Name: Anabel Au
Nickname: Ana
Age: 25
Birthday: 2 January 1991
Sign: Capricorn
Gemstone: Black onyx
Blood Type: A+
Fav. Food: Anything she can coat liberally in khrenovina, a Siberian tomato/garlic/horseradish sauce. Especially bruschetta.
Hated Food: Herring. It should also be noted that Anabel is a vegetarian for health reasons.
Occupation: DMV Clerk, part-time student at DCU (Computer engineering)
Hobbies:
Wii Sports || Anabel was involved in a tragic mountaineering accident a few years back that left her with a limited capacity for physical exertion, but that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t still enjoy being in motion. She likes Wii Sports because it allows her to get up and move around while still being able to control her level of participation and stop if she needs to. She is a beast at Wii Tennis, but finds Wii Golf to be tedious. Do not challenge her at Wii Bowling: you will lose and lose badly.
Gaming || Anabel doesn’t just play games – she
conquers them. She’s a Pokemon master, her Animal Crossing town has a completed museum, and she has finished every last damn mission in Dragon Age. Anabel simply doesn’t feel like she’s gotten her money’s worth until she’s unlocked every ending, made every choice, and found every easter egg – and she prefers to do it all on her own. Anabel is reticent to check strategy guides until she can think of nothing else to find.
Swimming || Even though she’s made significant progress in her recovery, Anabel still isn’t going to be running any marathons any time soon. Swimming is a welcome reprieve from her more sedentary hobbies and job. She enjoys low-impact lap swimming and sometimes participates in water aerobics therapy. Her preferred lane time is early in the morning before classes, when the pool isn’t crowded and people are less likely to get annoyed with her for swimming too slowly.
Yoga || Anabel knows that she’ll never be quite what she was before her accident, but she still takes the healing process seriously – she’s got a lot to live for! She took up yoga at her doctor’s recommendation, and takes classes at the DCU gym every Thursday. She is also hella rad at the Wii Fit version and can hold tree pose like no one’s business.
Virtues:
Prepared || Anabel is cool under fire and adjusts easily to change, never getting so married to a plan that she can’t roll with the punches. She values her ability to keep calm in a crisis and come up with and deploy solutions. She has memorized all kinds of first aid and emergency safety facts and can communicate her knowledge clearly – as well as take action herself.
Upbeat || Anabel is, for the most part, a cheerful person. While she has plenty of experience with being upset, she tries not to spend too much time wallowing in self-pity. She is generous and believes in doing things for the common good, ready to share knowledge and help others for no other reason than it being the right thing to do.
Decisive || Anabel is good at making decisions and following through with them. She is not one to be paralyzed with uncertainty when put on the spot – she tries to consider her options logically, in a way divorced from her emotions, and then choose based on that. She feels that doing this keeps her from making short-sighted decisions and allows her to keep going even when faced with adversity.
Flaws:
Prideful || Anabel has a great deal of self-confidence, and that self-confidence leads her to be incredibly competitive. She’s easily goaded into dares, challenges, and bets – and when she’s met with success, she has a tendency to be a braggart. Losses, by comparison, she likes to sweep under the rug and move on from as quickly as possible – but she’s a sore winner who likes to rub her victories in for as long as she can.
Underhanded || Anabel isn’t good at dealing with direct interpersonal confrontation. When she has a problem with someone, she tends to talk to other people and get second opinions, dragging them into the conflict, creating drama, and leaning on them to take sides – she prefers to know whether someone is for her or against her, and is impatient with people who try to stay impartial. She tries to turn arguments into a sheer numbers game by explaining her side to people and trying to get them to deal with things for her.
Defensive || Once Anabel makes a decision, she stands by it, even if it eventually turns out poorly – she did the best she could based on the information she had at the time. Once she has time alone, she may reexamine her actions and try to determine where she went wrong – but she hates to let others see her weakness. She is especially sensitive to having her decisions and expertise questioned, and tends to turn cagey and hostile and say unkind things in response. She also
hates when people show pity for her.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: Silver
Hair: White-gray
Face: Heart-shaped, with a pointed little nose. Tan skin, lots of freckles.
Body: 5’4”. A healthy, unremarkable weight and build.
Clothes: Generally comfortable things when not at work, general professional attire when at the DMV. She favors athletic gear and big sweatshirts over jeans and blouses for her daily wear. She owns a pair of penny loafers, but that's it for dressy shoes.
Physical limitations: Anabel was in a mountaineering accident shortly after her senior year of college while participating in field work as part of a survey team. The avalanche killed the rest of her party, and had the search and rescue team not found her as quickly as they did, she would have died as well. Anabel suffered a severe crushing injury to her abdomen, and is missing a kidney, her uterus and ovaries, her spleen, and a significant portion of her small intestine. She also suffered from several broken ribs, a punctured lung, and had most of her liver removed - fortunately, livers grow back. Anabel tires easily and cannot participate in strenuous physical activity or stand for extended periods of time, and overexerting herself typically requires several days of recovery. She has been paired with a service dog, Mendel, who is trained to notice if she is becoming overly tired and remind her to take a break, and also to get her to safety and get help should she collapse.
