There was really no reason for Lydia to be traipsing around outdoors at Deus at this time of night. She wasn't on twitter (yet) and hadn't heard anything about the meteor shower (she was still just adjusting to the fact that she was awake and here and all of it was still a lot to take in).
Yet there she was. Sliding along the ground in flat slippers, eyes closed, glasses perched on the tip of her nose as she seemed to almost be...dancing around in the humid night air. She was lost in her own little world, humming to herself, not noticing the voices of those who were grouped together, watching the evening sky and it's streaks of light.
And then she tripped on something. It might have been a rock. It might have been somebodies protruding foot, it might have been the edge of a blanket.
All that was really certain was that she was going down, and there was a good chance that she was going to end up falling on top of somebody.
Anybody
if anybody wants a lydia falling on them, just quote me >_> if not I'll assume she hit the dirt when I post again~

"Noah! Long time no see. Still want to grow your own cannabis, then?" he ribbed his fellow Lifer with a grin. "Wouldn't blame you." He was unaware there was something going on with Peyton, so her own greeting was a bit surprising--but then again, considering how desperately she wanted a date before, a boyfriend wasn't that much further up the ladder. Even his encounter in the other world had been . . . something else."Really wouldn't blame you," he added in an undertone with that in mind, draining his mug swiftly and wondering when--
Ah, there we go. Jack motioned for Oliver to sit before he took the second mug. "Not every night you get a meteor shower," he told him in a strangely congenial tone, despite the ensuing words. "Take a seat and take a break from the whole 'poodle with a bladder infection' schtick. Getting a little old now." He was about to twist his second brew open and point out a constellation for starters--
--when someone promptly fell on him.
The good news: no coffee was harmed. The bad news: their heads had collided.
A sharp "What the ********> pierced the heavens. Jack was flat over his coat, mouth full of blue hair and a little dizzied. the former was the only reason he didn't start cursing Chel's name.

Rin showed up just in time to miss all the talk of plants and gardening and and... yes, even the cannabis and fun bodies hitting each other. She scanned the crowd and after spotting Melvin approached from behind and swooped in to place her hand on his shoulder. "Hey," she spoke in a soft hush as she sat down at his side directly on the turf. "Did I miss any of the fireworks?"

Oliver had begun to recognize some faces around the island, but other than Jack, the only familiar one at the gathering was that one girl from the orientation. She seemed to have another smile for him, and he wasn't sure if that should reassure him, or simply make him more nervous.
But he didn't have too long to dwell on it.
The young Life trainee stared blankly at Jack for a split second once the mug was out of his hands, and wondered if he had fallen asleep somewhere between the coffee pot and the training grounds. This was the friendliest Jack had ever been since the whole "welcome to Deus" thing. This time the kid made a promise to himself that he wasn't going to cry this time because Jack was being nice. Even if he was really just dreaming up the whole thing.
His original plan to go back to bed was abandoned, since he couldn't very well say no to Jack... And with one more nervous glance around the group, including the rather silent stranger lurking behind them, he took a seat.
For two seconds, things went very well. He was sitting, and Jack wasn't looking too displeased, and then everything exploded and suddenly there was... a girl. Oliver yelped and leapt backwards, away from the other Life hunter and his 'assailant'.

This last time that Hanna watched a meteor shower had been drunk in a graveyard. Even though she was not normally one for drinking, she had convinced herself that altering her reality would be an Important Scientific Experiment about whether her suspicions about otherness were actually founded. (In truth, it ended up with her sloppily kissing her very gay friend Andy and then puking behind a headstone for Martha Boggs, Beloved Sister, 1954-2009.) Like the majority of her trials with drugs-slash-alcohol, that hadn't worked out so well, but now that she had been given a chance to peek behind the curtain by Deus, she was getting back on the horse, so to speak, when it came to meteor showers.
The darkness in the sky was a comfort to Hanna. Before Deus, she had decided to brand herself as different -- even going so far as to getting face tattoos inspired by The Crow. She decided to prove her differentness by doing creepy and dangerous things, which almost exclusively happened at night. Now that she actually had confirmation that at least some fraction of the things she hoped (and feared) were real actually were, the darkness had not been as comforting.
But whatever. Meteor shower. That s**t was cool.
After hearing a few people mentioning a get together at the training grounds, Hanna slipped a purple hoody and black skinny jeans and darted out to join the fray. She noticed Peyton immediately -- blonde hair with pink had that effect -- but the girl was flanked by others. It made Hanna unsure of herself so instead she settled for attempting to catch Peyton's eye and offering a lame wave in her direction.
Pulling out her phone, she shot out a quick text to a new Hunter who had beaten her in a spar (tear, tear) and thereby inspired Hanna to hang out with her more:
nesshime
Text to Cami: Come to the training field. Not for a rematch this time. Meteor shower! There is glowing sky s**t to ogle. Don't be a square.
Most of the other gathered Hunters were unfamiliar to her so Hanna pulled up her hood, plopped down on the ground, and tucked the spare blanket she had brought along under her head. It felt like a party, minus the alcohol, and Hanna idly wished she had some. It might make her feel a little less awkward about the whole not-really-knowing-people thing.
Until then... OH LOOK PRETTY THINGS IN SKY.

Someone had touched him.
Or, to be more precise, someone had knocked into him, physically brushing against him in his haste to move away from whatever it was that had spooked him. Alistaire made a soft sound of annoyance, brushing a hand down the front of his coat and attempted to breathe a little more steadily, his eyes narrowed.
"Kindly pay attention to where you're going," he told the younger hunter, eyes moving across his pale freckled face, a scrutinizing look in his gaze. "Wouldn't want anyone bumping into the wrong person, after all."

A twitch of brows followed Jack's greeting to her boyfriend, and she turned a narrow-eyed look up at the giant of a lifer before issuing a soft, impatient huff under her breath. His commentary had a bristling effect, but she wisely chose to ignore him, instead reaching out to lace her fingers with Noah's. Jack was a pain in the a**, a constant that she felt unlikely ever to change.
"That's Rin," she informed her boyfriend, smiling as she pointed towards the dark haired woman that had moved next to Melvin.
She turned her attention skyward, watching for any streaks of light, but was distracted by the sound of a crash and Jack cursing. Seems someone had fallen over the lifer, someone she didn't recognize. She had to fight of a smile, Jack might have deserved the bump on the head, but the poor girl that had tripped over him certainly hadn't. "You okay?" The question was both of them.
Oh look, Hanna!
Peyton returned the wave before patting the blanket beside her, opposite Noah. "Come, sit." She grinned, sliding a little closer to the young man on her other side to make room.

Her eyes had flown open the second she had begun to topple, a startled yelp escaping her. There was a flash of green in her vision, green hair, green eyes, both of which were flying towards her at an alarmingly fast rate before....
Thunk!
"Oh ohhhhhhhhhhohohohohh owwwwwwwwwww." She moaned, though it actually hadn't hurt so much as it had been quite jarring to have had her head collide with somebody else's. It made her dizzy, and it took her a moment to realize that whoever she had hit had fallen backwards, and she had followed, her head still pressed against his, her hair all over the place, falling out of it's ponytail, curls sticking out in all directions.
"So sorry. Sorry. Sorry, sorry." She placed a hand on what she assumed were shoulders (wow those were very firm hello), pushing herself up just enough to blink down at the man, the very good looking man, that was cursing to the heavens. Her glasses were askew, but she could still see what was right there in front of her, and instantly, her face began to flush pink.
"Sorry." She meeped again, this time scrambling to to get out of his face, pushing herself back so that she ended up sitting on his legs instead. There was a voice asking if they were okay...or she could assume it was directed at both of them, at least, and she nodded, a bit rapidly, as wide startled eyes took in the group she had, apparently, found herself falling into.
"......................So sorry. Ummmm so hey! What are you all up to!" Her face broke out into what seemed to be a tentative smile, a hand reaching up to begin tucking fly away pale blue hair back into place, though the action itself seemed completely futile in nature.
Did she forget she was still sitting on somebody?
....Possibly.

Without otherwise bothering him in a way that might steal his attention away from the stars, Mimsy reached to silently put her hand on top of Robert's. She returned to the conversation without speaking to him or squeezing his hand; it was enough already, she thought. Just a reminder.
"Melvin and Peyton are correct," she finally added, brushing grass off of her coat with the back of her free hand. "The island is not lost, however. That is a bit silly, considering the fact that we are currently inhabiting it!"
Her jokes were still not very funny, even when the stars aligned. Or fell, in this case.
"The shield kept the fog in, I should note, though I am not sure why, or if it was simply an unfortunate side effect. The fog itself contained evident traces of Insanity, and made agriculture especially difficult, as both FEAR and Insanity threatened to infect the soil and plant life." The tone she used while describing the history of the fog was one that would have been better suited for a spooky campfire tale, but there was no scary end to her story. She looked towards the steady stream of apologies instead, and tried to wear another friendly smile.
"Greetings, new acquaintance! We are 'up to' what is up!" Very helpfully, she pointed towards the sky. "The annual Lyrid meteor shower is at is peak tonight!"

"Cannab - w-wha?" Noah yelped. "I didn't, I never, what?" He gave Jack a mildly horrified look. Apparently the thought had genuinely never crossed his mind.
The kiss hello Peyton offered him calmed him down, though, and he shyly slipped an arm around her waist, though he still seemed slightly tense, and when someone tripped and fell on top of Jack, Noah jumped. "Is. Um, is everyone okay?"
"Yeah. She proposed for funding a year ago and it's doing rather well. She has quiet the green thumb." He informed Noah, taking a sip of his coffee before looking up at the sky.
It was then that he felt someone touch him and suddenly tensed, spinning around just in time for Rin to speak to him. He breathed out and his shoulder's slacked a bit. "No. None yet." He patted the free space between his legs where he was sitting on his coat. "I thought you might be sleeping by now." Rin usually woke up earlier when Melvin was still sleeping in, but they usually caught each other mid day to evening. She was trying to get him to sleep at a normal time though.
"Oh, that guy over there wants to talk to you about your greenhouse. You might get some free assistance." He informed her, pointing to Noah. [

Rin gave Melvin a look for his offer. But after a sigh got up and then sat right back down again where instructed. She shuffled a bit before leaning back into him. Stupid big spoon had better behave. "Neh, this is a special circumstance."
She followed Melvin's finger clear over his shoulder until she spied who he was pointing at. She waved at Noah and shouted over at him, "if you're serious I hope you're ready to get absolutely filthy!" He would be stuck doing so much digging.
"I don't mind dirt!" Noah called back to Rin, brightening at the thought of getting to do some planting and garden work. "I'd really like to help."
He gave Peyton a bright-eyed, excited grin. Science.

He smiled and looked over to Noah. "Oh, and if you work very hard, maybe I'll even bring cookies." He hadn't seen Noah before and could only assume he was new. New blood that wasn't informed about Lifers and their offers of free food.
Melvin was getting good at baking cookies as per the instruction of some Lifers, who were sharing recipes on which foods best masked what components. If Rin was going to get a helper, he didn't see why he couldn't use said helper for his own projects.
He leaned to speak into Rin's ear, tempted to just blow on it. "So, are you here for the meteors or for a wish?"

"Noah already knows not to eat treats made by Life hunters, Melvin." It was meant in jest, and her smile reflected that. Unaware how terribly close to home that comment might have struck.
she gave Noah's a knee a fond pat as she returned his grin. Excited for him. She knew he'd been wanting to get back into agriculture somehow, and now he had the chance.
