Ultear 1
They were over visiting Aunty Nin and Uncle Kiyelt. Ultear was excited to find that his two older male cousins were there , but they did seem to be bahaving a little oddly. They had a few bags and were tossed stuff back and forth and stuffing it in the bags. Stuff like you would need for traveling. He rushed over. "Going somewhere? Can I come?"

Thal smiled down at his new cousin, they might not be blood related but it sure looked like they were. He liked children and would definitely have done the same thing if their positions had been reversed.
"We are going hunting and you can come if you promise to be quiet, we might even do some taming, who knows?" He held his hand up for a high five.

Ushi 1
Ushi stared off into the distance for a moment. He didn't overly care that they had a youngling along. This would also be their first chance to get to know their young cousin, he stuffed extra sandwhiches for the kid. Good thing their Mom always cooked for an army. There miraculously were always leftovers, at least until midnight usually.

Well the elder of the two siblings was appropriately friendly, while the younger was very quiet, and did not seem to care whether Ultear went with them or not.
Interesting, he had thought he would have to fight more to get to come. "Yay!" Spring showers, a hunt and potentially some taming! He wondered where they would be going.

The youngling's exuberance was touching. He remembered doing the same when his parents would go hunting. It had been his favorite time of year. They would walk this one, they needed the exercise after a recent festival.
"Make sure you ask your Mom before we go, I don't want sweet Aunty Rista to turn me into sushi. I like life." He smiled. He was sure that Rista knew the question that was coming anyway.

Just to be sure Ushi let everyone knwo with a letter tacked to a tree where it would be seen that the brother's would be taking Ultear on a short hunting trip. There now there would be no panic. He too was somewhat afraid of Aunty Ris. She was awfully quick with those swords. He put on his backpack and buckled the belt pouches on.

He grinned, he was sure his Mother would say yes, plus he saw Ushi leave the letter. Then again he didn't want to interrupt his hunt if his Mom did have a problem with him going. So he made sure he got a nod from her before he left.
"All clear for fun!" He climbed on Ushiwa's backpack for the first part of the travel as it would be fast paced through the rough bush to get away from the people quickly. Less people more animals was how he liked it anyway.

He shouldered his own pack and flipped open his journal, recording the weather and conditions before they started. When he grew tired of taking notes Ushi would take over and Thal would take Ultear. They might find food or they might find a tameable beast, either way the information might come in useful at some point. Hunting as a team and sharing the load increased their chance for a successful hunt.

Finally they were off and he was pleased to find that the kid wasn't too wiggly, it made walking with his as cargo not as hard as it could be. "Well done." He murmured quietly as they crossed a particularly difficult area. This kid would make a find hunter so far. They made good time and as a reward too a quick rest at a stream where they could get water. He offered the little one a canteen.

Ultear glowed as the first words that his cousin had said to him had been positive feedback. He felt somehow like all three of them were bonded now as the boys of the bush. He wish that his Brother had come along on this adventure too. Eventually they all paused for a quick snack. Ultear climbed onto a mossy rock to nibble on his bread and cheese rather like a rodent. He was permanently hungry for snacks. Maybe he was going into a growth spurt!

Thallassa smiled at the pair. He would be taking the kid after the break. He felt like today had been good for both young men before him. Ushi could be a bit closed off and brooding sometimes, he might have known that the cure would be younglings.
"A fine young hunter we have, brother."
He winked and then flicked his long hair at Ushi.

Despite himself Ushi smiled, proving that he did not have a frozen heart.
"We shall see, we have to find something first." Because they were carrying the youngling they were able to move quite quietly. But sometimes it wasn't called "hunting" for nothing. They might not see anything on this trip, or they could come home with a full catch. For the kid's sake, he hoped they found something.

He stayed as quiet as he could, occasionally asking whoever was carrying him about interesting things he spotted in their surroundings. Soon enough their small troupe was deep in the forest’s heart. It almost felt like a sort of sacred place. The absence of anyone except themselves in a vast open wilderness. Despite this he felt quite safe. The two with him were quite imposing.

The youngling was doing quite well and they were able to stalk and successfully bring down some smallish game birds with arrows. He showed Ultear how to clean and pack them for the trip. He remembered his Father teaching him to do the same. Kiyelt still hunted but he preferred to take their Mother now, so they could spend some extra time together in the bush. It made his Mom happy.
She used all her meat gained from the hunters in the family to make one of the most wonderful stews.

Ushi enjoyed watching his brother and Ultear interact with each other. He could tell that Thallassa like him enjoyed kids. He hadn’t known about that until this trip though. The kid had stared asking really good questions that made him have to think and he realized how fun that was. It was refreshing because kids were interested in pretty much everything.
