The gnomes gathered at the dreaded door, their instinct to stay the hell away from Hellma's office overwhelmed by another instinct. A manlier instinct.

"Do you see 'er?"

Name: Shine
Nicknames: Crybaby; not sure you could make "Shine" any more nicknamey. XD

...except for "Shhh" but that's a demand around her, not much of a nickname.
Gender: Female
Age: 14

Faction/Race Undead (Left 4 Dead Witch species)

Personality: Shine is the kind of girl who can easily scare others off with her negativity. She doesn't really mean to be so miserable - she's just a hopeless (no pun intended) pessimist. She likes to play and seems to really enjoy affection, but isn't socially adapted enough to know the best way to go about getting it.

Meek and generally quiet, Shine is not an outgoing little zombie in the slightest. She doesn't like being the center of attention in a large group, and prefers one-on-one conversation.

She is a bit of a loner, despite her desire for friends. She's just very, very bad at keeping them. Gravitating towards extremes, she tends to smother her friends with overeager affection or not give them enough. Moderation is key, but Shine doesn't know the definition of the word.

Do not startle the Witch. Shine hates, hates, hates surprises. She can't seem to make the necessary connections for proper reactions when she's scared, and would most likely fly into a kicking, screaming, flailing tantrum. Calming her down at this point is pretty difficult (although she does respond positively to the smell of sweets, to GENTLE hugs, and to being called by her name). Unless you're certain you can get her to stop, t's best to just get away at that point; she might not mean to hurt you, but the chance is there.

Uh oh, you startled the Witch. What now? Uh, uh, don't panic...! Just...just try to move. Move. GO.

Shine has a bit of a problem that she can't fix when it comes to being startled. Whether it's an artifact of a time she can't remember (could those pesky lights and lanterns also have something to do with this?) or a reflex caused by some crossed 'wires' in her deteriorating brain, she seems to have a very specific reflex - one that scared = IMMEDIATELY CLAW THE ******** OUT OF EVERYTHING AROUND, BAWWWW. Though it isn't technically outside of her physical capability to go a little crazy with the clawing, it generally only happens when she's frightened. This is partially because of her jumpiness, but largely because Great Candlejack it can be embarrassing. It makes playing certain games or watching certain movies pretty difficult.

Hobbies: Because she is usually isolated, she picked up activities that can be done solo. She tried knitting, and does still like to do it, but intestine-scarves are not very practical and yarn has this really weird tendency to snag on chunks of disintegrating flesh. Instead, she likes to read books (especially happy stories, which she regards as high fantasy); she would probably be a nerd girl if she had the intelligence to back it up. She's just a geek at heart with a blonde bimbo's brain.

Though she is not especially tomboyish, she does like to play in the dirt. She builds happy little houses of moss, dirt, and fungi as well as her clawed hands will allow. As one could assume, large clawed fingers aren't the best for playing in miniature, so she knocks a lot of it over.

She thinks that she would like a happy little house like these one day.

Likes: Friends, hugs, happy things. She enjoys praise, especially when it boosts her confidence re: intellect or friend-making. Creativity. Being truly good at something. Anything and everything sugary.

Dislikes: Attention from large groups. Lanterns and flashlights (she couldn't explain why if asked - it might be something residual from her breathing-life, but she's genuinely phobic). Anything that takes confidence. Surprises.

Why are they enrolled in Amityville Academy? Shine just wants hugs.

Friends would also be nice.

Physical Description:
Eye Colour: If possible, red pupil, black sclera. If that doesn't fly, a cornflower blue is good. c:
Hair Colour/Style: Very pale straw yellow, stringy like it has too much product in it. She wears a smiley skull hairclip kind of like this one.
Skin Colour: A warm gray, dirtied on her extremities.
Clothing Style/Colours: See refs/pictures! <3 For her shirt, maybe something that might have looked girly a long time ago, but is now totally ruined? Think faded, bleached out, dirtied, bloodied, ripped, etc.? <3

FEAR: Zombies can't do much as far as metabolizing sugary goods go - but Shine can at least make it work for something! If she has consumed something sugary (and she would really have to be in a pinch to have not), Shine can draw from the treats to increase her haste.

When Shine uses her FEAR, she can, of course, move faster than her zombie body would typically allow. This initial burst of speed counteracts her general lack of accuracy. The use of her FEAR does have a physical appearance - she seems almost akin to a child that has gotten into the sugarbowl. Wide eyes, a creepy grin, jittery motions, and her creepiest hungry-zombie noises are among the indicators.

Here is what typically happens after she takes that first FEARenergized step towards her opponent:

1. her target moves, as he/she probably should unless they have some kind of defense
2. her target sits tight, which is probably not a good idea

The consequences of each are as follows (let's just hope and assume that 1a/b are most likely XD):

1a. Shine uses her FEAR and temporary hastening to relentlessly chases down her target. She catches him/her and flails wildly with her claw-hands. It does not feel good to her target.
1b. Shine relentlessly chases down her target, who manages to advantage of her lack of accuracy and lack of consistent speed. She doesn't catch him/her. She probably cries.

2a. She reaches him/her and flails wildly with her claw-hands. It does not feel good to her target.
2b. Shine regards him/her with confusion before hugging him/her relentlessly.

Her haste/FEAR allows her to have a very impressive starting momentum, but her body is not so willing, so the speed tapers off. Thus, it's easy for her to catch a target monster that doesn't move very far within the first few moments or so, but she'd have a bit more trouble with a sensible moving target. She is more inaccurate than not.

How would this work in battle? Maybe a diceroll to determine how much speed she is able to obtain from her candy eating binges? The higher her attack speed, the higher likelihood that she lands a hit (speed would make up for lacking accuracy).

Natural Ability: Maybe you wouldn't be proud if your specialty was crying, but Witches have this down to a science. Well, as much as any zombie could...

As with every other progressing species, Shine's particular variety of zombie - the Witch - has used the minor tweaks of eventual evolution to their advantage. Very similar to the way the anglerfish baits it prey with an alluring light, the Witch's cry is meant to draw in the sympathetic. Of course, any old ghoul could turn on the waterworks in hopes of attracting a kinder creature, and that is where Witches are a little different. Even if you have a nagging feeling not to go close to that poor, crying girl, you find yourself fighting off another nagging feeling caused by their ability: well, it would only be one hug. Maybe just long enough to ask her if she's okay...?

Though generally used as a predatory tactic to get some good eatin', Shine tends to use it as a sort of cheat-sheet for attracting friends.

The Witch:

The Witch is a member of the Infected, and the only one initially passive to the Survivors. She is also the only non-playable Special Infected, deemed to be "too dangerous" by Valve. She resembles a long, platinum blond haired Infected with a torn-at-the-stomach shirt along with white underwear, with long, sharp claws for fingers. The Witch makes loud and eerie noises which resemble sobbing when in her 'passive' state. The noise can be heard long before the Witch is ever seen, allowing the player a chance to prepare a plan to deal with her. In the nighttime she crouches and slumps over, mostly immobile. During the daytime (in Left 4 Dead 2 only), she will sob standing up and will slowly wander, with her hands up to her face. The Witch, like the Boomer and a few other Special Infected, can cause problems when you shoot her. When a Survivor gets too close to a Witch or damages her without killing her outright, she becomes 'startled'. When she is startled, she screams and advances on the Survivor that has startled her with great haste. Once she has reached the Survivor, she will slash at him/her, instantly incapacitating (or actually killing, only on the Expert mode or Realism on any difficulty) him/her. If the Survivor is incapacitated by her attack, she will continue to claw at him/her until either the Survivor or the Witch herself is dead. If she is still alive and the Survivor is dead, she will run off sobbing out of sight. The exceptions to this result of damaging her being a close up head-shot with a shotgun, a well-placed Pipe bomb, or (on Easy difficulty) one hit with the Chainsaw.

The Witch has been heavily mutated by a strain of The Infection, in terms of physical strength rather than appearance. Though resembling a typical female Infected, she has sharpened elongated fingers, similar to an effect of Marfan syndrome known as Arachnodactyly. Sometimes when a Witch is around Francis might say "I smell a Witch *sniff* *sniff* and she is close," and in the beta version of the opening trailer Louis comments upon startling the "Funky smelling b***h!" which means the Witch could have a putrid odor. Similar comments are made about the other Infected, meaning they could all have their own distinguishing odors. In an interview with Chet, he claims that the Witch has a strange attraction to the smell of sugar, explaining why there are a large number of Witches near the Sugar Mill in Hard Rain. Her choice of attire when compared to other Infected could indicate a raised body temperature such as a fever, which could also explain the sluggishness, constant signs of distress and irritability.

Due to her mutation, the Witch has gained a massive increase in strength, enabling her to incapacitate or instantly kill Survivors in one hit. Needless to say, great care is vital on Expert. Her strength is not visible via muscle growth, unlike the Tank. She is known to cry when not aware of the Survivors, though the exact reasoning behind it is unknown. It is possible that it was an evolutionary advantage, meant to lure unsuspecting Survivors to her, as further demonstrated in the intro of Left 4 Dead when Bill and Zoey go to investigate her crying, thinking she may be a Survivor. Even though her mentality is largely similar to that of the typical Infected, she is not distracted by things like the flashing lights and beeps of a pipe bomb. She is also not apparently attracted by things such as car alarms going off, though this will alert her of the Survivors' presence. Oddly, she glows red in dark areas, possibly due to her glowing eyes.

Book of Happy Endings
Shine didn't anticipate the book's 'transformation' into a little bird.
She calls him "Bird of Happy Endings" on the occasions that she remembers he's no longer a book.

Candy
She won't mind if this one never grows. Poor minipet.
