V'ime of green Rhodonth

The chuckle from Niviora drew another slight eye roll from Vimeran - he knew there was an argument hidden under it, but now wasn't the time to talk. Now was the time to focus. One foot, then the next, then again...their progress was slow, but they'd only gone a few steps before he realized the dragons were heading their way. Great. They didn't look intent on causing harm, but when the lighter of the two greens had hatched Niviora had tensed up, and that was the one galloping ahead of the darker. They both paused and Vimeran was ready to shove Niviora out of the way, but before he could, a voice called out to him.

VimeranMine, don't let her fool you! Your Rhodonth is the best and only green for you! Please don't be swayed by her... her... uncouth behavior!

Oh. Wait. That was...hold on. In his head? VimeranMine? Was this tiny, soft green now trotting towards him...his?

Of course I'm yours, you silly man, Rhodonth said as she reached Vimeran. By now Niviora had moved away to greet her own green which left Vimeran standing there by himself, staring down at the pale green dragon as she came to stop before him. Rainbow eyes looked up and through him, shaking Vimeran to his core. He stood speechless for a moment before sinking into the warm sand, still staring at the delicate creature before him. He felt as though his rough, calloused hands weren't worthy of touching her hide and indeed, she gave a soft, delicate sniff.

So long as they are clean, my dear, you may touch me. In fact, please do. Come now, close your mouth, that's quite unbecoming of a gentleman.

Vimeran snapped his mouth shut (when had it opened?) and reached out to brush his fingers along Rhodonth's smooth, perfect hide. There were so many intricate markings he got lost for a moment simply staring and coming to the realization that she truly was his. She was reading his thoughts without him even trying to speak to her and he could feel her hunger, her delight in finally being out of her shell and here with him, and just a bit of annoyance at the celebration going on beside them. Quite the show, wasn't it? No decorum.

"Uh- um." Vimeran swallowed thickly as emotions he'd never felt before started to war for attention with him. Happiness was one he was familiar with at least and he latched onto that desperately as he scooped up the small green. Rhodonth seemed pleased about being carried and she arranged herself quite daintily in his arms, lifting her head to bump her snout against his cheek.

There's a good man. Now, shall we? I could do with something to eat.

"Of course." It seemed Niviora and her dragon were ready to go as well and Vimeran glanced over at them as they passed by. Rhodonth didn't give her sister the time of day from her perch in Vimeran's arms but the new greenrider certainly did. She was right, wasn't she? He'd be here now for the foreseeable future.

Less thinking, more walking please, the little green hummed from Vimeran's arms. Or, perhaps if you'd like to think and walk, consider shortening your name? It's the upstanding thing to do, after all. Her tail coiled tightly around his arm as V'ime began to walk, agreeing with Rhodonth immediately. As he followed Niv and her dragon to the feeding area he slowly began to realize just how much his life was going to change with Rhodonth in it. He never expected such a dainty, ladylike dragon to want him. Yet here he was and, honestly?

He couldn't be happier.

Ke’res [WW] - 22 - she/her/hers - Weyrling of Brown Rossoth

Impression post

“I think it was because the egg was struggling to hatch, and a candidate thought it’d be a good idea to try and break the shell to help.” Clearly, it hadn’t been the right idea, even if the intentions had been well-meaning. She couldn’t remember the candidate anymore- that hatching had a blurry ending for her, and was over a Turn and a half ago now.

“Hey, Brenley…” She spoke quietly, watching as the last of the eggs hatched. Beautiful green dragons spilled from within. “Do you think you’ll continue to Stand until you age out?” She was trying to stay positive. Kel heard the greens telling them to perk up, and she tried for a mask of bravery, reaching deep within to summon the effervescent Rivercrest smile. Duty called, no matter what voice it had- she had chosen to accept candidacy and had to see it through…

But part of her missed the simple life she had fallen into back at her Hold, and she wondered, even at this crucial moment, what her mother would say if she did Impress. She’d been agreeable to the notion on the condition that Kel would continue in her duties, but… if she Impressed… “Aren’t they pretty… it’s worth it, just to see them hatch and Impress. I wish it were us… but sometimes these things…” She paused, a niggling sensation in the back of her mind.

Like she was being watched, or judged, or something… The sensation weighed on her, and she felt as though something was slowly peeling back each layer of her soul, each mask she had crafted as if to inspect the heart that lay beneath. She took a shallow breath, not daring to look around in case she was about to be-

no. He would never hurt her.

There was no menace, no malice in those rainbow eyes- only love. He knew. And now she knew too- the subtle, warm depths of his love pulling her towards him, wrapping her up. They were tied to each other now, the web of her solitude broken, joined by his everlasting presence. Keleres, are you ready to take me to the feeding tables? Your Rossoth is finished sorting out this mess.

Keleres could hardly breathe. Her whole world spun, reality and dream overlapping in a single, everlasting moment. She had always craved a place to call home- and all those Turns had described it as the place where people found her useful, where she had a purpose, a part to play, a job to finish… She had never thought about herself- only what she could do, or bring.

Now it was wherever he was- wherever Rossoth might rest his head or stretch his wings. Her soul was renewed once more, whole and complete, and the specter of an orphaned child was finally laid to rest. He needed her as much as she needed him- two sides of the same mark.

Keleres- Ke’res now, in her mind- laid a hand on his head, tears slipping past the broken, smiling mask. “Oh, Rossoth… of course. I think I’ve always been ready.” She scratched his head, reassuring herself that he really was, well… real.

“Good luck Brenley. I believe in you.” If not this hatching, then the next. “The magic… the moment… it’s worth waiting for. Trust me.” The words stumbled out of her mouth, unsure, but determined to make themselves heard.

Hunger made her stomach ache, and she found herself gazing at Rossoth in fascination, her expression one of awe and adoration. That the feeling of his own hunger was so accessible to her… of course, the lessons had prepared them for this possibility, but it did not describe the reality of it- not the true extent of it, at least. It was so raw, so primal… it would be an interesting few sevendays to come, that much was certain.

As she passed the remains of the Orange Galaxy egg, an odd sensation came over. For some strange, inexplicable reason, she found herself bending over to gather a few of the biggest pieces. Fleeting fancy? Her thoughts touched briefly on the prospect of making a necklace from it, before Rossoth curled around her mentally, his presence soothing and yet also… grateful? She smiled at him, reverent and glad. He was as mysterious as his stealthy approach had made him seem, and she knew she had only experienced the beginnings of their bond. “I have so much to learn, don’t I…” She muttered as she approached the tables by his side.

Perhaps, but it isn’t such a bad thing. We have a whole lifetime to do so. He assured her, standing apart from the hubbub that was his siblings’ miniature party so that he might eat in peace.

Ke’res helped herself to a bucket of meat, having stashed the pieces of shell away, and began to feed him. Finally, at long last, she felt at home.

Tosk [WW] - 19 - he/him/his - Star Flame Rider of Bronze Ussurianth

Tosk managed a rare smile for his aunt, who he didn’t see hardly enough despite now living in the same Weyr. It was so strange to revisit that part of his life, but Ada had always been kind to him as a child. She had been softer and gentler where his father- her brother- had been much stricter and unforgiving. The cool aunt, as Kito used to describe her.

“I’m all right… Ussurianth and I have… we were tapped for a wing.” No doubt she had probably watched that momentous occasion, but he was happy. There was actual emotion in his voice (okay, it was pride, but he was getting close to emotion). “Star Flame.” He didn’t want to say it was O’dyn’s wing- she didn’t need to be reminded of him, today of all days.

He peered down at Orry, who was still surrounded by companions of the male persuasion. “She does look… good. Happy.” He added, trying to think about the best way to phrase things. Orry was a happy person. She was so full of spirit and… there was this aura about her, this unshakeable, unforgettable effervescence that still lingered in his mind…

That dragonet is eating sand. Ussurianth remarked softly to Tosk, whose glance moved to a blue. And that gold queenling... Ussurianth kept the end of his remark to himself, but Tosk detected a sensation of unhappiness. The man felt his dragon cast a glance towards his golden sisters, as if holding the newest gold in judgement against them, and finding her wanting.

You never know- she might grow into a more focused dragon…

Perhaps... He settled back once more, humming. That bronze is taking too long to decide. Perhaps he does not understand what is required of him... His eyes were on the dragonet hidden amongst the Butterfly egg. Tosk shook his head, flicking hair from his face. He’ll be fine. He’s just waiting for something, no doubt. Ussurianth was being unusually judgemental. That brown is very stealthy... There was a note of appreciation in his voice, and Tosk shrugged. “He has… thoughts. I think he appreciates some of them.” That would be perhaps a fairer judgement than deserved, but he didn’t want to upset the mood.

As the sand-eating blue discovered that sand was, in fact, not that tasty, he looked up, rainbows dancing in his eyes. Tosk didn’t realise how significant that moment was until Orryxa laughed out loud- that sound could steal his attention from his ears and sharpened his focus once more. Was she… crying? His fists clenched almost of his own accord-

Relax… the silly blue believes her His.

Be nice! Tosk scolded the bronze immediately, rising to his feet as he watched the young woman move forwards.

Isteth.

“Isteth…” Tosk repeated, sliding back into his seat as he recomposed himself- the surge of adrenaline now fading. She was fine- better than that, actually. Flashes of his own Impression came to mind, and his heart warmed for a moment. It was the best feeling in the world.

He would have to go and see her. He would have to say something. He needed to find the right words. And maybe… and maybe if he was brave enough, he might even ask her to dance later- if she was willing.

Shells.

The rest of the eggs hatched and Impressed, with a little bit of strife and struggle thrown in for good measure. It wasn’t unusual, and Tosk was less attentive now that Orry had found her bondmate. She wasn’t going to be hurt now that she had Isteth- not now, not ever again. The hatching came to an end, and Tosk clapped as the final Impressions were made. “Are you coming to the Feast?” He asked his aunt, wondering if perhaps he ought to ask her if his shirt was suitable enough for the event… for some reason, he just wanted to look… good. Or better than usual.

You look fine. You do not need to look any different.

Mr Cheri
For Ada and Orry!

Brenley

"I... um..." To be honest, he hadn't thought about where he might be twelve years from now, considering that the last two had been so wildly impossible to predict. But the dragons were pretty, he supposed, when they weren't...

Brenley froze as the brown appeared at his fellow candidate's side, suddenly fearful that something devastating was about to happen. But something was already happening, and it wasn't devastating at all. Bren watched in fascination as the hatchling's eyes spun rainbows and Keleres began to cry. His feet had taken a couple of steps back without his permission, but he was still close enough to hear the dragon's name and the woman's well wishes as they retreated past Rossoth's discarded egg and toward the tables.

He waved a temporary farewell, unsure of what his face was doing at the moment. What he did know was that he had a lot to think about.

Candidate Omurntas he/him - Western

With the bulk of the clutch impressed, there was a slight lull with the remaining dragonets. He glanced towards Purple/Teal Swirl and Spotted Green as a bit of spark and a hiss came from them, but quickly quieted. There were five dragonets still to find their riders. He'd wait til the last.

Omurn tilted his head as Golden Flourish chided the candidates. I am Omurntas. What more did he need to say? He smiled to himself as one of the candidates did go into a speech about himself. Spotted Green sat and called her rider from among the candidates. Then Orange Galaxy picked out his rider.

The two competing greens headed in the same direction and quickly found their own riders. Well and good. He tilted his head. That only left one didn't it? With the sands otherwise clear it didn't take the bronze long to call to his rider. And that was the end. Omurn gave a stretch, ready to be off these hot sands.

B'den and Green Riojath she/her - Western

B'den laughed. "Yes I do believe that he certainly makes up for it." I can race too! Riojath pipped up cheerfully. Hello Chinanazith! Congrats on finally joining us. Her eyes whirled happily as she chewed carefully on another small piece of meat.

Riojath turned her head towards the hatching sands for a moment before looking back at her rider. I believe the hatching is over now mine. B'den smiled and waved as the last of the new hatchlings came to join their siblings at the feeding table.

R'in and Demodeth

With the competitive greens safely impressed, Rykin's shoulders slumped a little as he stepped back into the spot that had been his for the duration of the hatching. He was aware that a single bronze remained, but the thought of such a standoffish dragon being interested in him...

    It seemed entirely unlikely.

He folded his hands, calmly waiting to see who the hatchling chose so that he might be permitted to get out of these robes and prepare to visit with his sister. A silent minute passed, maybe two, before a voice rolled through his head, somehow both young and very, very old.

Well, Rykin... I suppose it's time.

Despite the heat of the sands, Rykin found the tips of his fingers growing tingly and cold and the edges of his vision darkening as he involuntarily held his breath.

Your Demodeth does not want to spend a moment longer with this charade.

Beneath the brusque irritation and clawing hunger, R'in felt an outpouring of love like nothing he had ever experienced. His heart swelled with a matching wave of devotion in return, and it drove him forward until he stood beside the dark fort Demodeth had erected around himself. By the time R'in lifted one perfect half of his shell away, the bronze's eyes had settled on a satisfied royal purple that quickly shifted to mediocre blue as he was fully uncovered.

    I saw that.

You saw that I cherish and adore you over everything else on Pern? I wasn't trying to hide it. Seeing as how they now shared a mind, Demodeth didn't need to add from you, but R'in would have understood regardless. Though they held their emotions close to their chests for very different reasons, both rider and dragon knew doing so was vitally important. No one needed to know how badly they could hurt you. R'in felt a sharp flick of negation. No. No one had any business knowing anything of personal importance to begin with.

For the first time in nearly a decade, the knot deep in R'in's chest that had settled there when his family had ostracized him loosened and slipped away. There was a shimmering shield around his heart, a structure to his future that made what he had thought was essential seem small by comparison. He smiled, a grin so large they could see it in the stands.

Enough of that. I'm looking forward to my first meal. And then, you'll show me your figures. Demodeth finally rose again, stretching briefly before leading R'in toward the feeding tables, head held high. He didn't bother to hide it when his eyes swirled purple this time.

Dipsi- Westen Weyr

"And thats it!" Dipsi announced as the last bronze made his way to his chosen partner and brought an official end to the the hatching. " You're right, no one was seriously hurt in this one, but speaking of hurt, lets get you to the healers. You can't argue with me now." She beamed at her and nodded firmly in the direction of the medical area where other dragons and candidates were being treated.

"As for me being at high reaches...I don't know about that. I'd certinatly like to see you again but I don't like how high reaches treat the non metallics or their female riders. So I might just stand for western for now."

Odd

Well so that was a hatchling. Odd stretched now that she could without drawing undue attention, well unpleasant attention. She rocked on her feet and flicked her hair from her face before heading off the sands to wear some actual clothing.

Jemi

A good hatching really, outside of one sort of serious wound most of the others looked alright and things were okay. She felt good really, what was done was done and it was time to move on... maybe.

Whren
It might have started with the dismissal in the past clutches about two or so back, but what ever it was, Wens heart just broke. And thinking back maybe he had been lying to Nadia last clutch trying to keep hopeful and focus and now it was less, that the dragon for him hadn't hatched and more was something wrong with him.

Surely something had to be? The eggs hadn't really spoken to him in ages it seemed and he hadn't been spared a glance and now it was pushing on him. He was tired, of being hopeful and nothing coming from it and maybe he had just put too much hope in this.

Maybe he should just stop caring and try to figure something else.
