Solo - Why do they grow up so fast?

The war hammer wielding leaf woman wasn't getting any younger, and she could swear her boys were giving her grey hairs beyond her years. As she went about tidying up their home she gave a pause as she noted the two menk fish side by side still in the glass orbs from the tournament from what seemed like eternity ago. How those two things...were still alive were beyond her, she supposed they were magic, it was really the only way she could explain how they could still be alive. Still, seeing them brought back memories. How her boys had been so proud to see their mama fiercely fighting in the ring. Though she had lost to her brother in the second round she still managed to impress upon her boys that no one messed with her.

Chuckling she looked to the corner of the house where her hammer resided, within a couple steps reach she could grab it and be out the door. Or if someone was stupid enough to attack their home well they would regret it pretty quickly. Sighing she took a small rag and carefully picked up the Menk globe and cleaned it off. Chandra's was dustier than Aysun's...though Aysun was more into critters than his brother and had more often paid attention to the poor thing. Chandra...only seemed to care about his little sprite friend named Awen. Where he had gotten her she wasn't entirely sure, but given how Aysun came home with every animal under the sun...There weren't many things that surprised her anymore.

Grumbling as she put the one menk down only to pick up the second she always had to wonder what possessed Aysun to bring home every single animal he came across or was willing to 'follow' him home. The woman still recalled how Aysun had come home with the large bug creature...it had almost caused her to cringe and knowing that Takoda would probably freak out or at the very least be uncomfortable she had demanded the animal be taken to his fathers house. Secretly she hoped something would eat it, but she would never tell her son that. Then there was the time that he brought home the large bird... and every other creature that she had lost count.
Then there was his brother who, albeit wasn't the critter loving boy his brother was, he had almost the opposite problem. He didn't socialize with many people at all.

Beyond being forced to look after their cousin Korra, talking to herself and the rest of the family members she couldn't say that she had ever seen Chandra play with another kid his age or speak about them. There had been that one time when she introduced them to Animah's younger sister but that had been ages ago and perhaps she had hoped that one of her sons would become romantically involved with her tying her best friend into her life. The rag in her hand stilled as she thought somewhat depressingly how it had been a long time since she had seen Animah.

The happy go lucky young girl she met and grew up with had gotten on in her life and she had to wonder if she dropped by to see Animah if they would have anything to talk about at all. Sighing she knew she was being depressing and perhaps on purpose, but she couldn't really claim that her own life hadn't been busy. Raising twin boys had been stressful enough and though she loved them and didn't want to let go of them..they were slowly moving away from her and beggining to lead new lives.

Aysun began collecting more animals and had even acheived a rank although by doing so ended up bringing home one more pet that made her cringe. An Oban mount that looked as if it could rip off your limb without a second thought. Perhaps she was being parinoid but looking at it she couldn't help but want her hammer in her hand...just in case. Probably the name her son picked out for him didn't help matters...Gnaw...lovely.

Chandra had also become a healer. That had thrown her for a loop. Though she knew he had been dabbling in magic she never saw her son as being the type who'd want to help others...of course the small sprite had gotten injured so perhaps that was where that desire had come from? Regardless she had begun to worry that Chandra would never achieve a rank considering how much time he spent reading...and doing not much else. So the fact it turned out that he had not only gotten a rank but one as a healer...surprised her.

Looking down at the menk in her hand she gently put it back with the other, thinking on her two boys left her feeling nostalgic and quite honestly lonely. Having spent many years raising them and protecting them through a war they were still growing into men which meant that someday they would leave the nest and herself. Without realizing it Keilana had begun to tear up. Her boys were growing faster than she could keep up with and neither of them had felt the need to explain along the way that ..yes...they were growing into men. It just suddenly happened.

Absently a hand went to her stomach where she had carried them for nine months in partial secrecy from her over protective brother and his mate. The whole scenario leading up to her getting pregnant was not only embarrassing but down right crazy..with her getting drunk getting her brothers mates ex...drunk...and then them going at it from a one night stand..
Keilana crossed her arms over her chest feeling insecure for a moment and even more lonely. Would...having more kids be the answer? No she knew this would be a terrible idea and who would she even ask? Chalcedony?

She gave a sad chuckle to herself and a shake of her head trying to clear such stupid ideas away. Chalcedony didn't see her like that. After all he had been going after Takoda...another man ..not her. Trying to get back into the cleaning mood she forced herself to think of other things...she didn't want to be sad anymore.

Winter Is Coming

World Event
Prompt 1
Solo Format
Can be used toward Solo or RP req

The settlements of Tendaji all knew how to take care of themselves during the winter. Zena and Sauti received their usual snow fall, for Zena it was nearly year round and didn't faze them much at all; Tale and Jauhar seemed to retain most of their heat, dropping to milder temperatures; Matori and Oba seemed to flux between mild during the day and a sharp chill in the evenings. But usually it was all under control.

Word had passed through the elders and oracles and mystics that this winter was going to be a hard winter. The air would be sharp with cold and snow would fall in all areas of the world, something that had never happened before in Jauhar.

It came as a shock when the temperatures began to drop rapidly through the night. Most had thought that it was just a joke. There couldn't possibly be enough cold air to send snow to Jauhar. It was absurd. But it happened, and most of Tendaji wasn't prepared.

In the morning everything was frosted over, those in Zena and most of Sauti were barely able to open their doors the snow had risen so high overnight, and those in warmer climates could see the sheet of frost on the ground and the plants around them.

If the winter was going to be a long one, they would have to salvage what they could and come up with a plan...

***

She felt her body shiver as she lay in her hammock, the light sheet she used was now tightly wrapped around her as the dawn slowly approached. What was the world coming to? Keilana had awoken with quite a shock to discover that she could see her breath. That the normally tempid morning air was instead chilly and as her bare foot when to find purchase on the floor she instead discovered with a quick jerk that it was like ice. Dread welled up inside of her, as her sheet was now wrapped firmly around her shoulders like a sheild against the cold, her hair a mess and her mood matching the frigid morning air.

It took some effort to bring herself to get up, and she felt she was quite brave at facing the idea of having to change into her day clothes. Although she felt that none of the clothing she had was significant enough to help with the numbing cold. Of course this wasn't as cold as it had been those many years ago. When she and her brother went traveling into the mountians of Sauti and now that white menace that had plagued both her brother and herself when they went on that epic journey long ago had come back to haunt her. Shivering despite herself, the memory of that mind numbing cold came creeping back making her entire body ache with discomfort.

Now dressed she couldn't stop herself from wrapping her blanket around her shoulders like a make shift cloak. Drawn around her arms to try and keep her warm she greeted the white world with a scowl. Standing at the doorway before she turned as if defeated and retreated back inside. She hated this. Hated it so much she didn't even want to face the day. Perhaps she could go back to sleep and hope that this was just a nightmare. Keilana soon discovered though that not moving meant that the cold seemed to get a firmer grasp on her. Groaning she returned to her doorway before she grumbeled and climbed down the rope ladder. Which had become more stiff from the cold than normal.

Once her feet touched the ground she turned around and glared at anything that her eyes laid upon. There was a strange lump of snow on a rock..or at least she thought it was a rock, moving over she tilted her head before reaching out slowly to brush her hand against the snow to knock whatever it was there off. Starteled as she hit something pointy it didn't take her long to realize that it was...her STALKER. Wide eye'd it had been a long time since she had seen the spitorog, her stalker from her younger days. It wasn't moving and this..actually made the woman panic slightly.

Going to make a fire she then went to gather up the rather frozen lump of amphibian and brought it closer to the warmth. Was it still watching her all this time? Tilting her head she gave a small smile as she gave the creature a small poke. Some part of her was relieved to see him again. Though if he was dead now it would be too sad for her to bare. Sighing as there wasn't much else to do Kei went about making herself something warm to eat. Melting snow however made for an easy drink and she was eating when she noticed that the spitorog had one little bubble coming from its mouth.

Riasing an eyebrow she gave a small laugh out of relief, more bubbles soon joined the first and as the spitorog thawed so did Kei's heart for the strange stalker. the spitorog had been there a long time, how long did they live anyway? It blinked a unnervingly slow blink before it just stared at the fire blowing little bubbles at its mouth. Finishing her meal she went to clean up before stopping herself. Unconscionably she had kept a bit of her food for the small creature, though she had no idea what spitorogs ate...she had never seen one eat. Chewing on her lip she went to put the bowl down beside it.

Perhaps since she had children the maternal side of her had blossomed somewhat and she felt that she couldn't just leave the spitorog there half frozen with nothing to eat or drink. Good what would Aysun think if he was to discover her doting on a spitorog of all things? Thinking about her son she frowned wondering what kind of trouble the youth would be getting into with this kind of weather. Probably looking after his animals...after all they wouldn't be use to this kind of cold.

Snickering at the idea of her young boy having extra work to do with his hoard of critters she felt a new bounce in her step as she went about with her day. Though she never saw the spitorog eat the empty bowl meant something ate the left overs...maybe a nearby poscuta snuck by and ate it? Looking around she placed water near the spitorog and actually got a reaction from it. Turning the small spiney creature started up blankly at Keilana a long..and uncomfortable moment before it tried to clamber into the bowl nearly tipping it over. If it hadn't been for Keilana it would of succeeded but her hand darted out to stop it from spilling.

The creature settled into the bowl looking now..as content as a spitorog could be. Perhaps it felt out of place in this dry atmosphere. Still...she smiled happy to see it content and went about the rest of her day feeling slightly better about this white blight on the world.

Reserved for solo - These Lonely feelings

More time has passed and she couldn't help but feel more and more lonely as the days went by. The snow had melted and regular weather had returned to Tale. Keilana was beyond thankful that the crazy snowy days were brief and it was one such morning as she awoke and stretched in her hammock that she looked over and spotted the spitorog she nicknamed Slow on her table staring at her in an unblinking manner. Bubbles foamed at its mouth as per usual and she couldn't quite help but smile at him. At least she assumed it was male, she had no discernible way of confirming its gender and she didn't honestly want to try.

"Good Morning Slow." The woman greeted the creature before she fidgeted on her hammock settling down to then stare at the ceiling a moment. A sigh escaped her lips, she was getting tired of the same routine over and over. Get up, prepare breakfast try and catch sight of her two boys who either had already gotten up, left or were still sleeping. Then clean around the place, go into the village...pass by Animah's burnt down home and then feeling a wave of loneliness head back to continue her day. Day after day she was finding that as time went on that...if she just vanished she wouldn't be missed.

Another sigh and she determined that she may as well get on with it, Keilana rolled over, hoping out of the hammock and went to wash her face in a close by water basin. The cold water was always a bit of a shock, but a refreshing sort of one. Using a towerl she dried herself off and then went to tidy her hair before she got dressed and then went to check on the boys.

"Aysun? Chandra? Time to get up!" She called out cheerfully going to push the curtain aside the lead to their rooms before stopping to find both hammocks vacant. Right. Aysun was probably already up looking after his creatures and Chandra well...who knew where he wold be. Probably found a nice quiet spot to read. Another mournful sigh escaped her as she pushed the curtains aside so she could tidy the mess her two boys always seemed to leave behind. Aysun always left in a hurry and never properly tidied his hammock before he left, his brother on the other hand had a horde of papers and books that cluttered the sides of his hammock. Tidying up...it felt like she was merely the hired help around here.

Grumbling her cheerful mood was soured, but that wasn't too unnatural for the woman who had become used to being alone. Stretching her arms she did her best to push past her irritation as she went to make herself breakfast. Unsure of what Slow should eat she always left an arrangement of dried fruits and whatever bugs she managed to find near the creature, whenever she could find it anyway. For such a dimwitted creature it seemed able to magically appear places. It originally unnerved her but now she had gotten use to spontaneously appearing near her when she least expected it.

"Aysun? Chandra? Are you home?" She called out as she prepped the fire to warm up some left over stew from the night before. When the boys weren't around she didn't feel compelled to make herself something fresh to eat and was quite content to eat left overs. As it warmed she went over to where her hammer sat, large and brooding in a corner of the home. Taking an oiled cloth she went about her routine of the morning getting her hammer cleaned and removing any scuffs she was able to find. The hammer was like an extension of herself and she took great pride in keeping the think clean and unmmared.

Perhaps that was why she didn't have a man in her life, not even the father of her two boys had any real interest in her. After all the ..conception of the twins had been a drunken incident. Chalcedony she was pretty sure was still pining for her brothers mate Takoda. What did he have that she didn't? Gritting her teeth she tried to let the unpleasant feelings die down. It wasn't Takoda's fault, but she couldn't help but feel resentful towards the shifter who had not only stolen her brother but...had all the men after him. Though...perhaps it was just her own gruff personality that turned off men. She wasn't exactly feminine, with her muscles and short temper she often got into spats with people. There were few people who she could call a real friend. Keilana missed Animah and wondered how she was doing.

It had reached her ears that Animah had gotten together with a Alkidike and had even started a family with her. It made her feel even lonelier. She missed the magic using woman and though she was unsure about her feelings of alkidikes she would be supportive. At least she was pretty sure she could be. Lifting her hammer she examined it in the fire light before she placed it down by her side and went to retrieve breakfast. Scarfing it back with little manners (what was the point when there was no one around) and then went back to gather the weapon.

Though war time was over she never missed a day of training with the weapon. She still found the thing a bit unweildly, the actual head of the hammer too large and heavey to swing properly, the shaft to short to land proper blows unless one was pretty accurate. Still despite her grumbles about the weapon she practiced with only silent complaints. Sometimes her brother would stop by while she practiced. They would banter back and forth as he would often tease her about her being more manly than most men in which she would get angry...and then he would leave. On the days he stopped by she felt that rekindling of loneliness spark itself back into life after he left. Sometimes it would dampen her mood immediately after he left and other times her mood would be lightened until the empty house reminded her how...lonely she had become.

Her kids were grown up, she felt old despite being in her prime perhaps she should just...get over the fact that she would live her life always alone. A pessimistic view and thought process, but without anyone to talk to it was always the way she ended up thinking. Maybe it was time for her to see about visiting Animah a nice talk with her precious friend sounded like a good idea. Perhaps she could get these dark thoughts out of her head.

Solo - One less problem without you

Perhaps it was one of those things that Keilana thought she wanted. She was lonely and perhaps she was having a bit of a mid life crisis. She thought she knew what she wanted and that was to be wanted and loved. So leaving her hammer at home she tried to find an outfit that showed off her best qualities that being her abbs and toned muscles. The leaf woman was proud of her body, especially since she had given birth to twins and still managed to regain her form.

She went to their village, trying her best to look pretty whilst still maintaining her imposing figure. Going to the local inn she felt the need to meet with people thought most people found her a bit...much. With such revealing clothes she came on a bit too forward and most felt like she was perhaps trying a bit too hard to be friendly. It was frustrating to say the least but she didn't exactly want to give up.

"What is their problem..." She would mutter, she was pretty sure if her boys were here she would of died of embarrassment as she never dressed in such a fashion at home. Taking a glass of meed she downed half the glass before she sighed and leaned back in her chair. Should she just go home? Day after day she had come to this inn to try and see if she could meet anyone interesting, it wasn't like she was hunting for a man...a woman would be fine at this point. But she was prejudice and a bit racist. Any alkidike who did show interest in her she gave the cold shoulder as she just...couldn't go that route. It caused the hairs on the back of her neck to prickle and made her sick to her stomach.

"Hey there pretty lady. Mind if I join you?" Came a smooth voice, looking over she noted the man who was speaking to her was an Oban. Her nose crinkled and her mouth turned into a sneer.

"Move on Oban I want nothing of what you offer." She stated haughtily as she went to down the rest of her drink. Another was brought to her hand as she raised an eyebrow at the bartender. She looked over to see that that darker skinned oban had sat beside her and was smiling at her. Giving him another scowl she pushed the glass a bit roughly in his direction.

"I don't want what you have to offer Oban." Keilana restated as she noted how the glass had spilled a bit of its contents onto the counter.

"Oh come now..your going to make me drink alone? I am just a visitor here don't let me feel so lonely." He stated with another smile.

It felt like a dangerous smile, like the one a predator would give when it had its prey in sight. Keilana didn't like it and even more so when the drink was pushed back in her direction. Perhaps though it was the word he used. Lonely that struck her stupid. Her icy look softened slightly as she found her hand wrapping around the glass before she gave him a curt nod.

"Fine. Only one drink though." Keilana declared as she went to lift the drink to her mouth.

"Alright then miss. Just one." He agreed and didn't push it. Keilana wondered what exactly was his plan. After all he wouldn't just buy her a drink and expect nothing in return would he? Not even..conversation?

The silence stretched on between the pair as they both drank their beers. Sighing she finally turned towards the Oban, looking him over she noted that he looked strong though she had a hard time pinpointing the type of weapon he would wield as they were not allowed inside the inn.

"What do you use?" The question came abruptly from her mouth and even the Oban had stopped mid drink to then look at her.

"Pardon?" He inquired not exactly sure what she meant.

"What weapon...what do you wield. You can't tell me you got those muscles by plowing fields." Keilana stated bluntly. She was actually loosening up a bit with the alcohol in her system though she was only interested in what weapon he used and nothing more. At least she was opening up.

"Oh...great sword." The oban managed after a moment as he then went back to his beer. "Why? You use a sword?" He inquired now his own curiosity sparking or at least that was it seemed like.

"Eh...no I use a hammer." Keilana managed as she finished off her beer, it had tasted good and left her feeling quite good about herself. "I am probably the strongest one here." She continued feeling quite smug and rather full of herself. The oban only nodded his head curtly.

"Well perhaps the strongest woman...I doubt you could beat me." He stated with a boast as he placed his glass rather firmly down on the counter.

Keilana stood up quickly nearly knocking her own stool over as she did so.

"is that a challange oban?" She stated rather loudly earning the looks of most of the other patrons in the inn. And earning a glare from the innkeeper across the room.

"Its Nuvan, not Oban. And if you want a 'challenge' I bet you couldn't handle me." He stated smugly. Her hand darted out to grab ahold of his shirt pulling him closer to herself.

"Want to bet?" She growled as she released the shirt when the 'bouncers' were headed in her direction. Huffing she placed her coin down onto the counter before she left the inn. Though they knew her and probably wouldn't of been rough she didn't want to get into a fight with people who were from her village.

Going outside she leaned against wall waiting to see if perhaps the Oban would come outside. Perhaps she had cowed him...for no one came out and she waited quite awhile for this Nuvan fellow to come out of the inn. Disappointed she gave a heavy sigh...just when she thought something interesting was going to happen it didn't pay out. What she would of loved to face off with the oban..get up some pent up anger.

Ah well...pushing herself away from the wall she figured he was one less problem. If she had actually gotten into a fight with him things could of turned out ugly. If only she had known it wasn't going to be the last she saw of Nuvan.
