There were few places Hekate loved more then the jungle. While by nature a wanderer she could safely say Trine was the closest she had ever seen a Weyr actually come to being in harmony with it's environment. However of late with the building efforts and overpopulation Trine was becoming increasingly less jungle and more a cramped weyrhold. This left the once thick encirclement of trees to be wittled back more and more as the need for wood grew and meant Hekate had to travel farther each day to get the peace and quiet the young rider so desperately needed.
However as she finished the last of the chores set for herself that morning and collected her dragon to stalk off towards the lake the young weyrling had found a solution to her problem. While most of the dragons and riders preferred to bask or swim in the nearest of the two lakes closest to Trine where the water was clear the lack of trees leaving the lake bottom clean and untouched Hekate and Devith though avoided such areas taking the other path through the light jungle towards Trine's last and farthest lake.
Days ago Hekate's green flit Maiden had discovered the little cove where one of the smaller streams fed into Trine's last lake. Here the trees overhung the water casting a nice shade on a shallow sandy if not rather dirty lake bottom. A quick and clever swipe of Devith's tail as the silver sank into the water though made quick work of any debree scattering it until he was content that he had a proper sized area cleared for himself.
"How's the water?" Hekate asked with a chuckle as Devith sank into the shallows rolling onto his back to stretch exposing his stomach and unmantling his wings to let them float on the surface like great billowing sails.
Perfect. Come. Join me Mine. Devith crooned his second eyelid half closed already with lazy pleasure as Hekate chuckled kicking her boots off and tying up her pants to wade out into the shallows mindful of her silvers wings. Reaching up and gripping one offered forearm Hekate pulled herself up onto her lifemate's belly stretching out there as if lounging on a large shining silver couch as Devith let out a content sigh.
"Well said~" Hekate chuckled reaching a hand up to tug a few leaves and twigs down from an over hanging branch lazily crafting them into a little dingy to set sail in the water. It didn't take long for her little horde of flits to land and bat the poor vessel about with their eddies as they chased after it eyes whirling at this new great game. When they sank that one Hekate merely made them another crafting a couple of little ships to set sail that her companions might enjoy their play as Devith and her watched on with amusement.
Looking up Hekate trailed her eyes across the great expanse of the lake. Where she and Devith rested was half hidden by the trees, but the opposite shore and it's distant moving figures were in plain view of the pair. Not that there were many moving figures. Most of the trees and timber were taken from around the other lakes, the carpenters feeling it was too much effort and trouble to trump out all this way to cut down and float trees back to the Weyr when there was perfectly suitable timber much closer and easier to obtain. Of course most of the smart workers had retired for lunch. With the sun high in the sky any Trine native with sense had taken to sheltering in the shade having gotten most of their work done early in the morning, the rest to be resumed when the sun began it's descent. In fact the only people Hekate recalled seeing working or still active were those refugees from Malvren and Benden who hadn't quite caught on to the routine of the more tropical Trine.
Then again without the heat to complain about, a favorite subject it seemed amongst the refugees, she wondered if the whole Weyr might fall silent until their guests found something new to pick at. Frankly Hekate counted them all lucky the summer and heat were holding out so long giving the Weyr the much needed time to rebuild before the rainy season would start. Of course not all the refugees were so bad.
Sure she could have done without certain members of a certain Weyr that she would not dampen her day with naming, but she liked some of the others well enough. Rochelle from the gather and her friend. . .something beginning with a C had seemed well enough. Heck Malvren even had a crimson wingleader! One of the few female wingleaders Hekate had seen and certainly the first atypical wingleader she had had the pleasure of glimpsing. Rolling onto her stomach Hekate leaned over her dragon's side slightly nudging another small leaf and twig built craft into the water with which her flits could play with as she wondered just what had become of Rochelle and her friend.

At least one Malvren refugee had the good sense to stay inside during the heat of the day. Rochelle loved to take cover in a Crafters area, sort through the items made that week to inventory and assist with. She downright looked forward to noon-times to relax with some papers and bits and pieces, maybe doodle up a badly sketched bit she wanted to make at one point. Sometimes she put to use the drawing tips Carltis gave her.
Except for today.
A recent visit to the infirm to see Bereck ended up with her wandering into the unknown in search for some very specific bits of plant life. They did something-or-the-other for healing and with apprentices and healers all going about their business taking care of war wounds or whatever else they did, he'd asked her to go looking for these particular plants. She had with her a basket, a wide brimmed hat she may have nicked from a certain bronzehandler friend, and a drawn picture of the plant. During her turn in the infirmary, she'd seen it a few times - dried, crumbled, that sort of thing - but never had to go hunting for it.
Damnit, Bereck. She's a glasssmith, not a healer!
Rochelle tramped through the greenery, trapped by a promise to a father figure and an empty basket. It grew near the edge of the water, in shaded areas, so that is where she went... and caught sight of the rather large silver and a familiar face. Rochelle sucked at names and remembered that the girls name started with an 'H' (probably) but she remembered her face! Carltis pissed her and her friend off, that's right.
"Hey!" She called out, regardless of name remembering, and raised her basketless arm up in the air for a wave. "Afternoon!"

At the sudden yell Devith cracked one eye open spying the girl from the gather. He remembered her, she'd complimented him and His and as such received a low bugle of greeting. A bugle that nearly sent a startled Hekate head first into the water had she not caught her dragon's arm and hauled herself back up into her seat turning to face where the call had come from.
"Oh! Rochelle right? What are you doing all the way out here?" Hekate questioned glancing over the girl's wide brimmed hat and basket with interest. Even the flitters paused in their play taking to the branches around Rochelle to twitter and chirrup at her.
"Don't mind them they're just curious." Hekate called urging her flits to give the poor girl some space. Prince, her silver took wing along with her brown Baron. The brown settling himself about her shoulders his wet hide soaking her tunic much to her bemusement. Prince though had to land on her outstretched arm after a very firm thought from Hekate reminded him she would not appreciate him getting her hair wet and tangled.
Hekate's three greens though still bounced from branch to branch above Rochelles head trilling at her chipperly.

"Hey there, handsome," She called back, a bright grin still in place. it didn't stop the giggles when Hekate almost fell into the water - only serving to magnify them despite her best efforts. Hekate remembering her name just made or things all war and happy to have maybe made something not an enemy that happened to be female. (Girls, on principal, proved themselves to be nothing short of crazy and men stupid. She found stupid easier to deal with. That said, having a guy in her head forever struck her as something awkward.)
"They're running low on some stuff in the infirmary so Bereck asked me to go get some. I've spent too much time in the infirmary so I luckily know some of it," Rochelle peered into her empty basket, taking just enough time to glance before there were flitters everywhere. She gave a little jerk, blinking and head cocking to the side to try to not knock the flitters in the head. "No, no, it's totally chill. And, uh, no offense, I remember you as someone super cool and our talk and everything but I'm horrible with names. In my head you were labelled 'Awesome Silver' and 'Awesome Silver Rider That Fought Carltis'. I'm really sorry. It takes me a while. How many of these do you have?"

"Ah I see. What herbs are you looking for? I grew up in the jungle so I've probably seen whatever it is and I don't mind helping you look." Hekate offered with a grin seeming unoffended by the other girl's giggles. She supposed she probably had been a rather funny sight pushing little ships in the water half way straddling her dragon. At Rochelle's confession however Hekate's grin turned into a light chuckle as Devith did his best to preen while still laying on his back in the water.
"No worries it was loud and hectic that day anyway. I'm Hekate. The handsome dragon beneath me is my lifemate Devith." She replied patting Devith's stomach lovingly before sliding off his side to step into the shallows wading her way to shore to take a seat on the grass. With his rider off Devith rolled back up right doing his best no to splash his rider as he half lazed in the water watching the whole scene with interest.
"Well let's see. The brown just above your head is Baron, he's mine and the silver who's too lazy to come down much further from his perch is Prince. He's mine as well. Those two greens~" And she pointed to the one small very vibrant green that was constantly chittering and hopping along a branch not far from Rochelle and a darker striped one who remained closer to Hekate. "Are both mine. The lighter one is Countess, careful she's very affectionate and excitable and the darker one is Lady. Lastly the shy one just to your right elbow is my last out Maiden. I own five though don't be surprised to see more fluttering around. I seem to attract the things like a plague." Hekate joked flashing Rochelle a smile as Baron and Prince seemed to grow bored and took flight with the brown landing on Hekate's shoulder peering out much like a hunting hawk as the silver landed and coiled himself about her neck lazily closing his eyes to nap against his owners warm skin.
Indeed between our horde and those two belonging to the bronze two-legger that are both so fond of you you are rarely without a winged companion other then myself. Devith mused in amusement drawing a good natured pat to his hide from his rider.
"The bright green and brown were from Lady's first clutch. The little shy one was rescued as an egg and the silver was a gift. Maiden and Countess will let you pick them up and pet them if you like. They're both very friendly." Hekate assured the other girl with a cheery smile.

Rochelle wanted to remember the names to all of the firelizards, honest she did. At 20, chances of her Impressing dwindled by the day and she refused a wher because ew, no. They attacked everyone and were gross and disgusting. Should her green or crimson not find her ever, she knew she would end up That Flit Lady, trying to soothe her lack of dragon with a herd of firelizards.
Sure, she could Impress all of the things but Bronze but let's admit it - Rochelle doesn't strike one as stereotypical 'gold material' and having a guy in her head forever forever seemed a bit awkward. Like all itty bitty Candidates, she had dreams of what colors she wanted. Green. Crimson. Something-not-babymaking.
"You are going to take over Pern with your firelizards," Rochelle said. She reached out towards one of then with her palm up like with a runner. Already its name escaped her. The girls, however, did not. "Right! Hekate and Devith. I know faces and personalities and stuff, it's just names I'm horrible with.
"But! I am here hunting for Dragons Tongue, numbweed and witch hazel. Healers have more important things to do right now, s'my time off, so why not? Worst thing I can do is piss them off by not getting enough and Bereck'd probably wreck them if they yelled." She shrugged, adjusting her hat. "Not used to Trine but I know dragons tongue grows along the water and what everything looks like. Too much time in the infirm, means I can wrap a mean bandage and the jargan doesnt phase me. So I guess I was wrong about the creche?"
