her thoughts and self wallowing.

Another couple of minutes passed and Kei back to her perched position watched wearily only to feel that cold nose again against the back of her hand. She flinched a bit but didn't move, now curious to what the creature was doing. This would continue on for what felt like hours. The poscuta would be brave suddenly before fleeing the scene when she twitched, she tried not to look at it as it seemed to make it more uncomfortable.

In the end Keilana would never know what the creature was up to, for when it felt like it was finally going to stick around there was a shriek, an aldabuck had stumbled across their path and hadn't noticed Keilana until the very last moment. The sound it made caused both poscuta and the girl to fall backwards, the smaller creature righting itself and fleeing the area a lot faster than the girl could recover from. Though once she was able to she felt like she wanted to rip her hair out of her head.

It really wasn't fair...life was..just not fair.

Reserved for solo - Recount of her thoughts

There was something to be said, when the weather is fair and there was food in your stomach. It meant the day was going well and life couldn't be better. But it didn't help to lift the spirits of a certain leaf tribe girl who was fiddling with her weapon. The hammer was propped up against her legs as she sat cross legged on the ground. She seemed to be examining it intently, a hand coming up to tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ears annoyed that the wind had picked up and was now making it harder for her to focus on the weapon in front of her.

The weapon symbolized many things for Keilana, after all it was her lively hood and she couldn't let it fall into disrepair, and for now she was oiling the wood shaft to strengthen it. The oil was from a nut that came from the forests of Jahaur. How her people managed to trade with the shifter clans for it was beyond her. There were still so many that didn't trust the shifters, but she supposed after her adventures into Sauti and then Zena...it all seemed like a thing in the past.

Her hands clenched at the cloth as she recalled the one thing they had managed to bring back with them on their travels. A shifter by the name of Takoda....a healer whom her brother had fallen in love with, declared his love for and then dragged back home with them. Things had been so very awkward since that point, and then her brother had to vanish off the face of the planet..it had already been a couple of days...with no sign of him besides the note that he had left behind.

Of course this was just getting repetitive on her part, having gone to her best friend to vent her frustrations the day prior she was still moping about her brother and the shifter. Moping though wasn't the right word....more..obsessing over it. No matter how much her brother wanted her to stick around she knew this situation just...wasn't going to work out. The girl felt awkward and out of place in her own home now. Always worrying she may stumble across them trying to have a private moment..of course...that hadn't been a problem since her brother had ...basically vanished as soon as they had come home.

Which left her with the shifter and both of them unwilling to break the ice. Okay..so that was a lie, the shifter HAD made attempts to get her to open up, but Keilana was a stubborn woman and refused to acknowledge that fact. Forcing herself to relax she straightened the cloth that had gotten rather...wrinkled in her clenched fist. It was obvious she was trying to distract herself from the troubling thoughts that were running in her head.

The longer she thought on things the more angry she was becoming, how dare her brother just up and vanish on her! It was going to be just like their parents...all over again. Jacinthus was her entire world...and if he vanished from her life she wasn't entirely sure how she would deal with it. Keilana was of course jumping to conclusions, if Jacinthus was working on a task given to him by the tribe then surely it would take several days....maybe even a week to accomplish.

This didn't reassure her though, it only caused her to fret worse. Having no definite return date meant she would have to worry and stew worse for every day that went past with no word from her him. Never mind that the shifter too was not off on some adventure of his own now.

It was a new sensation being...completely alone, it made her nervous...and it made her anxious. All in all it made her angry. Lost in her own thoughts on how she was left alone and how she was going to end up alone...it was probably a good thing that her weapon held no blade..else she probably would of cut herself by this point she was so distracted.

Keilana didn't like the feeling of being alone and thus...after feeding her spitorog she went into the village, hammer slung over her shoulder a pelt she had gotten from Zena in her grasp. She had plans on trading it for spirits...as she had heard how it could help you ease pain..and temporarily forget your worries. How she got the idea in her head, was beyond her. It managed to worm its way there but suddenly she was obsessed with the idea.

Though everyone in the village knew her, knew her brother and her predicament, many down right refused to trade the alcohol to her as they knew they would be hearing from her brother if they did. It took a better part of the day and a LOT of arguing...lying to finally get a water-skin filled to the brim with the the liquid fire. Proud of her accomplishment she managed to get back home without any further troubles.

Though when she got there, she knew she couldn't drink it at home. What if her brother came back? While she was under the influence of the spirits? No...that was just asking for her being dis-owned. A thought that made her feel...more angry, that she should have to drink somewhere else and not in her own home. Looking around she noticed the shifter male Takoda was still gone. She hoped mildly he'd never come back...and then felt angry and sad at the thought.

It wasn't really what she thought...was it? That due to her jealousy that she would want her brother to never come back? Frowning she looked back to the bag of spirits in her hands tempted to be rid of it...wondering why she had thought buying the stuff would be such a good idea. Her grip tightened over the leather and she shook her head. No maybe she should...see if the man she traded with would be willing to trade back after all she had no need for this stuff right?

Her hand tilted to the side and she felt the liquid shift around in the bag, should she..at least see what it tastes like? Keilana went to unstopper the water skin but hesitated, okay she was home alone at the moment but that didn't mean that Takoda couldn't come back at any time or her brother for that matter. Giving a grumble the leaf girl kicked a small stone that was on the ground before she looked off into the distance.

Perhaps she could try it...out in the forest.

reserved for solo - Morning Sickness?

Days had flown past and even though her encounter with the shifter had only been a couple of weeks ago it seemed like a distant muddled dream. After all the events of that day were still rather blurry to her and since that event there was something that was nagging at the back of her head. Something that was pestering her to pay attention to its warning a small whispering warning that demanded she pay attention to it. Something was going to be changing soon, but Keilana was a stubborn woman and choose to ignore this small voice trying to warn her of the impending changes that were to occur to her body.

Perhaps she would start to listen when she had begun to feel very sick several weeks after the incident with Chalcedony. It happened at the most inopportune times, sometimes when she first got up..before even eating, other times it would be randomly throughout the day, she was convinced she must of caught some bizarre sickness, or so she kept telling herself..

Worse off was trying to keep her sickness to herself, her brother was the type who was over protective and she didn't want him jumping down her throat in order to figure out the cause. Strangely it was the shifter who seemed more sympathetic about her condition, going as far as making her tea every morning and evening to help settle her stomach. Although she hated getting help from him she couldn't help but be thankful at the same time.

The tea didn't make the sickness go away, but it certainly helped ease the worse of it. Throwing up so much was wrecking havoc on her body, she knew she had lost some weight and trying to lift her hammer had become a chore..something she really didn't like. So she had taken to lifting weights to try and get the strength back in her arms. The only problem was that the blasted shifter Takoda kept stopping her. Urging her to rest, with...a uncanny amount of concern that was bordering on annoying and creepy.

And since her immense dislike for the shifter anyway, Keilana ignored his plea's for her to stop. Going as far to do more than she had intended on doing. Trying to go for jogs on the best sunniest days (since those were the only days she felt any desire to leave the house), but finding she just didn't have the stamina anymore. Having to stop not even have way through her desired length of her travel. Out of breath, nauseous and starving at the same time, it felt as if what she was doing was like she was fighting against a current that wouldn't let her progress. A very strong current.

It was on one such occasion that she was taking a breather that she noticed it. It looked as if she was getting a bit of a belly, but how could that be possible? She had been so sick...and though her appetite had perked up she still felt like more was coming up than staying down. She had taken the sign to be positive, since wanting to eat and still being sick was better than not eating at all. Still she hadn't expected to gain weight...it was undeniably embarrassing having a small pot belly like that.

How did she not see it coming? It seemed so glaringly obvious now it was making her self conscious wishing that her shirt was now long enough to hide her stomach. But how could this be? How could she of gained weight like this without her noticing? She was exercising..and eating little she could understand loosing weight but how could she gain it?

Sitting against a rock she couldn't stop looking at it, the longer she looked at it the bigger it felt like it was getting. Was that even possible? Reaching out she pressed a finger against the offending bulge, she had hesitated as if doing this would only reveal just how real and large it was. To her surprise the bump wasn't soft and squishy like fat would be, it didn't yield to the pressure of her finger in fact it seemed quite firm.

A confused frown appeared on her face, her finger repeated pressing into the offending orb which was her stomach. With each press the pressure was becoming lighter and lighter as if she knew that she shouldn't be pressing so hard. Now she brought up her other hand to measure the size of the bulge. Her two hands pressed against her stomach managed to barely cover the bump and it was perhaps her sitting there her hands on her stomach that it dawned on her ...why she would have a belly like this.

Keilana's hands flew away from her stomach as if the realization had startled her badly, so badly she almost wished she could turn back time and make sure she didn't think of it. The dreaded question now echoing around her head 'i'm I pregnant?'. How cruel was the world? She made one mistake, slept with a shifter she barely knew...and now...the gods were going to make her pay for her life choices.

"No.." She murmured almost causing herself to jump again hearing her own words. This This...couldn't be happening! Her body trembled, she felt tears gathering in her eyes. A baby? What...why?? Why would the world be so cruel as to have her become pregnant? With child of a man she only really talked to once.

Standing up she staggered slightly, feeling light headed and sick to her stomach. There was only one person she could turn to, and that was her best friend Animah. How could she tell her brother this information? He would murder well..not her but probably Chalcedony. even though they were both at fault. Shaking her head she would worry about her brother later for now she needed to talk to someone..and Animah was that person.

To tell or not to tell?

Though she still felt weak in the knee's after spending her time with Animah she felt somewhat calmer about her situation. It was still not the most desired situation to be in but now she would have to make some decisions, some very important ones. Primarily telling Chalcedony about the baby and ..then ...her brother. Preferably it would be best to tell the shifter before she told her brother, then at least he would know he was a father before Jacinthus hunted him down and quite possibly murder him.

A hand reached for her forehead, it hurt and she felt like she could be sick all over again but she managed to keep what little she had down. A slow release of her breath and she continued walking forward, she felt rather self conscious of her stomach though by wrapping her arms around her stomach it only caused it to be more obvious. The girl was uncomfortable and she wanted to get home as quickly as possible btu before she could do that she would need to figure out her next step.

Luckily she was too exhausted to get all the way home and being forced to sit down she found a large rock to perch on. Looking out across the Savannah she felt the wind tease her hair and she almost wished she had stayed with Animah. Her brother was going to be the hardest part of getting home. Though she could drag this out, until the pregnancy could no longer be hidden and by that time she could hope that she had found Chalcedony and break the news to him. As much as it had been a devastating discovery on her part she had to wonder what the shifter would think.

Would he embrace being the father? Tell he to get lost? Deny that he was the father? All these worries floating around in her head, and none of the senario's played out well. Some seemed too unrealistic, she couldn't see the shifter happily embracing the idea of an unplanned pregnancy. Then again she couldn't see him just abandoning her either. The woman remembered how hard he had tried to stop her from the self damaging ways she had been behaving when they had first met.

Wrapping and arm loosely around her middle a moment to realize she was going to be a mother a wave of new fears rose up. After all her own memories of having a mother and father were spotty, would she be a good mother? Would she...should she rather see about trying to get Chalcedony about playing a larger part in the child's upbringing? Keilana supposed she would have to see what his thoughts on being a father would be first.

Though...she knew Jacinthus would protect her and the baby, quite obsessively perhaps, but...it seemed unfair for him to take on the burden and role of 'dad' even though he was her brother. Keilana's shoulder's slumped too many things were whirling around in her head and she suddenly desired to have some of the tea that Takoda had been making her....

A moment...and suddenly she felt stupid, Takoda had known. He had noticed the signs right away, but hadn't spoken up about it, or asked any questions in fact he had just been quietly trying to help her through her roughest moments. Shame ran through her, she had been treating Takoda so poorly up until this point, perhaps even trying to get the male shifter to hate her, so her hate could be easily justified. But now things have changed, he had been protecting her in his own way, from her brother. He was going to let her make the decision of when she would let her brother know about her being with child.

Should...should she tell the shifter who the father of the child was? It would seem a slap in the face that Takoda's good friend Chal...the one who had professed feelings for him ...had suddenly gotten drunk and impregnated his mates sister. Keileana chewed on her lower lip, no she would see what Chalcedony wanted to do about it. She would need to make sure that he knew first before her brother, and that would mean she would need to be extra careful since her belly was becoming more and more pronounced by the day.

Which meant she would have to travel back to the forests of Jahaur alone, and ...she didn't like the idea of being vulnerable in a forest full of predators. Her hammer would have to come with her as an intimidating factor, since fighting ..seemed out of the question. Pushing off of the rock she tried to figure out the best ways of obscuring her stomach without being blatantly obvious and it was quickly determined that her choice of outfit would have to change. Sighing she continued on her way back home.

Making a note that she would need to thank Takoda (as much as she hated to) for keeping her pregnancy secret. As well be nicer to him...perhaps he would give her more tea or at least show her how to make it. Maybe he would be able to help her out later? The idea was still too fresh in her mind to even consider 'later' as big as a hut and unable to do much for herself...she would be a burden and she hated being useless.

Taking a deep breath she would worry about that later, cross that bridge when she got to it for if she worried about it now she would probably go crazy from worry. Yes she needed to find Chalcedony first, before her brother picks up on her rather...obvious problem and decided to take matters into his own hands. Most likely Chalcedony's throat...
