O'len of Western Weyr
(Flame's Fury)

User Image
Formerly: Oerlen (orlen) / Oer (orr)
    Age: 24 (3553.08.11)
    Sex: Male
    Sexual Orientation: Mostly heterosexual
    Rider Rank: Wingrider
Former Rank/Craft: Guide / Holdbrat / a harper??? / fine, Fishercraft... no, wait

    Physical Description:
    • 6'3"
    • Big muscle boy
    • Reluctantly, barely tanned
    • Various scars on his arms, hands, and legs from feline fights
    • Short, curly blond hair
    • Pale green eyes
    • Homespun clothes in browns, greens, and blacks
    • No embellishments, such as jewelry or tattoos

    Personality: rewriting

Positive Trait List: gallant, joyful, selfless
Negative Trait List: cocky, brash, oblivious, vulnerable

History: Nearly twenty-three years ago, Journeywoman Lillis, Salt Water Fisherman of Tillek Hold, ventured to Black Sand with the intention of studying the island's aquatic ecosystem firsthand. She ended up studying a mousy local builder named Ursel as well, and a little over a year later they welcomed a son into the world, a boy as bright and boisterous as his mother.

Oerlen had an interesting, if mostly pedestrian childhood, his life the polar opposite of tragic. He grew up surrounded by his mother's fish stuff and his father's construction stuff, expressing interest in both while lacking investment in either. Ursel mainly helped to build and maintain the living quarters of many of the hold's citizens, though in his spare time he also put together a number of variations on a similar theme: humane traps for wild felines and humane ways to deal with wild pirates. Oer accompanied his father on many catch-and-release outings over the years, and with time grew familiar with quite a few effective methods for defending against both man and beast. He often joined his mother on her boat as well, learning the ins and outs of basic Fishercraft while he mended nets and cast lines.

One warm day at the start of his fourteenth turn, when neither of his parents needed him for anything in particular, Oer found his true calling, or lack thereof, perhaps. Curiosity set him wandering near the vacationers' huts, and before he could find a way to look busy he was cornered by a nervous gentleman and his daughter. They asked for directions to the nearest beach, and what followed was an entertaining traipse down the coast, culminating in a generous tip. It was the largest sum of money that the boy had ever earned, which wasn't saying much considering that he'd never been paid in his life. He kept up this ambiguous work for what remained of the summer, partially because of the money, but mostly because he genuinely enjoyed it. Oer liked sharing local lore. He soaked in the awe of his audience as he sidestepped a hidden crevasse or climbed a sheer-barked tree to shower them with fruit and nuts. He took pleasure in the sound of his own voice.

As the years passed, Oerlen deftly avoided formal Apprenticeship in favor of being a tour guide of sorts, and his parents turned a blind eye until he was almost out of his teens. Questions regarding his future increased the closer he got to his twentieth year, and he was feeling particularly desperate on the morning the Searchrider showed up. He didn't quite know what he was getting into when he agreed to become a Candidate, but he was more than open to learn, and that was apparently enough.

User ImageBrown Aleyath
written by Uta
colored by demon_pachabel

Origin of Name: Aleyath's name comes from a type of will-o-wisp that is found over the marshes as observed by Bengalis: the aleya. Local fishermen can get lost in the marshes if they attempt to follow the lights, and they are thought to be spirits of past fishermen who drown in the marshes. They are known to sometimes help locals, or in other cases, lead them to their deaths.

Inspiration: Aleyath is based on the Will-o'-the-Wisp. This is considered a sort of atmospheric ghost light witnessed by travelers at night, especially over bogs, swamps, and marshes. It can resemble a flickering lamp, and it will recede if approached, drawing travelers from safety. Many believe that the wisps are fairies or elemental entities bringing travelers to their doom; others believe they are spirits caught between heaven and hell, denied entrance in either, and forced to wander the earth.

The Will-o'-the-Wisp is where Jack o' Lanturns come from! The Irish legends tells of Stingy Jack, who sells his soul to the devil to pay for a pub tab. To get out of the payment when the Devil comes to collect, he tricks the Devil up a tree, and then carves a cross upon it so he cannot climb down. In exchange for removing the cross, the Devil forgives Jack's debt. Upon Jack's death he's not allowed into Heaven -- but Hell also rejects Jack, as revenge. All Jack is given is one coal from Hell to light his path as he wanders the twilight world, where lost souls are condemned. Jack puts the ember in a hollowed turnip, or in later versions, a pumpkin.

There are many different stories and legends concerning Will-o'-the-Wips all over the world. Some think they are lost souls, others believe them markers of buried or hidden treasure, or perhaps even the guardian of the treasure itself; some think they're a marker of impending death.

Personality: Aleyath is a brown that was born for adventure! This dragon tends to get bored of the mundane and dull, and would much rather be out there fighting some battle, exploring new places, or even simply stirring up trouble! He's the sort that gets easily bored when there's nothing to do, and will start stirring up fun simply because he can! His impetuous nature guarantees that slow moments don't stay that way for long—he'd rather jump head first into the fray than stay stranded on the sidelines. He'll drag his rider along whether the like it or not, so his rider had best be firm if they can tell his decision is a bad one!

And yes, Aleyath is chalk full of bad decisions! The only thing this brown enjoys more than exploring an unbeaten path, is the collection of things! Treasures! If it's sparkly and shiny, or if it looks expensive, you can bet this brown is going to want to investigate. He loves shiny things, and will be a bit of a thief during his hatchling days. If his rider doesn't curb the behavior firmly, then they might well find themselves with a thief! Aleyath can't help it—he wants to collect the prettiest things and keep them, all to himself. Well, maybe his rider can have some, but that's it! Selfish at heart, this brown tends to think only of himself and his rider. While he's not a mean or cruel dragon, he certainly wouldn't be the first one to stop and help someone in need—but if his rider insisted, well, okay, fine, if they must. If he thinks he can get something out of it, or it somehow will help him, Aleyath will be more inclined to do the right thing; but if it puts him out and he gets nothing, well, he'll have no problem passing right on by. He looks out for him and his own, thank you—it's nothing personal, really!

Ultimately, Aleyath is a very amenable dragon. When he isn't out seeking adventure or treasures, he's very go-with-the-flow. He'll roll with just about any interaction, and isn't a particularly temperamental sort. If one of his ideas turns out to get him hurt or in trouble, well, he'll roll with it; if plans change or he's sent to a different Wing, well, that's all well and good by him. His malleable nature is almost a flaw, and paired with his selfishness, he can give others the idea that he doesn't care for anyone but himself and his rider.

It just isn't true, even if it isn't always easy to see. Aleyath is the rogue with a heart of gold, and sometimes, that heart shines through. When the brown decides—or is convinced—to be selfless or generous, he can be quite the daring individual. It doesn't happen often, but this brown isn't the sort to truly leave someone in need. He might claim not to see the stranded wagon full of people in trouble, but he would inevitably turn around to rescue them at the last minute; he might not want to stop and look for burrowed Thread, but you can bet he'd be the first to snatch someone from a wrong stop, or imminent danger.

He doesn't always think about himself... but after every good deed, he does expect some sort of reward.

      Positive Traits: adventurous, amenable, daring
      Negative Traits: greedy, impetuous, selfish

    Adult Size: 35 feet / 70 dragonfeet / 105 meters

Physical Attributes: A quite average sized brown with lovely spots that almost seem to glow. Almost, but not quite. He carries himself with confidence, and walks in a strut.

Additional Notes: This dragon has an eye for things that glitter, and will likely have a fondness for metallics purely for that superficial reason alone. It's not that he looks down on other chromatics, he just loves the sparkle and shine of bronzes and golds. He will be a thief and should any of his fellow weyrlings (or their riders) have something particularly shiny of interest to him, he will not hesitate to find a way to take it. He himself doesn't necessarily want to be decked out in bling—but he wouldn't mind a stash of it to call his own.

He'll chase anything pretty enough, but will be shallow, and fond of the shiny queens. Heck, even a handsome bronze would do. Maybe one of both. Both is good, after all.

Brown Kree

Kree has an uncanny knack for picking up on whenever Aleyath does something bad and will immediately stop whatever he's doing and try to kiss O'len's a** to make himself look like the better brown. When Aleyath is behaving, Kree is a rather independent firelizard, disappearing for days at a time and only showing up when he wants to be oiled or is looking for a bit of affection. He's also the dadliest dad.

Blue Kaymer

Kaymer's first instinct is to chomp. He's an angry blue who only really listens to his master, which is why you won't see a lot of him. When O'len has company and asks him to stay away, Kaymer is happy to oblige. Stupid humans.

T'rin of High Reaches Weyr
(Burning Aces)

User Image
    Formerly: Torin
    Age: 20 (3557.02.27)
    Sex: Male
    Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
    Rider Rank: Wingrider
    Former Rank/Craft: Apprentice Harper

    Physical Description:
    • 5'9"
    • Golden brown eyes
    • Shoulder-length, curly brown hair with shaved sides, like a wide, floppy mohawk that tapers to a point in the back
    • Slightly bronzer than the palest boy
    • Missing the last two fingers on his left hand
    • Expectant; seems ready to dart off at a moment's notice
    • Graceful; when he does move, it's smooth and deliberate
    • Wears well made clothing, usually consciously arranged to appear as rakish as possible

Personality: Given how highly Torin appears to think of himself, it's surprising that he ever ventured far enough away from his mirror to be Searched. It's easy to dismiss him as a snotty, spoiled wretch because, on some level, he is. Those who do so can hardly be faulted. He greets people with fluttering kisses pressed to cheeks and the backs of hands, and his narrow-eyed sneers are nothing short of legendary in their effectiveness. Anyone showing outward signs of disliking him is disliked in turn, though that derision can melt away for appearances' sake if he thinks they might one day do him the right kinds of favors. He is wary of people in positions of power, but that doesn't mean he's unwilling to kowtow with exuberance whenever he's being watched.

Though he has been known to voluntarily expose himself to dangerous circumstances if he thinks it might afford him some benefit or earn him praise, most of the time Torin prefers hanging back and assessing volatile situations from afar before he steps in and dirties his hands. He is well aware of what becoming a dragonrider will demand of him, but he secretly hopes that his inevitable status will also allow him to exact revenge on those who have wronged him. Until such opportunities arise, however, he is content to play at being a well-behaved example of a Holder's spare heir, eager to make friends and work hard...ish. Totally.

Positive Trait List: devoted, courageous, engaging, focused
Negative Trait List: pushy, conniving, conceited, phony

History: Half a day's travel by runner from Bitra Hold lies Havell, a minor hold led by a hanger-on named Thaniel. As a younger man he aspired to see the families under him grow to be as threatening as the ones he looked to, but his people have always been the addicts, not the ones who addict. They make decent money breeding herdbeasts for meat and runners for racing, but Havell will never be a place to fear. What Thaniel does have going for him is a powerful concentration of pure luck, at least in games of chance. His good fortune has kept his hold out of danger more times than he can count, and he is a frequent guest at several of Bitra's gambling houses for the misguided hope he provides the tourists.

    But enough about Thaniel.

Seventeen years ago, Torin was born into his father's house with much less fanfare than he would have preferred, even as a mewling infant. His brother Alaban was already Havell Hold's golden child, an imposing lad who most closely resembled their fiercely personable, runner-wrangling mother. Torin took after the daintier Thaniel, and as he grew he became the pet of the hold, a courteous little gentleman who was just as compelling as his brother in a completely different way. Unlike some power hungry second sons, Torin was very content with his lot in life, using his time to not only soak up an education, but to learn more about runner husbandry, a smattering of tailoring, and most importantly, music. The boy took to singing like a dragon to flying, though he never wrote the songs he performed. As such, he was an insatiable collector of Harpers, and by the time he was nine, a number of Masters had recommended he go to Fort Hold to train.

He did. He might have stayed longer had it not been for the accident.

In an ironic stroke of what was perhaps the worst luck one could experience, Thaniel's beloved wife Bhaera was killed when she was thrown from one of her favorite runners. Though the boy and his mother had never been close, Bhaera was far from cruel and Torin was understandably crushed. But as upset as he was, his devastation couldn't compare to his brother's. Now of an age to get into the worst kind of trouble, Alaban began regularly spending his days and nights in Bitra's more disreputable establishments, frittering away an upsetting chunk of the savings his father had amassed over the years. It took no time at all for Alaban to fall into debt to a handful of holds, including Niue, a nearby cothold run by a tricksy gentleman called Linoch. Rather than demanding that Havell hand over what remained in its coffers to cover Alaban's grief, Linoch proposed a wedding instead. His beautiful, wine-soaked sister Vrien would marry... Thaniel. Alaban's father was still quite young, all things considered, and Linoch clearly preferred to hook his rising star to an actual Holder, not a hotheaded heir who might self destruct before he could inherit.

The marriage was awkward for everyone for a time, but following the birth of Thaniel and Vrien's son Elunn, the family's tumultuous stretch seemed to calm. Havell's next five years were positively boring, and during that time, Torin discovered the one thing he was destined to be: Elunn's big brother. He and the child were inseparable, which made it all the harder for him when his half brother was bartered away. Vrien had never been the most responsible of women, and she thought nothing of handing her five-year-old son over to an unknown fate to pay a few debts of her own. By the time Thaniel discovered what she had done, it was too late. Elunn had disappeared.

Torin did not take the news well. Four months after his sixteenth nameday, he followed some spotty rumors to a known trafficker, where he was met with denial and threats before being roughly turned toward home by her goons. They took a couple of his fingers, too. After that, Torin adopted an air of rebellion, though from an outsider's point of view it wasn't all that different from the regular teenage kind. Kohl, tight pants, eye-rolling, those sorts of things. The biggest change in him was that he could no longer stand his home, and he began practically jumping up and down and waving his arms every time a Searchrider passed overhead. Bonding to a dragon had never been a dream of his growing up, but now, though his motivations might be faulty, he can think of little he wants more. He was successfully Searched by T'of and blue Makhmilith right before the tea hatching and was present for it, even though he didn't Impress.

User ImageBlue Ingonth
written by Uta
colored by Andranis
profile art by pach

Origin of Name: As the main character in the Emperor's New Groove is based on a llama, it is only fitting that Ingonth's name is as well. Ingon is Javanese for the word llama.

Inspiration: "Perfect World" — The Emperor's New Groove

"Perfect World" is a song featured in Disney's The Emperor's New Groove. It was written by Sting but is sung by Tom Jones as the Theme Song Guy. It essentially summarized the main character, Kuzco, and how the world essentially revolves around him.

The 40th animated feature in the Disney Animated Canon, the film is a comedy including adult and child humor. Produced by Randy Fullmer and directed by Mark Dindal over a six-year production timeline, The Emperor's New Groove was altered significantly from its original concept as a more traditional Disney musical entitled Kingdom of the Sun, to have been directed by Dindal and Roger Allers (co-director of The Lion King).

Personality: Ingonth is a spoiled creature, and that's putting it lightly. This blue dragon is known to be self-centered, vain, pompous, haughty... If he can, this blue will certainly try to make any situation about him, and why shouldn't he? As far as Ingonth is concerned, he was the best egg in the clutch; the best blue on Pern; the best dragon to ever dragon. As far as he's concerned, color doesn't matter--even though his hide doesn't sparkle or glimmer like some, he knows his own worth, and will never be shaken from such an idea. On the plus side, this makes the blue dragon confident and bold. He doesn't know the definition of insecurity, and moves with confidence in everything he does.

Unfortunately, he is a bit too confident. His confidence, mixed with his vanity, has turned him into a very self-centered creature. Everything Ingonth does likely has some sort of angle in it for him. Even at his most generous, you can bet this blue is considering how it somehow does something for him or his rider. Nothing he does comes free, but you might not know the price until it's too late.

Though he's a spoiled creature, there are some good qualities about Ingonth. He's known to have impeccable taste and thanks to his vanity, as well as his spoiled hearts, he has learned to be quite discerning. While this can often lead him in being overly-picky, and might hold him and his rider up, it can also help save lives; his riding straps and his rider's riding gear will always be top-notch; he will always be vocal about the smallest of injuries or pain points to himself or his rider; and he will certainly ensure that he IS top notch at whatever they must accomplish.

Very little intimidates or frightens Ingonth, because he knows he is great, knows he is glam, and believes himself to be on top of the world. He isn't frightened of any dragon larger than him, or any color for that matter. He will sass anyone he pleases, much to his possible detriment, and he doesn't always know when to keep himself quiet. Unless his rider keeps him in check, this blue will have no trouble demanding whatever he pleases.

      Positive Traits: bold, shrewd, cheeky
      Negative Traits: spoiled, self-centered, vain

    Adult Size: 54 dragonfeet

Physical Attributes: Ingonth is a very thin and very tall blue dragon. He has a long muzzle, long headknobs, and long wings. He is everything a blue dragon should be—light on his feet, limber, and excessively fast in the sky. He cuts a striking figure while in the air, and doesn't he know it! He'll always be naturally trim and sleek.

Additional Notes: Ingonth enjoys spending time with herdbeasts. While he will eat them when he must, he seems to have a clear preference for wherry, wild porcine, and even sea faring game. He also has a perverse fondness for spinach puffs.

You can bet this blue will be picky about flights. He probably would prefer to be the one being chased.

Brenley of Western Weyr
(???)

User Image
    Age: 19 (3558.01.17)
    Sex: Male
    Sexual Orientation: Reluctantly hetero
    Rider Rank: Junior Weyrling
Former Rank/Craft: Homeschooled Cartographer / Herbalist

    Physical Description:
    • 6'0"
    • Sturdy; looks like he would give good hugs if he ever actually hugged people
    • Pasty; prone to blushing and sunburn, though when he's out in the elements he covers up with hoods and thin scarves so the latter is less of a problem
    • Floppy ginger hair
    • Bright blue eyes
    • Usually appears tired or indifferent
    • Simple clothing in blues and browns; a surprising abundance of jewelry, mostly in the form of rings and dangly trinkets
    • We've got Satchels McGee over here
    • Tattoos:
      • a pair of rulers down the inside of his pointer finger and across his thumb, so that when he holds his left hand in an L, he can take crude measurements
      • a series of five of his favorite constellations* across the backs of his calves

Personality: To put it mildly, spontaneous social situations are rarely Brenley's jam. They don't cause him any anxiety or embarrassment on their own, he would just rather not waste his energy playing nice. He spends a lot of his time in two places at once: whatever space he is currently occupying physically, and the one inside his head. It makes it kind of difficult to drum up small talk.

Luckily, Bren's attention can be pulled toward reality fairly easily by introducing a topic worthy of discussion. Once pleasantries are pushed aside in favor of particulars, his mood can shift from indifferent to downright incandescent if you stumble upon one of his interests. He is insatiably curious and greatly enjoys hearing other people's opinions on and experiences with subjects he knows well.

While he has seen much of what the western continent has to offer, he remains strangely sheltered, having never stayed in one place long enough to make friends or absorb social niceties. Bren knows things, not people, and while he isn't intentionally rude, he can get dismissive when life doesn't go as he expects. He is far more likely than most to bow to peer pressure, but thankfully he is intelligent enough to back out of a decent number of the dangerous situations he finds himself in before the point of no return.

Positive Trait List: clever, curious, creative, self-reliant
Negative Trait List: sheltered, impatient, distracted, reticent

History: Brenley never knew his father. Back when he was inclined to care, he envisioned the man as some sort of towering, pale apparition, given that his mother was far shorter and comparatively darker overall than he was. It helped that she was the type to get knocked up by a ghost, not that he would have put it that way as a child. It had just seemed fitting somehow, that was all.

Mira and Bren never had much in the way of a permanent home. Prior to the resurgence of Thread, they traveled from hold to hold, bartering poultices and tonics for a night's shelter. When it was warm, they made camp outside. Mira encouraged her son's little collections, bringing him beautiful rocks, shells, and gems whenever she uncovered them. She taught him all she knew of herbalism, but she had never been to Healer Hall and her tinctures were the stuff of crones. She put a lot of stock in the stars, only brewing certain remedies under particular constellations and moons, and it was this concentration—along with her tendency to get them lost—that sparked Bren's interest in cartography.

Much as his mother had with her herbs, Brenley learned how to chart the world in fitful bits, gleaning all he could from books, hearsay, and simple observation. His maps were good, especially the ones that featured lakes. Lakes were his specialty.

Things began to change right around the time when Thread returned. Mira had always been an unpredictable woman, and though she'd grown moreso over the years, Bren had largely failed to see it. He was with her all the time, after all, and her blissful highs and furious lows swung farther and farther from one another at a pace that couldn't be measured day to day. When Brenley awoke to a scribbled note outlining his mother's plan to gather the silvery strands that fell from the sky for her newest concoction, he realized too late that he should have been more observant. A moment had passed when their roles had reversed and he had missed it. She had needed him to care for her and he hadn't been there.

He found Mira a few days later by chance, her body so small and sad that he overlooked it the first few times he passed. Her face was peaceful, one hand clutching a smooth, green stone with a hole in the middle. He took it. He kept it.

They had been on their way to Western Weyr, so Bren kept going. He barely spoke for weeks after he arrived, taking on random tasks when asked and keeping to himself. Over the next few months he opened up little by little until one morning he woke with slightly more hope in his heart than hurt.

User ImageBronze Tuinunuth
written by Meepfur
colored by Meepfur

Origin of Name: California Condor #615, hatched at the Oregon Zoo and released in Southern California. The Ventana Wildlife Society reached out to the Nez Perce Tribe Cultural Resources Department to name him, and Tui-nu-nut was chosen, meaning "No Tail," as his tailfeathers had required repair after being damaged by repetitive hard landings on the ground.

Inspiration: The California condor (Gymnogyps californianus) is a New World vulture and the largest North American land bird. It became extinct in the wild in 1987 when all remaining wild individuals were captured, but has since been reintroduced to northern Arizona and southern Utah (including the Grand Canyon area and Zion National Park), the coastal mountains of central and southern California, and northern Baja California in Mexico. Although four other fossil members are known, it is the only surviving member of the genus Gymnogyps. The species is listed by the IUCN as Critically Endangered. Their plumage is black with patches of white on the underside of the wings; the head is largely bald, with skin color ranging from gray on young birds to yellow and bright orange on breeding adults. Its 3.0 m (9.8 ft) wingspan is the widest of any North American bird, and its weight of up to 12 kg (26 lb) nearly equals that of the trumpeter swan, the heaviest among native North American bird species. The condor is a scavenger and eats large amounts of carrion. It is one of the world's longest-living birds, with a lifespan of up to 60 years.

Condor numbers dramatically declined in the 20th century due to poaching, lead poisoning, and habitat destruction. A conservation plan was put in place by the United States government that led to the capture of all the remaining wild condors which was completed in 1987, with a total population of 27 individuals. These surviving birds were bred at the San Diego Wild Animal Park and the Los Angeles Zoo. Numbers rose through captive breeding and, beginning in 1991, condors were reintroduced into the wild. Since then, its population has grown, but the California condor remains one of the world's rarer bird species.

The condor is a significant bird to many Californian Native American groups and plays an important role in several of their traditional myths.

Personality: A noble creature at hearts, Tuinunuth is truly Kleoth's son, and well aware of it besides. He takes great pride not only in his family, but in being family-oriented, whether that family is biological or chosen - he has large wings under which he can fit many dragons and humans alike, and will be quick to take others under his wing both literally and metaphorically. He derives much of his purpose and worth from being a caretaker, and while he might not actively look for individuals to adopt...well, it happens. Easily and often. If someone looks even the least bit sad or lonely, or like they might be having a bad day, or even seem cranky, this bronze will want to help. Naturally, he will also want to know why they're feeling the way they are - all the better to help! - but if the someone in question doesn't want to talk about it, he will do his best to accept that and offer what other support he can regardless. If he happens to circle back to the subject later when they might be more amenable, hopefully they won't mind overmuch.

Tuinunuth has a hard time leaving well enough alone, even though he knows it's one of his weak points and tries to resist at least nominally. Eventually, the urge to pry will almost always get the better of him, even if he's previously been told not to. It may be later in the conversation, or a day, or a sevenday, or a month, but he will always circle back around, hoping that the subject of his concern will now be open to sharing. In his favor, he comes at it from a place of well-meaning, genuine want to help, rather than a general nosiness or interest in drama or gossip. If he has to go about it in a roundabout way, so be it - he will not hesitate to employ cuddles or perhaps a favorite meal over which a heart-to-heart can be more easily had.

Even if someone isn't in a place to need his intervention, Tuinunuth is an immensely fond and caring dragon, always ready to give and receive affection, whether in the form of boops and cuddles, gentle mental waves of love, or surprise gifts, whether it be food, something that reminded him of them, or engaging in their favorite activity with them. One would be hard-pressed to find a more attentive or selfless friend than Tuinunuth, who even when alone will spend much of his time thinking over what he can do for those he cares about. It follows that, if he ever falls in love, the object(s) of his affection will want for absolutely nothing - if it is in his reach to give, he will give it, and think nothing of the effort.

He is incredibly indulgent of his friends and loved ones, so while he comfortably occupies a caretaker role, he is not a strict caretaker at all. He is, instead, very much the antithesis of a "spare the rod, spoil the child" type. If something makes them happy, it makes them happy, and who is he to criticize or deny them? This can make him something of an enabler, and if any of his clutchmates are prone to overeating, for instance, he'll need to be watched, or he'll be sneaking them some of his own food after their rider has cut them off. In the same vein, his giving and sacrificing nature can be to his own detriment: Tuinunuth puts himself last, always, and will neglect his own happiness in favor of the happiness of others, and would never hesitate for even a moment to throw himself between danger and whomever it's coming for.

    Positive Traits: noble, sacrificing, caretaker
Negative Traits: prying, enabling, puts himself last

Grey Starry Egg: A large egg.

    Adult Size: 46 feet / 92 dragonfeet / 138 meters

Physical Attributes: An absolutely massive dragon, Tuinunuth will grow into maximum length and the physique to match it. As if that weren't enough, the span and width of his wings are as impressive as they come. These wings will take some growing into, however, and he may well go through some awkward-looking stages, though he will always bear himself with grace...except, perhaps, when it comes to taking off from the ground. This is a lot of dragon to get up into the air, so he will always prefer to drop from a height. He may also be in for some particularly heavy landings when learning to fly.

Additional Notes: If Tuinunuth's rider had any dreams about living beachside, they best give them up - this boy needs a ledge, thank you.

When it comes to romance, Tuinunuth is likely to fall easily and often, and for the whole spectrum of colors. There is no jealousy or selfishness in his hearts, and he would do especially well in a mutually agreeable cuddlepile; while his size makes him an ideal Big Spoon, he doesn't mind making adjustments so that everyone is getting what they want.

Impression Effect: The pain of the past will be washed away in an instant of pure joy. Where Brenley once may have had vivid and painful memories of his mother's still form he will no longer carry the guilt of the moment with him. Instead, those memories will be distant and softened around the edges, the pain more than halved by being carried by two. He will find himself forming much easier bonds, for Tuinunuth's gentle, caring nature will have a great impact on this quality.

K'bet of Western Weyr
(Star Flame)

User Image
    Formerly: Korbet
    Age: 28 (3548.13.02)
    Sex: Male
    Sexual Orientation: Panromantic awkward
    Rider Rank: Wingrider
    Former Rank/Craft: Harper (unofficial)

    Physical Description:
    • 6'4"
    • Thin to the point of seeming frail
    • Dark brown skin
    • Black hair
    • Grey eyes
    • Unimpressive facial hair
    • Fingers and face occasionally stained with ink, though not as often as before he Impressed
    • Stands very still while thinking; his former troupe's costume designer often used him as a mannequin
    • When not in official gear, he generally wears a lot of abandoned partial costumes and castoffs of varying sizes

Personality: Let's be honest. There's probably something a little kooky going on with Korbet's brain. Some switch in the corner of his mind that regulates boredom flicked the wrong way in the womb, leaving him forever seeking adventure he is too cowardly to pursue. Instead, he has turned to storytelling, putting his characters through the kinds of trials he wishes he had the guts to face himself.

When he's not alternately brainstorming or scribbling away, Korbet engages in an excessive amount of people-watching. He's quite adept at understanding where folks are coming from and anticipating how they will react to difficult situations, and even when he can't make an accurate guess as to how they might behave, the scenarios he does come up with are at the very least entertaining.

Though he is wary of courting the sort of danger that might get him punched or stabbed, he has no issue sampling all of the recreational substances Pern has to offer that are within his budget. (Read: not many.) He claims that they help with his creativity, but he mostly just likes the anticipatory excitement that follows experimentation. And, of course, the high. He's not proud.

( there will be things added here due to his impression effect! )

Positive Trait List: tenacious, imaginative, empathetic
Negative Trait List: nervous, preoccupied, addictive

History: The only son of an uninterested pair of riders at High Reaches Weyr, Korbet tried to make himself believe what many weyrbrats do growing up: that he would someday Impress. Deep down, he couldn't picture it. Flying through the clouds on a dragon's back. Being revered. Doing good things. As much as he might have wished he fit the mold of what he thought a Wingrider should be, realistically he knew it was quite the stretch. Between chores and lessons he spent every waking moment pursuing something he was much better at—writing—and by the time he was on the approach to his mid-20s, he had amassed hundreds of short stories and plays, as well as a decent amount of interest from a handful of traveling theater troupes.

At the feast following his fifty-first failed hatching, Korbet impulsively decided it was time to leave. It might have been the liquor talking initially, but the next morning the idea still seemed sound. He didn't exactly know where he might end up, since weyr life was all he knew, but he was certain that wherever it was, it would be more exciting than waiting around High Reaches for a lifemate that would never be born.

A month or two after his departure, he fell in with a pack of well-intentioned actors and, convinced they were performing pieces that were poorly matched to their age and experience, wrote them a short series of monologues under the collective and pretentious title of Thread Begins, I End. Audiences loved the new material, and Korbet has been traveling with the actors ever since. They're edging closer to becoming a real troupe every day, having pulled a costumer into their service as well as a shifty girl named Luz who styles herself as a cook but is mostly a bouncer.

    Other:

Former troupe (there are more of them):
      • Aimon / male / costumer
      • Luz / female / bouncer/cook
      • Doren / male / actor

Plays named in RPs so I don't forget (there are more ICly but I only add names as I come up with them, just like his troupe):
      • Thread Begins, I End
      • The Cursed Coin

User ImageBlue Rubiginth
written by magnadearel
colored by MaraRune

Origin of Name: Rubiginth's name is taken directly from the Rusty-spotted Cat's scientific name: Prionailurus rubiginosus.

    Inspiration: Rusty-Spotted Cat

The rusty-spotted cat is one of the cat family's smallest members, of which historical records are known only from India and Sri Lanka. It is the smallest wild cat in Asia and rivals the Black-Footed cat as the world's smallest wild cat.

Very little is known about the lives of these cats, although they are thought to be nocturnal. They have a reputation for being especially fierce hunters taking large prey, but their diet is likely to be small animals, and they are frequently killed for taking domestic chickens. Rusty-spotted Cats are accomplished climbers, and probably hunt in trees as well as on the ground. In Sri Lanka, they have been observed near termite hills, especially after a heavy rain, feeding on winged termites.

Personality: Rubiginth isn’t one much to talk about himself. In fact, this little blue is so allocentric, he’d much rather hear about you. Your life, your history, your funniest moments, your most embarrassing moments, your wishes, and your dreams. Anything you feel like talking about he’d love to listen to and will do so readily. His clutchmates will find him a reliable blue, always willing to take them under wing—particularly for a good chat.

He is in fact a greedy listener. Rubiginth wants to hear it all! Are you absolutely sure that’s all there was? You can’t think of any other details? Surely there’s one more bit? He has no problems trying to pry all the little details out of you; even if it makes you late for your next task. His rider will need to try to keep him on task, for this blue has no problem holding up any mission just to get to the end of a good tale.

There is no denying Rubiginth has a certain flare for the dramatic. He simply loves an exciting and intense story. Any story can be interesting with the correct telling. This blue has a powerful expressive 'voice' when he actually uses it, and he’s more than happy to teach you to use yours for the next time you need to tell an exciting story or to make a bland story thrilling. This includes vocalizations, such as growling, snarling, and crooning, and using his body language for emphasis.

For all his love of stories, this blue does have ambition. Rubiginth is one to aim high. He likes to be independent and not controlled by another. The best way to accomplish this would be to be Weyrleader, if the stars aligned themselves. However, he’d be willing to accept Wingleader or Wingsecond, and not be just some wingrider. With a motivated rider, Rubiginth could go far, or he could help light a fire under a more lazy rider. Besides, the best stories always have the best heroes, who (strangely enough) always seem to be in some sort of position of power. Why shouldn't he want to be on top? Western Weyr is just the right place for it, too.

Unfortunately, this blue might enjoy a good story, and have grand ambitions, but he may be accused of having narrow interests or being small-thinking. That doesn’t bother him. Nor will you get any sympathies when you fail at a task because you didn’t try hard enough. Rubiginth doesn’t really care to “broaden his horizons” so to speak. He likes what he likes and that’s enough for him. He isn't the sort of blue to play the long-game, which can be a problem, especially if he does ever start working his way up the ladder of rank and power. But don't tell him that—he wouldn't listen anyway.

Through it all, this blue is obvious in his goals. It’s clear from the get go what he is after and that will never change. From the moment he hatched shell, there was no doubt this blue wanted more than what he was given. There is more to his story, more to his riders, more for the two of them to gain. There is no beating around the bush or dodging the question with this blue. If he ever reaches the top, his goal will shift into keeping it all for himself and his rider.

      Positive Traits: dramatic, independent, allocentric
      Negative Traits: small-thinking, greedy, obvious

Shining Star Egg: A small egg that seems to exude a curious air about it. Why not come over and say hello?

    Adult Size: 23 feet / 46 dragonfeet / 69 meters

Physical Attributes: A narrow muzzle gives him a bit of a sinister look, particularly if he’s after the full story. While he is tiny size for a blue, Rubiginth is lithe and will excel in turns. He is small, and devastatingly quick while on wing, ever able to avoid some of the trickier patches of Threadfall.

Additional Notes: Rubiginth has a good memory for those people who have multiple interesting stories; even to the point of being able to remember who told which story. His rider will likely be the only person who can temporarily divert the blue from his main goals, but only for a little while.

When it comes to flights, he will be a fierce competitor. His speed and agility will make him popular among the greens (and blues) of the Weyr. That's just as well for him, for he enjoys a good chase. Even if he loses, there's always a good story to be told.

Impression Effect: Upon Impression, Korbet has found himself a new addiction, and that happens to be his dragon! This is one high that isn't one that's going to go away, as the good feelings and newfound support will always be there, mind-to-mind and heart-to-heart. Ultimately, his addictive nature will be heavily turned down now that he's found his lifemate.

Green Meddle

With Meddle, you rarely know what you're going to get. Some days she can be clingy, badgering Scarf for her place around Korbet's neck, and others she can ignore him entirely. At her heart, she's a good firelizard, protective and mostly well behaved.

Green Scarf

A sweet, loving flit and Korbet's most frequent companion, Scarf's primary mission is to make sure her human doesn't die in a ditch somewhere.

Green Stripe-Stripe

Stripe-Stripe has opinions. A lot of the time, they differ from everyone else's, not because she actually believes them, but because she enjoys being contrary.

Green Aah

One day, Korbet woke up with a hangover and a hatching firelizard egg. He might have shouted at the green as she flopped out onto the table beside him, and for some reason, a less startled version of the name stuck. Aah is an exceedingly intelligent firelizard, and Korbet is lucky that she happens to like him.

Bronze Vest

Vest is a happy flit who largely keeps to himself, hanging out most often for meals and when it's time to sleep. When he's visiting his keeper, he spends the majority of his time with Scarf.

Green Harper

Meddle's offspring, named by Rubiginth. Harper is a sweet girl, far less temperamental than her mother and far shyer than the profession she was named for.

    Formerly: Rykin
    Age: 25 (3551.11.07)
    Sex: Male
    Sexual Orientation: Flexible
    Rider Rank: Junior Weyrling
    Former Rank/Craft: Journeyman Woodcrafter

    Physical Description:
    • 6'3"
    • Solid, but not all that heavily muscled
    • Black hair
    • Green eyes
    • Palish tan
    • Clothes are always clean and well maintained; any embellishments are tasteful
    • His eyes are generally cautious but warm, set in a guarded face

Personality: Rykin is a very subdued individual, to a degree that he can give the mistaken impression that he's indifferent or lazy, but that's not the case at all. He does care, and very much so, about everything, and especially about the feelings and opinions of others. He internalizes incredibly well... a little too well, maybe, after years of doing his best not to be as sensitive as he really is - doing his best not to be himself, since that was someone who didn't fit in at all where he grew up. While he's had several turns to start leaving that behind, he still defaults to pretending not to be hurt, whether the harm done was physical or emotional, or intentional or not. Outwardly, he brushes off any offense to the best of his ability, and may even have something scathing to say about or retaliate against intentional slights, but will save it to be dwelled on later.

Left to himself and his thoughts, he can tend toward morose, and often has a grim or self-deprecating edge to his humor, but in good company brightens considerably. He loves deeply, is unendingly loyal, and would do anything for the people he's trusted enough to let in - and it does take him time to trust, after having to keep secrets about himself in his youth. He's very tactile with friends and lovers alike, and can edge into clingy territory; he lost most of his blood family when they disowned him, and even before that was out of place and often lonely, so consequently he is desperate to hold on to what new connections he makes. He tries not to let himself expect love, but he wants it, so very much.

He is a diligent, detail-oriented worker, but not a fast one. He takes his time to make sure that everything is done exactly how it was meant to be, and if there is an artistic or design element, looks just how he envisioned it. This, unfortunately, can lead to a lot of do-overs that slow him down, but he is a patient young man who rarely gets frustrated... although someone else may well get frustrated with him for slowing progress or being late to finish. That, much moreso than having to restart a task, will be what distresses him.

Positive Trait List: diligent, sensitive, loyal
Negative Trait List: unhurried, slow to trust, internalizes/downplays negative emotions

History: The youngest of five brothers, with one sister several years behind him, Rykin was far enough along in the string of children that he never merited much fuss or oversight.  His father, Drykstan, was a Tanner, and his mother Malbrina was simply Drykstan's wife.  She arrived by arrangement from another cothold at 15, and had her first strapping boy for him within the year.  Both were perfectly content with the situation, and very quickly grew fond of each other... and had another boy, and another, and another, and another.  The first became a Tanner like his father; the second became a Smith, the third and fourth added more Tanners to the family, which was just as well, as the first was Searched and became a dragonrider.  When he was 5, his mother finally had the daughter she'd been wanting for well over a decade, and Rykin merited even less attention from his mother than before.

As he grew, Rykin learned the family craft from his father, primarily to fill his time and do something productive until he was old enough to decide if it was indeed the craft for him, or if he preferred another.  The cothold certainly didn't need yet another Tanner, although he did have a good eye for detail and finer work.  In his youth, he was often quietly shadowed by his little sister, Nadry, and the two became close, as the babies and odd-ones-out of the family.  Where he got little attention from their mother, she got little from their father, as she was given no craft training.  But she was curious, and when no one was looking, Rykin would sometimes share with her what he was learning.

Ultimately, however, Tannercraft held little appeal for him, and in his early teens he decided that Woodcrafting would be his path.  It was different, but not so different as to raise eyebrows, but still with a strong element of design (and a lot less smell).  Though he hoped to eventually go to Hall, to start he had to apprentice to a crafter the next cothold over, and for the next two turns saw much less of his family.  He mainly caught up with them at Gathers, although that would turn out to not be such a great thing after all.  At 16, he was caught kissing a Farmer's son, and suffice to say that that did not go over well with either conservative family.  Rykin was disowned by his parents and most of his brothers, but fortunately for him, his oldest brother had been in a Weyr just long enough to have learned to disagree with at least some of his family's views.  M'yk and his brown caught up with him and gave him a ride to Lemos, where he could continue his studies properly and leave the past behind him.

He thrived at Hall, walked the tables at 20, and at some point during that time, acquired a flit, allowing him to keep in contact with M'yk as well as his sister - who, not long after he became a Journeyman, was Searched to High Reaches.  After she Impressed a brown, she became as much an exile from the family as Rykin. This has strained his previously good relationship with M'yk, since their older brother is as displeased with the turn of events as the rest of the family.

Other: M'yk (brother), Nadry (sister), Oranie (niece), Elibrie (niece)

User ImageBronze Demodeth
written by Mr Cheri
colored by demon_pachabel

Origin of Name: Démodé, meaning old fashioned in French.

    Inspiration: Old Fashioned

The old fashioned is a cocktail made by muddling sugar with bitters, adding whiskey or, less commonly, brandy, and garnishing with a twist of citrus rind and a cocktail cherry. It is traditionally served in an old fashioned glass (also known as rocks glass), which predated the cocktail. Developed during the 19th century and given its name in the 1880s, it is an IBA Official Cocktail. It is also one of six basic drinks listed in David A. Embury's The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks.

The first documented definition of the word "cocktail" was in response to a reader's letter asking to define the word in the May 6, 1806, issue of The Balance and Columbian Repository in Hudson, New York. In the May 13, 1806, issue, the paper's editor wrote that it was a potent concoction of spirits, bitters, water, and sugar; it was also referred to at the time as a bittered sling. J.E. Alexander describes the cocktail similarly in 1833, as he encountered it in New York City, as being rum, gin, or brandy, significant water, bitters, and sugar, though he includes a nutmeg garnish as well.

By the 1860s, it was common for orange curaçao, absinthe, and other liqueurs to be added to the cocktail. The original concoction, albeit in different proportions, came back into vogue, and was referred to as "old-fashioned". The most popular of the in-vogue "old-fashioned" cocktails were made with whiskey, according to a Chicago barman, quoted in the Chicago Daily Tribune in 1882, with rye being more popular than Bourbon. The recipe he describes is a similar combination of spirits, bitters, water and sugar of seventy-six years earlier.

The first mention in print of "old fashioned cocktails" was in the Chicago Daily Tribune in February 1880. However, the Pendennis Club, a gentlemen's club founded in 1881 in Louisville, Kentucky, claims the old fashioned cocktail was invented there. The recipe was said to have been invented by a bartender at that club in honor of Colonel James E. Pepper, a prominent bourbon distiller, who brought it to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel bar in New York City. With its conception rooted in the city's history, in 2015 the city of Louisville named the old fashioned as its official cocktail. Each year, during the first two weeks of June, Louisville celebrates "Old Fashioned Fortnight" which encompasses bourbon events, cocktail specials and National Bourbon Day which is always celebrated on June 14.

Personality: Demodeth is a man. Well, he's a dragon man. Frankly, there's not much that needs to be explained. He's a dragon of simple needs: good food, good company, and plenty of time to while away admiring all that nature has to offer. It's a beautiful place, the natural world, and he enjoys being out in it. Were he a human, he'd probably take up woodcrafting, but he's not a human, so he'll have to satisfy himself with taking in the sights. He also enjoys hunting fantastically well and he'll one day prove an exceptional hunter. What else is there to know?

Oh, you want to know what he's like? Well, isn't that presumptuous of you? If you must know, and there's no avoiding it, Demodeth is a very private dragon. He's no nonsense, and doesn't have time for dissembling as some others might do. While many bronzes might put on airs, Demodeth believes that his results speak for themselves. As committed as he is to working hard on his own terms, he will also do nothing that he doesn't believe in. He's smart enough to know how to delegate and more than willing to do so.

Although one might assume that he'd keep to himself, he does have a tendency to collect friendships. He does hold them at arm's length, never quite admitting what others mean to him. Still, he would die or probably kill for them. Those who have earned Demodeth's trust can satisfy themselves in knowing that they have it indefinitely. Once his opinion has been made, it's nigh unshakeable. Don't count on him forgiving and forgetting because the former is just as unlikely as the latter.

He has a particularly excellent eye for fine craftsmanship, though he does not possess the ability to make things himself. Perhaps it is part of being a bronze dragon - searching for the weaknesses within a thing, so as to protect against them. He will always know without trying too hard where he should be positioning himself within a Fall, for he will learn drills well and quickly. An intelligent though obstinate beast, Demodeth has considerable potential as a fighter, if not as a leader. Leading would require spending far too much time listening to the affairs of others.

Positive Traits: self-reliant, loyal, hard working
      Negative Traits: secretive, willful, opinionated

    Egg: A small butterfly egg.

    Adult Size: 42 feet / 84 dragonfeet / 126 meters

Physical Attributes: A solid bronze, neither the most enormous or the least, Demodeth is middling in size. He is quite well muscled, although there is a plush layer of fat covering said muscles, due to his enjoyment of a good hardy meal.

Additional Notes: It may take Demodeth awhile to find the right mate. Although he can and will chase anything that catches his eye, settling down is another matter entirely. He will have above the usual amount of stamina, though, which might serve him in Queen flights. His hobbies, as listed in his personality, occupy much of his time outside of drills.

Impression Effect: Amusingly enough, Rykin will become even better at wood craft than before - perhaps because Demodeth will be lending his eye to the work. Forget extra charisma, though, because Demodeth claims to have none. Rykin will possess hidden reserves of strength to carry him though even the toughest drills - as, no doubt, befits a bronzerider.

(Trespassers)

User Image
    Formerly: Thren
    Age: 33 (3544.05.23)
    Sex: Male
    Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
    Rider Rank: Wingrider
    Former Rank/Craft: Wanderer / Weyrbrat / Candidate

    Physical Description:
    • 5'11"
    • Pointy
    • Pale and freckled; several prominent scars on his arms, legs, and torso
    • Calloused hands
    • Dark green eyes
    • Ruddy brown hair
    • Smiles a lot
    • Doesn't like sleeves

Personality: When you and Thren are on the same page, he can appear to be one of the nicest men in the world. He is a guiding light at the forefront of many a decent cause, and his innovative solutions to common problems can seem all the more revolutionary when they come from a place of apparent respect. He has a way of projecting surefootedness even when he's hopping about, and his sheer enjoyment of life draws optimists and even the occasional cynic to his side.

When you and he do not see eye to eye, however, Thren's cheery, condescending arrogance can positively chafe. He has a tendency to treat weaker-willed people like pieces on a board, sliding them from place to place to serve his own ends. He believes that everyone should want whatever he wants, even if their circumstances render his opinions as impossible options. He has the privilege of a dragon at his back, and he has trouble understanding why people would not take extreme actions and dangerous chances to better their positions in life.

In spite of all of this, Thren is not crazy, nor does he spend every waking hour of his day fighting the atrocities of the world. He is a happy, generous sort who thinks that Pern would be a better place if everyone was having as much fun as he is.

yo a lot of stuff has changed since he came to live and high reaches and rixth almost died to thread hur hur

    will i ever update this

    who knows

Positive Trait List: honorable, creative, enthusiastic, chipper
Negative Trait List: adrenaline junkie, arrogant, stubborn, hypocritical

History: There are few who knew Thren while he was growing up who didn't believe he would one day do great things. The second most frequent phrase out of his mouth between the ages of six and eleven was, "When I grow up, I'm gonna..." and he said it with such exuberance that no one questioned it, not even his mother and father. His parents weren't close, two dragonriders brought together by flightlust, and Thren was left to the creche soon after he was named... after Thread, ominously enough. He was raised alongside a gaggle of other children in a place where riding a dragon labeled you as little more than a clown, at least in Thren's opinion. Benden's identity as a tourist weyr rubbed him the wrong way, and though one of his greatest hopes was to impress a dragon, a greater one was simply getting away from home.

Because of his disdain for weyr life, his impression mere weeks before his sixteenth nameday was a bit of a surprise—and to a bronze, no less. Rixth's presence only served to strengthen Thren's desire to leave, and it was barely half a turn after their weyrling training was complete that they abandoned Benden for a more interesting existence. One of Rixth's clutchmates, Morruth, and her rider Soel accompanied him, half out of concern and half curiosity. Things were tough for the young riders and their dragons at first, but within a handful of turns they had established themselves as reliable problem solvers, helping people far more often than they inadvertently inconvenienced them. Led by Thren, the quartet spread their sphere of notoriety through an equal mix of daring and decent deeds, taking on everything from helping to build homes to chasing bandits away from vulnerable cotholds. They mostly accept the sorts of jobs that make the world a slightly better place, but the ones that pay well don't hurt either.

Thren steered clear of a stationary existence for quite some time, but the return of Thread proved to be an irritating excuse for many of the riders he thought were better than the weyr life to go crawling back to captivity. He and Soel remained vigilant in their weyrlessness, at least until Rixth caught Fianth of High Reaches.

this needs a severe update, man

    like seriously

Other: He drinks a lot of strong klah and strongly dislikes going Between.

User ImageBronze Rixth

    Age: 17 (3560.05.05 | Temoth and Kandeth)

    Size: 43 feet / 86 dragonfeet / 129 meters

Physical Description: Rixth is a straight up SNACC. He's in his prime, he knows it, and he's never going to stop being young, healthy, and strong if he has anything to say about it. Long before his rider rises every morning, Rixth is winging his way over the continent, deadlifting rocks and practicing his barrel rolls to stay in shape. He keeps himself as perfectly toned as he can manage, and he makes sure Thren oils and scrubs his swirly hide even if there's no one around to see it. If his neck and tail are a little short and his legs a little long he would never admit as much, and he hopes his fairer traits will distract from their imperfection.

Personality: On the day that Rixth hatched, every sentient creature on Pern joined his squad, whether they knew it or not. While his greatest love and most outlandish excuses will always be for himself, he is relentlessly accepting of how others choose to behave, which can be a blessing and a curse. He relies on his rider's moral compass to know who to condemn, and without Thren, Rixth would be almost as likely to champion an abusive Lord Holder as he would an innocent child. He does have some sense, given that he would never extend his courtesy to someone who is taking advantage of another right in front of him, but he is rather easily duped, always wanting to believe the best of those he interacts with. He's a bro. She's a bro. They're a bro. You're all bros.

If that was all there was to him, the bronze might have made an above average Wingdragon. But Rixth is restless to a fault, and this quality has only been encouraged over the years by Thren's equally fervent desire to keep moving. He has an unwavering respect for weyr dragons who do what he cannot and keep the humans safe from Thread, but try as he might, a life with such strict boundaries is not for him.

M'llin of High Reaches Weyr
(Burning Aces)

User Image
    Formerly: Morellin
    Age: 25 (3552.09.24)
    Sex: Male
    Sexual Orientation: Intoxication- and flightlust-sexual
    Rider Rank: Wingrider
    Former Rank/Craft: Journeyman Healer

    Physical Description:
    • Shortish, black, wavy hair with a longer purple streak that is usually drawn into a braid (the streak, not all of his hair)
    • Purplish-gray eyes
    • Light brown skin
    • A little over six feet tall
    • Large hands, a strong jaw, and broad across the shoulders
    • Chooses clothing that makes him appear daintier than he is

Personality: While not as imposing as those who strive to become so, M'llin is still a large, bulky man who would prefer to be anything but. He has had to work very hard at containing what he sees as his unwieldy form, and over the years he has grown hedonistic and vain as a result, adopting affectations and behaviors that painted him as outwardly ineffectual so that people might not expect too much. Once you have spent any amount of time around him, however, it is easy to see that he is driven and sure of himself in everything that doesn't require him to think too hard about his thick fingers or stocky frame. He is an understanding and truly neutral man, and in his work as a healer he was often asked by his colleagues to give their patients the news they didn't want to hear. Difficult solutions just sounded more convincing coming from Morellin.

Positive Trait List: confident in his healing abilities, diplomatic, tough
Negative Trait List: vain, self-indulgent, clumsy, lacks confidence in every other aspect of his life (though pravdath continues to break him of this over time)

History: Morellin started life as a rough and rambunctious boy raised amidst a sprawling traders' caravan. He didn't think much about which particular pair of people might have been his true parents until he was around six, but even when he found out, it didn't matter. He was well loved, well fed, suitably entertained, and had the gift of attentiveness. Despite his tender age, people came to him to unload their problems, and the only times he stopped laughing and playing were when he was listening to them. It wasn't a surprise when a passing healer tapped Morellin for her Hall a few years later, and it was with little reluctance that he headed to Fort Hold to start his training.

It was the biggest mistake of his life. Or so he thought.

Training to become a healer was blisteringly difficult, especially for a little boy who was better at awkwardly tossing soft goods into carts than painstakingly stitching people up. He struggled with the simplest of physical tasks while acing all of his theoretical exams, and as the years passed, his self image fractured like a broken mirror. There was rarely any outright mockery, but Morellin had always been good at reading people, and he was well aware that his teachers were routinely disappointed. He alternated between feverish bouts of studying and overindulgence, working five times as hard as his fellow apprentices when it seemed the powers that be were tiring of him. He wanted this more than anything, but making it work felt impossible for a very long time.

He was twenty-two when he finally walked the tables, and it was only a few months after that when he was searched to stand for Rhianth and Fianth's clutches. Morellin nearly refused—it didn't seem smart to take a break from his career when it had only really just begun—but in the end, he couldn't help doing one last thing for himself.

User ImageBlue Pravdath
colored by demon_pachabel

    Age: 2 (3574.11.20 | rhianth x kronoseth)

Origin of Name: Pravda means 'truth' in Russian.

Inspiration: Veritaserum is a powerful truth serum that is clear, colorless, odorless, and nearly indistinguishable from water. The potion effectively forces its drinker to answer any questions put to them truthfully, so while its victims state what they believe to be true, their answers might not necessarily be the truth. Despite being the strongest truth serum in existence, it can still be resisted through several different methods, including its antidote and the use of Occlumency.

Personality: True to his inspiration, Pravdath is not inclined to lying, but that doesn't mean he isn't deceptive. Silence is always an option, and it's one that he takes more often than not. If that makes him seem cold, Pravdath doesn't mind. Those who get to know him understand that he gleans enjoyment from picking apart the world and understanding why people and dragons behave the way they do, though a freshly-caught wherry is pretty great too.

Pravdath is a realist. He knows there are plenty of dragons who long to shake up the system, but until he sees someone come up with a something better, he's fine with things the way they are. Maybe that someone will be him. It's certainly no one at Western, at least not yet. Sorry, Western.

      Positive Traits: truthful, intelligent, open-minded
      Negative Traits: tactless, intrusive, reserved

    Size: 25 feet / 50 dragonfeet / 75 meters

Physical Attributes: Slender and slightly on the smaller side, Pravdath's proportions are otherwise average in almost every way, specifically limb, tail, wing, headknob, and neck length. His feet are a bit larger than normal and he has wide, earnest eyes which make appear innocent, no matter how he's actually feeling.

Additional Notes: Pravdath's flame is shorter than many other smaller dragons', but he mostly makes up for it with speed and a willingness to fight to the very end of his capability. He will chase regularly but not excessively, and though he will be rather brusque about it all, he is definitely not incapable of love. For the dragon who challenges his mind and understands his unsentimental point of view he will fall hard, and once he is sure of how he feels, he will not be afraid to tell them all about it.

Impression Effect: Believe it or not, Morellin was far more buttoned up before he Impressed. Bonding with Pravdath has taken the edge off of what used to be a sharper self-hatred, and M'llin is steadily crawling toward greater acceptance. His fellow weyrlings might have noticed him growing out the purple braid, if nothing else.

V'ek of High Reaches Weyr
(Harbingers)

User Image
    Age: 24 (3553.10.04)
    Sex: Male
    Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
    Rider Rank: Junior Weyrling
    Former Rank/Craft: Journeyman Smithcraft (Jeweler)

    Physical Description:
    • 6'1"
    • black hair, shoulder length, loose waves or in a messy ponytail
    • dark blue eyes, thick lashes
    • light brown skin
    • fox-like face
    • average build
    • dexterous fingers
    • dresses simply but well, in a lot of blues and blacks

Personality: From a young age, Vannek has had an interest in the pursuit of perfection, a trait that was honed for years by his exacting career. When he was small, it was amplified through mimicry of his sister's grasping personality, which was fueled by her desire to escape the Hold they were born to, but Vannek had no such objective. Even today, his is a softer, more tolerant thirst for recognition and comfort. He believes he deserves more than life has given him: as a child, he might have had dreams of magically becoming a Lord Holder's heir, today those musings might include Impressing a dragon. He is arrogant and ambitious, more than okay with holding others down to raise his own position if need be, but he has also never been in a rush to reach this ambiguous peak.

This patience also extends to other facets of his life. He takes pride in doing things well, and if that means coddling a teammate to make sure they meet his standards, he will. He has a high tolerance for people who he believes are trying their best, though even the laziest folks he interacts with will get nothing more than smiles and lies. Vannek has watched many people dig their own graves. He can wait for you to do the same. He is rather optimistic and finds a positive attitude easy to summon. All he has to do is remind himself that he cheated death.

He loves his craft more than many things, but these days he works strictly for those who have praised him in the past, creating a feedback loop that has prevented him from making significant improvement since he walked the tables.

Positive Trait List: meticulous, optimistic, patient
Negative Trait List: haughty, lying, power-hungry

History: Twenty-three years ago, Vannek and his twin sister Viana were born to Pavia, a Smithcraft Apprentice. She never shared who their father was, but neither sibling was terribly bothered by the absence of a person they had never met. They were average children, though a little more attention-seeking than most, and they were inseparable until, well, they were separated. Viana had always been a talented singer, and at the age of 8, she was recruited to Harper Hall by one of Pavia's childhood friends.

Vannek remained at Telgar Hold, lonely and directionless for a time in the absence of his sister, but it took less than a year for him to get back on his feet and turn to smithing himself. He'd always had an almost possessive fondness for beautiful things, and between that and his eye for color, the boy branched into Jewelcraft as soon as he was able, rather than tinkering like his mother. One of the more diligent students of his day, Vannek gained a reputation for being less than precious with the trust of others outside the classroom, but not before he had made a name for himself inside of it. He was very good at what he did, and he found a singular joy in creating pieces that his patrons treasured.

The day that Thread returned Vannek was traveling, on the search for a decent place to settle for a while after becoming a Journeyman. He lost nearly everyone he had ever known back home including his mother, and in the wake of that tragedy, he couldn't help but change. While he did become more tolerant, his patience with others seemingly legendary, he also endeavored to keep them at arm's length, holding himself apart so that he can't be hurt again. The only person he is close to is his sister who he communicates with daily via firelizard.

He was very surprised to be Searched for Anakumath's clutch, since riding a dragon was never a goal he had considered, but in the weeks since his arrival at High Reaches, he has warmed to the idea considerably. What better way to deal with Pavia's death than to flame her killer out of the sky?

Other: Vannek has four very well trained flits. He obtained them by paying a decent amount to attend several 'hatchings' and get first pick of the firelizards that resulted. That way, he got to choose the ones he found the most aesthetically pleasing rather than his companions being left to chance.

User ImageBlue Nimiseth
written by Uta
colored by Meepfur

Origin of Name: In his Summa Theologica (Part 2-2, Question 148, Article 4), St. Thomas Aquinas reiterated the list of five ways to commit gluttony. Nimis — eating food that is excessive in quantity (too much) — is number three on the list, and where Nimiseth takes his name.

    Inspiration: The Sin of Gluttony

Gluttony means over-indulgence and over-consumption of food, drink, or wealth items, particularly as status symbols. In Christianity, it is considered a sin if the excessive desire for food causes it to be withheld from the needy. Some Christian denominations consider gluttony one of the seven deadly sins.

Personality: Eat, drink, and be merry... Those are the words that inspire Nimiseth everyday, much to the chagrin of his clutchmates. Everything about this blue is larger than life. Physical girth aside, Nimiseth is a very jovial and good-natured dragon. He's the sort of blue who doesn't ever seem to be down, and loves to laugh or bring joy wherever he goes. He'll be the sort of blue to cheer someone up with a good joke, or simply laugh at the folly of life. Bad things happen, certainly, but they don't often bring Nimiseth down for long. His merriment is often contagious, and he'll have little trouble making friends or bringing good cheer to every lesson and drill he's assigned. He's soundly a happy dragon, and very little can dampen his spirits.

A friend to all, Nimiseth will always enjoy making friends. He's got a story for just about every occasion, and will even talk to himself if no one else is around. He might be a blue, but there is no shyness in his hearts and no obvious temper. He has patience in droves, and doesn't upset easily. Things might go awry or look glum, but Niimseth has a way of finding some sort of silver lining.

Generous to a fault, Nimiseth enjoys giving what he can to those around him. Whether someone needs his time, his weyr, or his meal, this blue freely gives. He wants others to be as happy and joyous as he, and strives to ensure that his loves lack in nothing. His larger-than-life nature can, unfortunately, cause him to be a bit over-eager. He isn't good at tempering himself, and doesn't often read social cues particularly well. Just because his brother is getting red-eyed and baring his teeth, doesn't mean Nimiseth is going to stop going on and on about his day. Nimiseth is also likely to spook away those who are more shy or tender; not because he wants to overwhelm them, but because he just gets a little too eager. He is a bit like a bull in a china shop, and if his rider doesn't know how to keep him in line, Nimiseth might well drive away those who need a little less loud-and-proud. It just doesn't occur to him that sometimes he should tone things down or take a gentler approach. Laughter isn't always the best medicine, talking doesn't always cheer folks up, and going full force isn't always what's needed.

Lastly, Nimiseth is a glutton. He. Loves. Food. He will not only eat more than he should, even when his rider says no, but he will horde it. He will try to take food from other dragons who might not be guarding their prey, just as he will roll on his back and beg for a bite. He will eat, and then want to eat some more. He is a bottomless pit. Worse, he will take more than his share, and not think twice about it—and encourage His to do the same. While he certainly enjoys sharing food with others, rest assured Nimiseth will try to get the largest portion, or take the choicest cuts for himself. He's not always thinking of others, particularly when it comes to such a sensory pleasure as eating. Drinking is another joy—and Nimiseth will spend as much time drinking water as he will bathe in it. His will need to keep a close eye on what Nimiseth eats, for while he isn't so gluttonous as to eat things that aren't food—he will want to eat a lot, and claim he's starving even when he clearly isn't.

For a Weyr that has to preserve its resources, Nimiseth might very well cause his rider more than a little trouble.

      Positive Traits: gregarious, generous, merry
      Negative Traits: gluttonous, over-eager, oblivious

Egg: A medium sized Funfetti egg that has a few surprisingly large bumps over its otherwise smooth shell.

    Adult Size: 29 feet / 58 dragonfeet / 87 meters

Physical Attributes: Nimiseth is on the larger size for his color, and is terribly, terribly fat. Perhaps he inherited it from his mother, but this blue is, and will always be, more of a round dragon than anything. The more his rider lets him overeat, the more round he'll be. He will never be a trim dragon, and gains weight easily. Despite his roundness, Nimiseth has muscle beneath all that fat, and while he is atrocious when it comes to flying swiftly, or agilely, he seems to make up for it by having excellent flame length and an ability to take a solid hit.

Additional Notes: When it comes to matters of the heart, food is the best way to win this blue champion over. He certainly seems more interested in eating than chasing, but the right boy or girl might pique his interest. When he does chase, he's a good sport about the whole affair—and is more than happy to catch (or be caught) by anyone willing if he does lose.

Impression Effect: Upon Impression, Vannek will be transformed. With his pain and grief soothed away in an instant, the world will now be face-to-face with all that Vannek can be, unhampered by the sorrows of yester-turn. He will shine as brightly as the jewels he so carefully polishes.

Nikrys of High Reaches Weyr
(???)

User Image
    Age: 22 (3555.04.04)
    Sex: Female
    Sexual Orientation: Situational
    Craft: Smithcraft (Whitesmith)
    Rank: Journeyman

    Physical Description:
    • 6'1"
    • Long, straight, blond hair with roughly tiered bangs
    • Pale skin
    • Hazel eyes
    • Thin, sharp, graceful
    • Simple, flowing clothing
    • A fan of cosmetics, especially those that accentuate her eyes

Personality: While Nikrys is nice enough on a casual level, unless you are in need of her assistance or too interesting to ignore, she'll rarely go out of her way to interact for long. She is sharp in word and deed, always cutting to the point and taking the most direct route if possible, and she dislikes those who stall too much or try to mislead by flavoring their words. Growing up close to Bitra taught her that a dawdler's motivations are always dishonest, and that is something she has carried through to adulthood, even if it's not universally true.

Though she projects an air of distrust herself due to her calculating rationality, Nikrys is lawful to her core, only indulging chaos when those she cares for are unjustly wronged. Even then, Nikrys remains a voice of reason, encouraging others to take the high road as long as it's justifiable. Contrary to her upstanding appearance and demeanor, those who Nikrys regularly speaks to will find that she tends toward obscenity when frustrated, surprised, or even during playful banter. She tells herself if that sort of talk is good enough for her papa and uncles it's good enough for her, but her vulgarity likely also keeps people who might harm her at arm's length, consciously or not.

Positive Trait List: stable, lawful, efficient
Negative Trait List: dismissive, vulgar(ish), calculating

History: Nikrys grew up as heir to Redelha Hold, a minor farming hold two days from Bitra by runner. Her early childhood was merry, Lord Niklas and Lady Ryslin uninterested in children until they conceived one, but doting parents once opportunity knocked. She was relatively sheltered at the start of her life, taking occasional family trips to neighboring holds and learning to read, write, and figure from two of her more studious uncles. Seven of her father's brothers called Redelha home as well, and they were Nikrys's constant companions in those first few turns.

It took until just after Nikrys turned four for her lady mother to voice a conclusion she had been working toward for some time—that her child was not a son, but a daughter. When the idea was presented, little Nikrys was nodding before Ryslin had finished speaking.

    "Just like mama."

It was a decision Nikrys would always be grateful her mother had been aware enough to make, though it wasn't initially accepted by everyone in the family. Kaelas, Nikrys's oldest uncle, already resented her for taking his place as heir of the hold, and he took the opportunity to say some hurtful things that Nikrys didn't understand at the time and certainly doesn't remember. He did quickly apologize, but Ryslin has never forgotten and is prone to distrusting her brother-by-marriage to this day.

Overall, this revelation changed little at home. Nikrys had always been interested in her father's smithing and as she grew, she spent more and more time learning the subtleties of shaping tin and mastery of the lathe. She left for Smithcraft Hall at 9, and was a diligent worker throughout her training, even while dealing with the disappointments of puberty. One friend in particular, a Southern Boll girl named Ijira, helped Nikrys extensively during this time, planning outfits that complemented her height all while creating some truly inspirational gatework. Much to Nikrys's relief, modulating her voice came far easier, as she'd had plenty of practice imitating her courtesan-trained mother over the years. She continued to prefer forging intricate locks and buckles, and together the girls walked the tables with top marks. They set out as a team, assuming that locks and gates were in greater demand as a package deal than alone, but their brief partnership came to an end when a search dragon at Crom expressed interest in Nikrys. With a tearful goodbye, she left for High Reaches, too curious to ignore the call.

While she is very excited to see hatchling dragons up close, regardless of whether or not she Impresses, Nikrys is a little nervous about cultivating a whole new circle of acquaintances as a candidate, something she's never been very good at.

    Other:

User ImageBlue Iscarioth
written by tsunake
colored by zaikt

Origin of Name: This blue takes his name from Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve Apostles. Judas sings the song Heaven on Their Minds, which Iscarioth is based on.

Inspiration: "Heaven on Their Minds" — Jesus Christ Superstar

Personality: There’s a certain something about this blue that immediately draws the eye. He is sure of himself in a quiet way, needing no praise or assurances to bolster his ego, and his composure makes him difficult to read. He may often be found on the outskirts of social gatherings, listening and watching instead of being right in the thick of things. Though some may interpret this as indifference to others, Iscarioth cares deeply about his fellows and desperately wants to keep them safe from that which might hurt them. He cannot--will not stand idly by while there are those who irresponsibly wield their power without any thought of the consequences they might inflict on others. Specifically, he looks to the leadership of High Reaches with a critical eye, scorning how some seem to deem chromatics as replaceable. To Iscarioth, this is unacceptable. The wingleaders say they will take care of them, but are they punished if their bad calls result in the injury or death of another? No. As he will never be able to be in a position to back up his words with actions due to his color is a source of endless frustration for Iscarioth. Worse, he knows that his thoughts would simply be dismissed as the ramblings of yet another malcontent chromatic if he dared to voice them.

Iscarioth is too intelligent to throw himself at the issue in a way that will get him labeled as a problem, and so he uses other methods to try and further his cause. Despite his quiet nature, he is a surprisingly charming dragon, drawing others in with easy conversation and a genuine desire to listen to what they have to say. He will especially seek to befriend metallics that are less traditional in their mindset, hoping that their influence can aid his cause. Though he has the best of intentions, Iscarioth will not hesitate to use others to further his goals. His lack of any real power at High Reaches means he must resort to manipulation and flattery, and he is exceedingly skilled at doing so. Those chromatics that believe in the system will be viewed with pity, but Iscarioth will not waste time in attempting to persuade those who will not listen.

Though he can be social when he chooses, Iscarioth is an intensely private dragon who hides behind his charisma to mask his real self. Only his rider will know his true thoughts and feelings, and perhaps a very few special others. It’s easier to hide his feelings. He has a tendency to brood and get caught up in his own thoughts, bitterly reflecting on what could have been if he had been born bronze, instead. It will be up to his rider to help guide him out of his unhappy thoughts, for Iscarioth will mull over what could have been rather than focusing on what he has.

      Positive Traits: protective, intelligent, charismatic
      Negative Traits: bitter, brooding, manipulative

    Adult Size: 60 dragonfeet

Physical Attributes: Iscarioth is a larger blue and a very handsome one as well. He is slender rather than muscular with long limbs, giving him a very sleek appearance.

Additional Notes: It takes a very special dragon to rouse Iscarioth from his ledge for a flight, for he is not often inclined to chase. He guards his hearts carefully, but should he find his one and only, there will be no one more devoted and loving. Iscarioth is also a fierce Threadfighter, and won’t hesitate to take a hit meant for another even if it might endanger his own life to do so.

Impression Effect: Vulgarity will not be tolerated, or at least, not as much as it used to be. While there is no harm in cursing like a sailor, Nikrys will find that she's a little less foul-mouthed than before. She'll inherit some of Iscarioth's charm, or at least approachability. She might still struggle making friends, but it doesn't seem quite as difficult as it once did before.

Bherrus of High Reaches Weyr
(Candidate)

User Image
    Age: 14 (3563.07.08)
    Sex: Male
    Sexual Orientation: Future pansexual
    Craft: n/a
    Rank: Weyrbrat

    Physical Description:
    • 5'7"
    • Tousled, chin length black hair
    • Medium brown, freckled skin
    • Green eyes
    • Well worn, secondhand, adventure-friendly clothing
    • Muscley for a fourteen year old

Personality: Bherrus is an excited weyrbrat. An elated weyrbrat. A joyous weyrbrat. A helpful weyrbrat. He only stops smiling when he's sleeping, which might be annoying to some, but he has never heard anyone complain about it. It's not that no one has, he just isn't listening.

He is an innocent young man, rushing through life without any direction at all, and is content to obey those he has obeyed his entire life. Bherrus is not completely without smarts, doing decently enough in his studies, but he makes no effort to think critically about what he has learned and apply that knowledge to new circumstances. Instead, he has a tendency to spout things he has been taught and advice he's been given by people he looks up to as if they are automatic fact, especially if his statements correct something he perceives as wrong. Bherrus has no chill in situations like these, and most of the time he comes off as the odd combination of a clueless child and a know-it-all.

He loves exerting himself above all else, and the only true hobby he has is exercising in as many ways as there are muscles.

Positive Trait List: obedient, wholesome, athletic, optimistic
Negative Trait List: vacant, naive, ambitionless, parrots others/know-it-all

History: His parents were blueriders. They only stayed at High Reaches long enough to drop him off and have never returned. That's all he knows. It's all he needs to know. He tells himself he doesn't care, and he truly doesn't most of the time, but he has an obvious fondness for the color and underneath his wide grin there is an expectant expression for any who have bonded to a dragon of that hue. He looks to them all as if they might be his parents, regardless of how young they are or how ill-suited.

Life at High Reaches is everything he could wish for, and he lives each day with the exuberance of an intrepid explorer. Stable duty? Awesome. Peeling tubers? Glad to help! Workouts? Yas! Bherrus is a sweetheart and rarely causes trouble because, 1) he never thinks of any to get up to on his own and 2) he isn't recruited by any of the naughtier kids due to his tendency to tell the truth to every figure of authority he interacts with. Instead, he does what's expected of him, he sometimes does it well, and he'll keep doing it until someone tells him otherwise. Or he dies. Whichever comes first.
