”Oh? What’s this?” Kitty stalked across the overgrown grassy path, toward the green-skinned boy he’d spotted amidst the trees. He’d fancied a nice wooded stroll in the twilight, and he’d figured there was a good chance of a youma coming out to play if it sensed a senshi signature. No such luck there, but he was intrigued enough by what he did find.

Kitty couldn’t say for sure, being that he’d never met one in person, but the pointed ears, pastel skin, and grayish bodysuit uniform matched the secondhand information of the Vanguard he’d heard down the grapevine. There was no aura to go off of, with this one. An alarming thought. It could just as easily be some cosplayer as much as an alien, though he felt reasonably confident that a lone cosplayer wouldn’t be out at night rummaging around in the dirt.

So if it was a Velencian, what to do with it?

There wasn’t much public to Order about them. Kitty didn’t know anyone personally who’d come into contact with them. All he knew was that they’d arrived on Earth, claimed an alliance with the White Moon, and then aided the Negaverse in forcibly corrupting a handful of senshi during an ambush. As far as Kitty understood it, they could not be trusted, and it was his expectation that they thought the same of him. So he didn’t draw too close; not close enough that he didn’t think he’d be able to react if the boy tried to pull something. But he’d already made himself known, so there was no point in hiding or running.

He clasped his hands behind his back, the picture of an unassuming young man. “This is an odd place for someone to be out at this time,” he commented breezily. “Are you looking for something? Maybe I could lend a hand.”

It was ‘good for him’ to not be perpetually locked away in his bedroom, so Fysarius was doing his best to at least marginally tend to his mental well-being. Ny was worried, and he didn’t really like that. There were activities they could partake in outside of the home together. They could go biking down Destiny City’s nature trails. They could go swimming in the reservoir. They could go to the movies. Or go play Earth competitive games like bowling or “mini golf.” There was a lot they could do here that wasn’t available at home.

Ny seemed like she was fine to try anything, but Fysarius was still… not especially comfortable doing any of these pointless activities. Maybe they were supposed to be for “fun” and distracting, but they just made him anxious. Anxious that everyone was using these things as a means to forget home. He didn’t want to forget home.

That and he absolutely wanted to be around humans as little as possible.

He wasn’t interested in Earth activities. He only wanted to collect bugs and be left alone. Hence, why he was out in the forest at night alone, specifically trying not to be bothered by any humans and without other Vanguard accompaniment. Unfortunately, the locale wasn’t a private one.

Fysarius looked up warily at the sound of a curious query from nearby. His ComTech blipped lightly, a little warning note that something powered was nearby, which Fysarius had already learned to completely tune out when he didn’t want to bother with it. This wasn’t the first time it had bitten him, either. This one was White Moon, and the only direct interaction he’d had with them had been during the Ambush, wherein he’d decidedly not been on their side.

He was always wary when other powered humans approached him, but he felt especially wary now.

“Er, not looking for something, no. I just enjoy the variety of insect specimens you have here, and I like to take some of them home with me sometimes. I think I can handle it without assistance, thank you, and I probably have enough this time, anyway.” He wouldn’t loiter where the White Moon had their senshi patrolling, so calling it quits now was probably best.

Grabbing his jars from the grass around him, Fysarius rose from his crouch. He gave a little incline of his head toward the senshi in farewell- he really didn’t want anything more to come of this- and turned to leave.

Not hostile, but Kitty would hardly say the boy was friendly. He debated the merits of continued amicability, but honestly, he wasn’t convinced it would get him anywhere. Hadn’t these guys as good as chosen their side when their leader decided to ally with the Negaverse? They may have never done anything to Kitty personally, but they were a threat with more years of experience and more technological advancement than a human could ever hope to have in one lifetime.

And here this one was, alone and wandering out in the woods where no one would find him suspiciously harvesting insects for a purpose Kitty didn’t understand…

Was it not Kitty’s duty to neutralize any opposition to the White Moon? Even if some of the aliens could be friendly, Kitty was under no assumption that their objective here was to destroy Chaos. They had aided in the corruption of his brethren, twisting them against their wills to do Chaos’ bidding. They were not friendlies, and they should probably be expunged. He’d be better off doing that with a knife on him, in his civilian clothes. Kitty’s magic was hardly reliably life-threatening, and he doubted he’d be able to effectively punch an alien to death.

So, maybe not to ‘eliminate’ this time. Just to scout. Just to learn. If he could report something of their capabilities to the database, that would be enough.

“Oh, fine,” he hummed boredly. With a dismissive flick of his fingers toward the green-skinned boy, he tugged on the little threads of power that were his magic and said cuttingly, “Be on your way, then.” If nothing else, it would at least be a test of this boy’s susceptibility to magic.

Quote:
Sailor Scout Attack -- Your move.
Kitty selects a target by pointing to someone within ten feet of himself. He is able to give one command to his single chosen target. Anything Kitty demands will inspire a surge of defiance and an unwillingness to act on what Kitty asks of them. Target may follow Kitty's commands, despite this. The feeling lasts for thirty seconds, and the magic can be used three times per battle.

Good. At least the senshi boy didn’t seem interested in following him and didn’t look as though he was preparing for an attack. Fysarius must have gotten lucky in that he was able to just have a brief, few seconds’ worth of conversation with him, and then nothing else would come of it. They wouldn’t even learn each other’s names, and Fysarius was fine with that. Grateful for it, even. He didn’t want interaction with these people.

Later, he’d wonder what exactly had stopped him from leaving, just as he’d planned.

But the way this stupid senshi flicked his fingers at him to send him away, cooed at him in dismissal- This brat had just wandered up with no purpose or intention, and he thought he could just command Fysarius to leave with that attitude. ’Be on your way, then.’ Why did humans have to be like that? Why did they think they ruled everything? The boy was a child compared to Fysarius; he had no right dismissing him. It wasn’t a reasonable thought that had him whirling back around to face the boy again. It was hardly any thought, at all.

“Excuse me,” Fysarius snapped, striding to stand in front of the senshi once more. “But I believe you should leave. I am content to mind my own business without interruption. I am causing no damage, and impeding no one. If you would kindly let me enjoy my hobby in peace, we would have no further interaction with each other.”

Despite the harsh tone of his words, there was something else, too.

After his fight with Cypher, something had been… not quite the same. Fysarius didn’t consider himself aggressive. He didn’t like to inflict hurt or be hurt, generally, but he’d attacked his friend. Fysarius didn’t like what he’d done. He didn’t like the thrill or surge of control it gave him. He wanted to be something different, and now there was a peculiar nagging in his chest, a warning that he could get to that mental place he’d been at with Cypher, and Fysarius was afraid of it.

The corner of Kitty’s lips quirked up in something akin to amusement. So, definitely not insusceptible to magic, then, if the way the boy whipped back around to face him and glared at him with a fire Kitty hadn’t seen previously was any indication.

Now he just had to decide if he was going to more. What good was his magic if not just a jumping off point?

If he wanted a true fight, this was the moment: before the alien had fully come to a stop in front of him, while his momentum carried him forward, and he was unsuspecting of physical assault. He’d definitely lose any shred of hope there might be of forming some kind of mutual partnership here or of any long-term espionage type of tactics. Potentially among their whole group. Kitty didn’t know how likely this one was to share information with his comrades. But he also didn’t really want an alliance with this lot. If he needed to be able to gather information later, he’d send Wild. They wouldn’t recognize him.

It would be more exciting to see how he’d react, anyway.

Kitty didn’t waste another moment of thought. The Vanguard boy had hardly even finished speaking before Kitty was throwing a fist out hard for the other’s throat.

He hadn’t been expecting a fight- Or, well, he had been, initially? He’d been wary of one as the senshi walked up. Fysarius just foolishly expected a little more of a preamble, since the White Moon boy had approached and asked questions, and then seemed fine for him to leave- Everything had gone downhill so quickly. The tumultuous moods Fysarius felt and the little quirk of a smug smile from the senshi, and Fysarius did feel that uncomfortable bile of wanting to hurt someone when he knew he shouldn’t; he had no reason to.

He wasn’t prepared for the fist. It collided with his throat, and Fysarius choked at the impact, lurching back as quickly as he could as he tried to find his footing and do the mental acrobatics for how he should respond. He’d been trained, surely better than any human.

And even while choking, he knew he couldn’t just stand around and wait for whatever blow would come next. If there was damage, he’d investigate it afterward.

Like he did in his practices with Ny, Fysarius dipped to the ground. It avoided much of the damage the senshi could do with his fists, and so long as Fysarius was able to trip up his legs, getting the other boy on the ground would hopefully steal much of the momentum from the fight. Unlike most others of the Vanguard, Fysarius rarely had height or size to aid him in a fight, and unsurprisingly, now was no exception. Taking whatever advantages he could away from his opponent was the most he could do until he could get a good shot lined up.

Just a second of the senshi being off balance would be enough.

He kicked for the guy’s knees, balancing himself on the balls of his feet with his palm to the Earth, and doing everything to not think about how his throat still felt closed and choking from the punch, and how it would just feel justified to put the senshi in a similar predicament.

He hoped he fought. The whole scuffle wouldn’t be worth anything if he didn’t see something of what the alien could do. Even if Kitty could finish this with just his fists with minimal effort, the death would hardly be worth it if he didn’t learn anything about the Vanguardians. He hadn’t seen any weapons, hadn’t seen any abilities. The boy fought like a human. The punch had felt like colliding with something especially solid, but the Vanguardian had gasped and doubled over just the same.

And then he ducked to the earth to evade any of Kitty’s follow-up.

“C’mon, don’t run,” Kitty hummed lightly as the boy dropped into a crouch. The kick was easy enough to evade, just a little skip back to put some distance between them, but there was nothing stopping Kitty from continuing his onslaught. Honestly, it seemed like the worst thing that could happen would be that more of the Vanguard would appear unnoticed. He couldn’t sense them, so it’d be trouble if they appeared out of nowhere.

Kitty expected some kind of distress signal would be among the abilities they could use, but… He’d have to wait and see. He was eager to see.

He dove forward again. A crouched position was good to get away from his fists, but hardly allowed for much maneuverability, and now Kitty could kick him while he was down. He swung back with his heel, going for another high blow.

Do run?

Fysarius shivered involuntarily at the light, lilting tone the senshi presented him with, like he’d initiated this accosting on a whim for amusement. None of it seemed reasonable to Fysarius, who had been just moments ago minding his own business. He’d known not to trust the Whte Moon; they’d be angry after the ambush, but it had just- seemed normal at first, and now they were fighting. He was choking after being punched in the throat!

As much as he wanted to lash out and make sure he wasn’t the only one hurting from this encounter, Fysarius had to try and stay smart, here. He did not want to do anything that would draw attention or attract notice. Just leave. Before things got uglier.

The senshi skipped back. It was just a second from after Fysarius had tried to kick him, but he didn’t really need much more than that. Fysarius raised his arm, pointing the shot from his little wristband of a weapon at the ground in front of the senshi’s feet. He neither wanted nor needed a direct shot. Just something close enough to get the other man off balance while Fysarius escaped. He fired of a thread, one thin and glimmering little string that plastered to the grass in front of the senshi.

Immediately, small stones and loose leaf litter started to pull toward it. The radius wasn’t huge. There was no dust storm or the like, but it was disorienting to have everything around moving all at once, and it had landed quite close to the senshi- Close enough to drag at him, as well.

Fysarius felt a negligible amount of the attraction. He was far enough away that he could simply twist from his crouched position, turn on his heel, and take off at a run, tapping away at the screen of his ComTech as he moved. Within another beat, he had the teleporter menu pulled up, and it was just a push of a button to recall directly to the warp pad in the Vanguard house. Safe at home, which was where he wanted to be anyway, and away from the senshi.

Quote:
A black metallic wristband with a chartreuse energy crystal inlaid in the center. It is otherwise nondescript. The wristband shoots out an energy thread that is about a foot long and remains on the field for ten seconds. The thread has a magnetic effect that draws things to stick to it (at opposing player’s discretion, such as they could draw in small debris from nearby or entangle part of a limb). A thread can be deployed once every thirty seconds.

His inhale came sharp as the alien pointed some launcher-type weapon strapped to his wrist in Kitty’s direction. It could be anything. It could do anything. Kitty had nothing to base any assumption on toward what the weapon might be. He jerked himself backward out of his own attack, twisting to plant palms on the ground and lurch himself out of the way while trying to maintain balance. And the thing went off, jettisoning out a shimmery little thread that could also do anything.

The pull of it felt almost gravitational, and loose debris in the area seemed to agree.

It dragged on one of Kitty’s feet, and even if he’d intended to give chase as the alien fled, he suddenly found himself unable to get much distance from the thread laying across the ground. He knew better than to glance away from his opponent, so even though he wanted to inspect the strand, Kitty’s golden gaze followed after the Vanguardian, watching as he sprinted through the trees, tapped away at his wrist, and then-

Vanished.

He’d teleported! He’d teleported, not so unlike what the Negaverse’s agents could do. Of course! Of course he would have that ability if they were allied. And now he could be anywhere. Behind or above- There was nothing Kitty could do to sense his aura, so he simply had to be alert for movement from anywhere, and it could be anywhere. His head swiveled sharply up, then back to glance over his shoulder. He didn’t see anything, didn’t feel anything.

It was maybe as likely that the alien had simply fled while Kitty was trapped, but shouldn’t he capitalize on the opening his weapon had created? For several long seconds, Kitty stood- He had to, because the thread still tugged at his legs like it was a planet pulling him in.

Then it vanished. The dust and leaves settled, and everything went quiet besides the soft rustling of wind through tree leaves. He was alone, after all.
