Hekate and Devith's side of their weyr is kept extremely clean lest dirt marr the silver's hide. The shelves are lined with pots of oil, herbs, and other weyrling tools. Placed in perfect view of the door on one of the back shelves is a small nest for the Hekate's flit Lady. Any unwanted intruders will get an earful from this territorial green alerting her owner. One of the drawers holding her clothes is left slightly ajar the slight green tail of the sleeping firelizard Countess can be seen sticking out of it.

PROFILE "No one ever takes into account how hard it is to be Good when you're just so sharding good at being Bad."
Name:Hekate Age:19 Gender: female Sexual Orientation: Straight Craft/Rank: ex-drudge, Wing-rider History: Hekate was born to a thief of a father and a less then respectful ex-harper apprentice mother. Hekate's mother when she became pregnant with Hekate's after a lay during a gather was sent from the hall in disgrace. Unable to return home in shame her mother began wandering with the Trader's playing her tunes and plying what skills she had until Hekate was born. When Hekate turned five turns old her mother came across her no good thief of a holdless father and in a fury both at stubborn father and fiery daughter pawned the young girl off on the poor man and abandoned the two to their fates. Surprisingly Serom Hekate's father didn't just leave the child to the wilderness or the streets, perhaps seeing himself in the young girl's face, and took the young child under his wing. From then on Hekate followed her father everywhere living among the Holdless camps and attending gather, hold, and the like helping her father steal, con, and gamble what money they had in hopes of eeking out a better living. Serom soon found his daughter to be an excellent distraction teaching the girl how to cry, act, flirt, or play lost while her father nicked the purse of whatever unsuspecting holder was attending the child. As Hekate grew older her old man began to teach her the tricks of his trade and soon the youth was a fair hand when it came to picking locks, card tricks, gambling, thieving, and being up to general no good. Coming into her womanhood early Hekate picked up the art of dancing from a fellow Holdless woman and paired with a knife hidden beneath her skirt to ward off unwelcome attention she soon took to street performing to earn extra coin on the sly. Hoping to one day lose her less then respectable background and become more then just a street rat Hekate formed a new identity as the daughter of a small time trader who had grown tired of the life of a wanderer and breaking from her father's side a year ago she struck out on her own to try and start a more respectable life working as a hold drudge, but Hekate found the Holds far from welcoming to an outsider, even one with a decent backstory. Discouraged Hekate bounced from Hold to Hold for a while doing odd jobs until finally she found work at the more accepting Trine Weyr arriving just before the recent attacks. Description: Standing at 5'5 with tanned olive skin covered with a light speckling of freckles dotting an hour glass figure Hekate is a woman who's grown into the innate catlike elegance of her lithe figure. Her waist is well tapered with comely hips and a full chest to match her size which she sometimes chooses to compliment with a well chosen corset made to draw the eye. However her life as a Holdless has left her with dexterous fingers and a quick wrist to catch those who are made careless by her looks off-guard. Her hair is a bright startling Benden red that has grown into long mane of loose half ringlets with her age. Her face is nicely framed with the roguish quirk of a smile always playing along the edge of her lips. A now faded knife scar just under her left eye that matches one on her left collar bone remains as a sign that she hasn't always lived as well off as she is now. She has rich amber gold eyes made more prominent by the orange yellow eyeshadow she tends to wear when attending social events giving them an almost feline like sheen. She likes to keep her ears pierced and is fond of wearing bronze studs or hoops in them. Personality: Vain, impatient, fiery, tricky, clever, unconventional, and driven by wanderlust are a few good ways to describe Hekate. Hekate is a child of the road and the world and goes through life like a fire blazing and whirling with a lust for travel. The dirty, dark, and less then pleasant side of Pern are no secret to her and she's not new to the harshness of life as a Holdless. Hekate prefers to combat this by living in the moment. She tends to be vain taking great care to keep her appearance. She holds to the idea that just because she is a drudge doesn't mean she has to always dress like one. Specially as a former street dancer her looks are one of her greatest assets when it comes to distraction and trying to coax people to see things her way. Hekate is a woman who wants things now and dislikes having to wait, she has a very spontaneous and kinetic outlook on life. Preferring to force situations to be to her liking through trickery, bribery, or hard work rather then sitting around and waiting for something to happen. Born under a wandering star she hates being confined to hall, hold, or caravan for long and the longer she's stuck somewhere with no outlet for her frustration the more her quick temper comes out. This has become a more prominent problem as she's begun to try and force herself to stay put and build a new life. She hates to be cornered and can't stand small enclosed spaces with lot's of people. Hekate has a very harsh view of men, having had to dissuade a few unpleasant suitors herself in her time. She refuses to respect those whom have not earned it and will lash out at anyone who expects her to be some tame little holder wife. She isn't all fire and vanity though and Hekate can make very pleasant and interesting company with her quick wit, roguish smile, and large stash of interesting tales and funny stories. She loves games of chance and tricks and can often be found doing them for young children. Beneath her less then honorable exterior hides a surprisingly hopeful moral core. Hekate is a girl born into unfortunate circumstances that has striven to make the best of them and despite having to fight dirty she's known to pull her punches. She's very fond of young children and the elderly and is surprisingly known to play the white knight on numerous occasions being unafraid to throw herself into a fray in an attempt to snatch a child from the midst of danger. Hekate loves the idea of selflessness and the greater good. . .so long as it doesn't inconvenience herself too badly. Her top priority though is the survival of herself and those close to her and though she's more then willing to sacrifice herself for those whom she knows she's not too keen on throwing her life away for an ideal. She prefers more solid material wealth, but she's also keenly aware that the only way to live forever is to live through stories and she'd prefer the ones told about her be interesting. Hekate's vanity means she likes things, nice things, things she can't really get with a drudges or candidate's salary. This often pushes her to work extra shifts and jobs on the side or occasionally take back up street preforming for some extra marks to afford her expensive tastes. Then what she does save up she usually splurges on looking nice in an attempt to 'fake it till she makes it.' Because of this, this girl is almost always broke and skimping on things to make a little extra cash giving her a reputation as a cheapscape. This has earned Hekate few true friends though many casual ones and she tends to ply her looks and personality to get what she wants through them and often considers those not truly close to her as means to an end. Her impatience makes Hekate prone to wanting to take short-cuts. Oh true she's willing to work and work hard, but if things don't go her way there's always this little voice in the back of her head telling her how much easier it would be to just nick that holder's fat purse then work up to her elbows in dirty dish water. After all she wants to live a glorious life, but power is something you have to work for, not something that's just handed to you. Hekate has a difficult time concentrating on one task for too long and has to be nagged to finish a project once it's lost her interest. She feels that being tied down to one task for to long is like being stuck in a cage and it's not uncommon to find her flitting about outside when she should be inside scrubbing. A project starter Hekate tends to leave a trail of half-done if not inspired work behind her along with the disgruntled people who have to or have been convinced to finish her work for her. This often leaves her coming off as an inspired clever, but flighty and undependable girl. Hekate has an especially hard time resisting the allure of marks and things of a more shiny nature and has developed a mild kleptomania the longer she's been forced to stay put. When stressed it's not unusual for her to nick this or that just to get the thrill. Guilt though usually forces her to return said missing object lest she be found out and her relationships have suffered for it. Hekate doesn't feel personally that her friends things can be safe around her and she really doesn't trust herself with money at all. Other: Good at card tricks, slight of hands, lock picking and a variety of other untoward skills involving knives. She's also Claustrophobic with a mild case of kleptomania brought on during stress. DRAGON That Which Does Not Kill Me Had Best For It's Sake Be Fast Name: Devith Colour: Silver Personality: While there has certainly been vain dragons before very few are quite as vain as Devith. While silvers might be considered the 'princes' of the weyr this one defintely consider's himself a king and quite frankly he won't accept his thinking of him as anything less. Devith is ruled far less by the rules of the world then his ego - he can do it, he can do anything, have anything, be anything and very little is going to stop him because he is the best. In fact he is so amazingly awesome that he expects his clutchmates and every other dragon in the Weyr to follow him around and listen to him the way they would a queen and if they dont? He's not above causing a ruckus while he tries to get them to see the wisdom of listening to him, Devith seems to cause trouble wherever he goes and will likely have trouble submitting to the organized heirarchy of the Weyr and while this might very well be a fault the truth of the matter is that Devith IS good at almost everything he does - infuriatingly good really since this does nothing but boost his ego even more. Devith is certainly designed for greatness...his rider will just have to get him to look past his ego so that he can achieve it. Beneth this outward confidence however Devith's rider might get a glimpse or two of the dragons inner fear's..Devith wants to be accepted, he wants to be loved and liked and all of this pretentious 'better then thou' attitude might just be a mask to impress everyone else around him. He tends to take it fairly hard when those around him don't accept him however and can be vicious in thought and word when emotionally hurt, grudges are held for a good long while and getting back on his good side often means a good bit of grovelling on the offenders part. For the most part Devith's biggest problem in life is Devith himself and certainly he will be a challenging dragon for his rider to handle..but when and if that rider can get this silver to look past his ego and inner confidence issue they will have a partner capable of carrying them through anything - possibly even to a Leadership position. Inspired by The Devil CardWhy Me?Devith and Hekate will certainly keep the Weyr on it's toes, being a vain creature it was really only natural that Devith would choose himself a partner who thinks as highly of herself as he does about himself. Greatness can't be gotten with a frumpy type on his back now can it? His' desire for nice things equally rivals his own desire to get ahead and certainly those nice things will be easier to get if they gain some ranks - so Devith is sure that Hekate will agree to this aim for the top plan he's hatching and the fact that she's not afraid run off on an adventure or fight to get what she wants further appealed to this spitfire of a dragon. Surely between the two of them trouble will follow in their footsteps... And yet beneth their outward appearances both dragon and rider share an inner hidden morality that, when it shows itself, will let the pair truly shine. Devith's desire to be accepted and liked meshes well with Hekate's inner 'white knight' and her great work ethic meshes well with Devith's almost instinctual ability to do a job well...when they want to this pair will be capable of doing amazing things..when they don't really feel like putting forth the effort however one can expect a few sparrks to fly.Hekate wants to live forever through stories? Devith is certainly willing to comply and lead them on to greatness. Even if hte road they take to get there might be a bit rocky. INTERACTION BREAKDOWN Hekate and Devith seem to exude predatory ease often making the more traditional Weyrfolk uneasy around them like a flock of herdbeasts sensing a feline amongst their midst. At first glance it appears Devith is the most threatening of the pair. This is a silver that for all intents and purposes should probably have been born a bronze. He is a KING and no one close to him will EVER forget that. With his massive ego, dark biting wit, and a feeling of royal entitlement, not to mention his more possessive, obsessive and dark predatory tendencies Devith is by no means a dragon to trifle with. Lucky for most this vain silver feels it is better to be loved then feared and is perfectly happy to list off all the reasons why HE is better then everyone else and therefore deserves your attention.
When others refuse to see him in all his glory Devith takes this failure and takes it hard often turning vicious when emotionally injured. Not only vicious, but vengeful, cynical and borderline cruel unless those who hurt him make amends. A process which is very long, extensive and involves much grovelling. If you hurt Hekate though. . .
Between take mercy on your soul because Devith won't.
For all intents and reasons this darkly flashy silver seems to be the leader in this relationship often times appearing to do whatever he wants and making a big show of everything! Making even his vain, but slightly more world wise rider appear more like an accessory then a partner.
Most won't ever figure out the horrible truth of this deadly duo until it's too late.
Hekate and Devith for all intents and purposes are a Cloak and Dagger pair.
Hekate upon first glance simply seems to be an extremely vain drudge who's gone and gotten above her place in life. While most would usually believe that Hekate, whom often appears to flirt and give favor with her looks to get what she wants, at best might belong on a green. It's not until one digs deeper that you'll find why Hekate is the only being on Pern Devith considers his equal.
Vanity begets Pride and Hekate is distinctly proud of the fact that her self-serving and razorsharp survival instinct has carried her this far. She feels that because of her cleverness she should be entitled to nice things, but unlike her dragon she realizes that you have to earn them. It's because of this that she turns her cleverness into cultivating her looks and persuasion tactics taking carefully planned risks and steps to ensure her gradual rise up the ranking ladder. Where Devith prefers to use sheer ego and force Hekate chooses to employ more subtle methods ranging from blackmail, seduction, bargaining, bribery or the most unexpected tactic of all kindness and charity. She's rapidly becoming quite fond of cultivating favors though her fiery attitude and impatience often tempt her to take shorter and easier routes.
Devith wants to rock the Weyr's very foundations and ascended to new heights, Hekate will feed him the information and the means to do so or make the means if she has too. This is a woman vain and bold enough to yell in the face of authority and tradition alongside her dragon.
And clever and dangerous enough to make sure that those she's yelling at have good reason to lend this pair their ears.
While outwardly it appears Devith is in charge these two in truth are a rather well balanced pair. In fact it rather mystifies most outside parties how Devith's roguishly cheerful rider can calm her egotistical partner with a single word, a single touch. Most expect to see these two screaming at each other quite often over what to do, but the most these disappointed parties ever get in the way of a public disagreement is a refined and elegant stare-down between Devith and Hekate for a few moments before the two go on about their business.
What they don't know is Hekate is Devith's equal. Not only is she his equal, but he recognizes and adores her as such and therefore she is in the distinct position to hurt Devith in a way no one else will ever be. Queens, bronzes and the entire Weyr could condone Devith, cast him out and insult him and though he'd be angry and hold a grudge it would never truly shatter his pride.
Because to him they are lesser beings, subjects whom should follow and listen to him because he is just that great! Why should he care what they say about him?
But Hekate, Hekate is Devith's Queen to his King. A single insult from her is enough to send him slinking into their weyr to pile together the shambled pieces of his pride. As long as Hekate believes in him Devith can do no wrong.
In turn Devith means the world to Hekate. It doesn't matter what she has to do, what she has to steal or who she has to take down she will see him safe. Not only that Hekate is perfectly willing to kill to see to the pairs continued survival.
In fact Devith plays the Cloak. While others foolishly pay attention to this vain and showy dragon they never see his sly and dangerous Dagger of a rider sneaking up behind them with a knife.
Currently Hekate could care less about the Weyr. At most she gives them her disgruntled respect since if it weren't for them she would never have found Devith. That and she is fascinated by how they can be so brave in the face of possibly certain death by thread, by the fact they're willing to risk their lives for people they don't even know.
Over time though as she begins to make connections and possibly even friends her feelings will likely change. While she'll never be too over trusting or fond of the Weyr she will come to see it as her home and protect it if only because protecting it means she's protecting those close to her.
That and though Devith will have trouble fitting in with the hierarchy he can't be a ruler and a King if he has no one to rule over.

Pets Name: Lady Personality: This flit is a vain chatty creature that enjoys playing with it's food. Lady often hunts down vermin and other small creatures and leaves them on Hekate's pillow as a gift, much to her owner's displeasure. She's prone to screeching loudly at intruders and swiping at those who bump into or get too close to her owner. Despite this she's a brave and clever creature and is not too hard to train, but occasionally disobeys Hekate's orders. Though when it comes to the subject of Hekate's protection and companions other then itself this flit thinks she always knows best. She demands constant oiling and has been known to 'borrow' shiny things like bracelets and rings and try them on herself. She hates storms and will hide in Hekate's dress with only her tail sticking out until the thunder and lightning has passed. When threatened this flit will fan it's wings to make herself look bigger lowering her head and striking out like a snake. This flit is rather prone to fights since she feels that all the shiny tasty things should belong to her and she's not afraid to take them from others. This often leads to her being mobbed by other flits or their owners leaving her hiding in Hekate's tunic until the danger passes. Devith barely tolerates this vain little flit and is not fond of sharing his rider's attention with her. Yet he recognizes her as a necessary tool and a means to an end. He simply chooses to look upon her as one of his 'subjects' and greatly enjoys bossing this green around using her as his eyes and ears for when he cannot directly accompany Hekate. History: Returning from the hatching feast Hekate found a small satchel with Lady's egg inside sitting on her bed in her drudges quarters from an unknown benefactor. Name: Prince Personality: Prince is quite the spoiled little well. . .prince. A rather ditzy lazy pretty boy air-head of a flit this silver spends most of the time sleeping and acting as a glorified hair adornment for Hekate. In fact many people tend to mistake him for a silver wrought hair piece rather then a living breathing creature since he holds so still in sleep. When Prince does manage to rouse himself he spends his time fussing over whatever has caught his eye at the moment. Which with an attention span as short as his can be any number of things. Luckily he's simply too lazy and deems himself too pretty to bother flying over to investigate. After all he's the Prince! Let Lady and Devith do all the work to impress people, he was simply made to be admired! He seems to have a mild obsession with Hekate's hair and simply delights in attempting to groom her. It's not unusual for Hekate to wake up in the morning to find the silver's twined bits of shiny rock and string in her short locks in an attempt to 'decorate' His. After all she should be happy to have such wonderful fashion advice from him! It takes a very firm hand to get Prince to do anything. Since he tends to be both loathe to put forth much effort into anything that doesn't catch his fancy and tends to be easily distracted by anything that does. Prince also adores music and gossip which tend to go hand in hand and when he's not being distracted this silver is a great source of the latest rumors. Devith more or less ignores this flit unless he wants information or needs to locate his rider's exact location since Prince is often too lazy to leave her side. History: Acquired from S'ren Name: Baron Personality: Baron is probably the least trouble of Hekate's fair of flits and the most obedient even if he sometimes takes his orders a little too close to heart. A rather skilled little hunter he often brings his kills back to be 'admired' by his owner despite the fact he's fed quite well from table scraps. While not as openly vicious as his mother Baron holds himself with quite a good deal of pride for a brown and will defend Hekate courageously. He has a mild fascination with ears and earrings though and can often be seen nibbling on his owner's or in the case of enemies viciously biting and dangling from them like some overgrown piece of jewelry. He like Prince refuses to 'nest' like the two greens and can often be found sleeping curled up in bed with Hekate being hugged on. A bit of the oddball of the group Baron is a stickler for orders and rules and does his best to keep the rest of the fair in order. Like his mother he too is afraid of storms. While not prone to hiding and fleeing like his green companions he will cower somewhat miserably up against Hekate's neck and refuse to fly more then an arms length away unless the matter is urgent. History: Born from Ladies first clutch. Father Spazz. Name: Countess Personality: An extremely talkative and energetic flit it doesn't take much to get Countess excited. In fact the tiniest things seem to get her excited sending her into a flurry of fanned wings and chitters. An unusually friendly flit she enjoys greeting new people and can be found landing on shoulders and begging for treats. She reserves a very special greeting for her Mistress. Upon first seeing Hekate her favorite thing to do is smack right into and hug her owner's face creeling and chittering happily. She like her mother is also rather afraid of storms minus the bravery and can be found hiding up Hekate's sleeves during the rainy season. Her favorite place to sleep is either inside Hekate's pillow case or by making a nest in the weyrlings folded clothes and popping her head out everytime the woman goes to get something. History: Born from Ladies's first clutch. Father Spazz Name: Maiden Personality: Maiden is possibly one of the sweetest flits you'll ever meet. A rather shy soft spoken creature she tends to play the wall flower to the rest of her more bold and out going green companions. She has a great deal of fondness for music and tends to be one of Hekate's more cuddly flits. It's not unusual to find her crawling into the bunk with the young rider and settling into whatever spot hasn't been taken by Prince or Baron. Due to her shyer nature she tries to garner attention by being helpful. Need something little fetched? She'll fetch it. Her rider needs some ribbon? While you'll question where she might have gotten it Maiden will get it. Due to her unusually quiet nature for a green she's quite adept at sneaking around and avoiding notice. History: From a clutch found by D'lin amongst the debree of Trine Name: Pauper Personality: Possibly one of the itty bittiest golds Hekate's ever seen this little flit certainly hasn't gotten the memo about her size. If anything with the way she lords herself about you'd think she was the size of a full grown dragon. A fact that often gets her in trouble both with her owner and with other golds. Hekate simply won't tolerate a gold, even her gold, bullying any of her fair. Unable to flaunt herself about as much as she likes this little flit makes up for it by demanding ALL THE ATTENTION. Pauper as Hekate often jokes is Broke for attention and can usually be seen fawning all over her owner and making an utter nuisance of herself. It doesn't help that Pauper loves to be social often calling other flits over to chat and if Hekate thought she had a firelizard problem before she certainly has one now and is constantly followed by a little chirruping mini-flying horde of both her own flits, wild flits, and those visiting her for attention. History: A heartfelt gift from an old holder woman to Hekate as a thank you for rebuilding her home for her. Hekate from the size of the egg was expecting another brown and much to her shock, surprise, and annoyance ended up with Pauper instead. She has grudgingly come to love her annoying little gold despite the problems she brings.

FRIENDS/ENEMIES Dizzian of Green Courath Status: Ally Dizzian is a rather energetic rider the same age as myself. Despite her bubbly attitude she's very wise about the ways of the Weyr and isn't so hidebound as to not give new ideas a chance. She also tends to give straight forward answers, subtlety and deceit are not her gifts in life. Still I value her opinion and if nothing else her loyalty to the Weyr is recommendable and gives me greater insight as to the mindset of weyrfolk. My Sister is a brave one. I feel she's been greatly underestimated because of her color and would have made a fit Queen. Still with time I will see that her loyalty and kindness she has shown myself and my rider are rewarded. After all I take good care of my loyal subjects.
Selene of Crimson Tessth Status: Undetermined Selene seems rather. . .unfocused. Perhaps there are things that will snap her to attention, but she seems to jump to conclusions a touch too fast and appears rather skittish around me. While her dragon Tessth seems well enough she like her rider seems to think she has the answers to everything and rarely appears to give, at least myself, actual helpful advice. I also don't approve of Tessth's verbal jabs about Devith. Jokes or no, she has yet to bother to look past his hide. Her rider appears to be rather jumpy. While I do not dislike my sister she tends to jump between without thinking with her opinions. What makes her think she is fit to judge my rider or myself or anyone else for that matter?
S'kiro of Blue Neptanth Status: Undetermined It appears he's a friend of Dizzians. He greeted Devith and I at our hatching feast. I believe I make him nervous. A skittish man who was lucky enough to be graced with Mine and I's attention for a short time before he retreated.
E'lov of Blue Magith Status: TRAITORS While I have rather mixed feelings for E'lov and wished I'd been able to get to know the boy better there's no getting around the fact he betrayed Trine and joined the handlers. A very stupid move on him and his dragons part since while I too was tempted by the opportunities the handlers might give the fact remains I have a young flightless dragon who's an atypical, something handlers view as weak and worthless. Yet at least Devith is a silver and wil grow big. Magith is tiny and under grown even for a blue and despite his cleverness I rather doubt those two will fair well with the handlers. Hopefully they come to their senses and return. He HURT Mine. He betrayed and attacked us and my foolish brother cannot see the error of his ways. I certainly don't like the way E'lov looks at my rider or speaks to her. He is beneath her notice like a bug and deserves to be crushed like one. I took great satisfaction in seeing Mine put him on the ground.
Z'fer of Bronze Calanoth Status: Ally I am not entirely sure what to think of Z'fer just yet. He's a cocky, self assured, egotistical, confident, and all too self assured man, but I will admit he is a wonderful dancer. I quite enjoy teasing and taunting him as well and returning his jests with a fervor. He's also a delight to startle and surprise, but despite his mistakes and more annoying tendacies I find I quite like him and enjoy his company. I also simply adore his dragon. I'm not so fond of the rider. He doesn't treat Mine with the proper respect and I don't like the way he looks at her like I would look at a wherry im about to pounce on. I do however enjoy watching Mine run circles around him with her clever wit, but I don't like sharing her attention with him. Calanoth though is quite nice and I enjoy talking and racing with him. I would not mind speaking with him further and enjoy his humor.
Cai (candidate) Status: undetermined (Enemy) She's new to Trine and ignorant though she doesn't seem willing to admit it. She's also far too easy to trap in a conversation and doesn't appear to watch what she says. She badly insulted Devith, Devith's clutch, and his siblings and that's not something I'm going to forget though I won't hold her too it. After all she is new. She doesn't appear to think much of atypicals like most Benden people, but hopefully she realize I was being nice despite the way she was acting and get over herself. She insulted me and Mine. I'm not going to forget it and unless she apologizes I'm certainly not going to forgive her for it. Foolish two-legger. I was very tempted to snarl at her.
Unknown Bronze Handler and Bronze Status: Enemy, To Be Killed On Sight I know his face and I know his wher. If I ever come across them again I will make them pay for hurting Dizzian and Courath. I plan to bring this whers mauled corpse back to Courath to use as a chew toy.

IMPRESSION The Silver continued to call and cry and even went so far as to step down from his throne and toddle a few steps towards the Stands, eyes whirling a brilliant orange with flashes of white. Where was His!? His sheer distress carried him closer to his mother but he stumbled and fell as his strength failed him. Calling out in a miserable sound, he cast his glance over the Audience one last time. And went suddenly, completely silent. His head had stopped swaying, his tail had curled around him and he was staring intently into the Stands with a gaze somewhere between a predator having spotted prey and adoration. Hekatemine! Why, praytell, are youthere? I demand you come see to your Devith for he hungers and all gazes shall be upon us, Mine. He shouted at her, the imperious, arrogant tone plain as day even minutes out of the shell. Because I wasn't invite to join the party, but I certainly don't mind crashing it. Hekate replied a slow mischievous grin stretching over her lips as she picked up into a run through the crowd slipping through the masses until she reached the stands barrier. Picking up speed the girl leaped her hand clasping the edge of the wall as she flipped over it in a flash of color and skirts as easily as if she'd been jumping fences to avoid guard whers. Landing on the sand Hekate mimicked the dragons predatory crouch as she rose amber eyes flashing as she moved with a suave and very threatening grace keeping her pace at a fast run to come to a halt my her dragon's side. Her Dragon. Flashyentrance. . .I approve. Now come Mine! I hunger! The silver all, but roared in his rider's mind as Hekate lay her hand on the silvers neck allowing the dragon to lean into her for support without losing is pride. Giving the stands and candidates a sweeping look Hekate flashed them a dark winning smile, Devith all, but smirking along as the two walked off the sand heads held high. Once out of sight though all business turned to feeding. Mine I demand goodmeat. That slab there. Get it for me! Devith barked drawing a laugh from Hekate, but she did as asked snatching the meat up and taking her place among the others allowing Devith to lounge in style as she fed him the best cuts she could get her hands on leveling a solid glare at anyone along with her dragon who dared to give them less. Hekate was most certainly the odd girl out amongst the candidates her richly colored clothes standing out at the table alongside the white of the other's candidate robes. And there were so many of them though she had no doubts that there would be mutterings about a drudge impressing a silver of all colors! A scowl played along Hekate's lips as she caught a few disapproving stares from her former fellow drudges whom now worked to bring her and her Devith food. Pay them nomind. Came Devith's voice cutting through her mind like a flashing knife even as he stuffed his face in each offered piece of food she put before him only pausing briefly to lick his bloody maw. Likely a frightening sight to those whom were attending to the demanding silver. We, Mine, Are that of which Legends are made of. The dusky silver assured her in a low rumbling croon as Hekate reached out running her hands over his hide with a dark smile. Devith's voice for all it's power echoed equally with love, a rather demanding possesses and egotistical love, but love nonetheless as the hatchling's eyes whirled a rich blue and green the meat Hekate carefully picked for him helping to ease his hunger. "Of course and the Harpers will sing our praise Devith." Hekate whispered to her lifemate her amber gold eyes bright with love and pride. Running her fingers over Devith's eye ridges the silver crooned leaning into his rider, his weight heavy against her in his exhaustion and sleep courting him hard against his will. It would though not due to appear ungainly before his subjects. Asthey should. He replied with a derisive snort as if the fact that harpers might consider singing of anything else was a thought far beyond foolish. He was after all clearly superior to any other dragon.

Mine. Whatis that? Devith asked in a growl wrinkling his nose in distaste at the little green flitter that had lashed it's tail around his riders arm and now sat in the palm of her hand in the cracked remains of what had once been it's egg screeching at the top of it's little lungs.
"It's clearly a firelizard Devith." Hekate replied her tone equal parts humor and rushed surprise as she turned to desperately dig through the drawers of her battered dresser to pull out some scraps of jerky she kept for midnight snacks. Grabbing the remains of the food she began shoving the meat into the little creatures mouth if only to stop it's excessive noise and ease the strain on both her and Devith's ears. The silver's annoyance at the little green rolling through her like a dark cloud even as the little creature gulped down the scraps and quieted.
The firelizard had certainly been an unexpected surprise.
Though the feast would carry on long into the night Devith could not and as the hours went by Hekate had noticed her lifemate's draining strength despite her best efforts to help him conserve it with the pair spending most of their time lounging elegantly wherever they pleased. Still not wishing to risk him overtaxing himself out of pride Hekate had reluctantly given up the spotlight and cunningly suggesting to Devith that if they leaved others would come to miss the sight of them more and the next time they came into their presence would be even more appreciative of his handsome form.
As such the two had made their way back to the temporary weyr they were staying in until an official one could be assigned to them. Only stopping by Hekate's old quarters to collect a few clothes for her to wear the next day until her things could be moved.
Only to enter her room to find sitting on the girl's bed a small slightly ragged fur sack still warm to touch with a dainty firelizard egg inside. There was no note, no identifying marks as to why it was there as Devith carefully lifted himself nudging the back with his nose in curiosity causing the egg to roll from it's protective case onto the bed covers.
Reaching out Hekate scooped the egg up one hand pausing as she felt a flutter of movement within the shell as much to her surprise hairline cracks began to form along the egg's surface.
Only to burst leaving a green firelizard in it's place.
Now the flitter had finally calmed down though it's eyes still whirled with hunger the little creature seemed content enough with the jerky Hekate fed into it's hungry maw to not continue it's loud verbal complaint. Giving Hekate enough of a breather to take a seat on her bed, Devith climbing up next to her a moment later to glare at the firelizard.
Whatis it doing here? Devith snarled not at all pleased with the sudden competition for Hekate's attention making the hatchling flitter fan her wings slightly and edge away from the displeased silver attempting to hide her head beneath one of the slim poofy sleeves of Hekate's dress.
"It seems she's a gift." Hekate replied scratching the little creatures eyeridges and trying to mentally urge it away from hiding and managing to succeed in getting the green to instead tuck itself defensively in the crook of Hekate's arm. Reaching out she in turn ran a gentle hand over Devith's headfrill dropping her arm to caress her fingers under the silver's chin in a loving soothing manner drawing a croon of pleasure from her bond.
I won't tolerate sucha pest Mine. Devith growled out though his anger was waning under his rider's distracting attentions.
"She's just a hatchling Devith and given time and training she will prove useful." Hekate coaxed amused by how jealously protective her dragon could be even as he settled his head possessively in her lap staring at the flit with whirling eyes caught between the green blue of content under the steady touch of his riders hand and the angry red of discontent and jealousy.
That is noexcuse. I did not act in such an unrefined manner when I claimed youMine. The silver contested, Hekate lifting her arm to settle the somewhat sleepy green on her shoulder, the little creature pressing to the young rider's neck in solstice and keeping her own whirling eyes on Devith.
Did her mistress's lifebond not like her? Was she not pretty enough for him? She could look prettier! The little green thought half spreading her wings and attempting to crudely pose.
"See? Isn't she a little Lady? She's a gift to you too Devith. A little Lady to add to your Kingly court." Hekate joked scratching Devith's eyeridges even as he eyed the green in consideration.
She has much tolearn. Devith replied with a derisive snort making the little green shrink somewhat in worry. But IF Mine believes she will be useful to us then she may be permitted to stay and serve us. He added as green and Hekate let out a somewhat relieved breath the little green now dubbed Lady giving Devith a complimentary chirrup.
Now come Mine. I tire and wish us to rest. Devith urged nuzzling his head against Hekate's stomach as she smiled down at him. In truth he knew they'd have been keeping the green flitter whether he liked it or not. Still he could tolerate the creature if it meant Hekate's happiness.

Dear Father~ I don't know when I'll be able to send this letter to you. I've recently acquired a firelizard, but she is as of yet too young to carry messages and I don't trust another's flit with the task of delivering this letter.
I'm writing to you to let you know that circumstances for me have recently and drastically changed for the better. I'm sure in the given months you will hear rumors that the one metallic of the most recent Trine clutch impressed to a lowly drudge of all people.
Well I'm writing to tell you Father that that drudge was your little girl. The silver in question's name is Devith and he's the most wonderful creature in the entirety of Pern. I've never been happier Father. I've included in this letter a small portrait one of the harpers at the Hatching Feast did of us so you can see what my lifemate looks like.
Yes that is the dress you gave me to wear should I ever get married. It was the only outfit Devith approved of and the nicest thing I could think to wear. Please don't fret over me wearing it Father. You and I both know the chances of me ever actually marrying were slim to none and better it was seen at the feast then never seen at all. Devith and I were the toast of the Weyr that night and both of us were doubly surprised to return to my old quarters to find some unknown benefactor had left a firelizard egg as a gift for the two of us on my bed.
In a single moment I've gone from the lowest of the low in the Weyr to a silver-rider, a female one too! So don't fret over me Father. You're little girl is doing well and making a life for herself here. Given time Devith and I will fight our way up the ranks and make names for ourselves. We're going to make you so proud! And soon if you want you can come to the Weyr as well. You can come live with us and have an easier life, maybe finally retire and rest in safety.
So far I've been living under the guise of being the daughter of a small time trader who grew tired of wandering. Which technically isn't a complete lie. You do do trading of a sort.
Anyway Father I hope when I can send this letter it see's you safe. I love you so much and I can't wait for you to meet Devith! We'll take you flying one day and all three of us will touch the clouds!
~Love Your Little Girl Hekate

Their roommates had long since retired for the night and the rest of the Weyr had fallen to sleep. Yet sleep would not come to Devith and His as the silver lay curled on his ledge snapping at shadows in his ill temper.
His muscles where hurting again causing him to twitch and snarl at the pain and cramps, his eyes whirling bright with his anger and agony. Hekate, unable to sleep while her lifebond remained in such a state had dragged one of her blankets over to Devith's ledge wrapping the two of them among it's folds.
Where does it hurt? Hekate silently asked trailing a loving hand down her dragon's side even as the silver curled against her half draping himself across her lap.
My legs. Came his short reply, his voice tense and an edge of desperation in his tone that he would only allow her to hear. No one else was allowed to witness such an imperfection.
Frowning Hekate reached out taking one of Devith's hind legs and gently kneading the muscles in her hands as she'd been shown. She could feel his muscles bunching and twitching beneath her fingers even as she slowly worked out the knots causing her usually proud dragon to let out a low wuffing sigh of appreciation. For a while the two merely sat in silence enjoying each others company.
It wasn't until the moonlight, blocked by a passing cloud drifted through their window drawing Hekate's eyes out to the starry sky. Following his rider's gaze Devith pondered the world he saw before him.
Do you miss it Mine? Devith finally asked her voice quiet, but no less regal in it's power as he arched his head to look up at his rider, her usually bright amber gold eyes appearing cool in the pale moonlight.
For a moment her gaze darkened as she warred with herself, his rider's distress causing Devith to press tighter, his tail and body curling protectively around her as if to ward off her worried thoughts.
The Weyr, though they may not approve of us, supplies us with oil and food. I doubt I could hunt or afford to feed the both of us and I won't risk stunting your growth. Hekate replied running a soothing hand over the dusky dragon's head frills drawing a low thrumming purr from his throat. We're dependent upon them. For now anyway.
Mine. That didn't answer myquestion. I know it calls to you and throughyou to me. I can hear it thrumming through yourveins and yourthoughts. I see the way you eye the trails leading away from Trine. Do you miss it Mine? Devith questioned again this time with more force though he could not stop the shiver of relief that ran through his body as she switched to kneading his other aching leg relieving him of his torment.
For a while Hekate sat in silence thinking over her dragon's question until her eyes lifted to the sky. Yes. She replied her voice burning with a longing that made Devith want to snarl in jealousy.
Do you love it Mine? This wandering of yours? Those empty trails filled with long lonely nights? Devith questioned his voice harsh and mocking in his anger, his bitterness not going unnoticed by Hekate who narrowed her eyes and cast the silver with a harsh challenging stare. Feeling his jealousy, his worry, his fear reeling through her though she could not help, but soften her gaze.
Bending she pressed her lips to the tip of the silver's nose in a gentle loving kiss. Straightening she ran her fingers over his eyeridges giving him a soul felt gaze. I love only you. She whispered in his mind and as Devith was filled up by the truth and caring of her words he came to regret his quick cutting comments. Averting his gaze he stared back out the window the two falling into silence.
His rider's love in that moment seemed to burn him like a brand, her caressing fingers along his back only serving as a reminder of his outburst. He wasn't used to being in the wrong, but in that moment he had just felt such jealousy, such anger. She was HIS and no one elses! No empty roads and trails, nor wandering could have her. Not unless He was the one doing the leading. Still he'd spoken too quickly and turned his anger on His when he'd had no reason to do so nor question her loyalty.
Devith didn't make mistakes. . .merely miscalculations.
Shifting under his rider's touch he followed her gaze to where she stared out the window at the distant glistening moon and stars. How is it Mine that such things have the power to hold your attention so fast in their grip? He asked with a snort eyeing the glistening specks rather critically as if trying to defer if they were worthy of his rider's gaze.
Chuckling low she shook her head at her lifemates antics. The moon greatly reminds me of a certain dragon's hide. Hekate teased with a roguish smile drawing a surge of approval from Devith at his rider's compliment. Hmm perhaps this 'moon' was worthy of existing if it turned Hekate's thoughts to him.
And the stars~ And a feeling of warm nostalgia overtook her, drawing Hekate back to simpler more whimsical days. When I was little my father used to tell me that when a dragon and rider went between their souls become one in a glorious burst of light and from there was born a star. That even today dragons and riders of old still watch over us from their far off perches in the skies. She explained a warm smile creeping over her lips at the memory.
On dark nights like this when I couldn't sleep I used to stare up at the stars and imagine they were great gleaming jewels I could pluck from the sky wear around my neck like a Lady Holder does her finery. Hekate added with a shake of her head and a fond smile.
I'll get them for you Mine. I'll fetch you the stars to wear about your neck and they will pale in comparison to your beauty. Devith hissed in determination rising from where he sat only for Hekate to reach out and wrap her arms around him in a startled attempt to stall the fledgeling silver.
"Don't be silly Devith!" She called out to him in a desperate whisper. All the stars in the sky are not worth the risk of losing you. Lay down. We will have plenty of time to prepare for flight later. She reasoned trying to tug the rather tired dragon back to her side. For a brief moment Devith struggled and rumbled at his rider determination flashing in his eyes until her fear soured it.
If we're going to claim the stars we do it together. Don't leave me behind! Hekate pleaded her tone desperate as Devith's will finally cracked and he settled down by his rider's side to seethe. He had thought for sure that fetching her the shiny specks would make up for his previous slight. Running her hands over his hide in muted relief Hekate wrapped her arms about her dragon's neck hugging him to her.
I would never leave you Mine. I could easily fetch you the stars and pull down the moon as well if it suited me. Devith rumbled out his ego somewhat bruised by his rider's worry.
His words though sent Hekate into overdrive. Yes, but think of how it would look if you went without me! Hekate scolded causing Devith pause.
It was true he'd hardly be at his full glory without her on his back and he doubted his rider would enjoy the slight. Very well then we will wait. For now. He replied ruffling his wings slightly and settling them at his sides.
Catching Hekate's eyes though he held her gaze his own gleaming orbs whirling a deep blue and green in love. You. Mine. He began his tone commanding and proud with little room to question. Will be greater then any of these Lady Holders you speak of. Let the bronzes keep their golden mates. I hold them in contempt to the likes of my traveler queen. Devith declared crooning his love for his rider even as his eyelids grew heavy and the silver drifted into blissful sleep. Unable to untangle herself from her lifemate Hekate settled down beside him and was quick to follow. Silver king and Traveler queen loathe to part even in dreams.

Dear Journal
None of my letters have been able to get through to my father. Where he is now I have no idea. I am sorry for such a long gap without an entry, but much has changed of late.
I went to Benden with Dizzian and Courath. We were to attend a great celebration of Perns inventions and the possibility of life without the worry of thread.
What we got instead was a slaughter.
Whermaster Keller of Benden rose up starting a rebellion and a war between the Weyr's and the Wherhandlers. Benden was the first to fall. . .then Malvren whom lost their Queen in the fight.
Now only Trine stands. Our Senior Queen has awoken though. I've never met the woman, only heard of her and briefly glimpsed her at times before she was attacked. I wonder what she will think of me?
A Drudge on the back of a silver? Will she scorn me like so others? I do not know. Devith is confident we will do well and I am confident in turn that whether Trine loves us or not that we will make them respect us.
Dizzian and Courath though. . .they were badly injured. They wandered away from camp and I. . .I didn't get to them soon enough to prevent the run in they had with a handler and his bronze wher. The sharding thrice betweened bullies tore Courath and Dizzian to pieces. I did however get there in time to save their lives. The healer are confident Courath will survive and be able to fly with time. Both of them are still laid up in the healers tent though and in rather foul temper at being stuck there. Devith and I go and visit them often though and this seems to cheer them up.
Here's hoping they make a full recovery and soon.

The Gather would be starting soon and Hekate was determined to have her entire fair looking their best for it. Though her best would have to wait until after she had finished her oiling lest she ruin her gather wear again. Her last tunic she had worn to the Dragonlight demonstration was completely ruined and marred with bloodstains she doubted even Dizzian could get out. Soft rag in hand she sat outside on a large flat rock in the early morning sunlight, Devith freshly oiled laying stretched out beside her. The silver's large half lidded eyes whirled a deep blue and green in contentment as Hekate carefully went over the regal boneing of his face with her cloth one last time. Lifting his silver nose Devith gently nuzzled his rider's hand his eyes rich with a look of caring and love that only she would ever see as their connection swelled with the feeling.
I love you Mine. Devith rumbled low in her mind even as Hekate bent and pressed a gentle little kiss to the tip of his nose and straightening to scratch his eyeridges with a smile. "I love you too Devith." She replied her voice soft with affection.
A small cheep though broke into her thoughts as Hekate turned to glance at the rest of her fair which had settled themselves on or around her looking at her pleadingly and awaiting their own turns to be oiled. Frowning Hekate checked the oil pot her expression only deepening at the thin layer of oil left at the bottom. While the Weyr provided her enough oil to take care of Devith's extremely demanding hide Hekate could hardly go and ask for a new pot of oil as often as she actually needed it and was forced to draw out each pot as long as she could. Which meant her firelizards didn't get oiled nearly as often as they used too. Something the poor darlings had taken to heart. While Hekate was able to keep them oiled to a healthy level the fair had been pestering her of late thinking they had done something wrong that their mistress wasn't fawning over and caring for their hides as often as before. Another plaintive cheep came from just at Hekate's elbow as she glanced down spotting shy little green maiden staring up at her pleadingly. Sighing Hekate bent and scooped the little lizard up settling the young green in her lap and dipping the rag once more in the last dregs of oil.
Will they have oil for sale at the gather in exchange for those. . .what did you call them Mine? Merks? Devith questioned cracking one sleepy eye open to watch as his went over the light colored green with the oiling cloth being careful not waste so much as a single drop as she worked. After all Hekate had to make the last bit of oil last for not one flit, but five and was thanking her lucky stars she only had one metallic though the three younglings certainly took up their fair share of oil.
"Marks." Hekate reminded Devith with a small smile as Maiden crooning in pleasure curled her little body around Hekate's hand the shy little flit's eyes whirling at the attention. "And I'm hoping so. Sometimes the healer crafter stalls sells herbs and make nice smelling oil for the older ladies to use on their skin. If they are I'll purchase some pots of that so your court won't be wanting quite so much for oiling. Though we may have to get used to them smelling like a batch of old ladies for a bit until the oil shortage can be cared for." Hekate explained finishing Maiden's hide and giving the little flit and affectionate pat on the head before setting her aside where Lady, Hekate's eldest green flit fluttered over to the youngling grooming her affectionately. Having found Maiden's egg around the same time Lady's own had hatched the older green had been quick to adopt the motherless young one.
That would be sufficient. Tell me Mine what other things will there be at at this gather? Will my siblings be there? Devith questioned tilting his head and letting out a snort of amusement as Prince landed on Hekate's should, the little silver cheeping and nipping at Hekate's ear insisting he be next. He was a prince after all! It wasn't fair that Maiden had gotten to go first! he should have been first! Though a glance at how Lady prickled up at the idea of her adopted daughter being bullied by the silver proved that Prince was certainly not going to press that fact and risk his pretty hide over it.
"Now stop that or I'll do Countess before you!" Hekate scolded, tapping the silver on the snout, but once he quieted she lifted him off her shoulder and set the firelizard in her lap to be oiled.
"Well all sorts of things are sold like gloves, leathers, toys, clothes, herbs, and food. There's even dancing and contests a lot of the time and I'm sure we'll see plenty of the other weyrlings out and about. In fact we'll probably meet Dizzian and Courath there." Hekate explained and assured her dragon, Prince's happy little peeps, cheeps, and croons at being oiled adding a constant background noise to their conversation. Where as Maiden had been rather quiet and affectionate about the whole affair Prince made it a point to pose and preen trilling his pleasure. To him the whole oiling had been far too short as Hekate gently nudged the silver from her lap the little firelizard taking flight to land on her shoulder and go about doing his own grooming as he rubbed his head against her cheek thrumming and playing with the strands of her red hair.
We'll have to put on a good show for the others, they will be watching. Perhaps it will take Courath and Dizzian's mind off things. They have not been their usual cheerful selves of late. Devith mused his tone mixed with concern for his favorite sibling. Perhaps that rider of Neptanth's will be there? They are fond of him or maybe Solath and his rider will show? The silver added seeming to brighten at the idea as Hekate grinned.
"We'll see, but that is a good idea. We'll have to see about getting those two together." She replied and for a moment Hekate was grateful for dragon's short memories, she'd hate for lingering paranoia about the events of their last gather to ruin this one for Devith and Courath. While both dragons were a touch less trusting by instinct she didn't want the Dragonlights to cast a dark shadow over this day.
Looking around for the next lizard to oil Hekate called out "Cou~" But before she could even get the little green's entire name out the bright bouncy lizard betweened right in front of the girls' face chattering excitedly. Was it her turn! Oh she hoped it was her turn! Was it her turn mistress? Please please let it be her turn! The green seemed to cheep as she fluttered this way and that.
"Yes you're up now come here you silly thing." Hekate chuckled patting her lap where Countess landed fidgetting under Hekate's hands in excitement as the young rider began to oil her. The squirmy little green took a bit longer to oil then her companions, but after a time she too was released and reaching out Hekate scooped up Lady, Baron had been fluttering just out of reach refusing to yet be cared for until all of his fair had been seen too.
Dipping the rag one last time Hekate made sure to save just enough to care for the brown as she careful worked over her more prickly lizard. Lady lay quiet in her owner's lap knowing better to claw at her, but still remained alert only a few small content thrums rising from the older green as she worked. Finally done she motioned to the last of her fair, Baron the brown obediently draping himself over her lap and rolling as she oiled his little belly his eyes whirling bright with love. Taking a little extra time on the patient brown Hekate scratched his eyeridges spoiling him a little and allowing him to remain even after she was finished. For a while the whole group just sat in silence enjoying the early morning air before stretching and yawning Devith got to his feet.
You must look your best Mine. Come. The silver demanded as tucking Baron into the crook of her arm Hekate stood briefly wondering if Z'fer would show up at the gather.

Dear Journal,
Everything is moving so fast of late. Trine is gradually rebuilding and even the Weyr's are all starting to get along somewhat though I don't know how long that'll last. It looks like Benden's Queen is starting glow. I frankly can't really tell a difference in her sheen, but the other riders tell me it's starting to happen and when she reaches peak I'll be able to tell. Not that I really care too much what with my own dragon to tend too. Devith is growing in leaps and bounds and it's hard to keep up with the oiling to make sure his hide doesn't crack. At least his muscle pains are becoming less frequent. You should really see him he's so handsome and in fact this time you can! I got a harper candidate to do a little sketch of us for me. He's about the size of a small green now and we should begin flying lessons here soon. I'm so excited to get into the air and get away from all these people. It's so claustrophobic with the pressing crowds.
At least I'm rooming with friends. Since the Wher attacks I've begun rooming with Dizzian and Syn the two greenriders from the same clutch as Devith. Frankly I think Devith and myself are both MUCH happier here. He really couldn't stand our old roomate's blue and seems much more content amid his green sisters though him and Gementh can get into the occasional fuss. I know I'm certainly happier rooming with the girls and between the three of us we're able to supply whatever the other might have lost in the attacks.
