Meaning of (name): is pronounced AR-den. It is of Latin origin, and the meaning of Arden is "great forest". Literary: the Forest of Arden in Shakespeare's "As You Like It" was a magically beautiful place. He believes they are corrupting force against one's nature. He says what he thinks and does things according to his own plan. He's very focused and quiet while alone. He's a naturalist. He believes wholly in the earth and it's nutrients. He is very spiritual in nature. When he cares to form an actual bond, it is strong almost to the point of forsaking his beliefs. Sometimes, because he's so intune with nature (or in thoughts), he has the tendency to trip over "problems" or other soquili. As time goes on, he's come to find out that he desires companionship of his friends/family. He realizes that the want for family and companionship is as natural as nature. Though civlization is corrupting of the natural man, absence of corresponding with others depletes your humanity. Humanity is worth more than anything. Though he still disconnects emotionally, the gap is not as large anymore. Quirks/Character Traits: ✶ Like being alone, enjoys silence and despises "civilization" ✶ Is a healer, very good with herbs and remedies ✶ Owes a debt to Avada Kedavra as long as he lives. Backstory: Not much is known of his birth or his parents, however he has a hidden past. A few years ago, when Bedford found Acacia and brought her to Arden, Arden could not heal her. Nature was failing him, and he felt lost when everything he did to help her did not bring her around. She stayed ill until he was driven almost to desperation. Secretly, he left in the dead of the night, leaving Acacia with Bedford (neither of which he knew before). He sought out AV, a rumoured priest of the Kawani lands--the only way of saving her though it was against nature to do so. He pushed his qualms behind him in order to save a life--surely such a grievous fault could be forgiven in an effort to save someone? AV gave him something to help Acacia to recover--a blanket and herbs. However, he paid a heavy price that he keeps secret. He is at the beck and call of AV for the rest of his life to supply him with help or herbs as needed. No questions to be asked. Little is known about this to anyone. He mentioned "selling his soul" in passing to Zarita who he has warned against it. For a long time, Arden has been left in peace. But now...it is rumoured that AV has returned and he will once again be calling on his faithful servant.

Bonus stat questions for January have been opened!
Bedford and Arden bonded together as guardians to take care of Acacia. Arden who was not familiar with common practices of other soquili often gave awkward advice. Having not dealt with others often, he did a fairly bad job of giving her advice in life/love rather than strictly theoretical absolutes.
Being a loner, he has given Acacia awful advice (several times) which lead to a bad decision. His first error was not telling Acacia of the rumours that she might have a sister alive, the other offense is that he told her to make sure she loved Banzai before she settled down. She took his advice foolishly in an attempt to verify what she already knew, and ended up pregnant by another stallion as a result. Arden and Acacia are currently not on speaking terms. Arden, lonely, with no visits from Acacia who he raised finds himself in a fateful storm where he meets Nokomis.
Nokomis and Arden fall together and as a result end up having foals together. During her pregnancy, Nokomis is attacked by a skinwalker while protecting a foal. Luckily, none of the unborn foals were harmed--however, in a chain reaction while Arden is out gathering and Nokomis is a few feet away after the birth of the foals, one of their baskets is stolen by another skinwalker.
Arden and Nokomis are striken with horror over the loss of their basket. Though they look for it, they cannot find it. Arden feels as if he's being punished for the sins he's committed against nature by helping AV.
Ultimately, this led Arden and Nokomis to dissolve their relationship.
It was the fire that lead Acacia to make amends with Arden |

Personality: Soothing--Acacia is best described as soothing. Her whole history is wracked with loss and pain, but there is a faint glimmer of hope. Someone had saved her, and someone she loved--her last bit of family--might still be alive. It is that hope that shines through her, that she shares with others.
Oftentimes, she finds herself lost in rememberance of her past and finds herself walking to better help her think. The whole goal of her life is to pay forward the kindness that saved her and that she feels she can never fully repay.
She's almost naive in nature. Her faith in others, inspired by the one who saved her, is almost absolute to a fault. She can be easily deceived and taken advantage of. She wishes to see the best in everyone, because of that she is vulnerable to deception. Because she is pure of heart, and because most of her former dealings were with good soquili she doesn't realize that putting her trust absolutely in a stranger could be dangerous.
Quirks/Character Traits:
✶ Loves flowers, early mornings, and goats

✶ After the swamp fiasco, she hates snakes.
Backstory:
Afzelia and Alder knew each other from the time they left their baskets. It was an easy and happy life that lead up to agreeing that they could never live without each other. It wasn’t long before the first baskets arrived, or well…the first basket.
After a long and difficult labor, only one basket ever opened and they welcomed their first and only child, a son—Araucaria. He was the light of their life, and afraid to try again they let him carry all their hopes, admirations and dreams. It was too much for Araucaria who deemed himself “first to fail”.
He left shortly after his siblings were born, identical twins---Acacia and her brother Aspen. The two were inseparable, they did everything together and their thoughts were always perfectly in sync.
It wasn’t long before Afzelia and her Alder were blessed once again with baskets, three this time. When the baskets opened, it revealed two more sons and another daughter. It was three days later before they had finally decided on names. They would announce them when the dawn broke. Laying down to rest that night, that was when the fire broke out.
But neither Afzelia, Alder, Aspen, or the youngest brothers opened their eyes again.
This was the night, that both daughters were fated to have their lives changed forever. Both thinking they were the only survivors of the fire.
When Acacia woke up, the forest was ablaze. The very heavens seemed to have been composed of black smoke. Her lungs were filled with the smell of burning trees…and burning flesh. She could hear the screams of her family piercing the night.
She struggled to find her way through the fire, the will to live was still strong in her. She had seen her twin brother and two younger brothers fall, she had seen her family lay motionless…At first, she struggled to bring them with her, but they did not move…they did not breathe, and as the flames licked at her and singed her hide and theirs--they did not scream. They could not feel, they were gone.
Choking, she ran…she had to find her sister…the only one who was left, she had to save her. She ran for hours. Her lungs were bursting for air, filled with what felt like flames itself until she fell. Through her hazy vision she could see him. Gently she felt him lift her, she tried to speak…but she passed out.

She came to the next day, her head was pounding and she was coughing. Her body felt bruised and singed as she tried to remember everything that happened. It hit her as if it was happening for the first time all over again, her family was dead…only her sister was missing. Her sister…she could be dead or lost forever, her baby sister…
But she couldn’t’ think about that, she needed to think of something good. She was alive and there was hope. Someone…someone had saved her, she tried to remember as best she could, but it was nothing but vapour- only faint thoughts that might be memories. He had saved her, and she did not know who he was.
She stumbled to her feet and stretched a little. She began walking…she had to find her sister, and him…
She kept walking.

The Continuing Story...
Eventually she was found dehydrated and sickly by Arden and Bedford. The two strangers helped heal her. Ever since then, she has felt close to them as if they were part of her family that was gone, like brothers to her.

One day she meets a male--Banzai and they become good friends. She comes running back to him when she gets in an argument with Arden. Arden had heard rumours that her sister might be alive--but never told her since there was no proof. She left, angry with him.
She and Banzai go to the swamps where her sister was rumoured to be sighted and meet the spider-eyed Boitata. He says he'll help them and leads them in. Acacia is almost compelled to listen. Finally, Boitata leaves them in the swamp when she snaps out of it (his son does have her sister though he doesn't know that. She was kidnapped).
Acacia and Banzai make it out and admit they have feelings for each other and that he was the stallion who saved her all those years ago--something it took awhile to realize for him--only to be interrupted by a fling from Banzai's past showing up with foals (happened before he ever met Acacia again.)
She tells him she needs a little time and goes back to Arden and Bedford to talk. Arden says to make sure she loves him before she's settled--that she's never given anyone else a chance. Bedford says not to let him go if she loves him. She foolishly listens to Arden.
She has an encounter with a stallion named Zaitus who's recovering from his lovemate having kids. After a brief interlude, she winds up pregnant realizing it was a mistake. She goes to Banzai to tell him she loves him and knowing he won't accept her--but he tells her it doesn't matter that he loves her and they will raise the foals together.
A few months later Itzel, Azland, and Zatarra are born.
Her relationship with Arden remains in disrepair until the fire. |

Personality: Born and abandoned by her parents as something "hideous", at some point she came into contact with the Blood Moon Carnivale. Little is known of that occurrence. Originally, she was rather bitter and angry. She could not help what she was born as, and she hated being called a monster because of it. She was prone to angry outbursts because of unresolved anger. She was quite envious of other horses having hair and being able to freely interact with others. Nessie tends to be moody still, and is prone to depression and lethargy. She tends to go deeper in the water the more these feelings weigh her down. She is constantly seeking to disprove that she is a monster, which is quite difficult as she has not faced her own demons fully yet. She tries to keep away from others, and uses the "mystery" of Loch Ness to assist with it. Sometimes, a part of her hungers to be the monster and the terrorizer. After all, it preserves the quiet that she longs for. But it's more than that, she wants to let the monster out. She's a lot more amiable now that L'inglesou is in her life. As long as one is open-minded, she will remain so too. The monster seems to be under control and she has come to accept that she doesn't have to choose--just be merely be herself. Neither monster or purely good. She can swim the line and figure out what is best for the moment. Quirks/Character Traits: ✶ Is very fond of her quiet life with L'inglesou ✶ She hates liars or anyone who dances around the truth/who is obnoxious. ✶ She hates intruders, but likes visitors (so it depends on how you act). ✶ Has a special fondness for clams Backstory: Nessie was born in the Lochs. She was abandoned at birth by her parents because of her "freakish" appearance. Soon, she became quite lonely and bitter. She learned that she could trust no one and that being by herself was the best solution. She has never had friends, romance or even family. Her whole life revolves around her home and the secrecy she keeps to stop others from making a joke of her. There have been few attempts to befriend her, and there have been none attempted out of kindness or compassion. The only one that has ever held any caring for her is her familiar, Hannibal. He is a turtle, but more so, a monster of misery. He inflicts his weary and insatiably dreary attitude on her. By his teaching, she raged and roared into the night. It wasn't long before people fled or searched for her, the monster in the lake. Thus the legend of Loch Ness was born. Faint recollections of being captured by The Ringmaster have come to light in recent years like some scabbed over memory.. She doesn't know what it means--yet. Was The Ringmaster the one that made her this way? Or was the Ringmaster interested because she was this way to begin with?

The Continuing Story...
Nessie has learned to deal with her issues of whether she is a monster or not. She has come to the conclusion that she cannot exist under any label or word, she is Nessie. She is not good, and she is not bad--but is rather a creature who does good things and who does bad things.
She has found love with L'inglesou and is happier than ever. How long can it last though, as she starts to remember her past in the Blood Moon Carnival. |
