Arden was enjoying the warmth of the sun filtering through the canopy of the forest ceiling onto his back. Today, he was relaxing rather than just keeping busy. It was refreshing to relax, but also a bit disconcerting. He was use to be being busy all the time, so not being busy...was kind of hard. Standing there, he shut his eyes. It was nice though. The sun shining down...nowhere to be, nowhere to go. Everything was planted, the crops were okay. He could enjoy nature in all it's glory today. That was the wonderful part of these days, to refresh and recharge--to become completely one with nature again.

Etain stepped delicately from the edge of the tree line, her pale green eyes scanning the small clearing. She didn't think that there was anything to be afraid of this close to her own woods, but her father had raised her to be cautious mare. She had to many depending on her to be reckless in anyway.
Truth was, she'd never would have wander even this far if it weren't for the fact that Raposa, one of three vixen that resided in her woods, was so beside herself with fret about her young male kit that had wandered off that she'd started to shed to the point where bald patches were showing, and had begged Etain to go find him. Of course the young mare had agreed, she had to! Poor vixen was looking like she had mange, and the worry was near killing her.
So now Etain was here, at least a mile from her woods, and ready to cross this clearing. She was sure the kit had come this way, she'd tracked him right up to this spot. Now..were the devil was he? Had he crossed the meadow?

Arden opened his eyes and walked, his slow measured gait taking him to the edge of the forest. For a moment, he paused, letting the sun shine on him once more before he would step out into the clearing and enjoy it's full warmth.
Breathing deeply, he stepped into the meadow. The lush grass was high around him, and he could feel it sway in the breeze. That fresh, sweet breeze would carry these seeds and plant more grass. The world would populate with it, and once this grass was gone there would be multitudes more to overtake it and feed the next generations.
Leaning down, he nibbled on the sweet grass. It was as tasty as it was beautiful. He grazed as he took a few steps forward. The sun was shining down on him in it's full glory, the warmth spreading throughout his entire being.

Etain had just started across the meadow, the color of the grass very close to her own, making her almost invisible in the tall grass, when she spotted the stallion. She stopped dead, one hoof raised above the ground, her ears swiveling forward, nostrils flaring to catch his scent.
The young mare wasn't sure what she should do, and if she hadn't stopped in that very moment and been looking right at the male, she'd not have seen the splash of red fluff that could only be the kit's tail, it was laying along the grass near his hoof, not moving. Cold dread filled her heart and she cried out as she trotted forward.
" Oh please, don't move! You'll step on him! Please just hold still!" Etain felt like time had stopped and she was never gonna reach them both on time.

Arden froze as he heard a voice pleading with him not to. He had just about lifted his hoof to step forward, but he stopped. Looking across the meadow he saw a mare running at him, very similiar in colour to the grass and one of his own kind.
He didn't move, he hadn't heard the rest of her message other than that. What did she see that made her look so anxious?
"I'm sorry, did I do something wrong?" He looked at her quizzically.

Etain reached the stallion and shook her head at his question, her mane flying around her as she bent her neck to softly wuffle the ball of red fur hidden in the grass.
" No, no...you didn't...its just you almost stepped on him." Her voice was soft and gentle, but her attention was solely on the kit laying in a little ball unmoving.
" Come on little guy," she whispered to him, nosing him gently," open those green eyes for me. You're mama is worried sick over you, she sent me to find you."
The tuff of red fur that might have been a baby fox didn't move, not so much as an ear twitch.

Arden looked down as she said that, seeing the small little body there. "Is he okay?" He tilted his head as she tried to summon him, feeling his concern rising.
"What do you need me to do? I have some herbs, maybe?" He offered.

Etain lifted doe soft green eyes up at him, innocence shining in them as she gave him a heart breaking, sweet, hopeful expression, " Do you? Can you help him? His mama is so worried."
A lock of her mane fell forward to cover her eyes, she flicked it out of her way with a flick of her ears, a move that was unconscious, like a habit.

Arden leaned down gently, nudging the foal for a moment. Reaching into his pack, he pulled out a few leaves which he crushed gently. His brow was furrowed, "He has a fever. These will help it break."
He sweeped one across his brow and chewed another into a mushy based before trying to give it to the foal. "Now, we just...wait."
