Gabby had already wallpapered the ghost dorms, but he knew the range two little pets could get to with as much time as it had been. It was probably the first time he'd attempted an actual sleep cycle since he'd arrived at Amity. And of course, he'd done exactly the wrong thing - left his door open. He was surprised these were the only pets missing, but these were the only pets he cared about.

Not that he'd admit that to anyone.

So he entered the undead dorms, and started wallpapering their notice boards with a simple black and white sheet of paper. It had minimal info on it, and a single small picture of his missing pets.

These days, Shine rarely - if ever - opted to leave her dorm room. It was becoming a bit of a problem, really, considering the fact that this was a school and not an apartment building, but she'd crossed that hurdle once before. They would cut her some slack again. Probably.

When she did leave, she never strayed far; the undead dorms were plenty large for nighttime walks, and most of them kept to themselves. The witch did her part in that, never even meeting the gaze of anyone she passed in the halls.

But as her eyes fell on the boil in front of her, she just couldn't help herself. Hand shaking, she reached up to touch his wings, stopping just short of them. She didn't like when people touched her without permission, so...maybe she should ask first.

She cleared her throat, and the tiniest voice emerged from behind the ghostly dragon.

"E...excuse me, um...but...I noticed you...I like your wings, and...dragon, um..." Ashamed, she wrung her hands and looked away. Maybe she should have tried harder to stay in the practice of communication.

Gabby turned when he was done sticking the last paper in, confident that it was eye catching enough. He hadn't the faintest idea if putting twenty papers up was better than just one, but he wasn't taking any chances. When he turned, the ghoul had been so quiet, he'd failed to realize she was there. He stilled in shock, but relaxed when she spoke. It was clear he had nothing to fear from the little mouse of a ghoul, meekly complimenting him on features he already knew were awesome. At the thought, he flared his wings out proudly, and gave her a cocky smirk.

"Yeah. I can't blame you." He murmured quietly, pride dripping from his voice. He liked the ghoul already - she appreciated the right kind of things. Her shyness was a calming presence, but as time wore on and she said nothing more, he shifted slightly with discomfort. "I like your.." What? What did he like about her? He wasn't in the business of liking things about people.. but she deserved a return to the compliment. "Eyes." He settled on, after scouring her for features. "They're real pretty." Not as pretty as his wings, though. It was important he found a way to get back to how pretty he was.

"So, you a fan of dragons? Know any others?" He hadn't met any yet, himself.

The dragon boil spread his wings, and Shine thought she might faint, overwhelmed by his excellence. And he'd complimented her back! Her eyes! But her eyes weren't anything special, and they must have been all ruined when she died, because there was blood in the places where there should have been a normal color...she managed a twitch of a smile as she tried to convince herself that he meant it.

"Oh! Um...ohh, I love dragons!" Her voice was still soft, a little whisper, but she seemed more excited now. "I only know...well, I like him a lot, I...maybe we're friends, but...but he's Aymet, and undead like me, and blue...blue like you, but..."

Fumbling with a leather cord around her neck, she eventually managed to pull a pendant from her shirt. She held it towards him, leaning forward when the cord's length didn't quite make it as far as she'd hoped.

"I went on an...an adven...a quest with my friend Aymet, and um...we found this stuff, and...and this is to make me strong, and it wasn't a dragon, but dragons are strong so..." She tapped vaguely at the blue nail polish. "I made it a dragon! So...so yes. You look so nice, and so powerful, and..."

Pausing, she fixated on his wings again.

"Could...could I, maybe? Just touch them, um, I mean...if..."

The more Gabby listened to Shine, the more he came to realize and accept that he was talking with the literal polar opposite of Sibyl. Her words came slow and oddly paced, and he wondered if he was making her nervous. Then, he wondered if he liked that. It was a terrible thought, one of many that Gabby had; all in a days work for a jerk.

"I've never met Aymet. Undead, huh?" He was immediately disinterested in the boil. It wasn't that Gabby did not like undead, he simply couldn't imagine that the boil was any better, handsomer, or stronger than he was. An undead dragon was probably falling apart at the seams, and posed no competition for Gabby. So he shrugged it off and bent in to get a good look at the pendant she was showing him. His eyes squinted and he chuckled softly. This girl really liked dragons. For a moment, he wondered if he should back away before this friendship became obsessive, but then she showered him with compliments again, and won him over completely.

His eyes flickered up to look at her, fully aware of how close leaning in to see her pendant had brought him. Gabby didn't particularly enjoy people touching him, but if she was going to butter him up that hard..

A sly smile accompanied his next words. "Only if you're gentle."

Shine could be gentle, she could be anything he asked her to be, and though her fingers shook as she dropped the talisman and gingerly ran her claws over his spectral wings, it was still evident that she was taking great care to not hurt him.

"They're so...niiice," she cooed, eyes full of wonder. "I wish, um...I could have them...someday. Wings." Even as she pulled away, she made sure her nails didn't scrape him. She couldn't forgive herself for harming something so magnificent.

But with that accomplished, she really had nothing more to ask of the boil. Shyly, she just stared up at him for a few moments, rocking back and forth on her heels. What could she do now that wouldn't be rude? Did she need to offer something to him to regain the balance of conversation after the wing-touching? It was obvious that some kind of complicated plan was trying to work its way through her mind, because she froze, staring up at him, until she finally blurted out the first thing that made any sense.

"Do you need to...to touch something of mine?" she squeaked. It appeared that she was trying to shrink in on herself, arms drawn close to her chest, knees pressed together. She didn't want to think of how it might feel to have her eyes touched, but if it meant not offending a dragon...

While he'd been teasing her about being gentle, he could tell she was taking his words very, very seriously. She'd hardly touched it before she pulled away, and his smirk faded into a confused frown. He did think his wings were perfect, but he didn't know why she revered them so. "You're undead." He reminded her, with a quiet but short tone. "You probably could dig some up and have them attached. If you really wanted them." They wouldn't be anywhere near as good as his.. but the ghoul could dream.

And now she was staring up at him, and Gabby got the sense that he'd overstayed his welcome. Even if she liked dragons, she didn't seem to like talking to him very much. Maybe he wasn't as interesting as he thought.. or maybe..

Gabby's distracted thoughts focused sharply on what she'd just offered. He didn't think touching her was going to help them talk, but if it made her feel like they were even - maybe that was why she was so shy in the first place. His hand lifted, and cupped her cheek. It seemed the most rational thing to touch. But as he held it there, a far more terrible thought started to form.

"Uh." He wasn't focused on her eyes, anymore - just really curiously staring at her lips, as if there was some hidden message in them that he could figure out if he squinted just so. "Maybe? Can I ask you a favor?"

The suggestion to have some wings attached brought Shine another pause. She could do that?! Ever since she'd awoken in Halloween, she thought that being an undead was one of the most awful things imaginable, but wings...! Maybe this wasn't so bad after all!

Her thoughts were racing through all the images of 'wings' that she'd seen while at Amityville, wondering how close she might be able to get to wings like Aymet's, when she felt his palm against her cheek. She jumped, stiffening, and tried to calm herself down before she dared to meet his gaze, afraid that he might see the panic there.

She stared, her lip quivering as she tried to make herself answer him. No manner of affirmative response would come out, no matter how hard she tried. Not even a little 'yes'. Giving up on her ability to talk, she chose to nod instead; though it was almost imperceptible, it would have been difficult to miss while touching her face.

The nod was enough, so Gabby set his brows into a deep furrow, and steeled himself for an awkward question. It was a good thing he was strong enough to ask - if he'd been as shy as her.. maybe he'd never know.

"Would it be okay if I kissed you? Don't like.. get any weird ideas. I just, I'm really confused about kissing." He sighed sharply and his lips thinned as they pursed in dismay. "I think I got the wrong kind of introduction to it, and I want to fix that. But, you know. If that's not cool, you can just say no." Though it was clear his next few words were a lie, he shrugged nonchalantly to cement their value. "Not like I care either way."

A dragon was asking to kiss her.

With one 'yes', she could be kissed. By a dragon.

It was a good thing that Shine did not require breathing to exist, because now would be the exact time that she would begin to hyperventilate. Instead, she just continued to stare at him, brow twitching as if there was an expression in there fighting to get out. Slowly, with movements as gentle as she'd used to touch his wings, she brought her hand up to cover his, fingertips barely brushing the edges of his hand.

She wasn't sure how he could be confused about kissing. From what she knew - and had heard - it was nice to kiss someone. What could be wrong about something that felt nice? It seemed like such an easy thing to make sense of, but if a dragon was confused, she must have been missing something. And all she could do would be to help him understand whatever he needed to.

The only sound she could choke out was monosyllabic, so she just nodded again, still staring.

He almost felt bad about putting her in this position. He could tell that she was conflicted, and he was sure that she was trying to figure out a polite way to decline him without hurting his feelings. Luckily, Gabby thought he had no heart to injure, and felt prepared for the denial. If she'd actually turned him down, however, he would have struggled for weeks with thoughts of inadequacy. But when she nodded, none of those worries cropped up, and he zoned in on her lips again. After all, that was the important part.

It felt easier, kissing someone like this. He wasn't trying to prove a point, or win a competition, or one up someone else. He was just trying to feel something. So when he leaned in, his eyes stayed open until his lips felt hers, and then they closed. And he focused. Maybe a little too hard, because he could tell he wasn't letting himself enjoy it as much as he should, but he had to know. He had to understand if he'd lost something precious, in his first kiss.. or if he'd lost something precious by letting it go.

Shine's lips were smaller than his, and very soft. Cold, but he expected that. They yielded to him, and he molded them to his will, dipping forward again and again. And he could feel her shaking against his own lips. It almost made him smile, but he forced the amusement away, intent on not insulting her. After all, this was his first kiss with a ghoul. He didn't want this to mess up, as well.

Was he doing it right? He opened one eye to look at her, just to see if she enjoyed it. He knew that anything more than this would be too much to ask for, but he refused to pull away just yet. There was no telling if she'd ever let him do this again - he had to experience every moment.

For a short while, neither of them did anything, and Shine began to worry that she might have ruined this for him. But he was leaning towards her before her nerves got the best of her, and her eyelids quickly fluttered shut, leaving plenty of room for her other senses to bask in the moment.

His kiss was strong, but his lips felt like they were barely there, brushing against hers with a pressure that betrayed their appearance. She tensed, eager to have more but too timid to take it, the tip of her tongue daring to push forward to take a tiny taste of him; the little sample of his FEAR tasted like she might have imagined, graceful and powerful all at once.

The boil was far more skilled at this, and she almost felt ashamed at her lack of experience. Her fingers tightened over his hand, holding it for dear unlife as she began to feel a bit weak in the knees, her body consumed with an unfamiliar spark. There was a tightness in her chest that felt a lot like what she'd imagine a bursting heart to feel like, and she found herself unable to hold back a little trembling whimper. The urge to throw herself upon him (in a hallway, of all places) was becoming too strong, and that wasn't what he'd asked for, and she didn't want him to hate her, and it was just meant to be one kiss from him, and what if she was already messing this up and....terror got the best of her. She broke the kiss and pulled back, still clutching his hand.

"Um, I...I hope...you found..." Her gaze strayed to the side, and she idly reached to clutch the pendant around her neck. Whatever it was that he'd been looking for, she feared that she might have ruined it. She wondered if it might be okay to ask if he could kiss her again, kiss her as many times as it took to find the answer, because leaving him without one felt so selfish.

Especially after he'd let her touch his wings.

That was a tongue.

That was the first thought Gabby had when he felt the flicker of wetness, and it made his lips part in surprise. This ghoul had been timid. Shy. Quiet. Withdrawn. And yet, as he kissed her, she was the one that managed to pursue a deeper path. He almost felt ashamed, as if the tables had been turned and he was the ghoul in the situation, so frail and helpless to her whims.

She pulled away, and his lips were still parted in that same surprise as he tried to wrap his mind around what he'd just experienced. Did he like it? Jack, of course he did. He felt tingly and warm and ridiculous. But he'd felt that before, and it wasn't the question he'd been trying to answer. Yet he hesitated, staring down at her as the shyness returned, and he felt a pang of guilt and fear running through him. What, exactly, had he just done?

He put both of his hands against her cheeks, cupping her face to force it to look straight at him. And then he smiled.

"Yeah. Thank you."

Another stab of guilt hit him as yet another failure slapped him cold in the face.

"I'm Gabriel."

Maybe she'd be better off just running. Maybe she should go hide in her room and never come out again. Maybe she wouldn't ruin anything else that way.

Shine was already somewhere on the twentieth 'maybe' when he directed her to look at him. Her gaze darted to one side of the hallway, then to the other, and once to their feet, before finally settling on him. His eyes felt like they pierced deeper than they had before, and she shifted uncomfortably, hoping that seeing so much of her wouldn't mean that he could see how weak she was.

Despite that, he smiled at her, and she responded with a look of confusion. She'd...helped? She bit her lip, eyes threatening tears. She'd really helped?

She blinked once, and a tear fell free, inching through the dusty, sugary coating she'd allowed to build up on her cheek, stopping at his hand. It lingered there, waiting to be allowed to fall, until it was joined by another, and another...

"Gabriel..." she repeated, voice heavy with hesitance. "Gabriel, I...thank you, um, thank...you, too. I'm Shine."

That smile of his was gone the minute he saw the first tear.

"Aw, no, don't-" It was too late, the ghoul was crying, and it was all his fault. He sighed, and wiped her tears away with his thumb, pausing just for a moment when she said her name.

"Shine." A name that was also a verb. "Yeah." He chuckled. "I can see that. You do kind of shine." Especially now, tears running down her cheeks. He had nothing to give her for it, so he just offered one of the flyers for his missing minipet instead, as if that would somehow suffice for a handkerchief. "Listen, Shine, I owe you one now. Okay? So if you need something.." He looked at the crumpled paper in his hand, and then turned it around, so the writing was visible. "I guess, give me a call sometime. Yeah?"
