Annabelle sat down in the courtyard on one of the cement picnic tables and sighed harshly. Psych was hard and she didn't like it. It was boring and often times the white haired women fell asleep. Today, she decided to skip most of it and stay out here and just play her Pokemon game.

She had to grind to beat the next gym and honestly, Annabelle wasn't a fan of grinding. Slowly, she stretched her legs out, heels clicking as she crossed her legs at the ankles and just smirked. God. "What a paaaaaain," she groaned out. Yellow eyes locked onto her DS screen as she quickly turned it on. Her bag beside her on the ground, cup of coffee beside her hip. Maybe she would get that random streetpass again that's bee happening for months at school. Who else here was on campus with a DS?

It bothered her a little bit.

Anabel had about half an hour to kill before her next class - not long enough to go home, but long enough to get some gaming done. She was late to the Alpha Sapphire party, but doing her best to make up for lost time even though it was a slow process - she didn't like to move on from any area without catching every single Pokemon available.

She trailed a hand down to scratch her dog behind the ears and glanced around the courtyard. Anabel had been getting the same spotpass over and over lately... and she wanted to battle. Or trade. Or something. Randomly matching with people over the network was fun, but it lacked for communication... and being able to rub victory in other people's faces.

"Where are you, mystery Pokemon player?" she asked, fishing the stylus out of her DS.

And there it was, the spotpass. Annabelle's eyes squinted a little as she looked around for anyone else with a DS. The problem is that a lot of people could hide them so easily because they were small and easily concealed. Uuuugh.

"No, introduce yourself, mystery person!" She cried out loud, shaking her DS like it would help her. Since she didn't care about things right now, Annabelle stood up on the table and stamped her feet a little. "Excuse me, if this person with the DS could you know, come out of hiding and let me know who they are? We've been passing for months and I still don't know who you are!"

At the sudden commotion, Anabel looked up from her pokemon battle and saw another girl standing on a table, portable nintendo console in hand.

Slowly, she raised her hand and waved to her. "Over here," said Anabel, quirking a smile at the other girl's antics. She might not have thought of going that far, but hey, this was happening.

She set her DS aside and got to her feet, right hand extended in greeting. "Name's Anabel. This is Mendel."

Mendel looked very fetching in his service dog vest; it leant an air of dignity to his otherwise patched-together look. Here was a bit of pit-bull, here was a bit of Australian shepherd, here were two eyes that couldn't even be bothered to be the same color...

Of course, he went and ruined the effect by yawning widely and leaning against Anabel's leg. It was to be expected - not every dog was cut out to be a Purina model.

When the other came forward, Annabelle blinked and then grinned, shifting to get off the table top and took that offered hand, which she then shook and dropped. "Well, hello there! Seems we have a lot more in common than just our games." The DS was held up and shook a little before laughing. "I'm also Annabelle!"

Gold eyes flicked to the dog then and just gave a wide grin. She'd pet him, but she read somewhere you shouldn't pet service dogs. It'd distract them, or something. "Hello, Mendel, you're a cutie." She looked back to Anabel and just bounced on her toes a little. "So. You and Mendel here have been spotpassing me for months! I was so sick of not knowing who you were. Now I know."

She baked up a little and grabbed her cup to sip at before humming and looking at the girl again. "So. ...We should hang out or something."

Anabel laughed. "Well, that's a fun coincidence." She was willing to bet this girl spelled it differently, though... there were so many ways to spell it. (Hers being the correct way, of course!) "I was going to go get lunch once I caught a marill, but it's not spawning." She'd been surfing back and forth on the same patch of ocean for ten minutes, but, no dice. Anabel folded her DS and tucked it into her messenger bag. "I have class in about half an hour."

She shouldered her bag. "Walk with me to the dining hall?" she suggested. "I was just going to grab a sandwich and some tea."

"I'm working on a second bachelor's in computer engineering - first career didn't quite work out," she added, trying to keep the discussion going. "What are you studying?"

The white haired girl pushed her hair off her shoulder and then nodded and bounced a little. She was really excited about meeting someone else with a Pokemon game and someone who shared her name! She laughed a little more and just nodded.

"I can definitely do that. I'm studying psych right now, but.. I don't think it's for me." She waved her hand as she grabbed hold of her bag and shoved her DS in it with her free hand, coffee in the other. "I'm having a hard time keeping my eyes open during it. So.. I don't... have a major? I'm just kind of free floating until I figure out what I want to do with my higher education." Annabelle sighed hard and just shrugged. She should probably be ashamed she was twenty and had no idea where he life was headed, but here she was.

"So, a second bachelor's degree? That sounds fancy. I don't know much about working on computers, but I can definitely navigate my way through websites with ease."

Anabel wavered. "Not really fancy," she said. She thought she'd be on to a master's or starting her doctorate by now, but life had had other ideas. "I just had a change of plans, so now I'm back here. Getting a fresh start, as it were. C'mon, Mendel. Heel." She tapped the side of her leg, and her dog bolted to her side.

Pursing her lips at the other girl, she asked, "You're a... freshman? Sophomore? I'm sorry, I'm not great at ages. Anyway, you have time to figure it out. But to be honest, I don't think psychology's really for anyone. I don't know what the point of doing it in undergrad is. You've got to go to med school to practice it professionally, anyway."

They headed into the dining hall, where her dog attracted a bit of attention. Anabel seemed used to it, and Mendel stuck to her side, his body language strictly business. Anabel snatched up a sandwich from the prepared food case, then considered her drink options. "So, I take it you're not getting anything?" she asked. "I mean, I see you've got coffee already."

"Fancy to me," she huffed, grinning a little bit. Her eyes went down to the dog again and the urge to pet grew stronger. No. That'd be bad. Annabelle looked to Anabel again and then tilted his head a bit more and smiled. "Freshmen. It's fine, it's fine~ I.. get I look older and younger than I am," she said, waving her hand in front of her face as a dismissal.

She continued to walk with the other and hummed a little. "Oh, I might see what pastry they have. I want something sweet. ..Is it rude to ask why you have Mendel? I mean. I know it's rude to pet him, but.. I don't know about these things so I'm sorry?"

With that awkward question out of the way, Annabelle brought her coffee to her lips and sipped at it so she would seem a lot less awkward than she was.

Anabel narrowed her eyes at her near-doppelgänger. It was rude, she thought, but Annabelle was clearly not very experienced with these matters. "I was in an accident," she said, reaching into the refrigerator and pulling out a bottle of tea. Satisfied with her choices, she inclined her head towards the cash registers. "I was doing field work with a survey team. A mountain fell on me."

She smiled pleasantly and studied the other girl's face for some kind of reaction to that little tidbit.

"So, one life flight and several very grueling surgeries later, I am qualified to have a dog that's trained to know whether I'm about to faint," she concluded, stepping into the checkout line. "Lucky me, right?"

Her brows knit when she told the story and Annabelle gave a little nod and then bit down on her lip. "I see. I see! That's... good that he helps you out. I'm not sure about lucky, but. I'm just digging my hole deeper and deeper." That last part was muttered under her breath to herself and Annabelle let out a little uneasy laugh.

"Sorry. I'm sorry that happened, but I'm glad you'll have someone around that helps you with your situation." Meaning the dog. Annabelle bit down on her lip again and then clicked her tongue in a moment of thinking. "Say. We should...exchange friend info on the DS so we can trade or something later. What do you think?" She would love more friends on her list. As it was there was hardly anyone, and who better than her almost-not-quite twin?

Anabel shrugged off the other girl's awkwardness - she was used to people getting weird about her situation, and if she stopped to lecture all of them, she'd have no friends and never get anything done. Better to just get past it - it wasn't like she needed anyone's pity. She had her dog, and she was capable of taking care of herself.

"Yeah, let's," she agreed, shoving her lunch into her bag and pulling her DS back out. "We could have a battle. I've gotta warn you, though - I go full ham."

She held up her DS so that Annabelle could see the numbers on her screen. "You get that?"

Full ham? Annabelle found herself laughing at that and she poked her tongue out a bit as the numbers came into view. Pulling her DS back out, she quickly added the other to her list and then moved to the menu to pull up her own.

"Here you go! And... I gotta train a bit more! I've been goofing off and I only have like four badges, okay." Her cheeks flushed as she spoke the truth about her situation and then let her toes wiggle in her shoes. "So like... Let me get my last badge and then I'll totally battle with you. Oh, oh! If we have lunch together again, we should totally compare Pokemon. I think we're running out of time rather quickly." The woman let her lips thin out as she got the feeling she was going to be late even if she ran as fast as she could.

Anabel nodded. It wasn't fair to wail on someone who'd only finished half the game. "Definitely then." she agreed, copying down Annabelle's friend code. "And we can trade whenever."

At the mention of running out of time, she frowned and glanced at her watch. The break had gone rather fast, hadn't it? "If you have another class to get to, please, don't let me hold you up."

She should really get going as well, she thought, putting the cap back on her drink. "I'm sure we'll see each other around."

Adjusting her things on her shoulder, Annabelle flashed the other a grin and then a wink. "I'll see you around, Anabel. I'll make sure of it." The long haired Annabelle waved before she darted off, feeling a lot better about today. Now she'd met the person she'd been tracking via DS for a while and she could rest a lot easier. Maybe Lila would be just as happy. She'd have to talk to her about it.
