Mistral prided herself in being very good at following up on messages. Mont Blanc's letter had caught her at an awkward moment - halfway through the final boss fight of the latest Dragon Age DLC - but she'd been sure to reply as quickly as she could and, through the painstaking process of sending post-it notes back and forth, coordinate a meeting.

She had to admit she was impressed. Mont Blanc was the first person she'd heard of to actually bother with the blueprints - most people seemed to just beg the already-completed tech off her or one of her friends. So what if he'd made zero progress on them since obtaining them? She was happy to share her hard-won wisdom... and not everyone could be so lucky as she was with regards to past lives. Asimov had been a child genius, and Mistral was fortunate to have even a fraction of her smarts.

At ten past ten, she settled herself on a park bench, a paperback novel open in her lap. Mendel settled across her feet, tongue lolling. Mont Blanc hadn't agreed to meet her for another twenty minutes, but she liked to be punctual. It was better to arrive early than to rush, in her opinion.

Hope this works!

The meet-up had taken a little longer than he'd wanted - between the youma train, among other things - but finally, here he was, ready to finally do something about the blueprints that had been lingering in his ring since he'd finally ventured to power up again. Now that he'd actually heard what the upgrade did, what the blueprints were for, he was especially excited for this meeting.

And maybe a little quietly nervous to meet the assuredly brilliant mind behind them. It was a bit like staring at a book for months and suddenly coming across the author.

Mont Blonc, now a squire, like to be punctual, hated it when people were left waiting for him since they assuredly had better things to do with their time - but by the time he arrived, there was already decidedly someone there. "Oh, " he gasped, hurrying his pace a little to stand before the park bench, his face terribly flushed already as he dipped his head to her. "H-hello... Miss Mistral?" It was safe to assume, probably, but his tone was forever tentative rather than assured. "I haven't kept you waiting, have I?"

Mistral stood with the other squire's approach, setting her book aside and sending her dog scrambling. He retreated under the bench, watching Mont Blanc with his head cocked to the side, mismatched eyes wide. "Just Mistral is fine," she said, extending a businesslike hand to him. She could live with people thinking she was a witch, but she certainly didn't want to to be addressed like a kindergarten teacher. There was a line and she had to draw it.

"Mont Blanc, I presume?" she asked, fixing him with a tight-lipped but friendly smile. "Not long. I brought a book - you're actually early, I'm just earlier." Punctuality became a habit when you had difficulty getting places, as Mistral did. She couldn't count on hustling and making up the time, so she just had to plan around it.

"I hear you're having some trouble with my blueprint," she said, smoothing out the front of her tunic. "I would offer to give you the preassembled upgrade outright, but as you're the first person I've met who's actually tried to build it themself, I'd like to see where this goes. Have you fabricated any of the parts?"

Mont Blonc's eyes followed the dog for a moment, warmly, and he had to resist the old urge just to drop to his knees and shuffle over to extend a hand in greeting for the canine to sniff. Official business and all that. - but what a lovely dog it was. Look at those eyes!

"Mistral, my apologies, " he amended with a light bob of his head, taking her hand in his to shake it. His hand was soft and tentative, but his handshake itself was not weak or clammy. He was a nervous man, true, but he knew how to give a good handshake when the time called for it. "Y-you presume correct - it's a pleasure to meet you, " he greeted warmly, even if he would eternally be blushing and stuttering here and there as he did it.

(It never got easier.)

"I-I am, " he admitted sheepishly with a soft peal of laughter, fidgeting with his ring as though out of habit. Fidgeting in general was something of his habit, really. "I've been, uh, examining it for a long time, but... I mean, I can practically see it when I close my eyes by now, " he joked in that light way, "B-but I'm sort of hopeless at, uh... building it. Technology's never really been my strong point, and, uh, I - I - I wasn't totally sure what materials to... "

He blushed, again. "That's probably not as, um, exciting as you were hoping. I'm sorry."

Mistral nodded - even a failed attempt made for useful data. If Mont Blanc hadn't been able to sort out what supplies he needed to construct the ring upgrade, then maybe she hadn't been clear enough and the blueprints needed revision. As she'd learned in her computer science classes, all programs benefited from end-user testing. "No, no," she assured him. "That's very helpful information. Thank you for trying, anyway."

"It's a bit late at night to hit up a hardware store," she said, considering their options. "But I have plenty of spares in my workshop. Are you up for a quick run to Mercury? No hard feelings if you're not. My wonders has... a bit of a reputation."

Mont Blanc hadn't been there, but she half expected him to have heard about it anyway. Seemed everyone was eager to flap their lips. "It's not dangerous," she assured him. "Anymore. Mostly."

Helpful? He didn't see how, but he did like being helpful; how uselessness was helpful, he had not an idea, but if she said so then he was happy. Mont Blonc smiled at that, feeling gratified, whether or not he should.

Then, his eyes widened in visible surprise, and perhaps a measure of delight. "Mercury? - you'd take me to Mercury?" He'd only just sort of gotten the hang of getting himself to Saturn, after all. He hadn't really given much thought to going to any other 'main' planets.

"Reputation?" he echoed curiously, tilting his head to a side. Then waved it off, cracking a sort of weak smile. "You know what, sorry, you - tell me later perhaps. If you want to, I mean. But yes. Yes, I am up for it." Probably. Mostly. - he'd be okay, right?

It was rare to meet someone who didn't regard her as something of a bogeyman, but also refreshing. Mistral smiled lightly. "Later," she agreed, putting a hand around Mendel's collar. She extended the other to Mont Blanc.

"Shall we go?" she asked.
