The final string snaps, and the dream fills back up around her.

She'd thought she resented the Death division (not its members, but rather what it did to them) before. But now it had reached a near constant simmer in the back of her mind whenever Konstantin had to go on a shift and these days anything that took his presence away so often and for so long was nothing she held any fondness for. If he'd been in Moon still, they'd be able to work together and they worked ******** amazingly together. They got s**t done.

As it is, she just had to make the best of what time they did have. Finished with her own duties, the girl loitered near the Death offices, waiting for him to leave so they could work on their little garden the rest of the day. The door opened and she turned to pounce him, to demand a piggy-back ride, to tell him all the things she'd done that day, to pointedly not ask about his own division-specific but everything else, instead.

Wrapping her arms around him she looked up to find Caelius's face staring down in a terrible mix of boredom and rage. The scythe came flashing down, and this time nobody was there to stop him.

She walked down the hall, though she didn’t recall why or how she’d found it. Odd how that didn’t seem to matter.

A door. She couldn’t have said right then if it was familiar or not, for it was and it wasn’t. The important thing was the door was closed, locked.

But she wasn’t alone in the hallway. Next to the door were two figures.

They spoke.

Sherry…didn’t understand. Who? What dreams? What nightmares? Who was not sleeping? Who would be sleeping? She shook her head, wondering.

The door was kind enough to open.

Beyond it was another. This one she recognized- a figure from a dream, an impression on her mind. She spoke, telling her sleep, telling her to stay.

I’m sleepy. Sherry knew the thought was redundant, because she could feel that she was sleepy. Telling herself that she was sleepy was silly.

Something else came with the feeling of tired. Another feeling. A feeling that grew like the shadows. Caused by the shadows. Shadows weren’t supposed to move like that. When they did… Fear tugged at her heart. Cold and dark, sending a chill down her back. She didn’t want to—

A voice broke into the pulled her back, broke the spell that was sending her down into a dark dream she didn’t want to be in.

Sherry saw then, blinking her eyes she actually saw the world around her. Strings, a web of strings. Cobwebs, like a spider’s. Strings, meant for puppets. She’d seen puppets in another dream. She had not seen strings then.

Wrong. This was wrong. She was trapped here, in this web.

The voice told her to cut. To break free.

Sherry desperately wanted to. She did not want to stay in this web, she did not want to be tied to these dreams. Even now she could remember them, happy ones, nightmares. Countless dreams. Never ending dreams. And she would stay here forever dreaming if she did not break free.

She didn’t remember summoning her weapon, but she held it in her hands. One slice, and the blade cut. Translucent strings fell away, fading from sight as they did.

Not all of hers strings fell away. Some still clung, still tried to entangle her. She knew she had to be rid of them. She had to be free of them, of her.

So she swung again. Her blade cute, sliced through the strings, and they almost seemed to glitter as they fell. Little sparks of light trying for one last shimmer before she strings were lost to the shadows, lost to sight.

She was free.

---

She didn’t need to put the necklace on, she ALWAYS wore that. The necklace and the ring. Even Armagnac came off from time to time, those two, no, they were always on. “Hrm,” she said, musing over the pieces of jewelry on her desk.

Really, she ought to get a proper vanity. She had the room for it now. She had room for a lot of things, in fact. Maybe…

She picked her earrings first. That was easy; she went with the leafy ones. Such delicate things, so pretty and sparkly, like- Sherry looked down at her hands. She held the earing she’d tried to put in place, and… blood. Flesh. Her earlobe had… She looked in the mirror. Yes. Her earlobe had ripped. So easily she almost hadn’t noticed.
That was…that was not good. Carefully, she placed the earring and the bit of ear on the desk. “Why?” What on earth had caused that to happen? Well, she clearly needed to be more gentle. And perhaps she would forgo the rest of her jewelry.
She rubbed at her eye, for it itched, and blood welled up there, too. “No,” she said. That couldn’t’ be right. That should not happen. She poked at it. A bit of skin the size of a nickel fell right off her cheek. Bone lay underneath. Bone she could see.
”Bones.” Something in her mind seemed to whisper it. She shuddered.
“I just won’t touch anything.” Right. That would fix it all.

Instead. It was high time she went to find Jake. Luckily, her hands seemed to have no issues as she opened the door. Even more luckily, Jake’s room was just a few paces down the hall. One swift knock on his door, and he was there, opening it for her. He didn’t even seem to notice the wrongness with her face.
“Jake,” she said, deciding not to beat around the bush with this, “I think it might be nice if we, uh, moved in together.”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” he said. “In fact. I don’t think you should talk to me again. Ever.” He shut the door.
Sherry just…stared at it. After a time, she felt something we on her cheek. She didn’t know if it was blood or tears. She didn’t really care.
---
Nightmares. She hated nightmares.

One by one the strings sever, and the truth, ugly and naked is revealed. For some it would be a longer journey, for others just a simple desire.

Tenya was screaming by now. It wasn't just his life. It wasn't just himself he put in danger by doing nothing. She was there too. He had to be responsible for her, just as she took care of him all these years.

He felt he had no strength, so once again Tenya was the one providing it by means of a weapon. With a lackluster swing, he severed half of the strings that held him.

Jake only stared at the two figures, not quite sure what to believe anymore. On one hand, he had seen enough strange things that part of him told him not to dismiss this as just a dream, but... then... what was reality? Where did he draw the line between real and make-believe?

As the figures stopped talking and the door opened, he only stared dumbfounded at the tiny girl before him, vague recognition at the stringless puppet. But as she spoke, things made less and less sense. He felt fatigued, everything around him warping. He wanted to just sleep. He wanted to get away from this nightmare, but something, or someone called out to him, alerting him to his senses.

In that next moment, he found himself bound, string around his arms, hands, legs and feet.

He didn't understand. There was so much he didn't understand, but one thing he DID know. He hated being manipulated.
All his life other people were pulling the strings, as he was yanked back and forth, unable to control his own fate.

Well. Not anymore.
Gritting his teeth, he pulled at the strings, and with one swift motion, severed them.

He fidgeted with his hands, embarrassed. No. Ashamed. He shouldn't have gotten mad like that, over something so trivial, and he only hoped she wouldn't hold a grudge against him for it. She... wouldn't, right? No matter what he did, she still forgave him, and so, if he just showed how sincerly sorry he was, she'd just smile and forgive him just as she did before, right?

She was smiling, that same usual timid sweet smile he was so used to seeing. And then she opened her mouth, but instead of words, was a tongue. And teeth. Sharp razor-like teeth that shouldn't belong in a human's mouth. She was grinning, cackling, and she pushed him down with one hand- no, claws, and as he struggled, gasping for breath, she only stood over him, a wicked gleam in her eye as her tail swished back and forth lazily.

"That's right. You were forgiven, over and over again. But now... it's too late. I'm sick and tired of excuses. I'm sick and tired of you.

"P-please..."

"You know what? Mm, it's better if you just died, yes. I deserve so much better."

"So... die."

Life hadn't been the same since they all left Wonderland. Even Rhiannon could feel the side effects, her dreams becoming twisted and ever-shifting into nightmares and back again. And then there were the dreams like this one, the ones that revealed things she had never experienced, let alone heard of.

There were two figures and a door. The figures had felt powerful to her, the kind that were all-knowing, probably as old as FEAR itself, and yet she was not afraid of them. They explained it all to her, how she had to break free, that something did not want to leave, that she had helped create her, that it was up to her to where she had come.

Then she stepped through the door...

... and faced her. Alice... the AI that had guided them all through Wonderland. But what was she doing here? The doll shrunk away from her, her voice terrified and small.

"I know why you're here, but I don't want to. I don't want you to leave me. I want you with me at all times. I learned so much in Wonderland and I can help you, I can help you change things, I can give you everything you want. All you have to do is sleep and never wake up, all you have to do is sleep and stay with me."

Ri considered it greatly. She remembered how powerful as she had felt, how... wonderful the dream had been. But even as the dream played, she could also remember the terrible nightmare: feeling trapped, caged, close to becoming a sacrifice. She shook her head at Alice.

"I'm sorry, but I can't. I won't go back to that nightmare again."

The shadows swarmed and the walls closed in to swallow her, just like before.

"Not now."

And her body jumped, waking her out of the dream-- only to end up in a new kind of nightmare.

At least, she thought she was awake. Rhiannon struggled against the strong spiderwebbing that immobilized her as hard as she could, but it was no use. Even if she had managed to free herself, the webbing was everywhere, intent on keeping her there for as long as its owner wanted.

"Cut the strings, break free."

It was that voice again. Still, she obeyed it, summoning her wand into her hand and trying her best to aim it right at the strings above her. But she hardly had enough time to practice using it, and the black bolt of magic only cut a few strings.

Cadence wasn't really paying attention to the two figures who where talking, it was the door that had her attention. The door that she had scene before, in that dream, in Wonderland. The door opened and Alice was there cowering back, it seemed all the bravado she had in wonderland was gone. Cadence was about to say something when she was hit by a wave of fear that caught her voice in her throat, shortly after a wave of exhaustion hit her and she felt very tired.

"Not now." the voice echoed though her head and snapped her out of the lure of sleep. awake again she noticed that she was warped around by strings she growled at Alice. She would be no ones puppet. Cadence summoned her scythe and attacked the strings.

[[ Hamika - Dream Vision ]]

She opened her eyes and stared at her notebook. Right, she really need to not fall asleep so much. Others would start to call her "the walking sleeper" if she kept it up! The zombie ghoul pushed herself up onto her elbows, kicking her legs behind her. She didn't often leave her dorm room, but when she did she liked to sit on the lawn in the sun and watch the ones around her. She took notes, telling stories about people she'd never met or didn't know. It all never left her note book, but it gave her enjoyment. That was what mattered right?

"Rawrrarw."

"Exactly notebook, ex--- The Jack?!" She stared down at her notebook as the thing wormed itself out of her grasp and flapped it's pages at her. It floated around, spitting shards of paper at her in it's apparently... frustration.

"Rawrrorararowrweraraooor."

Hamika stared at it and tilted her head. "Can you not... speak?" It spat more pieces of paper at her, like a tongue.

"Rawrrawr rawr rarw raaaawwrrrwrarwr." It clearly wanted something from her, but what exactly Hamika had no idea. She went to poke it and attempt to console the poor thing into some semblance of kindness.

"RAWR." So obviously it bit her in the hand. She yelped as it pulled a good section of her flesh away and then consumed it. She flicked between the hand and then the notebook who was licking it's... pages? and back again half a dozen times.

"You... you bit me! Why did you bite me?" She was oddly calm for all of this. Entirely too calm, actually. The notebook did a few flips in the air and then spat something back out at her.

It was a little shiny pen. She caught it and blinked. "What ... do I do with this?"

"Become a magical girl! Just sign right here....!" It then spit out something that looked like a contract. She blinked at it, and attempted to read the text on the contract. It was in some garble of symbols she didn't understand but the giant X and the line at the bottom she did. "Just sign your name at the bottom and you can become a magical girl~"

She seemed to ignore the weird flat eyes that the notebook developed.

"Do I have to?" she asked it, eyeing the line.

"Don't you want to be powerful and protect your friends?"

"Well yes but---"

"Don't you miss the power of the Cheshire Cat?"

"Well sort of yes--- wait how do you know a---"

"THEN SIGN THE CONTRACT AND BECOME A MAGICAL GIRL." The notebook shoved the contract in her face. It shoved those beadly little eyes in her face too.

Hamika gulped and signed the contract with the pen.

"You are now a magical girl! Fight, but don't be overcome with your grief or something bad might happen to you~" The notebook then just sort of did a few spins and vanished, leaving Hamika dressed as a very cheshirey magical girl in the middle of the lawn.

"Uh... what just happened...

She spent many days fighting off evil as Magical Girl Hamika, until one day when she just sort of keeled over and dissapatted, never to be seen again.

How sad.

He'd done it - he'd finally organized his scraps chest! Everything was neat and easily found: thread and hanks of coloured twine, swatches of cloth in an array of colours and textures. His tail twitched with satisfaction, but just as he was closing the lid, something caught the corner of his eye.

The Grue turned and frowned, there shouldn't have been anything in the room but him, Mawz and Mr. Snappy (who were curled together on Mr. Snappy's bean-bag). And yet...there! There it was again! A skittering sound, a sneaky sound --

Suddenly he found himself drawing his blade from Wonderland, it fit in his hand like a welcome friend; the creature came from the shadows, eyes luminous and hissing. Snapdragons?! Not in his dorm room!
