Sae 6

She did scream, the thing between her teeth helped and she bit so hard that she was happy that their was a layer of leather between her jaws and the steel because her teeth might not have survived.

She snarled a little when it was done, it had been quick but pain like that lasting a few second felt like eternity. She sighed with relief when the poultice brought cooling relief to her battered body.

She might need a bit more time than normal to bounce back from this. It hadn't been an ordinary injury..she had been unable to roll to cushion the fall per say.

"Ow." Was all she said, spitting out the bar. A little fire returning to her eyes after the fire to her side.

He was relatively sure that if he could look in a mirror that his eyes would be glowing. That had been so very unpleasant on so many visceral levels. At least he could breath, now that Sae was breathing again too.

"I'm so sorry love. It had to be cauterized to stop your..er... leaking."

He too was happy to see the bandage with all the herbals go on. They would help with any infection. He was so grateful that Ein had been here. He could have done it himself, but not as easily and there would have been no one to hold her down.

"No worries, we are going to roast that earthling alive once we figure out who he is. We will get Elaxi back.

Malibu grunted as he had only heard female snaptrotters do with their babies as he nuzzled Saeruin all over.

Ushi gave the beautiful blue and red beast a pat of reassurance. "She is going to be alright now Mally."

In Einsol's fell mood, she didn't so much as flinch at her sister's howls, adding them to the pile of hurts her prey had caused. She was a practical girl, however. Dramatic revenges and torments just wasted everyone's time. Blood would pay all debts, once he told them where 'Xi had gone. Ushi could imagine pain all he wanted, if it helped. Death was enough for his sister, once the pack was whole again. "Aye. We'll hunt soon. Just as soon as you're well enough to move, you'll join us. 'Til then, you're stayin' here at the den, to guard our other cubs.

I'll have Mally here sit on you if you don't, an' have the triplets back her. They know better than to argue with me." Her own threat she left unspoken, as her teacher had said to do. People looked oddly at a healer that would break a stubborn patient's leg to keep them abed. She reached up with a spare hand to rub under the snaptrotter's jawbone, stroking firmly along the scales. Her temper ran cold and long, given lingering cause. But much like the reptiles, she held no grudge once she'd bitten back. Violence was just another chore, unpleasant and necessary.

"Lift her up. Gotta bind this to her. It's wrappin' or glue, an' my master'll hate unbindin' less." At worst, the old woman would take shears to the bandages before she tidied up the mess. When Sae's torso rose, the blue girl wasted no time, looping four times around the pad and poultice. Tight bandaging here would help, in case of delays.

Sae 7
With the way she was feeling staying at the den for a while would have to do. She felt like she had been run over by a herd of mammu and then dragged backwards through a knot hole. Revenge would have to wait until she could stand without swaying again. But Einsol’s words gave her much heart. She laid a hand of gratitude on Ushi’s arm. Everything would be okay because she had found him and of course there was her sweet ‘little’ Malibu whom she would bever leave behind ever ever again.
“Love you guys.”

“Hopefully the healer gets here soon. She seems to be stable enough but the blood loss took a lot of her pizazz out of her.” She would have one hell of a morning tomorrow but at least she would have a tomorrow.

“I’m not letting you out of my sight again.”

Another thought made him put his head in his hands. “How do I tell Kechiri that someone straight up stole her baby sister? She is going to be so very heartbroken.”

The girls had been inseparable since they were born.

"Should be no more'n an hour. Less if she gets a ride. Papa picked quick birds for this batch." Even if she were delayed more, this would keep her one of her newest sisters alive. The immediate danger was over. Fever, infection, those could be fought over time. A spare cloth, hot and fresh from the pot, wiped red hands blue again, clean enough to hold one of Sae's and squeeze reassurance.

The notion of telling 'Chiri softened those hard yellow eyes, the lines of her face. The awful cold in her was made to move aside by emotions more terrible still for their tenderness. Love had no concept of right or wrong, after all, just connection. "I... I dunno, Ushi. Can't just spin up a story here. Gotta tell her how it is, I think. An' what we're doin' to get 'Xi back." The notion of losing her twin was not one she'd ever seriously contemplated. Thus, 'Chiri's aunt had little footing to empathize beyond shared heartache and speculation.

"...If y'need, we could have the triplets stay with her after. Maybe with Thal or Terr. Prob'ly better to have all the cubs in one den for a bit." Brief silence while her other hand found its way to Ushiwa's cheek. "Ma an' Da'll be here soon. If y'need to wait t'tell 'Chiri, we can wait. Can be there with ya. But it should be you, should be Sae."

Sae 8

Her spurt of energy didn't last long. Malibu curled up beside her and she idly stroked his scales, her eyes half lidded as he did a deep rumbling purr beside her.

She was grateful she wasn't alone. Alone would be very bad. She was sure tomorrow the events of today were going to come crashing down to crush her. But for now, she had fully worn her beleagured, stressed mind right out and her body was not far behind.

She could hear the mutterings from the twins. It would have been so nice to have a twin, she thought. She took a deep breath and let herself doze a little.

"You are right." He let a tear or two slide out of his eyes. He could be vulnerable around these two...and his Mother and that was it. Everyone else got the grr face.

He was in fact horribly heartbroken and it would take his daughter back and a lot of time to fix it.

He recognized the coldness in her eyes and would be satisfied to hunt Elaxi's captors with his sister. She could control the urge he would have to maim and torture the one who brought so much pain to his family. A snapped neck would be so much more efficient.

"I think putting all the cubs together is a good idea. Kechiri should not be alone and I have to be with Sae."

Both hands stroked and held, each holding something of the mated pair. Her thumb ran over the brother's cheek to brush tears away, fingers held onto the sister's grip. "Wish I was wrong. Wish it were complicated, so you could handle it easier. You're better at the twisty thinkin'." Having the house in order would be important, as a cold trail for intelligent prey might take months. The thief would die. No question on that. He stole a cubling and hurt her pack. But with the trail cooling, how to pick it up again? Tracking beasts were out of the question. Not without his scent to go by. Perhaps someone who hunted thoughts? Somethin' to think on.

In a way, Einsol understood the triplets. For her, Ushiwa was a part of her kept outside the body. His pain was hers, as their children might as well have been her own. She'd been there when they were born, and maintained her function by dreadful practicality. Breaking down here wouldn't much help matters. She could collapse into sobs later, once she wasn't so needed. "Okay. However you need t'do it. Can have my master leave instructions on Sae's treatment, in case I go with the hunters.

Should ask Terr? Maybe she knows someone what's good at huntin' or trackin' people. Seems like it'd be tricksy work."

Sae 9

She was idly drifting in and out of consciousness. She sighed deeply. The herbs and wet was helping to numb the pain of the burn. The stab wounds still burned like fire but it definitely felt better than it did when she could break it open by breathing alone.

Thank goodness Ein had been here. Malibu hovered contentedly and she stared at nothing until unconsciousness crept up again.

He knew it would be best to start looking as early as possible for their accoster but it also made him scared for Ein or himself to leave Sae at this vulnerable time.

"I hope your teacher comes soon. I don't think you should leave until they at least get here. I don't have the best skills with it either."

She was a great comfort to him at this trying time.

"Yes Terr might well know someone who has the skills we need. I'm sure once Dad gets back too it will be easier he is a great tracker."

The more people they could get the better.

Coming from someone else, that might have been an insult, something to note and ignore. Rather than be offended, her face tilted to one side, puzzled. Poor guy's more muddled than I thought. "Course I'm not gonna leave 'til there's help. 'Specially when I got extra hands around for lendin'. Stayin' right here, Ushi."

She'd been watching Sae's eyes carefully, only glancing up to her brother's face. Answers had been reasonably quick and concise for how much blood was lost. Most all oddities present lined up with a lot of missing blood, in fact. Unconsciousness could be allowed for now. The main worries would be infection, depth and angles of the punctures. They were grouped uncomfortably close together, which made conventional treatments tricky. A good thing her master knew some magic. Not something either woman normally trusted, but it was better to have the option on hand for these sorts of awkward injuries.

A short nod, bobbing her braids. "Papa's the best tracker for beasts. Good at thinkin' how they think, he said. Never heard anythin' about his huntin' our kind. Dunno how good he is at thinkin' like other people. Might need a couple pointers to start out."

Sae 10

Sae giggled at the thought of big scary dorky Kiyelt needing pointers on anything. It was a great notion though, Ein was probably right. The man dealt way more with wee beasties than people.

She winced as her mirth took a toll on her sensitive bits. Ouch. No more happy, no more sneezing just stillness.

"We...will...find...her.." She pat patted Einsol. Whichever part of her sister she could reach, she thought it was a hand.

He couldn't help but smile at his poor wife. She was so broken and derpy from lack of blood.

At least she was awake though that was a good sign. Malibu was ever present and probably would be until she healed which was great. He would let the healer through and the family and they were the only ones that needed to be around her in her most vulnerable state.

"Thank you Ein." He kissed her on the forehead. "I so appreciate you."

"Not long now. She'll be here as soon as y'need to use the privy. As soon as you open that door. Every time." It was the hand. With Einsol sat down near flush beside her patient, the hand was the first thing to grasp. A little to the left, and Sae might have patted something else, to more general confusion. A squeeze returned to the prone woman, and a nuzzle into her best brother's collar. "It's nice to be in time to hear that. We won't be too late."

The stable stank of blood, dung, and now a distinct whiff of burned meat. All of it overlaid by the musty smell of scales, dry fur, and herbs hanging about the ceiling. They kept more than herbivores in this one, secured by wood and iron. The peace of waiting creatures would end, and the quiet fall away to wrath. A cub of their blood was missing; their pack was wounded. But for just a little while longer, it could still feel like home.
