Staying still had never come easy to this little girl. Almost as soon as her feet touched the ground in the morning, she needed to be somewhere, anywhere that wasn't right here. It wasn't that she disliked her family's home. Far from it, she loved her house, and loved more being there. But sitting still was something the blue earthling struggled with. There was always something to do, something to see, friends to make! Sometimes the animals like her brothers, but more often she found herself attracted to people. So many people, and all with such interesting stories to tell! She couldn't get it all done just staying in one place, she needed to move!

And today marked a rare occasion to do just that for sunny Einsol. Today, her biggest and (maybe) bestest brother had agreed to take both twins along on his fishy boat. That meant ocean! In point of fact, one of the only ways she could reliably sit and be still was when looking at it. A relief to her parents and more responsible siblings, it had to be said. The ocean did all the moving she needed, so she could relax for a little bit. Right this moment, for example, she stood at the dock, holding her Ushiwa's hand and staring out to the horizon, where blue met blue.

Ushiwa 1

He held his sisters hand firmly, she was the only thing keeping his own excitement in. He wanted to go fishing so bad! It seemed like just a whole heap of fun. The best part was that he and his sister got to go together! It was better with more, especially his twin.

"Isn't it cool? I want a boat too when I get older." It might not be his full time gig but he would also be a fisherman, you know when he wasn't a beast charmer or ranger. Or in control of his force of men, he would naturally be their commander and they would follow his lead in war. He would protect his home with all that he had. He inhaled happily, the sweet and salty sea air seeming to make him a tad giddy.

"I bet you will catch a bigger fish than Thali."

He sister would have beginners luck on her side. Dad said that that was a real thing.

Thal 1
Thal was excited to go out fishing with his two youngest siblings. He couldn't wait to see what they would do when they grew up but for now he would get all the big brother quality time that he could. He loved growing up in a large family. Something was always going on, there was always an ear to lend and a shoulder to cry on. It was family at its finest.

"Okay you two, come aboard!" He waved and beckoned them forward.

He watched the two attentively as they came closer. Einsol's eyes seemed to almost glow against her dark skin and hair. She was so beautiful that he knew he would have a lot of scaring off of boys to do later.
Ushiwa looked like their father but with enough features of their mother to be quite balanced. It was so cool seeing their features in yet more faces.

He made the way for them to board.

"Where do we want to go? The rock ledge, the sea slivers or open ocean?"

The little girl may not have had a firm grasp over the benefits of walking over running, but somehow she wasn't hurried here. Ushiwa got her attention the moment he began to speak. The sea would still be there when she looked back. "Yeah! You could sleep out on the water an' everything! An' a sunrise out there would light up the whole world!" Her thoughts, contrary to her brother's, were not of adventure or glory. At least, not the same sort her twin fancied. For her, travel, discovery, seeing something wholly new carried that same sweet-cloud daydream appeal. That she might need to leave home for more than a day in the doing hadn't yet come into her head.

Bright golden eyes went round at the thought her brother planted. "Bigger than Thali? Some o' those were bigger than me! Didn't get to see yours, you said ya ate it." They stepped aboard when invited, skipping easily into the vessel and swaying to adjust to the sudden lack of solidity beneath them. Einsol was many things, including impulsive. Luckily, that didn't often bleed into inconsiderate. "Where've you two been yet? Don't wanna make ya see the same spot again." One destination was much the same as another, she was happy to be moving. And all of them involved the water, so it was sure to be pretty!

Ushiwa 2

"Actually it is my first time at actual sea, we have only fished off the shore, so I haven't been anywhere either." Ushi looked sheepish. Thallassa had decided that today he would take both he and his sister out, because he had said he was finally ready. Ushi was as excited as Einsol.

"The rock ledge is closest right? Dad showed me the map yesterday after I begged him. I like maps." he grinned. "Lets go there, its sheltered."

He raised his brows at Einsol, asking her if that was what she would like as well. Always, always consult your twin. He cared about her more than anyone.

His feet pattered on the deck, he couldn't stay still and tried so hard not to fidget, failing miserably.

He wanted to stand at the prow and stick his face in the wind and smell the freedom of the sea.

Thallassa 2

"Haha, you okay with that Einsol? Might not be a bad idea for our first joint venture all things considered." He didn't want anything to happen until they could handle it. Spoil them on fishing and he would have no buddies to go with him..he also would never hear the end of it from his parents. He did so strive to be a good son..most of the time. Once in a while he would pull a small prank or two. Lighten the mood so to speak.

Thallassa adjusted the sail and the boat lurched forward. "Off we go." He grinned at his siblings. This was so much fun.

The wind frolicked about and the sun caressed them gently with warmth and well being.

"You two can bait the hooks if you like. Just like Momma showed you."

That the open ocean wasn't their first choice was a disappointment, true. But they were still on a boat! And out on the water! Exploration had to wait for now. The thought squirreled itself away in her head, to be buried and uncovered at some later date. Many thought her a bit spacey, as she could drop a topic easily in favor of keeping up with the present. Thoughts set aside seldom left, though... "The shelf's okay! Gotta learn our way around the boat 'fore we can really take it anywhere." A look to each brother, and she leaned in Ushiwa's way. A small blue hand reached up to hide her mouth from their captain, and she pitched her voice lower, a whisper. "Wouldn't mind swimmin' back if we got shipwrecked, but I might get sleepy on the way. Don't think I'd float too good when I'm nappin'."

With her twin fidgeting towards the fore, she pulled him fore-ward and near to the rail of their small ship. On the way, her other hand snuck out and snatched up a set of hooks from the side. He kept all the smelly stuff up front, including the bait. While the boy-child put his face to the wind, the bright-eyed girl crouched down and got to work on one of the hooks. A small bucket just under a covering before the prow held their bait: something their papa called 'fish roe'. She didn't know where on the fish you got these, exactly, but there were tiny little nets beside them, since putting just one on the hook might be tricky. "D'you just stick one ball on the hook, or are we supposed to stick 'em to the netting or something?

Ushiwa 3

Somehow his twin always knew what he really needed, often before he realized it himself. The fresh air seemed to cleanse him of all worry and stress, he was left in a very relaxed and very happy state. He wandered over to where his sister was and gathered up his own dollop of roe and a little net thingy.

"Do we just stuff the eggs in the net? How do we close it?"

Lucky for them Thallassa often went fishing, he had even hired himself onto a local boat once in a while to make a bit of extra coin for shopping and stuff.

Ushiwa wondered if by the time he was old enough the boat would still hire on newbies.

His nose crinkled, the roe smelled a little funny.

Thallassa 3

Thal came over to the twins and demonstrated how to put a dollop of roe into the little net.

"Then you wrap the netting around the roe and insert the hook in a way that keeps it all tight. It should stay on there relatively well, sometimes with good roe you don't need the net. But it is easier to keep it on the line this way."

He had lost many a bait. And many a fish, but that was all part of learning, or so his Mother told him.

"Then you dangle it down until you hit the bottom then reel in a little so that it sits a small ways off the ground. That's where the fish like it."

Bright eyes blinked, looking from roe to brother, and back to the little blobs again. A little wrinkle creased her forehead as she tried to puzzle that one out. That they smelled like uncooked fish a bit made sense. What didn't was the words attached. These were eggs? Then why call it fish roe? The confusion, and the wrinkle, were laid aside when Thal began teaching. She would ask on the way there, when he wasn't showing them how to do something. Probably.

The twins had learned to bait hooks with bugs and fish meat, not with eggs yet, so they had some idea what to do. Mama was practical like that, even if her newest babies didn't take up fishing on their own. There were other containers for fishy-food, if these didn't work out. A curious little girl had picked the bait she didn't recognize so well. "So," she said to herself, "you make a pouch of it an' dangle it. Shouldn't we tie the net to the hook? Its knots are so tiny, must be hard to replace 'em!" But Einsol was a good girl most of the time. Once Ushiwa, the more experienced fisher between the two, got his started, she set to getting them wrapped and hooked as their elder had demonstrated. ...Not well, at first. Her knots needed work.

Ushiwa 4

Soon enough Ushi had gotten the little bag of bait properly cast out to meet its fate among the beautiful softly lolling waves which lapped the bow lazily. he sighed in contentment, there was something innately comforting about being on the water, though in a bad mood the ocean had complete control over whoever was foolish enough to challenge her during a storm.

He often used his time fishing to think about things, but now he was enoying watching his siblings work together in harmony.

"How soon until we catch something?" He was patient, but he was also quite young still and he had a tendency of getting antsy.

Thallassa 4

"One cannot really say when the first bite will come, or if it will come at all, which is why Mom and Dad teach us to hunt and gather as well."

Theirs was a very practical family. Mom was eternally afraid that her offspring would waste away and starve. Fat chance of that happening. For one thing there was always at least one sibling around to tagteam with. That was all they would ever need, just one other family member and they collectively became a problem solving machine. He was so proud. Then too, Einsol and Ushi were going to be power players in their own right. He couldn't wait. He was still unsure of his path but it would come to him.

Tongue sticking out to one side, she fiddled with the roe-pouch and hook. Thallassa's youngest sister knew she wasn't so good at tyin' stuff as her twin, so she settled on making lots of knots instead. Surely one or two would hold for long enough, right? One questionably secure tangle of netting later, and she had something ready to cast out, by her approximation. To a more experienced eye... it wasn't too likely all the bait would spill early. They'd come 'round to the cliffs sooner than she thought, and had to check behind her when Ushi lobbed his hook out. Didn't wanna hit their big brother with it; Momma said that they had to be careful about this, and Einsol didn't know how to fix cuts or deep pokes. (Bruises just needed some ointment.)

But he stood clear, and the she-twin took her cast, watching and waiting as the fisherman said. Little blue ears did what they were meant to, and she waited her turn to speak. "So this is kinda like the snares we set for ravvits, right? Only we're the rope an' holdin' the bait?" Giving that a moment to process, she weighed the fun of catching something and bein' on the ocean against having to sit still pretty much forever 'til something bit. "It's hard to see the fish. D'you know a way to see 'em comin', Thal?"

Ushiwa 5

Ushiwa stretched and relaxed into puddy at the thought of a good long sit. He resigned him to this bloblike fate only when fishing. Time to do some deep thinking. He stared off into the distance. Oddly, his thoughts seemed to slow and calm down. He found peace for once in his mind as he let his eyes rove the horizon and the itty bitty wavelets that splotted a merry tune off the wooden hull of the boat.

He was so happy here. "Good job with your lure Einsol! Yours was better than my first try."

Thallassa smiled. "Its really all about timing, if the fish are hungry it is the right time, its just that simple. I do know of a way to pass the time though.... Stories!"

"Traditions dictates that the stories can be real or made up so I will give both of you some time to think about it, while I too think of which tale I want to bring up."

Fishing was a long waiting game, but so long as their lure was far enough from the boat, noise would not matter.

"And if you don't feel like stories we could play some sort of game to your liking. This is your guy's day after all I'm just here as a guide."

He grinned and looked out to see, thinking of princesses and dragons, you know the most ancient of ancient tales.
