04.01.11 - Hanna accepts a chance at knowledge and abandons her old life.

Basic Profile: Civilian Hanna

User ImageTHE BASICS

Name: Hanna Agata Nowicki
Birthday: March 13
Age: 19 20 21 22
Gender: Female

Height: 5’4”
Weight: 125lbs.
Body Type: Lean but soft with a petite frame and subtle curves, almost boyish at a distance; a runner’s body.
Hair Color: Auburn
Eye Color: Gold

Distinguishing Marks: One thin black line is tattooed from the center of each eye down across her cheeks to her jawline. She also has a small tattoo of a sad fairy on the inside of her left ankle inspired by Amy Brown art, a trio of stars on the inside of her left arm, a dandelion erupting into birds high on her right shoulder, a Harry Potter-inspired tattoo on her left hip, and a few others. There is a hook-shaped scar behind her right ear from a bad fall when she was in the fifth grade.

Greatest Passion: Discovery
Greatest Fear: Normalcy

Personality: Hanna is an imaginative teenager with a penchant for delusions of grandeur and an obsessive need to feel special. This was spurned by a former life spent feeling like she was somehow more enlightened than everyone around her. She is decisive and cunning and would rather focus on practical solutions than hypothetical ones. For this reason, many gentler, kinder, patient people may think of her as a bit of a hard a**. Still, her mental flexibility is stellar and makes up for what she lacks in compassion and patience. She can accept any situation, bounce back, and adjust accordingly at the drop of a hat. Thinking outside of the box is not her specialty; it's her default mode. At the same time, she can easily be led on magnificent flights of fancy by virtue of this willingness to believe anything is possible and can be influenced by a fast talker with good logic. If you can properly explain to her why there is totally a dragon in the closet, Hanna is the type who might buy it and run with it wherever you tell her to go. Hardworking, open-minded, and a touch whimsical -- Hanna is the type of Hunter who loves her job and is keen to uncover even more mysteries of the universe as her training continues.

THE PAST

Hometown: Baltimore, Maryland, USA
Previous Occupation: Sophomore at the University of Maryland, majoring in Psychology and Creative Writing.

Family: Hanna is the oldest daughter to Richard and Anya Nowicki. She has two younger sisters, Krista and Dana, who she has never seen eye-to-eye with. While she scoped out graveyards and played pretend, they demanded cellphones and sought out boyfriends. By the time Hanna went off to college, she felt closer to the family cat than either one of them. Hanna's father ran a bakery, and her mother split her workload between the bank teller window and a bookmark store on Etsy. Her parents were hometown folks who wanted their daughter to go to the University of Baltimore and take over her father's bakery one day. Her resistance to their control and her fixation on the strange and morbid was a constant source of soreness.

When Hanna insisted on going to the University of Maryland, her parents told her they would not pay for it unless she started showing them more respect. So she took out loans and went anyway, talking to them once every month and only in the simplest of conversations. They loved each other, but they never really understood one another. It wore on their relationship more and more as Hanna got older.

The month before she was approached by Deus Ex Machina for the opportunity of a lifetime, Hanna learned that her father's bakery had gone under and that the Nowicki Clan was packing up and moving over to Poland to stay with Anya's parents for awhile. They asked Hanna to transfer universities and come with them. When she refused, her mother broke down and lashed out in anger, saying many hurtful things that burned in Hanna's mind. The last time she saw them was two days before their flight to Poland. She met them for lunch in Baltimore; her mother chose not to come.

Two weeks later, Hanna gave up on everything and accepted the chance, she thought, of a lifetime. She signed herself away to Deus Ex Machina. After she stopped showing up to class, Hanna's school alerted the authorities of a missing person: Hanna Nowicki. To this day, her parents believe that she fell in with a bad crowd and ran away. They flew back to the States to try and pressure local authorities to search for her, but after several months without a word, the case went cold. Her history of running away and hanging out with less than reputable characters did little to curry favor. While the rest of the Nowickis returned to Poland, Anya moved back to Baltimore alone, just in case Hanna ever shows up at their old family home again.

Basic Profile: Hunter Hanna

User Image

Category: Death, the "intelligence" operation in charge of gathering mission information and maintaining the network of Hunters.

Why did your human character choose to become a Hunter? Hanna has always been obsessed with the idea that the reality she knows is not the only one and that there are more twists and turns to the universe around her than can possibly be uncovered in a single lifetime. Her fixation on the unknown drove a wedge between her and the rest of her family, one that widened considerably when she moved away to a college they didn't want her to attend in a town that they considered to be Bad News. With a stronger tie to the pursuit of enlightenment than anything else, Hanna is the type of person who would sacrifice anything to learn the truth -- and so she did.

Fighting Style: Calculated. Hanna's weapon is large and bladed, but its weight makes it hard to stop once she has put it in motion, leaving her vulnerable to quicker opponents. Hanna hits slower than most, but she hits hard. Her greatest strength tends to be maneuverability of the Lady. She can twirl, toss, and block with it like it is an extension of her arm. Just like in her day-to-day, Hanna's fighting style is imaginative and out-of-the-box, sometimes to her own folly. She might see a hanging chain and dive at it, repelling down several stories to dropkick an enemy in the face -- or maybe she'll jump, fall, and break her leg. It could go either way.

Right now, Hanna and Adelphe are still learning to work together!

Preferred Training: Hanna likes running (with or without Adelphe in her arms) and agility exercises most of all. She tends to do a lot of her conditioning in the water. Most of her time spent on land is done with Adelphe in hand, attempting to toss the weapon into the air, cartwheel, and then catch it -- and various other very stupid things.

Basic Profile: Adelphe/The Lady

The Weapon
Name: Adelphe
Nicknames: The Lady -- as in, The Lady would like to have a word with you...
Type of Weapon: Twin blade
Unsummoned Form: A pair of bone earrings curved like the wing of bird. ([x])
Former species of weapon: Greek Siren, of the monster variety.
Gender: Female

Quote:
The Sirens might be called the Muses of the lower world, Walter Copland Perry observed: "Their song, though irresistibly sweet, was no less sad than sweet, and lapped both body and soul in a fatal lethargy, the forerunner of death and corruption." Their song is continually calling on Persephone. The term "siren song" refers to an appeal that is hard to resist but that, if heeded, will lead to a bad result. Later writers have inferred that the Sirens were anthropophagous, based on Circe's description of them "lolling there in their meadow, round them heaps of corpses rotting away, rags of skin shriveling on their bones."

Personality: Adelphe is a saucy lady, and she doesn't care who knows it. Unfortunately, Hanna is really the only audience she has, and so she spends the majority of her time talking the girl's ear off about how more people should be paying attention to her. The Lady is similar to Hanna in the sense that she believes she is an incredibly special creature -- and one that deserves praise, respect, and love. She is obsessed with the idea of being loved by others and is hungry for attention. If Hanna is rude to her, Adelphe will refuse to cooperate in battle, much like a petulant child. When the two are working in tandem, Adelphe displays an incredibly vicious, bloodthirsty side and takes pride in carrying Hanna through battles if need be. She is always convinced that she is right. Her favorite hobby is making Hanna uncomfortable during social situations by saying inappropriate, distracting things. In The Lady's mind, she is the ultimate femme fatale, and Hanna is just some little girl who is lucky enough to wield her. Below the surface, Adelphe craves greatness, even in the hands of a Hunter, and she secretly believes very strongly that she and Hanna are capable of really amazing things together. The Lady will become strongly acerbic to anyone who crosses Hanna. It's one thing for her to give Hanna a hard time -- but someone else? Unacceptable.

Greatest Passion: Notoriety/Attention
Greatest Fear: Obscurity/Abandonment

Weapon Ability: Flesh Eater (Battle Cry) -- When Hanna's weapon is charged, Adelphe calls on the cannibalistic aspect of her heritage. The wounds that Hanna deals cause double damage. There is the cut that she causes through her physical action and then the magical side effect that chips away at the flesh of a victim, doubling the size of the wound. Her charged weapon literally eats at the flesh that it strikes, widening beyond the normal scope of her attack. Without this charge, Hanna must settle for wielding her weapon like any other double blade. Typically, she fights with it as a single weapon, but the handle has a locking mechanism that can be separated. If she chooses to separate her twin blade, she may fight with one hooked blade in each hand. However, Hanna typically prefers to fight with it as one piece.

The Past: There was a time when Adelphe was a student at Amityville. She very rarely speaks about her past, and when she does, it is unclear whether she is telling the truth or lying. The Lady has a tendency to take advantage of the anonymity of her background in order to reinvent herself as a bigger, better person than she might have been before. She claims to be descendent of Aglaope -- one of the first sirens to ever rise to fame.

In her descriptions of the past, Adelphe paints herself as a beautiful, well-loved girl who impressed every teacher and charmed every peer. The picture unravels sometimes when the Lady can't keep her story straight. She will accidentally divulge an anecdote about being picked on, or about failing a particularly nasty assignment. She has even let it slip that she did have a mother who was not Aglaope, but was instead constantly belittling her daughter and comparing her to her fourteen sister sirens. In these brief glimpses, Adelphe reveals the truth about her past: she was unliked, uncared for, and unnoticed by most everyone.

Until now, with Hanna.

To be added: likes/dislikes, potentially get some art of old monster Adelphe and someone to redraw her as a weapon.

PERSONAL EFFECTS

Books – (RIP Beloved Kindle)

Out of all the remnants from the life she had before, reading is the main indulgence that Hanna continues to keep up with on the island. Without a Kindle to keep her company, she has settled for ferreting away a very small sampling of the library she once kept stacked all over her apartment in Baltimore. She stuffed a handful of books into her bag before shipping off to the island, tossing extra shoes to the wayside. Her taste is largely eclectic, but with a definite trend toward the dark and dystopian, whether fiction or nonfiction. (She has no idea what this “Twilight” you are talking about is, but would you like her to recite her favorite passages from A Clockwork Orange?) In addition to the novels she brought along and keeps displayed on her bookshelf, Hanna also has paperback copies of all of the Harry Potter books with her, but they are stored under her bed to avoid ridicule regarding her delusional Hermione Phase during the testing period of her enrollment in Deus Ex Machina.

Journals – it’s like a scrapbook with no pictures!

Prior to her enrollment, Hanna was a big believer in the art of journaling. She was of the opinion that her own thoughts and views were special, unique, and worthy of recording compared to the average teenager. Now that it is part of her training regiment, journaling has become one of her passions. She keeps her journal with her at all times and organizes them in chronological order on the bookshelf in her room. There is one journal that she keeps in her pillow case for some of her more private thoughts. Currently, Hanna is under the delusion that her superiors do not know about it.

Music Box - iPod, schmiPod!

The only trace of her family is kept in a single music box. It has a mahogany lacquer with a glass overlay protecting a thin wood-carved scene of the view from her grandmother’s country home in Poland. Her grandfather carved it for her before she was born, but he passed away before he could give it to her himself. When opened, the box plays a soft melody that served as Hanna’s lullaby as a child. She barely remembers the words, and even if she did, they are in Polish – a language familiar to her parents, not her. Inside, the box has plush silver padding meant to serve as a place for jewelry. It has been refurbished as a ‘bedroom’ for Adelphe when she is in her unsummoned form. The bottom panel of the jewelry box has a secret catch that when properly shifted allows the top portion to lift free. In the secret compartment, Hanna keeps a photo of herself with her two younger sisters, her mother, and her father from Christmas two years ago. She chose to leave her family behind for a greater purpose willingly, but she is still afraid to forget they way that they look.

POINT SYSTEM

The default word requirement for points is 800. GMs may require either more or less in their classes and events, and may also award growth points differently, so always read the first and last GM posts thoroughly.

1 point can be:

- One piece of fanart drawn by you for anything related to shop (max 5 points this way)
- One complete regular rp
- One full solo rp
- One gm-modded event with point prizes (to be linked), where you included your character
- One complete classroom/mission rp
- One complete homework assignment
- One complete battle, with just rolls

2 points:

- One complete 'battle' roleplay with filled out roleplay actions
- Character 'plot assistance' (ie for events)

GROWTH REQUIREMENTS

Intermediate:

75 points + a private mission assigned by their senior

Advanced:

150 points + a private mission assigned by their senior

Intermediate and advanced students are allowed more leeway with missions, and also gain harder assignments and roles. Advanced Hunters missions might also include helping train or oversee beginner Hunters

HUNTER CATEGORIES

Moon/Sun - Does the 'hands on' operations, more tied to execution of missions, attacking, assaulting, defense, repair, and guarding work. Moon is related more to repair/rescue and defense while sun is related more to offense.

Death - The "intelligence" operation, in charge of gathering information and maintaining the network of Hunters. They gather the information prior to a mission.

Life - Related to "research", including research specifically OF Halloween, its specimens, and ultimately Fear and the abilities of Fear and Hunters.

Mist - The group that does not have one specified role but fills in for everyone. A jack of all trades master of none group, they are usually asked to take missions from all four categories, but as a result do not get "specialized field" missions.
