Light filtered through the leaves of the trees and specks of sunlight played on the forest floor. The sun had only been out a few hours, but the stallion that traversed the well worn path had been up since before dawn. As he reached a little clearing amidst the tall oaks, Kolli took a moment to rest. He had been traveling since he left him, taking only small breaks to rest and to eat. His mother had never told him how far he might have to go to find the mare. Nor had she ever really provided much information. No, he was on his own out here. No doubt she'd likely be furious when he returned, but he had to hope that she would understand. Mainly Kolli was curious. Curious what kind of mare could sell her basket for something that could never really happen. He also wondered how she could have believed such nonsense in the first place. Bringing back the dead. He snorted at the thought of it. Once someone was gone they were just that. Gone. There wasn't any bringing them back no matter how hard you tried. With a heavy sigh, the stallion forced himself to move forward once more. Once the sun started to set, he would seek shelter for the evening. Until then, he would keep on moving. There had to be some lead to finding her. Some way of finding out where she might be or who she was.

Acacia walked. She wasn't even sure of where she was or where she was going really. How could she have been so stupid? What had ever made her listen to Arden after the last time? Why did his words make such perfect sense until they simply didn't anymore? How could she have ever trusted him again? She could feel the white hot anger of his omissions swelling up in her. They were lies really, ommissions was too kind of a word. What had made him think he had any right to withhold the truth from her? She was not a foal! But still, she has listened to him again. How foolish was that? There was some childish compulsion to trust in the one who had saved her and raised her. But, he never cared for her like Bedford did. Bedford was more the image of her father, though he could hardly been past foal himself. He was constant and kind. He was truthful.

As the sun made its way higher into the sky, Kolli began to feel weary. The distance he had traveled over the past few days was beginning to take its toll on him. Oh how he cursed his bare back. Why couldn't he have wings like his mother? Now wouldn't that be something. He could get off his pathetic limbs and take to the sky. Imagine the progress he could make! The amount of distance he could cover! And it would take far less time. Ah how he wished!
Stumbling over a tree branch suddenly, the stallion literally came crashing back down to earth. Carefully, Kolli picked himself back up and shook the dirt out of his coat, sending dust and leaves into the air. Well, so much for that thought. As much as he might wish that he had wings, the harsh reality was that he did not have them and he never would. Pitty.
Noting the minor scrapes and soon to be bruises, he made his way over to a patch of grass and began to graze for a few moments. Maybe he didn't have any wings, but this grass was pretty tasty, and he had learned to appreciate the small things in life. Though sometimes there were larger things that shouldn't go unnoticed yet seem to slip right past.

Acacia was taken back by the sudden arrival of a stallion. He wasn't paying her any attention at all, and she was only about three feet away. She'd stopped graze and rest.
He had to see her right? She didn't exactly blend in lying there in the sweet grass. Was he just that unobservant? She wanted to move, see where she could go...but she really didn't want to alert him...what if he wasn't good?
Staring at him with wide eyes, she waited to see what he would do.

Deep in thought, the stallion continued to graze silently. He'd begun to rethink his mission. Maybe it wasn't worth tracking down his biological mother after all. I mean, what had she ever done for him? She'd done nothing for him. Nothing at all. Yet, here he was, trying to chase down someone who likely wanted nothing to do with him. Well now, wasn't that just pathetic. Disgusted with himself, the stallion lost his appetite and stopped grazing. It was only then that he noticed the mare only feet from him.
How long had she been there? Could he really have been that oblivious to her presence? And why hadn't she said anything to him? Kolli's thoughts were chaotic, unwilling to settle down. Slowly, one by one, the stallion calmed his mind, letting go of the unnecessary words bogging his mind down. He needed his wits about him, this could be the perfect opportunity to try to find a lead on his mother. He couldn't afford to become distracted.
"Why hello there." He smiled at the mare. "Rather nice day isn't it?" When in doubt, be polite.

For a moment, Acacia's heart thrummed like it was going to escape her trust. But his words were easy and kind enough. She stood up slowly before she answered, "Yes, quite a lovely day. Very nice for a short little walk."
Good, let him think she hadn't walked far. The truth was she had no idea at all where she was at. Again. She really needed to stop doing that. It was getting to be old. "What brings you out?"

Kolli regarded the mare with interest. She seemed nice enough, and she hadn't spooked and run at the first sight of him, things seemed to be going well. Then again he supposed that around these parts no one really knew of his mother, that would be very helpful indeed.
"Ah well, you know." He started off. "Just the usual. Out on a daring adventure of magic and mystery, searching for a damsel in distress to save." He teased the mare. Okay, perhaps it was a bit silly but the mare seemed so out of place he wanted to relax her and put her at ease. "No, but really, I'm trying to find my mother." He told her seriously. "You're not my mother are you?" He asked her rather hopefully but without expecting a yes.

Acacia was rather taken back, "No. I'm not anyone's mother," she felt her cheeks grow hot. "No one's mother yet."
She tried to brush away the feeling. "You don't know who you're mother is?" How sad really. Who had raised him? Had he been alone?

Yet? That was a rather odd statement. Kolli supposed the mare had her own reasons for what she said. Perhaps she wanted children, perhaps she was expecting them. Either way it was none of his business. Right now all he needed from her was any information pertaining to his own biological mother.
"Well of course I know who my mother is." He told the mare. "She raised me since she was given my basket. It's my biological mother who I'm searching for. She sold my basket before I was even born." Kolli spoke calmly, as if it didn't bother him at all. Mostly it didn't, but, there was that tiny part of him that had felt abandoned when he had heard the story of his birth. None of it mattered though. He was simply curious to find the mare who had given him up. No matter what that might bring. "I'm trying to track her down, but I'm afraid it's impossible."

"Sold you?" Acacia couldn't keep the horror or questioning out of her voice. She was blushing. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have..."
But something else was itching at her mind. Sold him...sold him for something. She'd heard something about this somewhere. Someone desperate, someone...needing something. I had been a hushed conversation, barely overheard.
Something about death, about...Voodoo. She found the word slipping from her mouth unheeded in a soft murmurer, "Voodoo..."

Kolli found himself feeling amused at the tone of horror in the mare's voice. Sure it did sound cruel and horrible, but Kolli had lived a good life. His mother had been the best that he could ask for, even with her... moments. He had had a good life as a foal and hadn't ever known about his other mother until he was older.
The stallion was about to make a joke when he caught her whisper. "What do you know about voodoo?" He snarled, losing control for a split second. As much as he told himself the pact of his birth didn't matter, he supposed that deep down it did. Not to mention he didn't trust the stuff much, nor should anyone like this mare be practicing it. If there was one thing he had learned from both of his mothers, you don't mess with Voodoo.

Acacia jumped back with a loud squeak. "I...I don't remember. Just...someone whispered about him to me once. Said he was...very bad. And.." She knitted together her brows to try to think. "That he had done a very bad thing once..."

Immediately Kolli relaxed. He knew that the mare hadn't meant to say anything to upset him, and she herself wasn't in any way involved with the stuff. "I er, I apologize. I didn't mean to frighten you, it's just that Voodoo can be a really touchy subject for me. It is also very dangerous." He hoped that he was able to amend the situation. There really was no need for the mare to be frightened and he hadn't meant to do so.
"Do you know how I can find this stallion?" He asked the mare. Right now, this was the only information he had found that might be useful in finding his biological mother. Kolli would take what he could get. "Who whispered of him to you? Perhaps I could talk to them?" The stallion was smiling again, trying to be friendly to soothe the mare's nerves. He only hoped he hadn't frightened her out of telling him anything. He'd hate to have to really force the information out.

Acacia was shaking slightly, "My--someone I knew once." She could feel her face darken. Of course, it was Arden. She didn't want to speak about him or--well anything. This current predicament was partially the fault of his bad advice. But here he was resurfacing again and again in his mind.
But memories pulled at her mind, "I think..he knew Voodoo once." She paused delicately, "And some time ago, he told me he'd found someone who'd dealt with Voodoo too. He didn't explain it, but he said she was driven to it. He'd merely provided her answers. He...never spoke of it with me besides that. I think...maybe. He was ashamed."

The stallion was feeling confused until it dawned on him. She wasn't referencing Voodoo in general, she was talking about a specific someone. Someone who was named Voodoo. Well, it was definitely a lead in a direction that he could follow. Kolli was about to thank her and send her on her way when he caught the last bit of what the mare said. A she huh? Perhaps this mare could be his mother? Or maybe she would know her. Or, he was following a dead end and his journey was simply a waste of time. Kolli tossed his head in an attempt to rid himself of the negative thoughts.
"Could you point me in the direction of this stallion" He asked the mare kindly, afraid he might upset her again. "I'd very much appreciate it if you could."
