Civilian Description ▼
Eyes: Keeps his golden Velencian eye color. Typically very excitable, with warm and friendly eyes, but is currently In a Mood and has a narrower, more jaded expression. Hair: Darker than his Velencian hair, straight black, with shorter bangs framing his face. The rest is about chin-length, shaved sides. Typically worn up. Face: Despite common belief that all Vanguard are baby, Fys does not have baby-face. Has a long, straight nose, defined jawlines, sculpted brows, and full lips. Also has to shave regularly. Skin Tone: He went with a mid-bronze sort of look. Looks like he was probably never pale, but still gets a little color from outside. Body Type: Due to standard training regimen, he is far from scrawny, but Fys consistently feels like he is shorter and weaker than should be “normal.” He is wiry muscle and somewhat lanky-looking arms, despite standing at a comparatively short 5’5”. Clothes: Has no appreciation for fashion. Fysarius wears a t-shirt (which may or may not be graphic, and may or may not have a design like stripes or embroidery) and pants. Sometimes tight yoga pants, sometimes cargo pants. Doesn’t like jeans. Does kind of shamefully really like leather. Doesn’t wear it. Just kind of gently caresses it when he sees it in a store.
Velencian Name ▼ Fysarius Stage ▼ Corporal Challenge ▼ So wasteful. Challenge 2 ▼ This is a trash planet, anyway.
Uniform Style ▼ Bodysuit activewear
Base Color -- THISTLE Primary Accent Color -- CHARTREUSE Secondary Accent Color -- EVERGREEN Accessories -- Magnetic wiring has been threaded into his uniform along his waist and hips and down his arms to control the effect his weapon has on him. Also has a pair of goggles that display a visible alert to energy signatures nearby.
Appearance -- Skin -- SEAFOAM with no noticeable blemishes or freckling. He does have a small assortment of training scars in various locations. Typically very thin, wouldn’t be visible unless someone knew they were there and was looking for them. Hair -- DARK FOREST with shaved sides. Keeps it around chin-length, but it is almost always tightly pulled back into a bun. Might have some escapee flyaways or scraggly bangs. Eyes -- GOLDEN with a cat-slit pupil.
Weapon ▼
Cadet Weapon -- A black metallic wristband with a chartreuse energy crystal inlaid in the center. It is otherwise nondescript. The wristband shoots out an energy thread that is about a foot long and remains on the field for ten seconds. The thread has a magnetic effect that draws things to stick to it (at opposing player’s discretion, such as they could draw in small debris from nearby or entangle part of a limb). A thread can be deployed once every thirty seconds.
Corporal Weapon -- A black metallic bracer with spider themed etchings. A chartreuse energy crystal is inlaid in the center. The bracer shoots out a small volley (five) of energy threads each about a foot long that remain on the field for ten seconds. The threads have a magnetic effect that draws things to stick to it (at opposing player’s discretion, such as they could draw in small debris from nearby or entangle part of a limb or pull toward each other). If they make contact with a person, the threads will deliver a static shock (the equivalent of scooting around in your socks on carpet and then touching someone). The threads can be deployed once every thirty seconds.
Commander Weapon -- A metallic black glove long enough to extend past his elbow, with a chartreuse energy crystal inlaid at the back of his hand. The glove deploys an energy net that is three feet by three feet in size. It can be shot up to ten feet. The netting is capable of trapping one person, but may entangle up to two if characters are standing close to each other. The net remains on the field for ten seconds, and if it comes into contact with a character, it delivers an aggressive shock (full damage up to player discretion, but should be at very least distractingly painful). It takes the glove forty-five seconds to recharge a shot.
Fav. Food ▼ Watermelon Hated Food ▼ He’s not interested in the vast majority of Earth food.
Hobbies ▼
Entomology: Fys’ one true passion that despite not being a “typical” area of study on Velencya, he’s always been inexplicably drawn to. He likes bugs. He likes their diversity, likes each species’ unique patterning, likes how they are duty-driven and capable of working together and are definitely not bogged down by pesky emotions. There wasn’t a huge variety of insects on Velencya, but he’s always had a personal ambition of a gene splicing project to promote pollination efficiency. It just seems like there’s probably diminishing returns on the amount of time spent on such a project, versus the actual amount of benefit Velencya would get out of it… But there are so many strange, new, unique, and undiscovered species on Earth! And they’re everywhere. Likes to collect them. Swears it’s for study purposes, and it’s very regrettable that their life spans are usually so short…
Botany: Entomology is his passion, but Fysarius’ actually useful area of study is botany. He is invested in the continued progress of more abundant and quality harvest on Velencya through genome editing, made possible by collection of off-world specimens with different genetic makeup. His interest in joining the Vanguard was specifically to facilitate the collection of off-world species to promote genetic diversity in their crops, and that seems… of extremely minimal importance at the moment, given he can’t communicate with home at all. He’s taken to study how Earth manages such practices, and given their success with corn, it doesn’t seem like an entirely dead end? Fys can frequently be found in the university greenhouses, even going so far as to sleep on the ground there, on occasion.
Oceanography: Everyone is going on about how great Earth is, and how they’re getting into the culture, cuisine, and fashion. Fysarius does not like Earth. He does not want to get engrossed in anything here, because this is not his home, and it hardly deserves the attention the cosmos is giving it. But it’s hard to deny the availability of certain unique opportunities, and it seems wasteful to squander the potential for new study… Oceanography is Fys’ new “Earth hobby,” something he definitely is less capable of doing on Velencya due to the lack of, well, ocean. And there is such an amazing diversity of life, sans Fys’ least favorite organism: humans. Limited by the resources available to DCU, and they seem to do most “practice” studies at the reservoir. He finds this an acceptable place to learn aquatic identification and proper collection and study tactics.
Mixed Martial Arts: Fysarius does not enjoy combat. He is slight of stature and short of build and consistently feels as if he is physically weaker and slower than most other cadets. He is quite fit from being with the Vanguard, but physical training is his least favorite thing because of how minimal it seems like his progress is. But it is a necessary evil, and he keeps up with this variety of training only because it is required. More specifically, he has been pressured to engage in Earth martial arts with his best friend and confidante. He still does not prefer the activity, but he will do nearly anything to make Ny happy, and she is very engaged in the physical aspect of their training. He would never abandon her to have some human stranger for a sparring partner. He does his best to be someone Ny can at least properly train with.
Virtues ▼
Passionate: Fysarius feels strongly, and despite his culture, he is not ashamed of this. He adores his friends and family, loves the topics that please him, and has a strong aversion to what he dislikes. How could it be bad for him to be excited about his interests? To him it just seems like that’s how you know you have someone working on what they were born to be working on. He can keep it contained, but how good is that for his mental stability and well-being? Maybe it is “distracting” to Velencians unaccustomed to dealing with him, but on the plus side, no one is ever confused about where they stand with him. When he enjoys someone’s company, it’s obvious. When he doesn’t… still pretty obvious. Completely gives all of himself to what makes him happy and excited, and doesn’t waste time and effort on other things.
Energetic: Fysarius is not one to be slowed down when he is after something, and he doesn't typically rely on "decompressing" time in order to stay on task. He has ceaseless energy and tires rarely in both the physical and mental sense of the word. He likes activity! He likes challenge! He is typically eager and forthright and very excited to engage in his tasks and loves both to "complete" assignments and to get snared down various rabbit holes of research and information. He is excitable and is easy to put in a good mood. Recent events have put a dampener on a usually good-tempered boy, but he is ever-willing to continue to try even if things aren't working out so well.
Intellectual: Probably not surprising, considering Velencya's values, but Fysarius does actually enjoy studying and learning and is able to retain most information he reads or hears. He's really chattery and bubbly with his favorite topics. Likes to share knowledge and enjoys when others have something interesting to say to him, as well. It can be difficult for someone else to get a word in at first, but as long as they say something engaging, Fys is happy to listen!
Diligent: Has a lot of energy that seems like it would lend itself to making him easily distracted, but Fysarius is actually the exact opposite. He hyper-focuses. If it is a task he is excited about, then great! Something enjoyable for him to spend his time on, what's not to like about that? If it's an assignment or a chore that he is less enthused about, then the best thing to do is to get it over with as quickly as possible so it can stop being a backdrop in his thoughts. Fys is not a procrastinator, usually, and because he finds it difficult to focus many places at once, he tends to commit even to unenjoyable activities if they have to be done. Works best alone because it is, again, difficult for him to focus on multiple people or things, but he is happy for an extra pair of hands if someone wants to be interested in something alongside him.
Flaws ▼
Single-Minded: Fys’ passions and focus often leave him in such a way that he is not willing to engage with things outside of what he is currently doing. If he’s playing with plants, that is what he wants to be working on until he is tired of working. If he is with his friends, he wants to be with his friends and not be distracted by other whims. This can lead him to forget or neglect appointments, and it has always had a negative impact on his social relationships by making it seem like he is only interested in what he is doing and doesn’t much care for the well-being or opinions of his friends and allies.
Stubborn: Fysarius is a man of logic, and he can be reasoned with with facts and evidence, but when there is no information to go on (or maybe information is mostly irrelevant to the topic), he is persistent in the way he handles things, even if it doesn't seem to work. He can be very adamant that things need to be put away a certain way or that there's a particular brand of soap that is better than others. He doesn't like to lose or be wrong and can push at these things to the point of aggravation on everyone's part. Absolutely does not admit when he has done something incorrectly. You just don't see his genius, is all.
Crass: Fysarius can be… unrefined. He had very doting parents who were very gung-ho about their one and only precious bean being comfortable and happy, and did not instill their society’s beliefs in restraint and etiquette. As long as he was not being a burden on Velencya, he could do whatever he wanted. They tease him that they wish he’d been dumb and lazy so it would’ve been more of a priority to focus on politeness, but he’s smart and hardworking, so they decided not to complain about his mouth. Turns out he’d rather put all his energy into his studies and fun activities than mincing words and protecting feelings. He’s not mean, but he says what he feels, and it can definitely be insulting.
Cynical: Despite being generally good-natured, Fysarius is not especially optimistic. He has low expectations of others' abilities and intentions, and he is aware that "trying his hardest" and "doing his best" are not always going to guarantee positive outcomes. Also tends to believe that most other people are not trying their hardest/doing their best, so there's a lot of room for error when trying to judge how a situation involving multiple parties is going to unfold... Really probably better to not waste time judging, honestly. Expects he'll have to pick up every else's slack (because someone has to, and he has the energy for it) and is ready to complain about it.
