"GOOD MORRRNING AMITYVILLE SPECTATORS! Welcome to day one, that is correct, Day One of the Trials! These will be taking place shortly, but first, a word from our sponsors!"

While a squeaky gnome voice talked about the benefits of minipet hygiene, several professors and Amityville faculty had already begun to escort students down the hallways. At the very front gates was a giant portal, a huge rectangular structure with a rather impressive oak frame closely monitored by a patrol of security gnomes and several choice Bogeymen. Accompanying them at the base of the gate was what could only be classified as the general mass, from interested parents, to even students from other schools, to everything in between. Bright flashes could be seen sporadically throughout the extremely massive crowd: even the Halloween Daily was here, most likely to report about the "condition" of Amityville yet again, a fashionably dressed vampire questioning a group of concerned Amityville parents about if they knew that they were sending their kids into a dangerous school.

Not a second later, one of the bogeymen ushered the crowd to stop dawdling and move forward, pushing several lingering groups right through the portal -

- Onto a brilliant, sunny beach. A refreshment stand was already waiting for all spectators, selling delightful cool drinks from various Mixers Remixed to Floresce Popsicles. Several of the earlier arrivals had already seated themselves under various open umbrellas stacked against the pristine white sands. A warm breeze that may have been more tolerable for non-ice element creatures ruffled the palm trees, making everything seem a little too idyllic, why, there were even signs of sea life, not minipets but real sea life: what looked like extremely ordinary birds flying above. Lastly, on both sides of the spectator umbrellas, were large screens, at least twenty feet high, currently displaying the face of the mysterious announcer.

"And now to your regular programmed schedule!" The announcer was a cheerful, lanky undead. He was currently balancing two gnomes on his shoulders, both who were squabbling with each other, their antics occasionally making the announcement hard to understand. "I will be your official games host and guide for these Amityville Four Clans Trials, the very first time any established school in Halloween Town has had this honour. The Four Trials each take place in a ragged and dangerous terrain in a small, isolated section of the Human World, and you can see the first course is no exception." The sun continued to shine brightly, the waves lapping gently against the sand. "And now, may we present to you... our mayor and the Four Clans Rulers!"

There were several audible gasps, especially from the students: however, as the camera never quite actually angled towards where the Mayor or the Four Clans leaders were sitting, and the crowd was unfortunately rather large, now greatly populated with various Four Clans members, easily identifiable by their strange, culturally themed outfits, the only surprise was really, that they were somewhere in the crowd watching the event.

"And now, may we present to you, the participants of the Trials!" The large screen faded to black, and there seemed to be some cursing involved, but as the screen cleared, all the seated spectators could clearly see a Four Clans member, followed by one jittery secretary, leading each team of students towards the spectator area, and then to the flat arena set up in front of it. Each group was requested to stand next to their marked flag - the flag with their team's name - spaced roughly five to six feet away from each other, giving them quite a bit of working space. The crowds broke into notable cheer - a couple of parents remarking 'That's my boil' or 'There's my ghoul!' before suddenly, the leading horsemen, the one organizing the groups, raised a red flag. A gnome quickly rushed over to hand him an ickycom.

"Thank you all for attending, we will now take this time to explain the first of the four trials, the Trial of Famine. As you can see in front of you, each group has been given a small area to work with, and must, within the time constraint of four hours, create a sandcastle. They will be given the choice of one of six items that they can use on their sandcastle, as a bonus, which an attendant will be coming around with. Fears and natural abilities are off limits, but participating Trials teams are free to use any environment resource they see in their area on their sand castle. This is not an aesthetic contest by far: the Clan of Famine prides ourselves in our ability to scavenge, create, build, and survive. The teams' goal, as practicing Clan members, is to build the most practical, sturdy, and long-lasting sandcastle. At the end of the four hours, I will raise the red flag, which will signal the end of the building phase. At that point in time, any spectators will be allowed to visit and look at the structures. Guests and spectators, please refrain from commenting on structures, but simply limit yourself to words of encouragement. Make sure to walk along the escorted path around the sand structures as to not damage any of the teams' work."

"Lastly, after the hour of visiting, all spectators will be asked to return to their booths, where part two of the Trials of Famine will commence. All teams and their structure must survive attacks from the harsh environment around them. If their structure has not collapsed, it will then be assessed for overall presentation. One final winner will be chosen from the groups and two runner up teams." A crab scuttled by one of the team member's feet. The palm trees continued to billow in the soft wind. The environment surely was simply too harsh.

"Teams can now commence building." The spectators erupted once again into loud cheers.

OOC

IF YOU ARE A SPECTATOR:

- You can either use your non Trials character OR you can create a GUEST STUDENT character. Please only use a GUEST STUDENT character if you have a character quest already up and running and make sure to adhere to the TiH roleplaying guidelines. NATURAL FORMS ARE NOT ALLOWED, please only use their "humanoid" forms, due to obviously, limited spectator booth area.
- THIS THREAD IS THE ORP for all spectators! Feel free to post your student, interact with other students, ask questions, so on so forth.
- PLEASE DO not roleplay "parents" or other characters, and simply leave them as 'npcs'. Your character can make note of them or briefly exchange a couple of words, but we want to keep TiH obviously student-centric
- Unfortunately you will not be able to play Hunters in golems at this time, sure they have free time but not this much free time
- This ORP can potentially get large! Make sure to QUOTE whomever you are talking to. If you wish to have your char ICly leave the spectator booth, make sure to post an EXIT post for them at the bottom of their post (they head back towards the portal out) and then an ENTER post if they come back in so that everyone knows!

IF YOU ARE A CONTESTANT:

- After a full night's rest (or not!), you notice it is rather late before you are contacted and escorted by a gnome to the front gates, where a different Four Clans member, yet same Amityville secretary awaited you. Though the gates are surprisingly, unpopulated, as you walk through and see the spectators already waiting, it becomes clear as to why they contacted you a little later on. Each of your teams is now assembled on the beach, ready to start the Trials. DO NOT RP IN THIS THREAD BUT SIMPLY READ THE THREAD LINKED BELOW:
- PLEASE CHECK HOW TO MAKE A SANDCASTLE/ ASSEMBLE A TEAM RP THREAD HERE
- A couple of groups are handed a mysterious sealed envelope. Is this the bonus that they have worked so hard to earn? Please check the mechanics thread HERE to see what the item is and what it does.
- There is also a DAILY STATUS EFFECT in play! Be sure to check in on it HERE (though it will not be in play until AFTER the sandcastle building phase
- The spectator "area" is a little behind you, though they can all see what each team is clearly doing through the alternating screens.
- Please go HERE to further review the mechanics of the first part of the Trials! Good luck all groups!

The beginning of the trials had come, and Shun was feeling rather sour about the whole thing. He wanted to participate, but no. Instead, he had been ordered to sit in the sidelines to keep track of the horsemen. And if he didn't want to raise suspicion or anything like that with his old man, he was going to have to oblige. Even so, it didn't make him happy to do so.

At least it was.. a nice day, he supposed. No doubt he was going to get sand everywhere after this, however. Another annoyance, but not one he'd be free of if he wasn't out. Finding a spot, he sat himself down onto the sand while staring out at the areas the teams were supposed to gather up. One thing that caught his eye was the team with Titus. And who was in it.

Hissing under his breath, he felt a surge of spite spike up within him. He was going to be keeping an eye on that team. Namely if Titus did anything to Xiu. It'd give him another reason to beat him down if possible.

As far as the subject matter of the trials were, he couldn't help but feel a little... confused. There had to be more to it other than building sandcastles. It wouldn't be much of a trial otherwise.

Mainly since Shun had to sit out on the trials Mitsu had decided to sit out as well but that didn't keep her from going to cheer on her friends. The lycan could tell her boilfriend was in a foul mood of sorts but she hoped the atmosphere would help lighten his outlook. It was such a pretty place! Nothing like Mitsu had ever seen before. The closest she had come to water was the stream by the school, pools, and whatever had crashed over them in Savage's classroom.

Tail wagging she took in the sights as Shun sat down, intrigued by the life around them. All these creatures looked so strange, nothing like they had back home.

"Shun, Shun!" Mitsu pointed above them to a seagull. "What's that? Ooo Ooo look." Already she was distracted spotting a little crab wandering across the beach with a distinctive lack of undergarments over it. How odd! She followed it a ways getting on her hands and knees only stopping again when she came upon a seashell. It was like she had found a buried treasure and she quickly picked it up and took it over to the reaper with the brightest expression. She was like a giddy child at the moment grinning from ear to ear.

The sun, the sand, the heat - aaaah, this was wonderful! Cameron's normally untidy hair was tamed into an equally wilde ponytail, her clothes consisting of loose fabric, various jewelry, and . . . some generous skin showing. But then, she thought, who wouldn't be showing some skin in this heat? Funny, though, the creatures were so . . . non-magical. How could humans stand it?

As she waded in the shallow water, enjoying the sensation of her feet sinking into the sand, her familiar Lafayette decided to investigate the other audience members, as he was incapable of not poking his long snout into something. Like a scaly, lap-sized puppy, he gamboled through the dunes until he spotted a fuzzy white thing, which he'd never seen before! o3o The lil' gator waddled over unabashedly to the pair of strangers, adding to the lycan's coos. "Wassa thaaaat?" he asked, eyes bright with curiosity as he moved to sniff the seashell.

Mitsu's eyes grew wide at the unfamiliar voice looking from side to side until she finally looked down finding its source. For a moment she thought it was a strange creature from the beach but a little closer and she could smell that it was made up of FEAR. Tail still wagging from her new found curiosity of her current surroundings she placed the shell down so the alligator could have a look.

"Hello there," Mitsu greeted, fingers tentatively reaching out to gently touch the scaly creature. She wondered what it was. The lycan had never seen one before.

Well one thing was for certain. Mitsu was excited enough for the both of them. Shun was too busy sulking right about now. When she started asking what was what, he turned to see what she was talking about, but he couldn't tell what that was.

"...What's what?" he asked quietly. When he saw how happy she looked, he couldn't help but gaze a little more softly. At least she was enjoying herself here so far.

Though, he was soon distracted by a creature coming in by them. A gator. He would have dismissed it for the most part, but then it spoke. Ah, it was someone's familiar then.

"That would be a seashell," he sighed.

Oh, a certain vampire wouldn't miss this for the world.

Armed with a huge black umbrella, sunglasses, and more sunblock than one could shake a stick at, good ol' Lou sauntered through the crowd. He had a swagger about him, not unlike your classic cocky b*****d who knew he looked good. Honestly, he had no idea a certain baku was down there in the competition. Not yet, at least.

No, for now he was busy skimming the area for an opportune place to sit. Oh, the brightness was killer, but damned if he'd let it ruin a perfect day of tail chasing. The easy ghouls were the ones who liked men that liked sports. At least this was what he assumed.

OOoooooh, look at the tail on that one.

The only thing careful about Lou was how he held the black umbrella over his head, otherwise he simply approached the wolf ghoul with avid interest. "OWW OWW! Aren't you a cute ball of fuzz? You can shake that tail in my direction any time." And there was that classic Lou C. Ferre wink to follow it up. Oh, he liked the short ones.

User Image

Of course it would only make sense that because of his attentiveness towards anything the opposite gender, the boil tended to miss out on things such as scenery and... Boil friends. Not that it would bother him either way.

As another person came on by, Shun's attention quickly shifted over to him. Especially when he started to hit on Mitsu. The Reaper's eyes quickly narrowed at the pale undead, glaring daggers at the guy. He didn't say anything... yet. But, he did pull his wolf a little closer to himself.

"A what? Ooooh, like-a the clam shells?" Blink. "Are those the same? It smells funny. My shells smell better." The distinct lack of FEAR was very, how do you say, inferior making. Silly humans. Lafayette's jaws opened a bit to try and see how it tasted, though the ghoul's outstretched hand made him turn it into a toothy grin instead - ooo, scrit scrits! He liked scrit scrits!

Turning to let her scratch some of the scales and bumps on his back (the ever hard to reach places, given his stubby limbs), the gator looked up at the boil who'd sighed the answer. "Is this reeeeally the human world?" he asked. "It's so bright. And waaaaaarm~" His tail gave a little wiggle of pleasure. "I can sunbathe aaaaall daaaay . . ." Clearly that was the highlight of his day, as opposed to watching the trials go on.

And then a third guy came along, which made Lafayette toss him a big-eyed glance, reading MOAR SCRIT SCRITS? OwO

Cameron, espying how quickly her partner had found himself among others, decided to saunter on over herself from the shallow water. My my, it seemed someone had some spice . . . She couldn't help but smirk as she approached.

It wasn't long after the arrival of the small scaly reptile that a shadow over fell Mitsu. Blinking a few times she looked up from her seat on the sand at the figure looming over her feeling Shun pull her a little closer. She leaned into the reaper though still regarded the stranger with an awkward smile of sorts.

"Umm...hello?" She blushed a bit at the cute comment but didn't know what to make of the second bit. "I...is there something in your eye?" Perhaps the undead had gotten some sand in his eye, that would explain the random one eye blink. And what was that strong odor? Mitsu had never smelled sunblock before and had never used it and the scent was enough to make her nose itch like mad.

All the while Mitsu continued to pat and scratch at the little gator much like one would do a dog or cat. It was odd but he was somehow cute with that toothy grin.

Sitting in the audience at the Trials felt a bit odd to Sparrow Heartreed - he rather wished he could have gotten a chance to participate in them. However, since he would not have that opportunity, it was best to just keep an open mind and a cheerful spirit.

Which was exactly what he did anyway, so it wasn't too hard.

It was immensely crowded and thick with various students, teachers, family, and friends filling all of the available space, all jabbering away, talking, laughing, shouting, a few that looked rather disgruntled about having to sit out, a few that were hanging around the umbrellas, eagerly trying to peer closer to the screens that expanded out above them. It was oddly warm, and very bright - Sparrow was not used to such an immensely sunny atmosphere - Amityville, after all, was a rather nice shade of grey ninety percent of the time - but now it was almost absurdly bright, and he kept squinting. After a moment or two he quietly, subtlely, plucked a shadow from his fingers and held it over his eyes like a pair of sunglasses.

Well that worked rather nicely. He decided to take residence beneath a large, neon yellow umbrella that gave a particularly wide range of shade beneath it, and sat down, leaning back and stretching out his legs. Oddly enough, he was not dressed in his typical ensemble, but was wearing a pair of simple black trousers, a white shirt that was unbuttoned at the collar, and a pair of shiny black shoes. Which, for Sparrow, was not nearly as formal as he usually was.

"Time to sit and watch, then," he said to himself, and settled back into a comfortable position.

He just wished he'd brought some snacks, since he didn't want to actually get up and go over to the snack booth.

Lazy Sparrow was lazy.

Jack already wished he was back in the shadows and comfort of the corridors of Amityville, his dark hair, dark skin, and dark fur did not bode well with the sun - but taking the initiative that he was given as a Spectator, he went with a soft white shirt, and his normal white pants, his regular jewellery amiss - with the exception of his collar, his Amityville necklace - a mark of a true student, and the mask, which was safely fastened to his belt.

Offering his arm to his partner, the little kitsune, Tomoko, who had accepted his offer for partnership during the trials, he slung his little bag over his other shoulder - filled with little knick-knacks they could use during the events to keep themselves amused during the boring times. The sun and the sand were . . . Alright, the kitking could admit.

Giving a soft sneer, he tried to hide his discontent with the sheer amount of parents hording around the sidelines, their eyes on every boil and girl that was in the process of building. . . Whatever it was they were doing - sand-stuff and all. This wouldn’t happen to him, but he didn’t feel like ruining anyone else’s sand and sun time.

“Care to do the honours and find us a nice spot?” He asked Tomoko, his eyes looking down at her, the sun cutting through the glow.

"Yeah, there's something in my eye. The sight of one fine ghoul." His eyebrows waggled amusingly as he pulled his sunglasses down slightly to reveal the... Slightly unsettling disposition of his eyes. They were... Spirals. And in the light it almost looked like they were moving.

Oh, but what was this? The pair of what Lou assumed were alien hands wrapping around the ghoul caused him to snap out of his female-caused stupor.

His strange orbs followed the hands to the arms, then to the torso, and finally to the head of this boil.

This SHORT boil.

Holy JACK he was short!

Lou's lips curled inward as he attempted to hold back a laugh for a 'short' time. Like a second. Then the damn broke. "AHAHA! Oh man, look at you! Dude, seriously. Look at you. You're so ******** short!" Comparatively, at least. "I could use you for an armrest. that's how short you are. Holy piss. Are you from a family of toadstools or what?"

Turning back to the lycan, a s**t-eating grin popped up on the vampire's face, showing off those elongated pearly whites. "Ghoul, I'm so sorry." Ahaha, too rich. Too rich.

Oh, would you look at that? Another hottie on the move. Mmmmmmm mmm. "Hey bab-WOAH" Lou's lack of attention to anything other than boobs was probably WHY he'd managed to trip over the gator that was in plain sight. Sand. Sand didn't taste very good. Not at all.

That was an extraordinary day for Shenny. You probably know such days: in fact, it could possibly turn to be either one of the best days in her life, or one of the worst. She finally submitted all the necessary documents to the fabulous Amityville, and now she realized, is the perfect opportunity to get a bit a closer to the world her future friends and foes are living in.

Being rational enough, Shenny realized today is the perfect opportunity. First day of the Trials!!! Hell, all the Halloween was talking about it over and over again for the last week or so. Clans, horsemen, Shenny was so excited with the stuff, it was really hard for her to hide her feelings, as she usually did. There was something romantic in the air, it was a scent of future, a scent of adventures. Even if today won't mean anything for her future - possible - life in Amityville, Shenny prepared to have a good time watching. She already pretended that may be, one day she will be there, along with the other students, or may be even horsemen!

"Hello, big world," whispered Shenny stepping out of the portal.

Savior was in the stands. Everyone needed to brace themselves because a Marrowstripe, in the sun, around a bunch of random people?

PERFECTLY HARMLESS.

She didn't know what she was doing there, or what she needed to be doing anyway, and she was more or less just enjoying the warmth that came from stepping out of the cold portal and into the sunshine. Savior liked sunshine, oh yes she did.

Today she happened to be fully clothed - tomorrow, who knew!
