He was in his office, updating his training records when a commotion of barking, whining, yowling, roaring and yelling announced the arrival of someone new on their families large plot of land.
Probably someone coming to get an animal trained or looking or commission a capture. He continued to write but a soft knock drew his attention upwards. He stood abruptly.
"Fang, to what do I owe the honor?"
He took the tiny pair of spectacles off of his nose.

He looked very attractive with those tiny spectacles on. She averted her eyes and bit her lip.
"Well, you are always the one saving me from the forge, I thought that I would return the favor. I heard that people were finding treasure by a river near here and I wanted to see if you wanted to maybe come with me?"
She was not very good at talking to people, had just started coming out of her shell. She hated asking people anything, but well this was sorta important to her. To be more extroverted, even if it was with just a select few people.

"Well it would be nice to get away form all of this paperwork." He glanced down at the stack. He was basically just transcribing notes from his journal into case specific files.
"This can be done later." He neatened up the pile by thwacking it on its edge on the desk.
He came around the desk.
"Lead the way Milady Wanderer."
His spirits had been more than brightened.

She grinned and led him outside. The air was bright and crisp, smelling of mid spring and all of the accompanying flowers in bloom.
"I heard that they had good luck up the river, some treasure hunters came by the sho and commissioned jewellery pieces with their finds, it was pretty neat to see the stones which had just been polished before arriving at the smithy." Like little gifts from nature.

"Sounds like a good plant to me." He was better at finding critters than treasures, but it owuld be fun and something new to try.
He would do a lot to be in her company. Especially after their wild sailscale date.
"The sailscale eggs should be hatching soon, I'll send word to you when they do."
He so had a plan.

"Oh, That would be fun to see. How do you knwo when they are close to hatching?"
She had been too busy stealing food and coin to survive when she was little.
She wished that she had had a childhood like Ushi had had.
Great parents who got to watch their children grow up.
Her heart squeezed. It still distressed her that she didn't remember much of what had happened to her family so long ago.
She put the thought from her mind.

"It is based on the hardness of the shell. As well as the amount of time since we collected them. There is also a rather cool method using a candle's light to see how big the embryo is.
I think that is my Mother's favorite par." He smiled at the memory of Nin's glee. "Well besides the hatching part that is."
The river had come into view up ahead, they paused on the bank looking for a good entrance place.

The river's edge was quite rocky. But perhaps that was a good thing. Maybe more treasure had gotten stuck in between them.
She all but vibrated with excitement.
"It would be so fun to make jewelery with something I find!"
She found a decent place and stepped reverently into the water. Feeling around with her hands.

He stepped into the river after her. It was a bit chilly this time of spring so he felt around the bottom with his feet.
It was a nice day to be outside and he was happy that she had dragged him out of the office.
Something rolled over when he poked at the bottom with his toe. Curious he submerged one arm to grab for the item.
He brought up an opal. It had great shine and clarity even raw as it was. He held it up to the sun.

She saw him bend over and bring something shiny up to the sun. She came over to him to peek over his shoulder.
"Ooh! Good find! Maybe your Mother would like a gem like that. I could mount it in a necklace for you back at the shop after you get it cut and polished?"
As it turned out that was the only thing they found the whole day of treasure hunting. She was mildly disappointed but she could always try again somewhere else and besides Ushi had found something good, so that meant treasure hunting was worth while. Maybe she could ask an actual treasure hunter for help next time.

"I think that is a grand idea Fang. It has been a long time since my mother has been spoiled by anyone besides Dad."
He hoped she would like it. "I'm sorry you didn't find anything." he said as they headed back to his house. "Please stay for dinner, I'm sure you are as hungry as I am, we were out there all day looking. Nothing like a bit of rice and stew you know?"

"Saeruin...my real name, I think you have earned it. I don't tell it to people lightly as it is one of the few things from my childhood that I remember. I was found in my parent's cabin alone. A tragedy occurred and I remember nothing of it, except my Mother's scream of rage." She still had nightmares occasionaly, in reference to that period in her life.
She hated Zena because of it, because of what it took from her.

He froze, forgetting the opal entirely. He felt like how he reacted to this news was very important.
"Thank you for trusting me with your real name. I know it must be important to you if you go by a pseudonym. I am honored."
He tucked the opal away and took her by the hand gently, so that she could break away if she wanted to.
"I have wanted to do this for a very long time."

She smiled and heat crept all the way up her face from where his skin met hers.
"It er...feels nice." She admitted blushing furiously. Somehow this very frowny man had winnowed his way into her inner circle where only a very few people resided. Only these people knew her real name.
She tried to lighten the mood and swung his arm back and forth playfully. She could be playful so long as no one but he was around to see.
She thought she saw the corner of his mouth quirk...just a little but it could have been a trick of the light.
