Both rider and dragon yelped - and very involuntarily so. Perhaps it was Karma for missing their inspection. The two pulled away, Ichta taking a moment to assess the damage while her body, and Aurinkoth's, both throbbed painfully.

Aurinkoth wasn't a very big dragon, and Ichta was not a hardy woman, so for them to take a similar hit would have been disastrous.

And in fact it was when it happened near immediately after. Yes. This was Karma for missing the inspection. Oh, she was sure there would be judgement later, but first...she was getting her poor boy back to the Bowl.

Maybe they weren't as in tip-top shape as Aurinkoth had thought, as the winds quickly caught them and sent them out of formation, much to Ichta's dismay. The upper altitude was always rough, but man were they feeling it.

Aurinkoth ached and she could feel his exhaustion from having been wounded so as well. Oh, her boy.

Appearing with the rest of Burning Aces, Cythereath was ready to spit flame at the first sign of Thread... Which, given the chaos surrounding her, was to be expected. But they appeared in an area of calm, where the silver menace was raining over others and no where close enough for Cythereath to bring down.

Well then...

A moment to breathe, to prepare, for the silence and quiet surely wouldn't remain.

When Thread did begin to appear, Cythereath made haste. With a fierce snarl, she spit fire at the tangle-- but unfortunately, her flame was short! In fact, both rider and dragon watched with dismay as the clump continued floating down to the Wings below, too far away to chase.

Well.

Clearly, the wind blew it out of Cythereath's reach. We'll get it next time, love.

As it stands, the wind blows the Thread back, and your wingmate are able to flame it down without injury. [+2 Instinct]

With more success than earlier, Cythereath found herself wheeling and diving, catching Thread, and turning it to harmless ash easily. If it wasn't so deadly, Ce'rian might find the whole experience satisfying. Hadn't his father once thought him nothing but a spoiled child? Hadn't he been thought not to handle a day's hard work? Now, he was a dragon rider... and doing more good than he ever thought possible.

The Thread was getting heavier... and with a call to a wingmate, they were able to help keep them out of trouble.

Weren't they just marvelous? Hopefully Z'tir had seen that.

Ce'rian did his best to focus on Cythereath when he could. She was not a particularly large green, and he worried she would wear herself out so quickly. Thankfully, so far, they had been spared the worst tangles and clumps, and the ones they did flame down, they did so with relative ease.

Unfortunately, with another clump successfully turned to ash, the wind pushed it right back against Cythereath. The little green gave a surprised lurch at the pain, but besides snorting great offense, carried on. How rude, but she wasn't going to let a little burn stop her, hmph!

... apparently the wind was feeling vengeful, for no sooner had she given a snort, but another gust through the burning ash back at her a second time!

Honestly, the nerve! She was flying down here... Giving a little hiss, she pushed herself higher up, and farther away from the pesky ash. R U D E.

It didn't bode well that the very first move they made was inadequate. T'rin hoped that Z'tir hadn't seen, but in all likelihood, he totally had. Ingonth didn't much care, dipping slightly lower so that they could prepare to get back in the game.

    And prepare they did.

Firestone chewed, Ingonth and T'rin managed an acrobatic little spin as they slid back into formation, flaming a heavy clump of Thread as it passed nearby. If their first move had been a fumble, their current performance soothed some of that disappointment.

Their luck was not to last. Ingonth shouted sharply as the wind buffeted his wide spread wings, sending him completely off course and leaving both he and T'rin shaken for a moment. It was a struggle to get back to where they had been, and even though his rider was appropriately soothing, the blue remained out of sorts.

When they reappeared, the world had changed. The air around them was clear, the rushing wind the only sound, and for a second or two they could rest.

Inside, Ingonth and T'rin mourned, the latter frowning as an errant tear pooled on the inside of his left goggle.

That will never be us. Ingonth's voice wavered as he found a reserve of strength and flapped ever higher.

    I know.
