Ticene // She/her // High Reaches (Just a lot of summary drivel)
The Touching had been... uneventful. Which wasn't really encouraging. None of the eggs had seemed all that attached to her. Talking to other candidates had convinced her that even the eggs that had showed an interest in her had been just as interested with most people. Ticene had thought that she'd touch an egg one day and she would just know. The spark would be instant and there wouldn't be any second thoughts about it. Other candidates said it didn't work like that. That one of the dragons might want her, even if they showed an interest as eggs. She tried to hold onto that thought. Standing among the other candidates she struggled to think how a baby dragon would even be able to find her among everyone else?
The candidate's fingers twisted in her robe as she tried not to think about it. She should try and enjoy the hatching. After all candidates got the best view in the house. And really, how often did someone get to see a double clutch? The sands had a distinctly crowded feel to it with so many eggs, dragons and humans around. After the clutch on the beach though, Ticene felt like every hatching would feel cramped from here on in. She wasn't really made for caves. The sand was pleasant though. Who didn't love some hot sand? It was a good thing the candidate was fond of it. Since it looked like they would be here for some time. Five down, over thirty more to go.
The first to hatch had been a bronze. The was supposed to be a good sign. Something about letting the bronze have the first pick from the candidates, or indicating a healthy clutch. Something like that. He was a confident one, that much was certain. Posing and making sure he was getting enough attention. Ticene gave him his due, although she doubted that a bronze seeking his rider gave much of a hoot what she thought one way or another.Clearly someone had upset him though, what with the hissing, but it didn't seem to last long either way. Not long after that a bronze had hatched. What did it mean when the first egg from both clutches was bronze? Was that doubly as fortunate?
There wasn't too much time to wonder on that though. Things were really starting to get active as more eggs started to work on hatching. Although the next onto the stage didn't seem to need to work on it much at all. Just busted her way straight out. The action made Ticene smile. It was just a striking thing to do. The newest arrival seemed to just be full of spirit and that was certainly a good thing. There was one egg that didn't seem ready to hatch at all. Even though there were gaps in their shell they didn't seem to want to come out. At this early stage Ticene didn't think there would be much pressure. Not like that egg before that had made them wait for hours before it had finally decided now was the time. With so many other eggs that hadn't even started moving, that one could surely afford to take their time.
They seemed so shy that Ticene actively turned her focus away. She couldn't really see anyway. With the bronze, the egg, and now the dragonet's protective father; she couldn't really make out what they were. There was plenty of speculation rippling amongst the crowd. Still Ticene focused on the prancing green. It was probably stressful having so many people stare. Hopefully the hatchling would get their courage soon. The green helped her sister- uh, cousin? The point was she helped another green hatch. Although the second green didn't seem like she was all too proud of her entrance. Poor baby.
Clapping caught her attention and Ticene managed to catch a glimpse of the first impression as the bronze seemed to almost wrap himself around the candidate. It was touching. No matter how many times you saw impression there was something about it. Maybe in a decade she would be more jaded, but not today. Not while those two held each other, without a care for who saw how much they loved each other. It was hard to imagine that there would come a time when she wouldn't find such a sight heartwarming. Sound caught her focus and Ticene turned from one lovely sight to another. A gold, with her chosen rider holding her face with such love. Where had the youngster come from? A quick glance around gave her answer. So, that was the shy little one.
A squeak pulled her out of her trance. Ticene quickly glanced away when she realised she had been openly staring at not one, but two impressions. That seemed rude. She looked for a source of the squeak, but saw only a blur of green. Ah, there went the spirited one. Straight past a blue? Ticene really needed to keep a better eye on the eggs. Casting a quick look over the clutch the candidate assured herself that she hadn't missed any other new arrivals, before looking back and seeing the green practically run down the lad she chose. Well, Ticene had said she was spirited. She wished the lad the best of luck with that one. Something told her he was going to have an active life ahead of him. Although she couldn't say she didn't envy him for it.

Sylfie Had they been in a properly comfortable chair instead of up in the middle of the Stands, Sylfie would have been more than ready to give Regory a real cuddle, all wrapped around him and cooing, but their current situation was not at all conducive to that. She did make little soft sounds as she stroked him - only to realize that yes, she was making those noises and maybe even swaying just a little in the company of a stranger. Ah. Ahem. Hopefully he was, uh, paying more attention to Theo and not to her. She was perfectly happy not to be the center of attention (or have much at all really, even on the fringes), and so she hadn't felt left out at all when her Harper friend took up the conversation Korbet had started fairly readily.
It saved her from having to say much! She would sit and pet Regory and watch the Hatching, and wonder after her friends down on the Sands. Would Iathe or Zelaya find Theirs today? She hoped so, or that at the very least no harm would come to either of them. But then- Then he had to go and say that, and she ducked her head and turned quite a shade. "I don't- I, well- I...we might have some things i-in common, but I don't...I'm not sure perfect is one of them," she stuttered out with a nervous laugh. Perfection not so much, but definitely anxiety. "But I- Thank you."
Her eyes went back to the Hatching, fixing stubbornly on the events below. They were ever so interesting, with more dragons Impressing and breaking their shells.

Keleres [WW] - 21 - she/her/hers - JM Masseuse (spy)
Quote: open, in love with the new blue. heart
demon_pachabel Tagging for thoughts for Let It Go! heart
Keleres was on an emotional roller-coaster. She stifled a laugh, watching the enthusiastic green lick a sibling’s (cousin?) foot. She wondered at what the Slytherin-bronze might have been saying to its siblings… and, of course, her heart melted to see Kronoseth dote on his child in such a way. And to watch the young gold take her first, shaky steps towards her future… well…
This was a good reason to be a candidate. This was, in fact, a very grand reason indeed. Some people might have felt distracted, distant, perhaps even disconnected as they waited, consumed by doubt and fear and worry… but Keleres felt elated. She absorbed that effervescent hatching energy, and it transformed her.
Her attention was drawn to the rather regal hatching of Let It Go, and her breath caught in her throat. Now… there was majesty incarnate. She wanted to bow, and repressed another chuckle. She couldn’t quite stop the creeping blush from spreading across her cheeks, warring with her fiery hair. Hopefully the blue didn’t remember her initial awkwardness… But if you do remember me… well… I just wanted to let you know that I think you’re amazing. She tried to wish the newborn well, to send it positive thoughts… but did it work that way? Could she bespeak a dragon she hadn’t Impressed, without any real practice or training at all?

Haelwen She watched as the gold made it's way by her and towards a gathering of girls before seeing rainbow swirling in her eyes as well. Haelwen smiled and offered her congratulations and returned her focus to the unpaired dragonets on the sands. Just as she was eyeing the greens a beautiful blue made a very grateful appearance from its own egg and Haelwen let out a breath of awe. Blue had always been her favorite color, it was the color of the sky, and the sea, and of the pendant her mother had given her as a small child that she still wore around her neck. After a moment of being awestruck she scanned the Sands again to find the first green had impressed as well, to a boy no less, and she smiled in their direction then looked back to the bronze, green, and blue still left unpaired. Who would appear next? Or perhaps she should be wondering who would impress next?
Hyseren Impressions were happening quickly, first the gold, then a blue hatching from a nearby egg, and then the playful green came running past and impressed to a boy he didn't know well. Hyseren shifted his weight and turned his gaze into the blue nearby. What a handsome fella he was.

Akaris She clutched Rylyrr a little more tightly when Hufflepuff finally made its move, breath caught in her throat - not because the hatchling was gold, but because she was invested, silently cheering for her and hoping for her to get to Hers and be happy. And she did! Akaris relaxed a bit and let out a sigh of relief. Good for her! You go, baby! And then happy little Felix found her rider, and Let It Go hatched into a very handsome blue. Where might he go? There wasn't much time to wonder after that, though, as Crucio burst red-eyed into the world.
Uh-oh. She watched the green warily, but reminded herself to think positive thoughts. As long as the hatchling didn't come this way, she could...probably maybe handle that.

Tarnaria
As the blue stepped from his egg, another dragon impressed! Tarnaria admired the little green, so delicate and sweet looking, but also so excited! She was simply adorable! Oh, Tarnaria couldn't wait to see the little dragon grow up! And then she recognized something in herself, something she'd not paid too much attention to yet - She couldn't wait to see if she herself would Impress this time! She wondered, too, was there another Gold hiding in there? There were two clutches, and the girls hadn't yet moved to join the boys, after all.
Lady Grey
Ah, another impression! And then another hatching and... Oh dear... That baby green looked angry, and Lady Grey was suddenly happy she wasn't down on the Sands. That looked like the kind of dragon Jacomus said his brother was afraid of, the kind that would claw at people to get to theirs. Beware indeed, Lady Grey worried now for the people down below, as while the babies had been calm and polite, this one did not look it.

Siv
Siv watched the dragons lazily, demeanor relaxed as her head turned to watch Crucio. With nobody to talk to, she had ample time to observe. This hatchling, for example, seemed angry. Well, someone must have offended her somehow, and Siv pitied the poor soul, even as she mentally reminded herself of what to do if the dragonet came for her. And then she dipped her head at Crucio politely. Have fun, kid, she seemed to say. SIV didn't mind if she watched some bloodshed.
Amila
Nope. Amila wasn't leaving her small hiding area on the Sands, hudding near the stands. She couldn't see if Crucio wanted to off her, or where the dragonet planned to go, but she was angry and that was just scary, Amila covering her head poreemptively to shake. Nope. She was scared and now afraid a dragonmight hate her. Nope, forget it she wanted a cuddle, now, please.

Taibbi | High Reaches Candidate | she/her/hers
It seemed to Taibbi that the first several Impressions happened all at once. The bronze finding his young man, and then the heart-stopping moment when the shy gold finally emerged from her egg and Impressed with an absolute minimum of fuss, to be followed by the cheery green who had found hers among the boys as well. Not to mention the other dragonets who had hatched but had yet to find their bonds, and those still working on hatching.
Even with her attention pulled in so many directions at a time, Taibbi couldn't help the surge of disappointment that tugged at her when the shy gold hadn't even glanced in her direction as she went to claim her rider. In truth, she was intimidated by the idea of Impressing a queen, but what little girl didn't, at some point, dream of doing exactly that? She had to remind herself sternly that she had already been given more opportunity to do so than most of the girls of Pern who only dreamt of it, and that it was perfectly dreadful of her to be disappointed.
Resolutely, Taibbi turned her thoughts to the dragons currently on the sands, doing her best to think the same sort of welcoming, encouraging thoughts she'd been instructed to cultivate at the touching. She'd been practicing those, after all, and she was fairly certain she'd gotten it down.
Reya - Western Standidate | she/her/hers
In the stands, Reya found that her legs were beginning to ache and she realized that her muscles had been tensing with the excitement of the sudden spate of hatchings and Impressions. With a surreptitious glance toward her brother, who she hoped would not notice, she reached down and began to massage her sore thighs and calves. Fortunately, R'bin was far too engrossed in the hatching to pay attention to something as trivial as his little sister fidgeting.
"I hope the girl who Impressed the gold is up to that challenge," R'bin remarked to her. He'd stood to cheer the green's Impression, but had just seated himself once more. "There's a lot of responsibility for a gold, even a very junior one like that one will be, and it looks like her rider's going to have to shoulder more of it than usual."
Until he'd mentioned it, the idea hadn't occurred to Reya, but she found herself nodding, gaze still on the sands. Absently she responded, "Surely the dragon knew what she was about. And aren't these candidates trained for the possibility?"
Though she voiced confidence in the gold, a part of her now wondered how fair it was to thrust people as young as these candidates into positions where they would be risking their lives fighting thread with flame thousands of feet above the ground. Add to that, the idea that a dragon was more or less forced into a position of authority if it happened to have a metallic hide, Reya began to think that the traditional Weyr structure might have some flaws. Western's was different, she knew, and after this hatching she meant to learn more about it.
