Takera (clone) smirked as Orsai frowned and prepared himself. Takera (clone) glanced back at Averus for a moment. He seemed to be taking delight in the situation for some reason. It was then he'd notice that water was moving toward Averus and himself from Shun. He returned his head forward as he heard Shun's remarks. Planning to use me as a bargaining chip, hunh? Takera (clone) thought to himself. Continuing to listen as Shun overglorified his collection and belittled Takera, he pulled feint relaxed.
Suddenly leaning in and concentrating chakra to his feet, Takera (clone) leapt forth by surprise at the lapse in Shun's final statement. A leg thrust forth that would have collided squarely with the side of Orsai's head had Grant not reached out and blocked the shot with his hand. The man wasted no time in clasping Takera's (clone) leg and pulling him straight off the ground into the air. Takera (clone) was taken aback by the relative ease that he was being rag dolled as he floated but only for a moment in the air. Grant hurled him off to the side onto the ground. Takera (clone) landed on his shoulder and practically bounced, flipping over and landing face down sliding a few feet farther. The clone winced as he staggered to lift himself up. He was left watching on as things heated up.
------------------------------------
Takera heard the commotion as the resounding thud of his clone bouncing off the floor reached him. That can't be good. I feel the clone slipping. Takera thought to himself as he rubbed his chin lightly. We cannot afford to let them know that it is a clone. I'll have to keep an eye on Zarathos, but right now I need to keep up appearances. Takera thought to himself as he sat down under the window and crossed his legs neatly. Placing both of his hands together to form a familiar seal, he closed his eyes. Takera took the opportunity to reinforce the singular clone while remaining out of sight and unharmed. If all went well the clone would last at least as long as he could normally. This would be Takera's first real game of attrition since his recovery. Faltering would not be an option.

Grant shook his head as he looked to Shun. “It is unfortunate, but orders are orders, and despite having to possibly destroy all these fine arts, we must follow them.”
Grant then lifted his arms and quickly did several hand signs in rapid succession, and placed his hands on the floor. A burst of earth then surrounded him, and soon he was encased in hard, dark brown stone. Two eye holes and several holes where a mouth would be was on his head, and the only noticeable weakness to his stone armor was that the joints had less armor on them than the rest of his body.
Standing tall as he looked at the group, Orsai then prepared himself as well. Taking off his cloak, he showed off the dark metal samurai armor that was underneath, and his katana at his side. Drawing his blade, it ignited in a blaze of blue before it soon covered the metal, extending out a few inches as the sword tip.
As Takera made his attempt first, Grant lifted a stone hand to block his kick, before tossing him back with a counter. Orsai took this moment to then dash forward rather quickly at Averus, bringing his blade up in a strike motion with two hands on the hilt.

Averus Ikaru
Averus watched on as Takera attempted to strike at Orsai before they could react, but failed as Grant blocked the attack with his tone armored hand, before throwing Takera away. Averus turned back in a panic to watch his comrade land hard and bounce off the ground before sliding back. He had no time to go to his aid, however, as he turned to see Orsai running at him. However, it was seeing Grant suddenly jump into the air easily, despite the amount of weight he had on him, and land right near Takera before slamming a hand down on him.
Averus gritted his teeth as he was distracted by the loud noise of the attack, and Grant moved his hand away, revealing that the armor was now gone, and the heavy stone gauntlet was now pinning Takera down. This distraction was all Orsai needed as he struck with his blade, the metal biting into his arm, leaving a shallow cut along his forearm. Averus took a step back as he yelled, the pain exploding in his arm as warm blood began to run down it, trickling to the ground. Orsai went back into a guarding stance, his eyes looking at Shun now as Averus was taking a few steps back to try to think of his options.

Shun sighed heavily and slide backwards, leaning downward as the senbon he had hidden reappeared between his fingertips. He watched as Takera came forward and fail to strike at Grant before being tossed back. His eyes focused on the stone armor that Grant wore, calculating exactly where would be the most precise and opportune place to land a strike. A hum of lightning flooded through the senbon as he flipped it between his fingers and jumped it from his left to his right hand, bringing it back to prepare launching it forward. The line of water had continued on the journey he had led it on, shifting around between the other bookcases before stopping off to the side of the battle that was erupting. He stopped for a moment and noticed Grant was in the air and before he knew it, Takera was pinned down. This is not good... He stared on when Orsai sank a blade straight into Averus' arm and that was when he started his play. The stream of water came together and shot forward as a distraction just barely missing Grant as Shun flipped forward and dashed to the man. More lightning burned through the senbon as he reached Grant and leapt up, moving over the man and slammed the lightning infused Senbon down straight into his shoulder. He hopped backwards and landed without too much of an issue as he eyed Orsai coming at him, dodging backwards away from the attack that was being made. Phew... He wiped his brow and danced back around between two bookcases, moving to the side he launched the stream of water from in order to further analyze the situation. Sha howled and followed after his master, moving as swiftly with Shun as possible to avoid what was going on. The wolfhound would only strike when ordered, but knew that his primary objective is to protect Shun above all else. If he did not keep him alive, he would have to face the very will of Zarathos and even he feared the monster of a wolf. --------------------- Meanwhile -------------------- Kiyoshi seemed to be running around the city, avoiding the large spikes of earth jutting out from the city. He could feel something more was going on and as he blew through the top of one of the buildings, he noticed a rather large wolf trapped inside of a cage. The shinobi flipped downward and slammed a burning boot against the cage, setting the entirety of it ablaze as the large wolfhound leapt out and howled loudly. "Funny seeing you here... I didn't expect to see you so soon." Kiyoshi said as he turned to look over at Zarathos, whose killing intent and rage was so high the hairs on his fur were standing on edge. A heavy wave of bloodlust exploded through the giant wolf as he howled again even louder now. "What the hell?! Were you trying to kill me!?! ARE YOU DAFT!?" The shinobi waved his hand in the air as if he were dismissing it. He withdrew his mask and placed it onto his shoulder as a grin crossed his face. "See... I knew you would survive! You're tough! But I am rather surprised to see you here already... I was a little shocked when I came across Shun last night.Zarathos seemed rather annoyed, but calmed down. The aura of bloodlust was still rather prominent, but he wouldn't let it fully manifest until he was in sight to murder those who trapped in the cage. "The timeline had to be moved up... he is coming here in a few months time... make sure you tell your woman the whole truth... you will have to come... but that is then and this is now... they are after the boys.. but I do not know which one...""The white haired one." Kiyoshi just laughed and formed a series of hand signs, smoke began to smolder at his feet before the two of them took off to rejoin up with his squad.

Takera (Clone) raised his head at the sight of Grant lunging into the air. He tried to raise himself from the floor, but faltered still trying to recover from being rag dolled across the floor. He winced and returned his eyes to Grant as his massive armored hand came down. At the last moment Takera (Clone) budged his positioning between the fingers of the massive rock gauntlet, but when the dust settled and Grant moved back, the clone was now completely ensnared by the gauntlet.
Takera's eyes shifted over toward Averus as he heard him scream out in pain. Orsai had made his move on Averus and struck with the sword he had been carrying on his belt. Takera's (clone) hair began to stand on end. His frustration rising and his blood boiling. He thrashed about under the gauntlet, but despite his best efforts he wasn't able to break himself free. Coming to a hault, he began to breath heavily. Calming down, he watched on helplessly as Shun drove the electrified Senbon into the shoulder of Grant. Someone from their group finally nailed a legitimate blow on the duo.
---------------------------
Takera heard the sounds of Averus crying out as he focused to keep the Clone from dispersing. His brow fuzzled in frustration. What the hell is going on over there..? He thought to himself, holding steadfast while he listened to the noises. It sounds like a bunch of events chained upon each other. Some bulky and noisy while others light and quick. At the tail end of it all he could hear Sha in the distance. Sha..? ..Zarathos. We need to free him, but how do I get out of here without being seen? Takera thought to himself as he moved up to a kneel and glanced out the window. In his surprise the cage was busted and Zarathos was free. He was tailing a man walking around the corner out toward the main street. He narrowed his eyes as the man left his sight. Kiyoshi? Takera thought as he returned to his seated position, placing a hand on his chin and rubbing lightly. We just need to hold out. Zarathos is free and Kiyoshi is near. Takera thought to himself before recrossing his legs and resuming his focusing to empower the clone.

Averus Ikaru
Quote: “The wolf has escaped.” Lin spoke up as she raised a hand to her ear, pressing down on the small button that was the communication device they all had. She had a frown on her face, as she had felt the cage she had created be demolished in flame. Next time, she had to create a better cage for this kind of attack. Grimm looked over toward Lin but said nothing, turning back toward the rest of the village rooftops. He spotted now several shinobi were moving toward the large cage that surrounded the tall building. “Looks like the bait all dried up. What’s the move, boss?” Grimm spoke as he, too, raised a hand to his ear. There was a long pause before a deep voice spoke back to the two. “We give Grant and Orsai a few more minutes, then I am pulling all of you out of there. Be ready”----- Grant looked down at the captured Takera, saying nothing as he looked over toward his companion as Orsai had slashed at Averus, landing a blow. At this point he had not been paying attention to Shun, and he let out a yell as electricity arced onto his shoulder from the attack. His stone armor shattered off from the strike, and a burn mark was left upon his meaty shoulder. Orsai turned to watch as Shun attacked, and timed it right when he landed for his own attack. Suddenly he was gone, and moving faster than he had when he struck at Averus, aimed a vertical slash right at Shun’s neck. He had a look of surprise, however, when Shun was able to dodge it at the last second. He gritted his teeth in anger, then leapt backwards with the same speed he used, disappearing as the water was launched at him. Grant stayed where he was, making sure that Takera was still pinned underneath the stone gauntlet, rolling his wounded shoulder to make sure he could still move it.
Averus raised his arm a little to inspect the wound, and saw it wasn’t as bad as it had felt. He took a small breath, then seeing as Orsai had leapt back with an unnatural speed, he took the moment to pay him back for the blow he had recieved. Taking a quick dash forward, he reached down and grabbed one of the fallen books that had landed around them after the attack Grant had done before. He then tossed it toward Orsai before he leapt into the air.
Orsai had looked up and saw the book flying toward him, but it was blocking his view of Averus that had thrown it, so he did a quick slash with his blade to cut it in half, only to see that Averus had disappeared afterwards. Averus smiled as he soon twisted himself in the air and was falling toward Orsai with a clenched fist before he yelled and thrusted it forward, landing it hard on Orsai’s face, leaving a nasty bruise right afterwards.
Orsai gritted his teeth in anger as he had flinched back from the blow, then looked down as Averus landed on the ground rather badly, before he ran forward to strike once more at Averus.
Averus gritted his teeth as well as he turned quickly to see Orsai was attacking him once more, then yelled out once more as the blade spun downwards and cut open his leg, leaving a nasty gash as blood flowed down his leg.

Shun looked over to Takera for a long moment before he just seemed to grin a seemingly sadistic looking grin. The boy whistled as he seemed to unleash the 'beast' within him, dropping to all fours and growled loudly. Both himself and Sha seemed to be synchronous in their movements as they began to move forward in a zig-zag formation, moving as if they were complete mirror images of one another. It seemed the smell of blood from the attack Averus suffered into a fervor, a strange air of bloodlust emanating from his very being and washed through the room they battled in. Shun seemed to almost recognize the feeling that came from him, it was different yet very similar all the same. It struck a cord within him, remembering last night... the night he was attacked. He looked over at Sha, wondering if this was indeed the wolf whom had attacked him. Part of him was not entirely sure, but he did not have time to think much on this. Both he and Sha nodded toward one another as they both took off with what seemed to be inhuman speed, Sha padding up in front of Grant while Shun moved behind the massive wolfhound. Lightning burst from both of his clawed hands, flowing freely as Sha quickly dashed to the side and leapt at Grant from the side while Shun rushed forward. He brought his lightning infused hands forward and smashed them with all of his might right against Grant's gut. Shun flung his body backwards, kicking a senbon out from his other shoe when he saw Orsai gunning for him again. Most likely he wants to try to injure me...[ The moment Orsai swung his blade down upon Shun, the boy brought his weight and senbon forward in order to parry the blade. -------------------- Meanwhile ------------------ Kiyoshi, Yukkio and Yazanagi met up together toward one of the sides of the cage. Zarathos was on their heels, his aura of bloodlust was enough to make both Yukiko and Yazanagi shiver in fear. Kiyoshi just placed a hand on Zarathos' muzzle. "Save the bloodlust for when we get inside, ya?" Zarathos just growled, baring his teeth but ultimately agreed with him. Kiyoshi stepped forward and looked up at the cage, whistling. "I trust you can break through this without our help?" Yazanagi chimed in with one arm hung in his coat, the other holding a pipe to his lips he was smoking. Kiyoshi just grinned and rose a hand up to his lips, biting down on a finger and slammed the hand down. "Summoning Jutsu!" Out of the smoke hovered a Tengu was standing beside Kiyoshi. The summon looked over to Kiyoshi and then at the cage before it just nodded. Kiyoshi and the summon both made a series of hand seals, a massive spout of flames surrounded both of them as the moved together in the same motions. The spout of fire traveled along their bodies, wrapping around each of their legs as they each slammed a foot against the cage. A massive storm of flames slammed into the same point, shattering a massive hole inside. Zarathos did not hesitate and dashed almost immediately into the hole, releasing the pent up frustration inside and the aura of bloodlust filled the entirety of the library. Yazanagi dashed in after him followed by Yukiko and then Kiyoshi who had dismissed the summon without another word. The moment Zarathos entered the library, he let loose a howl so monstrous that it seemed to freeze Shun and Sha in place. "I will kill all of you... right here... right now."

Averus Ikaru
Grant watched the wolf boy and his pet start to dive into the pool of their power, looking far more feral to him now as he watched on. He said nothing, but was rather impressed with how much power he was bringing to the fold to save his comrade. He turned his eyes toward Orsai, who was looking rather smug now as Averus laid on the ground, the point of the blade aimed at his throat. It was when he looked back that he realized he had made a critical error in looking away.
He moved his massive, stone clad arms in a defensive position as he thought that Sha was going to leap toward one of the weaker points of his armor, protecting himself from the possible assault, only for it to not come. Instead, he looked down as Sha dashed to the side and Shun appeared, slamming his hands against his armored gut as lightning burst. He let out a tell as he took a step back, the rock armor blasted off of his stomach and nasty burns on his gut. He looked up as he kept his stance, showing that despite the attack, he was damn sturdy and was not going down easy.
Orsai looked over, twisting his hands as he saw Shun flung himself backwards before he used that unnatural speed of his to appear in front of the boy. He swung his blue-hued sword at his enemy, only for it to be parried by the senbon. Orsai gritted his teeth, taking a step back to ready for another attack, as Averus quickly rolled onto his feet to get into some kind of cover.
Outside, Grimm walked to the edge of the rooftop, spotting the large wolf and his companions were just outside the cage of stone. He laughed a little as the cage was broken open, as he could easily hear the sound of Lin’s teeth gritting in anger, a flash under her hood as she clenched a small fist. The two were then gone in a cloud of black smoke that swirled around the two before it was gone.
Grant and Orsai turned to the group that entered, and Orsai raised his blade in a stance for attack, but made no move. Grant, meanwhile, made his way over toward the stone gauntlet that held Takera down, and with a motion of his hands, the gauntlet held Takera now in a fist instead of just pinning him down.
Black smoke appeared on either side of the intruders, and Averus stood up just in time to see Lin and Grimm had now joined the four.
“Seems you two captured the boy, but failed to take out the two others. Disappointing, apprentice” Grimm said as he looked at Orsai, who turned his head in disgust and frustration. Grant looked down at Lin, who was looking at the group in anger. Zarathos could tell that, out of the four that was in front of him, only the child matched his bloodlust, possibly even more.
“We have what we came for. Let’s go, boss” Grant said as he raised his hand to his helmet. A moment later, large cocoons of stone went around the four, and Takera held in the gauntlet, before they slammed shut and dug into the ground. Any with the senses to follow the stone objects could tell they were moving rather quickly outside of the village. What was left behind was a white mask, that matched the one Zarathos had seen on their leader.
Averus looked on with wide eyes as he saw his comrade taken by the group, still unaware of the truth behind what he had seen. He slammed a fist into a table near him, gritting his teeth in anger as he just watched those assassins escape with what they had wanted in the end.

Takera (Clone) reached a hand out as the gauntlet raised. He gritted his teeth as he witnessed the others spawning around him. There was no longer an option for his escape. He was caught, though it wasn't as grim as it seemed. Takera (Clone) played the part as hard as he could. He stared on, reaching an arm out to his teammates before the stone encased around him and he was drug down through the floor and away.
-----------------------------
Takera's eyes opened wide. A chill ran down his spine, branching out across his entire back. The realization hit him like a sack of bricks--The clone had been taken by the mysterious invaders.
Drawing in a deep breath, Takera released a heavy sigh. Leaning forward he would rise from his seated position to a full stand. The racket that had been all too monstrous for the last few moments had actually calmed down to a steady, yet brief, silence.
Takera turned toward the opening between the book cases ahead of him and slipped on through silently arriving into the open. Shun, and Averus, would not immediately notice Takera's entry, but those at the entrance could see him plainly. He carried a strong grin, but it was then he witnessed Averus rear back and punch the table with gritted teeth. Slowly, his grin slipped into a frown. He must not have seen me slip away as the clone was created.. Takera thought to himself. Steadily, and silently, he moved up through the tables, his finger tips gliding along the tops of the wooden tables ever so lightly as he advanced toward Averus from his blind spot. He let out a heavy sigh and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Yo." Takera grinned as he raised an open palmed hand as a greeting to Averus. "Did ya miss me?" Takera asked playfully.
After the brief exchange with Averus, he would turn towards Shun and the group at the door. As he passed Shun he would happen to step on something strange. Immediately he looked down as he stepped back off of it reflexively. "..What's this?" Takera asked rhetorically as he reached down for the mask sitting just in front of him. Just as his fingers would coil around the back side of the familiar mask, a low growl emitted from ahead of him. Takera glanced up to see Zarathos only a foot from him. The wolf bared his teeth at Takera as he snorted. Takera shook his head at the worm nostril air that unpleasantly waved over his face so suddenly. He looked back down to the mask only for a second before he would let go of it. Takera wiped his hand across his shirt casually as he took a few steps off to the side. "..Maybe I shouldn't." He thought.

Kiyoshi stepped into the library right after Yukiko, watching as as Lin and Grimm appeared in a puff of black smoke. He just stood there with his hands buried inside of his pockets and continued to watch. He could feel the bloodlust radiating from what appeared to be a child amongst the motley crew and was about to step forward and attack them when the cocoons of stone encircled them and they all disappeared into the ground along with Takera. Yazanagi stepped over onto the cocoons and tapped his pipe against the ground, letting out a low sigh. "They are outside of the village now... not sure where, but I know the way if you want to follow." Kiyoshi shrugged his shoulders just slightly, seemingly as if he did not care that Takera had been captured. "Our focus right now needs to be playing defensive... the village is in shambles and is in need of repair. I will speak with the Raikage about setting up a team to chase after Take--"Shun stepped over to Kiyoshi, interrupting him almost immiediately. "Takera is still here... they captured a clone he made.." He seemed to make note of this just as Takera made his appearance to Averus known. Yukiko came over to Averus and began to heal him of his wounds, even though they were not life threatening it was the most she would be able to do right now. Yazanagi stepped to the door a few moments later and took a long, hard drag of his pipe before exhaling the smoke. "I'll go see if I can find any survivors... Raikage will need a report of any losses." The man dashed off out of the door as Kiyoshi grabbed Takera by the back of his coat and dragged him over to Averus. Zarathos glared at Shun after he had taken the mask from Takera, tossing it onto his head while Sha just stared at him with a rather odd expression. Shun shook and wandered over to Kiyoshi, Averus and Takera. "Alright... you, tell me what happened." He pointed at Shun as he released Takera into a chair, standing with his arms crossed over his chest as he glared down at the trio. Yukiko shot him a rather unsatisfactory look and his expression softed just slightly. "Well... we met up near the Marketplace and it was then we thought someone was following us... I smelled some new scents I hadn't smelled before... they were unlike the regular traders and villagers from the areas surrounding the village.." Shun began as he sat back in a chair beside Averus, thinking back as best as he could. He was still slightly rattled from both seeing and experiencing that aura of bloodlust Zarathos seemed to always perpetuate. "We completely confirmed it when we started walking... we decided we would led them away from the market to somewhere more quiet... less casualties if it led to a fight... the library seemed like the best choice for the time of day... I knocked out the librarian, she's currently sleeping in the large storage unit in the office." He pointed with his thumb and looked over to the office, wondering if she had woken up yet. "Afterwards... two of them.. Grant and Orsai, I believe were their names... spoke to us.. we tried to gather some information and fool them, but it didn't seem to work.. I tried to talk them out of a fight but then he..."Shun pointed over to Takera. ".. came up and went to attack one of them, but before we knew it he ragdolled into the ground and became pinned. Grant, I think, used some sort of earth-like armor and then pinned Takera down with a giant fist.. we fought, Averus got hit a few times and I managed to get a few decent hits off of Grant before well.. you guys showed up." Kiyoshi brought a hand to his chin during the play back of events, stroking it slowly as he nodded and leaned back against a table. He thought for a long moment, effectively in silence before deciding to speak. "We had been tracking a group that sounds similar to them, we didn't think they would hit the village... I mean who would be stupid enough to attack Kumogakure? If the Raikage had been here this would've been over quickly." He hopped forward and knelt down some, grinning a rather cheery grin at the boys. "You three did good, I'm proud of all of you... but I have to wonder... why were they after you?" He inquired as he looked over to Takera for a moment before waving his hand dismissively. "You and I will have that conversation one on one at the ANBU Office." Yukiko stood up and walked over to Kiyoshi once Averus had been fully healed, giving Kiyoshi a kiss on the cheek before she took off into the city to assist Yazanagi. "You three, go on home... I'd like it if you trained for the next three months before you go on your 'mission'. And yes... I know all about your mission... individually or together, it doesn't matter to me.. but become stronger than you are now." He flashed a smile before picking Shun up by his collar and placed him over his shoulder, stepping over to the exit before he waved and disappeared in a puff of grey smoke with Zarathos and Sha following behind him. Kiyoshi burst through the southern gate of Kumogakure with Shun still drapped over his shoulder, passing by several squads of shinobi who were assisting with the recovery of the damaged village. Shun estimated that the repairs would not take a very long time due to Yazanagi providing assistance. Yazanagi was known through out Kumogakure as one of the better Earth-nin in the village, having mastered the entirety of it in under a week. He was similar in Kiyoshi in that they both were quick learners, but in a fight between the two of them it's hard to say who would win. Shun looked around, noticing they were heading toward a rather remote region of Lightning Country... one he hadn't been to before. He was surprised that Kiyoshi would take him so far out of the village especially while the ones who attacked the village could still be out there. Kiyoshi came to a stop and set Shun down, who was now looking around at their surroundings. "Kiyoshi..?" Shun looked at his father before Kiyoshi turned to Shun, placing both of his hands on his shoulders and looked down at him. "Tempest."Shun's pupils quickly dialated as he quickly fell to his knees and stared at the ground as if he were dead. Zarathos and Sha stared at the seemingly unconscious boy, then over to Kiyoshi. "You're going to use that again? I do not think he can take any more of this..." Zarathos looked over to Sha who quietly faded away as if he were never there in the first place. Kiyoshi sat down across from Shun, crossing his legs and brought his hands together. He closed his eyes and began to focus, repeating some strange language that Zarathos couldn't understand. The giant wolfhound emitted his aura of bloodlust in order to keep any wandering shinobi or animals away, knowing that Kiyoshi shouldn't be disturbed. There was a chance he could lure in any of the intruders from before and if that happened, it would be an interesting fight. Kiyoshi focused harder, starting to form a wide variety of hand seals in rapid succession. This would be the last time he would have to use this technique as it also took a toll on himself as well. It was a fairly powerful Genjutsu he had been taught a long time ago and had only ever used it 3 times in his life... this would be the fourth time. The moment the hand signs finished, he shot a hand right onto the unconscious child's head before he spoke again. "Tsunami."Shun immediately returned from his unconscious state and stared at Kiyoshi, then over to Zarathos. Both of them were looking at him and it made him feel rather awkward. "W-What..? Why are we out here? What about the village?" Kiyoshi just smiled and stood up, pulling Shun up along with him. Sha crept out of a nearby bush, wandering over to Zarathos. "The village will be fine... I wasn't kidding when I said you needed to be stronger... you cannot be the same you were before... you need to be how you were during that fight... for the next three months besides balancing time with your team, you will be working with me in the ANBU office and doing training with ANBU under specific OPs I deem appropriate for you."Zarathos chuckled a little, standing up and shaking himself free of any dirt before walking over and pushing up against Shun. "You're a monster just like me... remember that." Shun just stared at both of them with a rather confused expression on his face as he looked at Sha who just barked loudly. All three of them laughed before they began their treck home, returning to the village. Over the next three months Shun moved was dragged through countless training OPs ANBU was doing in Kumogakure all day every day for three months besides the days he spent with Takera and Averus training as a team. The more he trained on his own with ANBU the more it felt as if it were second nature to him, but he couldn't put it just why it felt like that. It was a rather strange sensation, but he ended up dismissing it. Once the morning of their depature, he had acquired a cart from one of the merchant's in Kumogakure along with the merchandise to sell. He traded the majority of it all for information he had gathered for the merchant who was trying to find out who had been skimming off of his Ryo. Shun hadn't seen Kiyoshi the morning they were going to depart, being told that he had gone off to another mission in Water Country. Once the three of them had all arrived, he took the position of driver and the three of them took off. Zarathos and Sha running alongside the cart that headed to the one of the Seven Holy Cities, Aren.

Averus Ikaru
Averus turned to see the group that had entered, and his eyes were a little wide to see a very large wolf in the same room as them. The bloodlust that he felt radiating from the beast was making a chill run up his spine, and making him even back up a little. If this wolf wanted to, he could easily kill Averus, and that made fear of his weakness apparent in his mind. Turning to here Takera and seeing him dragged right over to him made a look of surprise cross his face.
“You’re...you’re here! T-That was a clone? Oh, I can’t believe…” Averus broke into a smile and a laugh as he rubbed his face. He was so worried over the fact that his comrade was taken, but everything was alright. This, of course, reminded him how unaware of the situation he was in. He shook his head, but winced from the pain he was in.
He listened to Shun explain what had happened, and then as Kiyoshi told them that each of them need to become stronger in the future for their mission, he nodded. Averus first made sure his wounds were cleaned and bandaged, and eventually he turned to leave after waving to Shun and Takera. He had much to do in the next few months, and there was no time to dawdle.
----
After the events of what had happened with the group and the assassins that had made an attempt on their lives, Averus ended up spending much of the time alone with his thoughts. He realized quite easily how weak he was during the whole affair, and knew that he could not just stay like this. Sitting in his apartment, he sat on the couch as he looked out the window. It was night out now, the moon was full and the stars were twinkling in the epic blackness of the veil of night. Averus looked on for a while, not turning away from the vastness of space before finally he blinked his eyes and stood up, walking toward his small kitchen to grab a cup and pour himself some water from the sink, gulping it down before looking at the bottom of a now empty cup, and throwing it into the sink. Thankfully, it did not break and just clinked and spun around in the bottom of the sink. Averus let out a sigh, rubbing the back of his head. He needed sleep, as his mind was just too tired to be able to think of anything that he knew he was going to have to do to start improving himself.
As he turned around to head toward his bedroom, Averus stopped in his tracks as his eyes began to slowly widen in utter surprise. Standing now in the middle of his apartment’s living room was a tall man, wearing a lab coat, black pants and matching shoes. His hands were in the coat pockets, and his peper colored short hair was all Averus could see, as he stared at the back of the man’s head. At first, he was going to attack the intruder for entering his home unannounced, but as he looked at the man he could only be reminded of one person that was matching this description; his Father. The man then slowly turned around and showed his face. The man in the lab coat had a pair of deep, sea blue eyes that had a sense of piercing examination about them, as if he could see everything that you are and ever were right in front of them. Half-circle glasses sat on the bridge of his nose, gleaning slightly in the light of the apartment, and a small scar was just over his left eyebrow.
Averus began to have a cold sweat cover his body, fear starting to infest the deepest parts of his heart as it beat faster and faster. He gritted his teeth, as thoughts began to ran through his mind, the primary of which was at the front of his mind, and sat at the tip of his tongue, was ‘impossible’. The two stared at each other for a good long while, silence and the sounds of small night bugs outside the apartment windows were all that could be heard inside. Eventually, the Father lifted a gloved hand out of his pocket and pushed his glasses up his nose a little to sit better.
“So, my son has become lazy in his foolishness to believe he had been rid of me all this time. How pathetic. I did not raise you to be some kind of lap dog for the shinobi, nor did I give you the strength to be so utterly weak.”
Averus could no longer doubt now as he heard those words, as this was his father. The voice, the face, the clothes, everything was spot on. There was only one thing now he was thinking of.
“This...this isn’t real. I must be hallucinating, seeing the ghost of my long dead father before me. I must have taken a blow to my head during the fight…”
“Oh, I can think of many different explanations as to why you are seeing me, my son. Do you really think I had not taken any sort of precautionary steps to make sure my legacy would remain safe, even as I added a multitude of experimental treatments and surgeries to your body? No, you are not so foolish as to think that, I would hope.”
Averus felt like he was going to suffer some sort of panic attack. His Father spoke the very words he had been thinking of many years ago, as his Father had always been the kind of man who would have failsafes and back up plans in case anything he ever did failed.
“In any case, I must say I am rather surpised how long it has taken for my seals to activate after so much time. When I had placed them inside the deepest and darkest places of your mind, you were but a boy, still having his eyes filled with agony and fear, instead of cold hatred I can now see in them as you look at me.”
“S-Seals? You mean...you had placed jutsu seals in my mind...what kind of seals were these?” Averus asked with hesitation now in his voice, starting to fear the worst as he had read what mind seals could do to someone, ranging from activation a person like a sleeper agent to begin a mission the caster placed on them, to even the most extreme cases of personality overrides. His Father simply chuckled.
“Not what you are thinking of, my son. I had originally placed the seals so that I could remain with you even if one of my experiments ended with my death. Seems such a thing occurred, but it was supposed to activate upon my death, and instead has laid dormant up until now. Seems there is much I must do now…”
“You are doing NOTHING to me, anymore! I...I ended you, after the surgery that gave me...gave me this cursed eye!” Averus yelled at him, not caring if the tenants of the other apartments would hear them, though he doubted they would care if they could. Half the time, they were busy doing other hobbies that made far more noise than just yelling.
His Father looked at him with a look that he had seen for the first time, utter surprise. It disappeared quickly, a gloved hand now rubbing his chin in thought. “So, you ended my life after a surgery that added a new power to your body. Seems I must have made an error in your restraints. No matter, I can still make sure the legacy I started can finish.”
Averus shook his head in disbelief, giving his Father a cold glare of anger. “Are you not listening? I said you are doing NOTHING!!” Averus then grabbed the empty glass that was in the sink, and hurled it at his father, only for it to phase right through him and break on the wall behind where his Father stood. The man chuckled at Averus.
“I am dead, my son. What you see before you is a complex image built with the memories and information I had at the time of casting the jutsu seals in your mind, becoming a part of your very brain structure. Despite you being able to see and hear me, I am not actually here, and no one else can see me. Only you can.”
Averus let out a sigh after taking a few breaths to calm himself, before looking at the image of his Father. That expression of cold calculations was on his face, and he hated it, even after all this time had passed since his demise.
“So...what can you do then? Even if you are a part of my mind, you have no real control over me, and I doubt you even had time to create even more complex seals over the ones you created already to give you the ability to do so.”
“You are right in that, my son. Though I have no power over you, I instead offer to you the one thing you are now looking for. Power, knowledge, and the ability to defend everything you want to protect, or destroy your enemies.”
“And how, exactly, do you plan to do that? You already know I don’t trust you as far as I could throw you, even in my imagination.”
“I can teach you about the many things that I added to your body, outside of what I did after the seals were placed. Your eye is peculiar, but not the only power you have at your disposal. All I ask is that you simply take the time to listen and understand.”
Averus could not lie to himself, and knew that it was impossible to lie to the image of his Father, as the man was inside his head and could easily know what he was thinking at the time. He sighed as he hung his head low, clenching his fists for a moment before he let them go. It was tempting, so much so he could not refuse the offer. He had no idea what was inside, waiting to be unlocked. This image of his Father was a prime example of what laid hidden inside him, and if there was other things that were waiting dormant in his blood, he needed to use that to its fullest potential.
“I hate you, and everything you ever did to me. All those years of pain, agony, hatred, and endless amounts of tests and experimentation has left nothing but a pit of spite, fear, and anger toward you. I have not ever considered you a true father to me, and never will. However...I can not deny that I know little of what you did to me, and such a thing needs to be understood. So...I accept the proposal. However, if you try to ensnare me in some trap you have, I don't care what it takes, I will dig you out of my brain.”
“There is no need for threats of harm to yourself, or upon your mind in some vain attempt to end me. For now, rest and regain your strength. We have plenty of time to begin tomorrow.”
With those words, his Father vanished slowly from the spot he stood on till he was no longer there. Averus knew that was not entirely true, as his Father was now somewhere in his mind, which only left him unsettled at the very least. He rubbed his eyes, as he was tired, but knew he had to clean the mess he had made as he looked at the shattered glass on the floor. Carefully he gathered the fragmented cup and threw it out into the trash before he made his way over toward his bedroom, throwing himself onto his bed as he let sleep take over. Time was going to be rather interesting to him now, and the final thought he had before the dreams started to come to him was that he would find a way to break the seals in his mind, no matter what it took to do so.
---
Time passed slowly, but with time passing it gave knowledge and wisdom to Averus. The ghost of his Father started to teach him about the experiments he had began when Averus was just a baby, nothing too dramatic or dangerous, but as his son had grown he began to go into more dangerous but beneficial experimentation. The most glaring that stood out was his Father's attempt to put different bloodlines into his son in order to give him more power, then experimented on different ways to possibly increase the amount of chakra he could have as well to compensate for the bloodlines he was trying to put into his son.
His Father began the training by unlocking the power in his blood, and Averus poured himself into researching what exactly he was trying to do. Over time, he soon found he could control his blood through his chakra, and that his body was now making even more blood to help with the use of his blood. It was slow at first, as he was a little afraid of what he could do with this kind of ability. He already knew what could happen if he ran out of chakra and stamina, but running out of blood was a definitive death no matter what. However, that fear slowly disappeared as he took careful steps through his Father’s instructions on how to handle these powers he now had at his disposal. Despite his Father’s apparent wish to train his son through the jutsu seal image he placed in his mind, Averus did not trust him at all, instead just using him to gain the power he needed.
Weeks passed, and Averus had move on to controlling his chakra affinity, which was far easier than unlocking the bloodlines he had inside his body. He had already been experimenting with jutsu that resolved around his lightning affinity, and his Father made the training to increase that knowledge he had. Having him first learn about the nature of lighting and what it can do, as well as how it is formed, before having Averus start to try to use his jutsu with this knowledge to increase the outcome of them.
Averus spent so much time researching and training that he had to balance this with his time with Takera and Shun, though he made sure to not say anything about how he was being haunted by the ghost of his Father to them. He didn’t want to worry them, nor have them think he was raving mad about this.
Eventually time had passed that a new mission had come for the three, and though he felt he was ready, Averus knew that he was going to have to try and rely on stealth over his use of his abilites and jutsu in this mission. He only hoped things would turn out well for them, as it was going to be a bumpy ride there....

Takera looked up at the few who had arrived on the scene ahead of him. Amongst them was Kiyoshi, the overly eccentric father to Shun and two who he had not seen before. The man advanced towards him after brief conversation with his comrades, grabbing hold of Takera's over shirt. "..Hunh?" was all Takera could muster before suddenly being dragged away towards the tables where Averus was. A moment later he was tossed into a seated position in one of the available chairs. Glancing up he caught sight of Shun walking towards them. Kiyoshi cut to the chase as he demanded an explanation from Shun. Interested in hearing things from Shun's perspective, and slightly hesitant to speak out with Kiyoshi standing over him, arms crossed, Takera stayed silent and listened.
As Shun pointed a clawed finger and ousted him for busting up his well laid plans, Takera felt as if Shun were perhaps holding some kind of grudge. He shrugged lightly and continued listening as Kiyoshi's tone changed. The man congratulated Takera before going on to question him, but before Takera could speak he dismissed the issue with a wave of the hand, and proclaimed it would be settled later in a one on one meeting at the anbu office. Takera arched a brow. He had no recollection of the two who came after him, and no name uttered seemed significant to any past foe who might be after him. As far as he knew, he was dead to the world, living now as Takera Kaguya in Lightning and picking the pieces of his life back up one by one.
Takera sighed as they were dismissed and stood from the chair, pausing briefly as he reached standing height. Shun mentioned that the old lady librarian was cooped up in a cabinet in the office... Takera thought to himself before glancing around the main floor of the library. I'm going to need her if I am going to check out any of these books. Takera thought as his expression changed to one of an awkward smile, his left hand reaching up to scratch the back of his head. He let out a light hesitant chuckle.
Takera turned and crossed the room, placing a firm hand on the edge of the service counter and flinging the rest of his body over to the other side. Once his feet were back on the ground he walked into the office glancing towards the cabinet. He didn't hear anything, but had assumed she was knocked out. Takera placed a hand on the cabinet handle and pried the cabinet open. There the lady sat. Her legs were folded up under her and she was concious. The look in her eyes was that of confusion and fear. Takera slowly lifted her to her feet and released her of her bindings. He cleared his throat casually. "The immediate danger has passed. Unfortunately the entrance doors are kind of in shambles, but luckily nothing else was damaged..." Takera paused for a moment, an awkward smile creeping across his face. "..I would like to check out some books." Takera stated bluntly. The lady seemed to be in shock. Her eyes were on him and her gestures suggested she heard him, but it's as if everything that occurred to that point just overloaded her brain.
A moment passed and she reached up to push her glasses up a little before rubbing her temples. The lady did not say a word, but instead walked out to the counter to look around as she recollected herself. Takera followed in tow observing her. As her eyes moved to take in the view of the room, she began to shake her head, the blank stare unchanging, as if she either couldn't comprehend what happened or was intentionally rejecting it within her mind. The lady grabbed a chair that was off to the right side of the counter and sat down continuing to rub her temples. "Yeah, fine.. whatever.." she finally spoke out to Takera. A smile spread across his face as he turned and leapt back over the counter in similar fashion.
Weaving through the tables, Takera found himself at the book cases once more. Case by case, shelf by shelf, and book by book, he scanned through what the Library had to offer. As he found them, he would pluck the books of interest to him and set them on the closest table. It wasn't long before he would reach the spot where he had picked up the one particular book from just before the fight. He scanned the area for a handful of books and then retreated down the space between cases to find that one book still laying by the window. Leaning down, he grabbed hold of the book and brought it with the rest in his arms to the table. All-in-all, he had close to 40 books. He grouped them all neatly like a block before wrapping them in wire from multiple angles like netting. He brought the books up to the librarian, who looked through the books casually, and waved Takera off.
Leaving the Library, Takera made his way out to the gates of the city. As he arrived, one of the familiar guards greeted him. "Hey, Takera. Headed home..?" The guard inquired as he noticed the large bundle of books. "That's quite a bit of reading you've got there. Studying for something?" the Guard added. Takera shrugged. "i guess you could say that. I have to get ready for a mission in a few months, and I can't stay the way I am anymore. I need to understand myself and this world better. I've got everything from medical science, the different styles of combat, and chakra circulation, to history reports and mythology here. Takera explained. The guard looked surprised. "Well, you be careful out there. There's been some kind of incident in the village, and the intruders could still be in the country." the Guard warned. Takera looked out past the gates across the mountain side and into the distance. "I'll keep that in mind." Takera responded before repositioning the books hoisted over his shoulder and continuing on down the path.
A short time later he arrived home. Harteze leaned forward in his chair upon hearing the door creak open. A clicking sound from the door gently shutting rang out, and he could hear foot steps walking down the hall towards the opening to the kitchen. Takera rounded the corner with books hanging by his side. Harteze relaxed mildly as he sat back in his chair. "You're back earlier than I imagined. How did it go?" Harteze inquired, his eyes moving from Takera's down to the box of netted books. Takera lifted the books up and set them down on the table with an audible thud. "Not particularly great. My friends and I were assaulted in the village by a mysterious group. Somehow they know me--name, typical clothing, and so on." Takera explained. Harteze's eyebrows raised. "You came under assault.. in the village?" Harteze asked. Takera nodded as he undid the binding wire net on the books and recoiled the wire. "I used to be stronger than I am now. Much stronger. I need to spend this time up to the mission at the end of this three month period training. I can't stay the way I am any more." Takera stated, his eyes glanced up to meet Harteze's as he recalled how easily just the supposed 'apprentices' rag dolled his clone.
Intrigued by the proposition, Harteze rose from his seat and walked around to meet Takera. He leaned over the table and lifted one of the books in the pile as he glanced over them all. "You have a lot of content here and only so much time. You picked out some good content, though. Where shall we start?" Harteze inquired. Takera pushed a couple books off the top layer and retrieved the particular book he had been eyeing earlier. A title on the basics through advanced methods of chakra control and the chakra circulatory system.
Three months passed, Takera spending mornings, days, and nights between studying, practicing theory, and physically training his body. Finally the morning of departure for the Alloy Mission was upon them all. He met up with the rest of the team at the base of the mountain path. Shun had managed to acquire a cart and a good sizeable amount of materials to sell. Takera slipped into the back of the cart across from Averus and rested into the corner. Still tired from constantly pushing himself, he quickly slipped off into sleep inbetween their merchandising hot spots up until their arrival to the City of Aren.

Anton followed respectfully behind instructor Jiang as the older man spoke though it seemed he expected no response from Anton. There are myriad ways to train and truthfully I believe I have improved my methods of training and that I can forge you into a better weapon this time than you were last time. However, you are simply too injured for most training so we will be focusing on tactics for now and you must think on what the layered meanings are instead of just the surface. I will be paraphrasing the tactics so learn what you can, later we will review weak points on the body, workings of chakra, and other basic knowledge to secure your foundation. Anton still remained silent only listening and thinking, at the moment it seemed his mind though not his psyche was recovering the fastest. Instructor Jiang continued speaking a moment later Last time I taught you, you were undeveloped but some basics had still been taught and as such you already had a way of thinking. Perhaps right now with what has happened to you we can successfully invert the methodology. Instead of teaching you the so called fundamentals I will teach you strategy and tactics first then you will learn the fundamentals and see naturally how to apply them to the strategies and tactics you know instead of the misguided approach of trying to apply strategy and tactics to your abilities. It sounds like a minor difference but if you only look at how to use strategy with what you already know then you don’t really plan enough steps ahead. Where if you learn strategy first it applies to everything you learn or gain afterwards making you more adaptable. Your body was badly damaged this time so where we previously focused on training your body and ninjutsu we will now train your mind and ninjutsu. You were far too promising a student in ninjutsu to give up your gift for it but if we had trained your mind earlier perhaps you would not be where you are now. Going forward you will focus on becoming a tactical weapon of intelligence instead of a simple blade pointed at targets and used crudely.Instructor Jiang paused for a moment in thought before continuing, Though you had some skill with the sword as well so we won’t neglect your physical training we’ll just focus on speed more than strength. A piercing style perhaps. Yes perhaps similar to an assassin one hit and whether you kill or don’t retreat and use ninjutsu or genjutsu. With a sigh Instructor Jiang shook his head and glanced at Anton, It truly is a pity that you’ve been damaged so thoroughly but the weeks it’s expected to take for you to heal will give us time to prepare your mind and way of thinking. Also to work on your acting, you’ll only be half as effective as an assassin if you seem dead all the time. Being able to kill someone with a smile is sometimes more useful than being able to just attack someone quickly. So much to do and time is a wasting. As he finished speaking they had finally reached a small office beyond the usual classrooms. Senior Jiang indicated for Anton to enter first before following behind and closing the door. As Anton entered his eyes naturally swept over the room, it was a relatively small space similar to a fifteen foot cube with a simple set up of a desk with one comfortable chair behind it and two normal chairs in front. Beyond this minor furnishing there was a sky light set at an angle and the rest of the room was covered in bookshelves with two comfortable looking chairs near a large table that seemed to have a map beneath glass near the center. As Instructor Jiang walked in behind Anton he pressed a hand lightly on Anton’s shoulder before frowning slightly and giving a very slight push to indicate he should sit at the table with the map. Anton complied wordlessly moving to sit in the chair closest to the direction indicated while Instructor Jiang sat in the other frowning at him from across the table. As Anton sat he thought to himself as he glanced at the map of the ninja countries, I wonder if this is what gods feel like looking down upon the world. As his eyes flicked back to Instructor Jiang he quietly waited for further instructions. Instructor Jiang’s frown deepened slightly before he said, It truly seems we did not take the proper approach in raising you before. You were troubled before but bright enough to be worth effort, why is it now you seem truly dead inside and out? At Anton’s continued silence as though disinterested in even considering the question Instructor Jiang said softly, It seems I have misjudged you, you are truly broken. Anton tell me, what is your purpose?Anton responded promptly as though by rote as he said, I am a weapon of the village. My purpose is to fulfill any missions I receive or die trying. As Anton responded Instructor Jiang sighed and shook his head before staring silently into Anton’s eyes intently using his own eyes to burrow into the soul of this person turned puppet before him. Very well then Anton, why is this your purpose? At the new question Anton once again replied automatically, Because without this purpose I will not be of use and will die. As he spoke there was a momentary hesitation on the last word as a sense of discord emerged in his mind. Instructor Jiang shook his head and said, I truly wish they wouldn’t meddle in such nonsensical manners. Very well then Anton, first we are going to break down your prior conditioning, some amateur took your training in the wrong direction. Firstly I will tell you what was correct, you are a weapon of the village but that is what you are not your purpose. In the next few weeks you are to determine your purpose in life through introspection. Now to clarify on the laziness of the person that dealt with you before, your purpose as a weapon of the village is to accomplish your mission however dying is a last resort. Why? Because if you die our weapon breaks and we are left with one fewer defense against our enemies. If you survive we maintain a better honed weapon and our time and resources that went into you are not wasted. Replacing is not a simple matter and we would much rather stockpile our weapons than break and replace them. The true interest of the village is always to raise new weapons while maintaining the old. There are times we may have to sacrifice a few for the many but it is exceedingly uncommon we will sacrifice the many for a few. As Instructor Jiang spoke his eyes never left Anton’s and Anton felt as though something in his mind relaxed and as though something of his past self had begun to emerge. Ninja are intelligent weapons, the ability to think, plan, and act independently are what make them valuable. An unthinking ninja is a broken weapon and will be discarded or destroyed. Finally with these words a surge of fear passed through Anton and his numb mind panicked as he blurted out, No I don’t want to die and be discarded! Finally with this outburst Instructor Jiang’s frown disappeared and he smiled as he said, Good. This is what I wanted, you still have a will to live and a desire to be useful so you will not be discarded. For now begin reading the books on the table and you may return home to read. I expect you to at least finish and comprehend the top volume on the thirty six strategies of war. Read that book thoroughly but don’t just memorize it. Gain insights and tomorrow we will have a discussion about the subtleties of each strategy as well as your comprehensions of them so come ready to provide examples. For now train your mind and the rest will happen later. Anton began to nod woodenly before hesitating and bowing slightly as he said, Thank you Instructor Jiang. I will do my best to recover quickly. With that he gathered the books and departed as Instructor Jiang smiled at his departing back. As Anton walked out of the academy Instructor Jiang watched him from the window and said softly, I broke through the first barrier on his mind, it was really done cleverly since many would not question a damaged puppet of lacking thought. I’m not sure how many more there are but if we can return his free will it should suppress if not destroy the rest of the genjutsu placed in his mind and we will not have to worry about the cause of the genjutsu though I have a feeling his memories of that person truly were destroyed based on the subtlety of the barriers in his mind it would have been easy for such an expert to wipe memories completely. As he spoke a blurry point appeared behind him in one of the guest chair’s by the desk. Thank you for helping with this Instructor Jiang. We are unsure what level of threat the person behind this represents but we are hopeful that even a possibly failed subject like Anton may have benefitted from the meddling of this person. Our hope is to develop a weapon several levels better than he had been in the past so as long as you can insure not harming the village is implanted at the deepest levels of his conscious and subconscious mind we will be satisfied. Instructor Jiang merely nodded as he contemplated the challenging work before him with a soft smile of satisfaction. Meanwhile Anton walked calmly if somewhat unsteadily back to his home while carrying the books that caused his arms to ache and showed the extent of his injuries more surely than the scars on his body would if he had not covered so much of his body. As he walked for the first time in what seemed like an eternity he actually thought and didn’t simply move on automatic from one matter to the next. It was as though he had finally woken up from a long dream and was now just blurrily looking upon the world. With a sigh he looked down at the books in his hand that seemed like weighty mountains despite their relatively low weight. With a self-depreciating laugh he made his way into his home feeling his face ache somewhat from the natural but unusual movements of expression that flickered over it. How ironic that after so may weeks of pain and misery he had become little more than a puppet with his spark of life buried deep beneath the surface. Walking in and sitting Anton took a deep breath and began reading through the thirty six strategies while focusing on only one section at a time. He would read over each strategy three times before moving onto the next. He had not yet begun to look at the interplay’s between them though some naturally formed instead he was reading over each section three times for understanding since the book was quite small to begin with. As he finished reading the book after nearly three hours he took some time to eat and take his medicine before closing his eyes to think on what he’d read. After a period of reflection he opened his dark eyes and began reading through the entire book once more without pausing on any section in order to begin tying the parts he had learned into a more complete whole. Once done he began to write his reflections and random thoughts. To begin I must ask is this truly all? There are six strategies split into six categories. Winning, confronting a known enemy, attacking, creating chaos, gaining ground which is also like dealing with unknown enemies, and desperate. Yet there should be more than this or perhaps this really is just a foundation? As he reflected not only on the type of strategies but the individual strategies as well he found himself understanding them more than when he only focused on the individual sections. With a nod to himself he said, So perhaps it is like this. As a weapon these are the things I must be able to do for my owner. While he read he realized that having lost all of his jutsu and abilities he really was in a better situation to learn these strategies. There was currently nothing he could do so he had to hypothesize on all variables or possibilities since he did not have any skills that could clarify a variable. As such every strategy had hundreds if not thousands of iterations he only need truly consider both the words and the intent. For the moment he closed the book and lay down to rest his body as he closed his eyes and began to focus on hypothesizing as many different scenarios and the strategies that would come from them as well as strategies that may have gone into setting them up as he could. With eyes closed and sleep fleeting battles and wars played out in his mind as did conversations and fragments of memory. What he could do and what he had done were now unknowns but some scenarios rose effortlessly into his mind as he began to create layered conjectures becoming his own enemy as he sought to out maneuver and counter himself. The next day came quickly as Anton awoke from a light sleep feeling much better than he had the day before despite a lingering weakness throughout his body. God why do I feel like I’ve been used as a training dummy for the entirety of the hyuuga clan? His words were sarcastic and a light smile came to his face as some of his buried personality surfaced. A soft laugh emerged from his lips as a mildly fake smile crossed his face and he thought to himself, Yes this is how it used to be. A shallow façade left over my deadened self. I can laugh and live as though normal it is only on missions and in front of superiors that I need to act cold or professional. With this thought Anton stood and moved around for the morning beginning with very light stretches to try and maintain the little strength in his body while not exacerbating his wounds. After stretching he bathed and ate a breakfast of fruit and boiled eggs before making his way to a closet from which he removed an old back pack in which he placed the books he received from Instructor Jiang. Holding the book on strategy in his hand he placed the backpack over his shoulders and shifted it until it was more comfortable. The atrophied muscles in his arms could barely handle even these light books so he had decided to use the pack to disburse the weight more and make his life easier as he returned to the academy early on this new day. Reading the strategy book casually as he walked his stride today seemed more natural than before though his face remained severe as each step seemed to send tingles of pain through his body that was still far from healed. Pushing the pain to the back of his awareness he read over the index of the book once more and let his own insights codify the contents in a manner that made sense to him. In his case he felt the most inspiration from the section on gaining ground was most suited to him as having been returned to the starting line he needed to gain ground in every sense of the meaning. Ideally if he could execute Feigning ignorance without going crazy and tying silk blossoms to the dead tree he could perhaps create a future in which he would be free to determine his purpose. Biting his lip many thoughts floated through Anton’s mind as he absently moved forward while his eyes flickered over the words of the book and the path ahead. Taking a deep breath Anton closed the book and let his hand fall to his side as he momentarily shifted his attention away from the book and towards the other task he was assigned. What is a purpose? How do I find my purpose? Is it simply what I want to do or accomplish? Even if it is that simple what do I truly want to do? I want my life to have meaning but I have never really dreamed. At least that is the sense I have considering my memories are all bits and pieces or torture. Shaking his head he emptied his mind for the moment and looked up to the sky as he let his mind drift taking in the simple beauty of blue and white while feeling the earth supporting his every step. I don't wish to reach the heavens or any other impressive height, perhaps I should be like the earth and support the feet and weight of someone that can reach the sky that is so far beyond my thoughts? With this as his basis Anton once again let his mind wander as he looked down to the earth before him and the outline of the academy that was just appearing in his field of vision. It would be fine to leave the complicated stuff for later and instead focus on the here and now. After all, he could only do what he could do and leave other tasks to those capable of them. Whether or not this was his way would be determined later. Quote: Word count for this post: 702 Total word count = 3003

On reaching the academy Anton made his way to Instructor Jiang’s room once more and as he knocked softly on the door it opened and the heavy set man nodded to him and motioned for him to enter and once more sit near the coffee table. Anton made his way in and took the back pack from his shoulders before sitting and removing the books and his notes from his bag. Once he had everything organized he turned his attention to Instructor Jiang and nodded to show he was ready to begin. Very well then Anton, let me here your reflections on the thirty six strategies in the book first then questions at the end. As Instructor Jiang spoke he poured tea from two separate tea pots before sliding one to Anton and keeping the other for himself. From the scent that wafted when the first cup was poured Anton knew it was oolong tea but the second tea which was given to him had a thick medicinal smell which made his lips twitch in distaste though he did not refuse the cup but instead quickly drank it at once before running his tongue over the roof of his mouth. The taste was unpleasant but such was the fate of the ill, with a shrug he began to speak. Of the strategies I felt the segment on gaining ground was well suited to me and my current situation. That said on winning the six segments highlighted the importance of using your assets effectively and avoiding delays that can allow enemies to prepare or regroup. The majority of it was based around misdirection and recognizing opportunities. Whether it was misleading a superior to achieve a goal in the bigger picture, forcing attackers to defend vital points, getting others to do your work for you, conserving your energy while making opponents waste theirs, exploit openings whether you cause them or not, and moving one way before striking the opposite. Each strategy takes advantage of the opponent needing to counter you to weaken them further. As he spoke Anton gestured slightly with his hands as he subconsciously ran scenarios through his head. Next are those for confrontations, in this case there is once again an emphasis on deception. I felt as though this section on confrontation was almost designed to be a basic introduction in how to be a ninja. Creating something out of nothing is the basis of fighting as a ninja whether we refer to transformation, genjutsu, or executing ninjutsu in battle. By creating one impression to mislead every true action becomes a surprise. The faking action while covertly doing another is a run on of the prior but in the second case the committing an overt action to cover the covert is another good lesson. Next I realized I had heard this stratagem before but it was an idiom of when the oyster and the kingfisher fight the fisherman benefits. Allowing others to fight and cleaning up the weakened remains is logical to the extreme and honestly combining this with killing with a borrowed knife would be useful. The next stratagem put me in mind of the saying give flesh to break bone since a small sacrifice for a critical strike. Lastly on confrontations always keeping an eye out for opportunities so that you can benefit from any weakness shown. Pausing for a moment Anton accepted a cup of the oolong tea from Instructor Jiang he sipped it lightly before moving on to the next segment. On the subject of attacking there are a number of matters that I have questions about but to summarize, the first is to take a big action to force a reaction from an opponent and then act on any weakness shown or created by their response. Next is one that confused me at first but made sense later. I interpret it as bring back old skills or concepts to use now. Whether as a threat or misdirection it can help weaken an opponent’s resolve. The following is as simple as not attacking where a person wants to defend and instead drawing them out to where you want to fight. This nullifies both their preparations and any terrain advantage they may have. For the next I chose to interpret it along the same lines as a cornered enemy is the most dangerous, it is more efficient to create an opening so that an opponent has hope then strike them down with full force when they seek to escape. The next one confused me much more than the others in this section but I believe it to mean never fear making small sacrifices to draw in big rewards. Such as throwing out kunai when there is a hidden opponent in hopes of making them move or attack which makes them a known variable and it becomes possible to defeat them. Lastly the next strategy is as simple as saying, aim for the head or heart to disable the body. In most though not all cases capturing the leader will break the opposing force but even if it doesn’t break them it draws them away from what they were doing to aid or attack. The next section was in many ways my favorite, the chaos strategies are somehow just fun to read and imagine. The first strategy was what to do to remove chaos from your own side which is to take out the cause of the chaos. If you neutralize the cause the rest will begin to settle down on it’s own. This also inversely means that when causing chaos for greatest effect you should hide the true cause or have multiple causes so that it cannot be easily settled. After that was a reminder to take advantage of chaos to gain benefits. You may not always gain but seizing an opportunity that would not normally present itself can be of great benefit. Next is another simple concept with deeper meanings, essentially misdirection of making people believe you are doing nothing even when you are by making them see a dummy or fake body as your true self. The next one I simply read as cut off their escape before confronting an enemy. This also goes back to making an opening when they are cornered to strike them down. By cutting off their planned escape you can make them desperate which then makes them less cautious of traps when you give them a way out. Next is the obvious make allies that can’t easily attack you or that you can’t easily attack and strike enemies that are near you. Lastly for this section is one I had to research a bit to understand, when two sides are fighting get permission from one to help so that the other can be defeated then you can turn on the first if they are weak enough or leave them as an ally if it is suitable. Anton once again paused as he took a drink from his tea and caught his breath, he was not truly accustomed to talking so much in one go even if the subject was of interest and already was feeling weary. Perhaps sensing this Instructor Jiang held up a hand and said softly, Take a brief break, you’re doing fine, we’ll cover the final two sections in ten minutes so meditate or rest and recover. Anton nodded gratefully to Instructor Jiang before leaning back in the chair and closing his eyes to rest. As he kept his eyes closed and rested he once more felt vexed at how much his body had weakened after his capture. His stamina had been damaged along with his strength and he wasn’t even able to draw upon chakra to revitalize himself or improve his healing. From how the doctor explained it the damage to his chakra system was so extensive that they were actually afraid to use healing techniques on him to speed up his recovery because it could permanently cripple his system. For now he simply had to bide his time and let his body recover naturally until it reached a point where it was stable enough to be assisted. Such a farce, a vicious and cold joke the world decided to play, yet that was how the world was. Cold, uncaring, and vicious with just hints of warmth that existed in pockets so long as circumstance did not strike them down. After resting a few more minutes he opened his eyes and took another sip of tea before receiving a nod from Instructor Jiang and continuing where he had left off at the two thirds mark of his review. Next is the practices for gaining ground. The first is a matter of undermining others. By weakening their foundation or things they depend on they will fall more easily. Next is indirect confrontation, lead others into suspecting a target that you cannot directly accuse or use words to make them defend themselves without actually referencing them so that they end up drawing suspicion from their actions. Not showing your full abilities and causing others to underestimate you is always a valid tactic but when combined with creating a false sense of security can allow for a deadly blow to be struck. Next is removing your path of retreat to force yourself forward and that is followed by hiding your weakness or giving the impression you are capable of more than you are. Lastly for lack of a better way of phrasing I believe is a direction on usurping power by securing resources for yourself or the dependence of other powers. Anton took a deep breath to attack the last set of strategies as Instructor Jiang nodded lightly to him. Lastly are the desperate strategies, things to do either as last resorts or when all else fails. To begin with is the beauty trap though I prefer to think it’s not simply gender relations but the idea of using instinctual desires or needs to draw out the worst in people and sow discord. After that is to my interpretation the brazen invitation to a trap or in another sense bluffing to give such an impression. Third was misinformation, as is well known a spy that is discovered is no longer effective. If I were to discover a spy, I would not tell others and instead provide semi-accurate information so that either the owner of the spy begins to suspect their allegiance or to help me predict the next actions of others based on the lies and truth I provided. Next is hobbling your enemy with their own strength, if you are able to restrain them with their own assets it makes all actions easier. Next is the matter of gaining trust of an opponent, at times you must harm yourself to show that you are an ally. Finally is what you said to me before, survive and escape, a broken weapon must be replaced and that is harder than repairing so if nothing else works flee and return when stronger. Those are my interpretations and understanding of the strategies.Finished speaking at last Anton took another deep breath then drank the remainder of his tea as he looked to Instructor Jiang for guidance. Instructor Jiang nodded and said, You have shown a decent initial grasp of the concepts, going forward I will have you study more texts on warfare and tactics and I want you to imagine scenarios to use everything your read. Once you are cleared to use chakra again and begin retraining your skills you are to reread all texts with a mind of how to apply each skill you learn or remember. We will get into more details later but for now go on home and begin reading the next book. Come visit me again the day after tomorrow and let me know what updates your doctor gives on your condition. Also to start recovering I want you to walk regularly so take a break from reading after each chapter and walk around, do not go too far from a place to rest but be sure to push yourself a little bit so you begin to feel tired before stopping. With his instructions given Instructor Jiang stood and made his way to his desk while Anton began tidying up the area he was seated at then stood and departed with a slight bow.
