Cephalopod Tug O War

Ushiwa sipped tea by the fire. It was a cold, misty and rainy day, most of his family were reading or doing other quiet things. Needless to say, he was kind of bored, as young children often get. One could only poke a stick in the fire so many times before he ran out of stick. He wondered where his father had gone, he was not in his office, or the barn, or the paddock. Ushi wondered if his dad had gone off on an adventure. He wanted to go on an adventure too! He got up and wandered to the back of their property. The woods hooted creepily, but he wasn't afraid, he came from a family of beast tamers after all.

He stepped below the canopy and was swallowed up by the darkness, so this was were Dad went every day. He had to admit that it was a bit more mossy in here than he had been expecting. Humid too, hmm, he grasped a branch, it was cool and damp. It was awesome in here no wonder why Mom and Dad loved it so much. There were all kinds of bugs and squishy things, just what he liked to play with.

He had gotten quite a ways in the direction that he thought his Dad had gone in, judging from the edgy trail that was the only truly passable path through this thick part of the jungle. A twig snapped and Ushi froze. His hair stood on end, it was a predator out there, he could feel it. A hissing base growl confirmed his suspicions. He knew the call, it was a snaptrotter, likely a bull from the base not baritone call. A big one. This was just great.

He dared not breath as he looked up and leaped into a low hanging branch just in time the snaptrotter charged and lunged for him. Ushi clung to the branch with one arm, legs braced, a wild grin on his face. How exilarating had that been! So this was what it was like to be a wild beast tamer. He felt for all intents and purposes that he was a superhero, meant to save all the animals of tendaji from certain doom. A make believe volcano threatened them all. He wathched the beast stomp angrily below, this wasn't so bad. He swung on to the next branch and quickly lost his scaley stalker who he believed deep in his gut had been more territorial than hungry for his flesh.
He was unwilling to find out for sure. Further on. he came across beautiful orange lilies with black spots in their throats. They somehow reminded him of his mother and her startling grace and beauty. It was here unfortunately that he slipped and ended up on his bum. Thankfully the ground was soft. He looked up only to stare into the broad and terrifying snout of a wild Yaotl.
His day just kept getting better and better, even he knew that this beast could seriously hurt him. His heart raced and he scrambled sideways like a crab, the great claw came out but he was small enough to avoid most of the blow. He got a scratch on his arm but managed to elude the creature until he could get into a store cave that even a Yaotl couldn't break down. There he sat, shaking a little bit, catching his breath.

"Calm Collected Together Serene."

He hadn't been eaten, all was okay. He clapped a hand to the scratch on his arm. Now at least he had time to inspect his injury as he would not be leaving anytime soon. Getting nearly eaten did that to a person, his knees were still knocking together a little bit. And to think Dad had ridden one of those as part of a job. Ushi felt like it would be okay if he never saw one of those again. He peeked out at the entrance and couldn't see anything, but he was so not going out there.

Dad was even cooler than he had thought that beast had been so long that it seemed to just go on for forever. And that stare had been bone chilling, like it had looked through him and all that. It was like a giant had chased him, he wished his parents were here, even his older brother or Ny.

He was pretty sure it wouldn't eat Honi on principle, she was too sweet. His twin was no bigger than he was, and thus would be of little help to him. He huffed and curled in on himself, wishing he had a blanket.

Eventually he fell asleep for a while, luckily for him, nothing had come into the cave looking for him. When he woke up, he was certain that enough time had passed to bore the beast, he checked three times before he went out and continued up the path. Hungry now, he looked for delicious fruit trees, it took a while before he finally spotted a grove in the distance, the path crossed a broad beach. He stepped out onto the sand, found a sunny spot and rested in the light for a bit. Once he was warm he continued on down the beach, noting new footprints and pretty dark purple shells. It was very pretty here, he had to admit, it kinda was his new favorite place. The only problem was it was awfully toothy out here, so maybe next time he could just come with his Dad. That way he could just enjoy it, instead of being worried about being eaten by whatever hungry creature came along.

He was more than a little opposed to being an orderve. He waded into the ocean and felt the usual comforting presence of the ocean. It seemed to swirl within his chest, a surge of energy, making him feel more settled and in control. he wondered if he would feel the same way in his fathers homelans, maybe not. That would be a bit cold. He didn't think he would like cold, he enjoyed the sunshine too much. It was rather hot out, maybe a nice seim, he waded out deeper. He dove in then and scouted about to see if there was any likely food about to be harvested. Looping back and forth he comed the reefs; there could be oysters or octopus about. Both were deliscious travel snacks that his older brother had taught him to catch. He was squirreling out an octopus when a loud thump startled him. What now?

What fell beast cometh forth? Oh, freat, he saw the large flat paddletail squick away. A zanteer. Only the most maneuverable of the opponants under the water, couldn't have been a school of guppies, noooo.

The zanteer cried out a challenge they loved food, it obviously wnated his octopus. He was sad because it was a big one and he was pretty sure that he would not be winning this fight. Oh well. He could at least try! He was so hungry. He continued to poke about at the rock, startlling the octopus into emerging part way. Suddenly the zanteer was there, yanking on the other end of the octopus. Ushi grabbed a thick tentacle near the base and held on. The good news was that between the two of them they got the octopus off of the rock; the bad news was that he had a full grown, extra large, grade a zanteer on the other end of his octopus. It dragged him around for a while through the water, until Ushiwa inhaled some water and choking irritably had to give up on his prize. The good for nothing creature rose with him and smugly ate his octopus right there in front of him. He was not impressed.

"Fine, be like that, add insult to injury." He turned and began to head back to shore, after all that had happened today he was not about to drown himself fighting with a zanteer over a cephalopod.

He was worth more than that. He tilted up his nose snootily and was none too pleased when he brought it back down to see the river rat had followed him.

"What do you want, I have no additional octopi on my person.

In reply the zanteer chuffed and purred before headbutting him playfully.

"Go away thief." he kept swimming for shore. The zanteer frolicked about him being able to swim at rediculous speeds.

"Show off!" he muttered. Crawling out onto shore he sighed and flopped down. That was probably enough adventure for one day. He was tired and still hungry. The zanteer bounced about before pelting off down the beach. What had been in that octopus? He regretted even more not eating it. He huffed and turned for home. He was relatively sure that he would not find his father out here today. Tiredly he trudged home, when he was nearing home the zanteer dropped a big oyster in front of him.

Probably the biggest oyster he had seen ever. The zanteer nudged the oyster closer to him and then backed away with a lowered head.

"A gift? You're sure?" he squinted at the animal before bending over and picking up the proffered oyster.

"Thank you." he nodded his head. He supposed he was quite lucky after all and bowed shallowly to the zanteer.

"You are forgiven, you may go now." he turned away and continued on. Somehow in an impormptu game of sea creature tug of warm he had potentially made anew friend, or at the very least an aquaintence.

It was a scary huge jungle out there and he breathed a sigh of relief once he crossed the boundary of his yard. No one seemed to be home and sheepishly he thought they might be out searching for him. He was going to be in so much trouble later when they all got home. He would most likely be doing the dishes for a month. And perhaps even more. He hoped his twin wasn't too worried. His stomach rumbled loudly and he wandered into the kitchen to prepare a sandwich. When he looked up it was to see the zanteers curious face framed in the window.

"Found me did you?" He raised an eye brow and fed the zanteer the first sandwich.

"Guesting rules and all that you should look them up." He raised an eyebrow and took a bite out of his own sandwich and truly felt like it was one of the best tasting things that he had had in a long time. he made a few more sandwiches and shared them with his new familiar. He figured if it had followed him all the way out here that it was probably going to stay.

Ushi was out on a self professed scouting mission. The day was clear with a cloud or two marring the horizon off to the East. He inhaled a breath of sweet freedom. No chores today because his older brother had been caught sneaking out of the house while he was grounded for a more minor infraction. His parents were nothing if not fair.
Thus Thallassa was doing all of his siblings chores for a week, ths having no time to adventure, what an absolute pity for him. Ushi was oing to live it to the max. What should he do? Huh. He had to admit he was kinda bored. He whistled loudly and summoned the zanteer who had refused to leave when Ushi had returned home from that long ago terrifying adventure. Anbu came bounding over to him like he had sunshine caught in his fur.

"We are perky today arn't we?"

He stroked the soft, rich fur, that smoothed over Anbu's broad forehead, even his father said that Anbu was a big zanteer. This made Ushi proud. It hadn't been all that hard to tame his first beast. Though the adventure over all had been a bit much at the time. Though his dad had taken it upon himself to teach his son about bushcraft so that he would not get into such desperate straights again

For example he had a pocketful of helpful healing herbs from his Mother's stash, a small pocket knifr, a fire starter set, food, water, paper and a pencil, a warm cloak and treats for Anbu. He was so much better prepared, and as promised he would not wander far without someone else. Grinning he raced off down the beach.

"I hope we are not going to meet as many scary creatures as we did last time, I could go for like a smallish fish. I had more than enough of almost dying during the day I met you."

He had to admit that he talked to his zanteer an awful lot, and like the beast would answer him, he wasn't sure why he started to do it, it just seemed to happen. Then he noticed that his whole family liked to do it. So he obviously came by the habit honestly. Besides he felt that animals were way smarter than people gave them credit for. Zanteers were pretty loyal once they bonded with you, they told you if there was a fire, if there were intruders. Many loved to have them for travel as an insurance against surprise attack, and they were such happy beautiful things. So soft and joyful. His grandfather had one that helped raise his Mom and Aunty Rista.

They wandered out over the beaches, they had gone quite far when he felt something wet splat on his arm, he looked down quixotically. Looking up he gasped. It was going to pour and quickly. They were way too far back from home.
He raced Anbu to the treeline just as the sky released a pounding rain in an absolute fit of fury.

He thankfully found a rain palm, a sturdy plant with the broadest leaves in the jungle. He crawled underneath it, holding a leaf or two down to further shelter himself. Anbu crawled in after him, swathing Ushi in his warm super soft fur. He was now quite warm and comfortable sheltered from the onslaught of a torrential downpour as only the tropics can provide.

"Then again this might not be that bad after all."

They sat quietly, defeaned by the downpour, he couldn't even see the water anymore and they were barely within the treeline.

"Quite furious out there isn't it? The frist of our Monsoon rains arrived upon the winds at long last."

Matori would be grateful for the water, giving everything green a hearty boost, The rains just made day to day living a little tricky. Trees would have to be felled or removed. Banks would be treacherous with the deluge. Soon it would be over and the land would be properly soaking wet along with any of its ill prepared habitants.

His mother cheerfully called it the time of leaky roofs. He disliked the noise it made when it was inside. He preferred his bedding at least dry.

Since he felt they were going to be here for a while he broke out the snack for himself and the zanteer.

He fed Anbu first, enjoying the interaction more than he would ever admit. Also Anbu had such cute little ears and he like to rub them.

He broke into his own food, bread and some well arapped cheese. His stomach rumbled and he smiled, adventuring sure took a lot out of him at least fuel wise.

"Hrrng, yum." His Mom made just the best cheese. It was one of her hidden talents.

"Good thing zanteers don't eat cheese huh?"
He gently poked Anbu who purred.

"Who is the sweetest zanteer ever? You are?" he sunk his fingers into the thick fur. It had become like a comfort blanket for him. Well, if one could get used to the smell of fish breath. He smirked, he didnt mind too much, it was workt it for the companionship. With Anbu he could go anywhere.

He wondered fi thew as the same feeling that his father felt with his bonded animals. He also wondered whether his older brother would choose beast path or hunter ranger. He knew there were no other choices for him either. All lay in the balance of the blade.

The rain seemed to go on forever, pounding relentlessly over the canopy.

Where would he be ten years from now? Leader of an army? Lord of the land? Innkeeper? Now that would be funny.

He wondered a lot of things. What his parents had been like as kids, why had they chosen to stay in Matori and not Oba or Zena, besides maybe how pretty it was here.

Perhaps he should try to get home after all? He had been here a while, but he had promised his mom he would be careful no matter what on pain of a sore butt. And he didn't want to hurt her feelings either so the safest thing was just to stay put until such a time as all the beasties couldn't so easily sneak up on him in his vulnerable state.

So much for his fire starting kit, that only worked when your shelter wasn't quite so flammable.

"I wish I had a thick fur coat like you. Oh well we can not all be the perfection that is a zanteer."

He settled in comfy and played with the dice his father had given him, he rolled them over and over. The carved shell bits tinkled prettily together against the backdrop sound of the storm. He found it comforting.

He was ashamed to find later that he drifted off to sleep. Though he did remember his Dad's advice on getting sleep when you could on adventures because it was never guaranteed. He was so happy that his family had given him some training in survival, it was so fun to be out here with only his wit and experience to guide his steps.

He made a resolution to spoil his zanteer when he got out of there.

He couldn't wait to grow up and go on real adventures into far off places and see what he could see.

He had finally found the base of the thieves. His breath came in quick gasps and he worked to crush his excitement and rely on his training and instincts with a calm mind. Just like his father had taught him or all of his hard work would be for nothing if he blew his mission before he even truly started. So he sat with quill and paper and watched the camp, making notes of every move that was made. He would get his beast back. After the observation phase he made an infiltration plan that should work. They wouldn't think that they would still be pursued but it was a matter of pride and Ushi couldn't settle for less than the best. He had also let his father down and that was something he had to make right somehow. Kiyelt had not made him feel bad understanding that days sometimes go sideways in the field, and there wasn't all that much one could do except ride out the ensuing storm.

His father would have come with him he knew. But this was something he needed to do on his own. He was somewhat surprised that they hadn't sold off the extremely valuable beast a long time ago and pocketed the coin. Someone in the caravan must have formed a bond with the beast pity for them that they were about to lose that bond. He used every single stealth skill that his parents had ever taught him. Slowly, he delved into the camp hiding behind crates and various supplies inching toward the tie lines where the mounts were being kept. He could see his target he needed to get close enough that the beast could smell him. He was also hoping that the janarim would stay calm and not be too excited over his sudden reappearance. It could go either way and depended on the temperament of the individual. He settled up to the janarim's side and got a hearty head but and a low rumbled greeting.

"Hush," he whispered gently. He was touched at his reception, but too much noise could blow his cover. They had double roped the beast, he must have been giving them trouble. So much excellent training had been bestowed on him. The Janarim nudged his arm for pets and Ushi decided that he would purchase him off of his father once he got home, a man was only as good as his mouth. There would be many more beasts in the future, but right now this one was the only one he wanted. His former weakness would become one of his greatest strengths. He would not let the janarim down again. He worked at the knots that bound his predator with a sharp knife, he did didn't need a saddle or bridle, they would be faster without them. He knew all the required commands plus some used only in combat. If he could get the beast loose and get a little bit of a headstart then his pursuers wouldn't stand any chance against him. He would cut the lines for the other janarim and shoo them off.He wouldn't let them have any wriggle room this time he was all about efficiency and logic now straight in straight out straight home, no distractions and no regrets. He refused to lose a second time he would make his family proud of him and right the wrong that had been done to his clan. He had to grow up had to become a man. He had to take it all quite serious now he would become a general. He would bring much prestige and prosperity to his loved ones; fine clothes, fine furniture. He would surround himself in success and his family would want for nothing. He would win this strange game of life here. Then maybe he would look at other places. The frayed rope finally snapped leaving just the rope headstone, which could easily be removed later. "Okay, boy, time to make a run for it." He released a small scurrying critter and the janarim of the camp chased it off into the desert. He swung up onto the familiar broad plated back and blazed out of the thieves camp like every hound from hell was after him. Good luck catching him. Now he raced around a rock outcrop and held back a hoot of joy. The less noise the better. This was incredibly exciting.
Time to to head pell mell to the border between Sauti and Tale. Vast wilderness stood between him and home, but his heart was on fire with adrenaline pure sweet undiluted adrenaline. He felt untouchable, his mouth had picked up, partly on his vibes and he felt the beast gradually warm up beneath him and stretched the ground eating strategy out even further. They had to get to the great tall grass plains of Tale, there it would be much easier to hide from the pursuers who no doubt were not too far behind him. The saving grace with this particular caravan didn't have any Xaraan in its host, meaning that in this terrain, the best they could manage was equal to the speed that he was capable of. Ushi had spent months preparing for this and honing his skills but most of all he had learned tactical strategy. He had even slept with his notebook, his whole body, mind and soul was focused intently on accomplishing the singular all consuming goal. Nothing was going to stop him now. A howl behind him drew his attention and sent cold shivers down his spine. They had radaku he hadn't seen any in the camp, maybe it was a returning patrol. He sought cover immediately in a direction opposite of the howl. He was not here to play around, radaku were game changers. Now, it was a game of time he had to get far enough away and remain unseen or it would be a loss.

He wondered how many radaku there would be. Three to five were kind of typical, but some folks got upwards of twenty. Life had just gotten more interesting. He couldn't help the feral grin, (teeth bared), that flashed on his face. Time to put all that training to the test. This would be the scale in which he was graded, succeed and live or fail and potentially face brutal consequences. He inhaled air cut out of the wind and proceeded to focus only on his goals, only on the next step, the next precaution. This was how he was going to make it. He felt a beautiful synergy exist between himself and his Janarim; a rare and beautiful harmonizing of souls between different species. That meant they all belonged together somehow all species in nature, together It was a web, it was a weaving, it was a battle in tooth and claw, scream and roar.

. Fortune smiled upon him this day. As for the rest of the trip, only one Radaku caught up to him before he could reach the grass plains that meant freedom from pursuit. The loner had found them but Ushi sent a well aimed kick his way and protected them. The confusion gave the janarim some time to turn and he ripped into the rasaku who fell howling, but would never get up again. He couldn't even process the fear or how he had acted half on instinct before they entered the Tallgrass Plain. He had made it to safety, now it was time to lose any and all pursuit. He delved deep into the grass, his Gennaro barreling through the thick foliage easier than the radaku. He made several loop backs and confused any scent trails left behind. Once that was complete, he began to navigate home.

He would have to rest soon, his janarim too would need a break. He was well on his way when he noticed the perfect copse to settle down in for the night. He felt it was safe enough to have a small fire to heat his food. He set one two burning and then proceeded to comb over the janarim looking for any wounds or problems. Everything he did with the janarim felt right somehow, like working with the animal was what he had been born to do. That settled it then he was going to be a beast tamer too. He would weave beasts in and out of his life. And in so doing strengthen any hold he had on those around him simply because it was something he was meant to do. Maybe in beast charming he would find the joy he was seeking. He thought as he often did about where he was going in life, and how he could best support his family in his own way on his own terms. He was very independent from the get go. Though he would always have a soft spot for his family, most especially for his twin who had him wrapped around her finger simply because she was the coolest person ever. He was so proud. To have a sister like her.

Theirs would collectively be a mighty clan one day and he was determined to be a leader of it one day he would be the pride of his family. Then he would have a family of his own. Supposing he found the right mate. He wrinkled his nose at the thought of girls, then again boys could be just as bad anyway he would have a family or if needs be adopt like his grandfather had. His heart squeezed at the thought of his mother and his aunt once being alone and with no one to run to.

He tightened the cinch on his saddle, he was leaving for a while to train with a tamer his dad recommended. He knew why his father had done it, one was more likely to take to heart. lessons taught from someone not in one's own direct family. Ushi could see the merit of that and had not felt offended. He was more excited than nervous, thankfully, he did love a good adventure and this would be the first adventure where his beloved janarim was finally his. His father had given him the beast he had not had to pay. He swung handily up into the saddle. He had been practicing that now he could perform it smoothly. He rocked the saddle back and forth a bit, letting it adjust and settle over the thick armor plates. Then he retightened the cinch and gathered his reins. He squeezed his feet tighter to his mount sides and set off on a comfortable jog. Ushi was seized with a sort of excited contentment as they set off. This man his Fathter had told him about must live in Jauhar. It wouldn't be the easiest trip but a janarim made it comfortable enough. His heart was full and he felt like he was meant to do this, was meant to be here on the road to further study.

This made sense because he meant to be the best at what he did. He knew he was special. He knew he had talent. He just wished his twin could come with him. But sadly this was a solo challenge. The journey went well for the most part.

Wildlife mostly left janarim blundering into their territory well enough alone once they got a look at the size of the intruder. It was much less stressful traveling this way. He was touched deeply by the big gift. His dad was probably happier this way too. Ushi knew that his father would have kept way more animals if they had the resources for it. There was always that uncertainty that maybe they were not going to decent homes. This constantly stressed his family out to one degree or another. It took days to reach Jauhar, another day to get his bearings, then he was ready.

It was then that he started to follow the map of the town that his dad had given him with ink arrows pointing the way to the guy's place that he was supposed to find. He arrived at a modest tree house. It was very naturalized with vines dripping over everything and enchanting pollinating insects closer with their luring fragrance,. birdsong echoed hauntingly through the forest, motes of sunshine caught on dust particles that seemed to shimmer and glow faintly. In a word was enchanting and wild and he immediately liked the place, it put off good vibes.

As he continued to look, he saw the saddle and leather draped over railings, rustic feed and water buckets tucked neatly away, all tools of the beast charming trade. He felt that he was definitely in the right place but no one was home so maybe he should find a place in town and come back at a later time. Beast tamers usually drifted if they could, part of their nature. Always looking for the next find. He turned and started because there was a man staring at him hanging upside down from a vine like he'd been there the whole time. There was no sound. He had to admit that he had made a sound a small meep of surprise. He resented it. Still though, he expected that even his father had gotten frightened at some point when he had been young. He couldn't even picture it.
" Hi, my father sent me here to look for a beast tamer who would train me."

This man was obviously an alk earthling hybrid. Judging from the proud feelers likely a 50/50 mix very, very cool. From the bluish skin that was quite dark, he was a Water Tribe descendant too. Alk markings swirled prettily over his skin.

Fascinated, he suddenly very much hoped that this was the man he was supposed to find. The male grunted and flipped gracefully to the ground. He was well muscled and looked very at home in his own body, lithe power and grace. Ushi wanted very much to be like him, able to command attention without too much effort and hold people spellbound.

" In that case, my name is Misha, I will be your trainer Your father told me that you show great promise even at such a young age," the man stared off as if thinking about something far off or long ago. Ushi eyed the man, he wasn't that much older. Ushi was nearly an adult. This guy looked young, not Prentice young, but still.

"First you have to do a test, you have three days to prepare. The hint is stamina."

Abruptly the man walked away and she was stood still quite stunned. This guy had to be the strangest person had ever met. Misha hmm, he was in for a headache, he could tell. For three days he practiced running, pushing himself to go further every day. The morning finally came that he got his assignment. It felt like he had been waiting for forever. His teacher appeared suddenly behind him again. The man was like a ghost and Ushi really wished he would stop doing that

He vaguely wished his sister Nykinae were here to suffer with him, she would give this man a tongue lashing. No one should be able to creep like that.

"You're mission." The hybrid put a piece of art with a gorgeous radaku painted on top. "Is too train this specific radaku. Be careful they bite."
"That's it. That's all I get?"
" Yep," theman said cheerfully, smiling so hard that his squinty eyes all but disappeared.

Ushi set off to bebait a radaku. Hi ho, hi ho, hi ho, hi ho, this was not going to be easy. Radaku who like to hunt in packs, he huffed. Beast bait except he might end up being the bait.

The first thing he did was hunt down a small furry game animals. Then he set up a pit trap and suspended the bait over the trap. Then he moved up and out of scent range, he would hear the cacophony if something took the bait because he had tied like six little bells to it. Rigged to fall with a good tug. He was exhausted but proud of himself and he settled down to snack on a bit of fruit. He was quite mortified to be woken up from a nap nearly falling out of the tree which probably would have killed him. Such childish mistakes, he would have to do better. He swung down to the pit eager to see if he had caught any animal really. He had to kind of hang over the edge a bit to properly see into the pit.

There was a radaku down there but the color and markings were off. Better luck next time he would put the ramp down and let the beast go. He turned and came face to silently snarling face with the very radaku whom had been trying to catch. "s**t." was all he could get out before the radaku latched onto his forearm, he hissed in pain but tried not to cry out. It would only upset the matter further. The radaku growled, it was a disturbingly intimate moment. He stared into the fiery eye.

"I assume that it is a blood family member down there. I will let them out. We can continue our fair competition without involving others but you have to let go."

He held still despite a rapidly beating heart, his only encouragement was that despite constant growling the radaku had not yet shook his head. Suddenly another radaku slammed into the one that held him. Startled the radaku let go and slipped into the pit. Ushi stared at the new threat; the older Radek who just looked at him. Ushi slowly leaned forward into a bow never taking his eyes off the radaku. He was not sure what posessed him to do it, and if anyone was watching, like he thought the supposed hybrid teacher might be doing, he would probably look like he was greeting his own death. The body language was wrong for an attack he felt but the beast was still front and center in front of him.

" I will get your friend out and finish my business with other I will not hurt anyone. Just give me a moment he tossed a looped rope over his target's neck. Who glared balefully out at him before he put the ladder down for the other to climb out.

All done with third radical watching him.
" Give me a chance with this one, I will take care of him I promise. He's old enough to leave home now... is that why you are not eating me? Is he a pest?" Ushi, inspired, flung a hunk of meat off into the bush.
" Payment for your time, he dabbed his arm and turned back to the young radaku, which was just the right age to leave and start his own pack.
" I will call you Ooka, you will have a grand exciting life if you come with me. I'll give you lots of females, you'll be fed and brushed. Just please don't eat me now."
It took him three days, but he finally won over the radaku. He even gave the beast the option to return home. But Ooka hadn't left, seeming to accept his job at Ushi's side. Ushi had personally never felt this very special bond.He was a little floored at the implications. The power of spirit that could be had when you work together was astounding. What others out there might wait?

Class Quest
His mother had asked him to go to the gorge and check on the Zanteer that lived there, she was overdue to have her pups and his mum was worried. Ever the dutiful son Ushi went off to check. He carried a small med kit with him just in case. It was a beautiful area. He enjoyed the vibrant growth of the tropical plants and the music sung by all the different birds. It was absolutely thrumming with life. He felt safe, he felt at home. The outdoors calmed him more than the indoors did. He thought that seemed to be a familial trait. He got to the mouth of the gorge; a craggy stone covered rock way that took all of his physical finesse to navigate. He respected his mother's physical capability a little bit more now. His clattering echoed off the walls and he went, not exactly the graceful entrance that he wanted to make. Ushi breathed deep of the air of the gorge; sweet and leafy. It was a lush paradise down here with a thick river running through it. A pregnant zanteer's paradise as it meant easy fishing and a good den site. He trailed up to the area where his mother had said she would potentially be. He heard a distressed moan and followed the noise to where the mother zanteer had made a den in a crack in the barrier wall of the gorge. Ushi crept up on her and talking quietly checked her over, it didn't look good. He grabbed his med kit and did what he could for her. His family had given him good med skills and a lot of practice and the the trick was always to believe that they could do it. If he gave up at any point then the mother might as well and that would be the end. He would have to spend the night. "Let me make a fire girl, we're going to need it before this night is over." He was real concerned. He would need warm and wet cloths and a lot of tea; some for him and some special herbs for the lady to help her keep her strength up.

He got the fire going and came back to sit with her and gave her encouragement, he stroked the ultra soft fur on her head. He moved only to infuse the tea and then drip some into her mouth minding the ultra sharp teeth. He gave the herb's a bit of time to kick in letting her rest.

He sipped his own tea and watched; learning. His training flowing smoothly but she looked like she was struggling still. He went over and push gently and experimentally. He felt the shift slightly, he checked internally and sure enough a kit was stuck going the wrong way. He did his best but it took precious time. He was covered from head to toe. The mother was tired and weak but there were three large male kits suckling quietly at her side. He was so exhausted he couldn't imagine what she felt like. He was coated in sweat and dust in tears and blood. It was like a war and there were more tears to be shed. The mother was fading, he sat with her for her final moments and tears tracked their way down his face, something inside him had broke.

Blurb: Ushi's character has a risk of turning to the dark side. This experience helped him to connect with his emotions, which he is far too adept at burying.
Everyone struggles and sometimes struggles are as serious as life or death. It is important to be sensitive in both areas, he has an easier time connecting with animals and they work as teachers in his life. This furthers his sense of such skill of responsibility and resolve. It also gives him a little more strength in his handling stuff on his own and independence scores.

He nearly lost Saeruin and he was grateful his sister was there to help. It crystallized some things in his brain which had become indolent with the joy of an otherwise stellar and joyful family life. He will be consistantly in pursuit of the daughter that got taken and more ruthless than he was previously, none of which he will take out on his family or those close to him but strangers might get the sharp side of his tongue or a well placed weapon. He leaned hard on Einsol when Sae crawled back to him injured and he cherishes his sister as always above everyone else besides his immediate family. He will support Sae in her recovery and hunt with her when they are able to. Most of his life has been put on pause while he searches for his daughter.
