~ You're thinking of her again. ~ Faceted eyes whirled a mirthful green as the Bronze lowered his head to his rider's side. Z'fer growled and shoved at his dragon's nose with no effect.
"Get out of my head." So he'd been thinking of her. So what? Maybe it was nice to remember the last moment of happiness he'd had before the sharding Wherhandlers had killed his Weyrwoman and left him to seek shelter at another Weyr. Even if that moment of happiness had resulted in him being 'politely escorted' out of the Gather area and 'strongly urged' to return to his tent. He was no young buck to pine longingly after a lost love. But going over the memories of that dance, and the kiss afterwards. He couldn't help but hope the feisty young woman had survived the take-over, if only so he could wring her neck himself.
~ That's a little impossible if you remember Mine. ~ Even with the images of the past couple sevendays still lingering in his memory, and the wounds still healing in his hide, Calanoth couldn't be persuaded into a solemn state of mind. The move to the tropical weyr had Calanoth too happy to be sad. Sure there was over crowding problems, but all the new dragons! New Greens, new Queens, even Hatchlings! Trine's latest clutch were still young enough to have the hatchling obsessed bronze giddy. ~ You know what you need? You need to swim in the lake. It'll make you feel better. ~ He nudged Z'fer in the general direction of the nearest shore.
Z'fer snorted but patted the bronze hide anyways. It didn't matter what mood he was in or what he needed, Calanoth would always make him happy just by being there. "You're thinking of yourself big guy. Those wounds have you twitching worse than when you were a hatchling."
~ The water will do you good too mine. Your leg is still hurting. ~ A nuzzle and a tinge of yellow revealed Calanoth's actual concern for his rider. The tall man was still limping, his calf bandaged tight where the gold wher had tore into him.
"Alright alright let's get going. It's not like I can do much else at the moment." He had no sweetsand and only a spare brush from the remnants of Trine's supplies but it would be enough to relieve Calanoth of the worst of his itching. Z'fer retrieved them from his small pile of toiletries, the only things he could call his own after losing Malvren. It burned him up inside to think of some traitorous rider or worse a Handler living in his weyr, wearing his clothes and using his bed. He'd make everyone of them pay under pain of fire!
~ Hatchlings!! ~ The delighted crow disrupted his thoughts as he looked up to see Calanoth charging towards the water, bugling like an idiot blue towards a smaller silver dragon.
"Calanoth you dimglow!" Z'fer leapt into a clumsy lope, favoring his injured leg even as he chased after the large bronze. The wherry brained dragon could accidentally trample someone running about like that! Not to mention he looked ridiculous with his wings half mantled. Dragons were not meant to run on all fours. A flash of red caught Z'fer's eye, bright against the dusky shine of the young Silver's hide. Z'fer slowed to a halt, not beliving his eyes. What under the double suns was SHE doing here. "You?!" He barked out towards that figment of his imagination.

Mine did you make sure to get under my wings? Devith questioned where he stood up to his chest in the lake his wings half spread as his beloved red haired rider circled round him with a wet cloth and a brush scrubbing and shining his beautiful hide. "Have some patience King of Mine. I won't have your hide anything but at it's best and such a level of perfection takes time." Hekate teased back at her life mate. With Soapsand scarce, resources worn thin and even the hatchling barracks crowded with new strange riders it took almost double time for the young woman to make sure her vain silver was up to her standards of clean and cared for. Leaving Hekate equipped with only her brush and a clean as can be expected cloth to do the job.
Very well then do what you must~ Devith purred low his eyes bright blue and green at his rider's ever lavish compliments. No one quite knew how to stroke the silver's ego like his precious rider. Chuckling as the dusky silver preened under her attention Hekate paused to bend and tug at the ties she'd used to tie up her loose wrap pants to keep them from getting what in the lake water when a bugle caught her attention.
"What in the name of all the Weyrs?" Dragon and rider muttered in tandem as they spotted a large rather roughed up looking unfamiliar bronze running towards them like a bouncing canine puppy. From the looks of him he had to be from either Benden or Malvren and one of the most massive dragons Hekate had ever seen. . .
Suddenly a bolt of recognition hit her making her stiffen as Devith let out a bugle of alarm at his rider's sudden shift in emotion his eyes whirling red as the shout came. Snapping her head around like a wherry in the path of a charging feline Hekate caught sight of Z'fer and bolted.
Devith! Get to our weyr! Hekate mentally commanded as she hiked up her pants farther and ran/sloshed/leaped through the water splashing and being splashed as the startled silver whirled confused and not in the least bit happy about the situation.

"Wha- Hey WAIT!" Z'fer hadn't expected her to flee like a startled runner. He changed direction across the sand and closed some of the distance between them. The silver was partially forgotten, his significance near her not registering to the Bronze rider.
Meanwhile Calanoth slowed and splashed into the water, his wings and neck drooping as the hatchling and His fled. He hadn't meant to scare the weyrling! He just wanted to swim with them...the warm freshwater lake was a joyous change from Malvren's salty shores. Though now that he'd paused, with all that had happened maybe charging towards them hadn't been his most brilliant idea.
Z'fer's leg burned as he ran, barely closed wounds beginning to seep as he ran after her. She was NOT getting away this time! He thanked Faranth that she was slowed by the water and her clothes, a well timed leap sent his form straight into her hers, bowling her over into the warm shallows, murky with churned sand. He crouched above her, trying to ignore the sharp needle-like pains of sand getting under his bandages. "You!" He growled, a savage grin on his face. "You gave me a lot of grief last I saw you!"

Hekate cursed her clothes, weighed down from the water and slowing her pace as she tried to pick up speed. She was so close, if she could just get to the shore there was no way the bronze rider had a chance of catching her. Just a few feet from the dry bank, leaping through the shallows her lips were half parted with a cry of triumph when the noise died in a muffled OOMPH! As the man's larger form rocketed into her sending both of them tumbling into the shallows leaving Hekate flat on her back. Her longer hair had been knocked loose from it's tie to swirl in the water against her back like a blood red halo as she blinked up at her captor.
Blinking up at the man who crouched over her grinning like a dragon over it's kill she tried to speak. Her words though only came out as muffled coughs, the air having been knocked out of her as she tried to get her breath back.
"Pleasure to see you too~" She managed to get out between coughs as she finally got her breath back.
"I would get up if I were you." Hekate added and this time it was her turn to grin as suddenly very loud audible splashes could be heard as Devith dug his claws into the sandy rocky bottom of the lake to propel himself in all his snarling angry glory towards his fallen rider and the enemy bronze rider. He had kept her safe through this entire campeign and he would not have her harmed here in his own territory after the battle had been won and certainly not by some uppity two-legger!
GET YOUR FILTHY HANDS OFF MY RIDER! Devith roared his voice dark and deep with fury his eyes a whirling angry red as he snarled flashing his fangs as he charged towards the pair.

Z'fer's satisfaction at having finally captured her was short lived. He narrowed his eyes with suspicion. She shouldn't be the one grinning right now. He'd caught Her. "Pleasure my as--Shards and Shells!" He cried out, rolling off of her and out of the way of the charging dragon. He rolled to one knee, his injured leg propped out to the side and his good beneath him, ready to rise to his feet at a moment's notice. Dragon's didn't attack humans! Unless their rider's life was threatened and even then it took a lot to drive one against that instinctual limitation. Why was this silver charging him over a young girl? His head whipped back to Hekate laying in the water. "You're a Sharding RIDER?!"
Calanoth reared his head back at the young silver's loud cry. The sight of him barreling down upon Z'fer spurred the bronze into motion, his larger size making short work of what distance was between them. He bellowed and spread his wings, making the most of his size. Tinges of orange filtered into his gaze. He'd fought off one Weyrling and he wasn't about to let another harm His. ~ You will STOP! ~

With the two-legger now clear of his rider Devith leaped putting all his strength into his back legs to pounce landing on all fours over his rider snapping his tail about her protectively and curling over her wings fanned hissing and snarling at Z'fer. One clawed hand half raised he menaced the air cutting a small if not rather frightening figure with his distinctive markings. BACK! Devith snarled his head shifting from the two-legger to the bronze his growling only increasing.
She is Mine! You CANNOT have her! The young silver growled up at the bronze though he did lower his paw, but made no move to retreat the strange bronze's orders holding little weight against the arrogant young hatchling.
Very slowly Hekate pushed herself up onto her elbows draping her arms around Devith's neck to give him a hug lifting her hand to run it over his face a loving look in her eyes before she turned to look at Z'fer a grinning like a feline. "Guilty as charged." She answered before turning her attention back to Devith.
"Shhhhh Devith. They won't take me now will you Z'fer? Relax life of Mine the silly man simply startled me. What with the yelling and having that big bronze of his charging up." Hekate assured her lifemate as the dusky silver relaxed a little a bit of blue mixing with the red and yellow of his eyes. Slowly he shifted keeping his tail still wrapped tight around his rider he took a seat beside her in the water watching Z'fer warily.
His growling though would begin again and kick of an octave every time the man moved or tried to get closer. And WHO might you be to address MINE in such a way? Devith asked eying Z'fer with displeasure. Is this two-legger yours big one? The young silver inquired puffing himself up slightly to look as big and as regal as his rather commanding tone conveyed. In the end though it added less then an inch to the young hatchlings height making him far from impressive compared to the massive bronze, but in Devith's mind the other dragon's size hardly mattered.
He could take him.

Calanoth snorted eyes whirling redder with the little one's continued aggression. ~ I don't want Yours Silver. But you will Not harm Mine. ~ Calanoth's voice was quiet but commanding as he lowered his head to Devith's level, lips curled back just the slightest over long fangs. Prideful little silvers or not Calanoth was a Wingleader and a Bronze. He WOULD be listened to.
Z'fer rose from his kneeling position, hand hovering over his belt knife. If this dragon wanted a fight he'd get one. Wounded or not Z'fer had fought a little of everything in the past few sevenday. Pulling a knife on a dragon while once completely unheard of, was almost instinctive by now. Self preservation ruled everyone now. As he put weight on the injured leg again he gave an involuntary cry of pain, the knee folding beneath him and sending him back to the water. He growled with pain and agitation, rage and pain filled eyes still on the silver and his deceitful, beautiful rider. "Sharding tunnelsnake...never should have danced with you." He muttered. "Who am I?" He spoke louder to be heard over the growling dragons. "Ask your Rider! She knows exactly who I am! Though I obviously have no idea who she is!"
~ He is Mine and you will stand down if you know what's good for you and yours. We intended you no harm. ~ Calanoth took another step closer, angling his body towards Z'fer protectively. Devith could puff up all he wanted. Calanoth would always be larger.

I had no intention of harming him merely encouraging him to step away from MINE. Devith replied turning to stare the bronze straight down narrowing his own little eyes at the over large fangs. Was that supposed to scare him? Only his rider's steady hand and a shake of her head kept that rather arrogant young silver from giving Calanoth a look at his own teeth.
"Now now no need for name calling." Hekate replied with a grin unphased by the clash of the many large male egos around her. "And you know you loved every sharding minute of it~" She teased as she stroked her little silver's head doing her best to seem unconcerned.
Oh he's THAT two-legger. Devith replied suddenly relaxing and folding his wings giving Z'fer a rather satisfied contempt filled look. Devith had after all already won that battle and between the two males he had come out the victor.
Now seeing his opponent face to face the silver determined he was certainly more then a match for the foolish two-legger.
"Yes Devith he's that Two-legger and a Wingleader which means despite him yelling at us, charging me, tackling me, and now considering drawing his knife on us we should probably haul his butt out of the sand before he makes his injuries even worse." She added with a low sultry chuckle, the same chuckle that'd sent shivers down Z'fer's spine not days ago as she began sloshing her way over to the injured man.
"And perhaps Wingleader if you'd move your hand away from your knife and let me help you I might just tell you who I am." Hekate replied bending to grin down at the hurt rider and offering him a hand as Devith prowled after her head held high.
He was silly and startled Mine then threw himself at her and interrupted our nice bath. She hadn't even gotten under my wings yet and we were going to go for a swim. Devith replied rumbling out his displeasure his tail throwing up little waves where it twitched with his rather hatchling like irritation. Despite his more demanding tones Devith was certainly a very prioritized little dragon and he had been enjoying his rider's company.

"I could call you a lot worse than that girl." Z'fer growled and rather than let his pride get injured any further, shoved himself back to his feet, ignoring the lightheaded rush that came from standing so fast. Maybe he wasn't healing as well as he had thought. He didn't try to walk though. Last thing he needed was to collapse again in front of her. Her dragon was already giving him a rather condescending look that made his stomach twist in disgust. Her Dragon! Scorch the girl he'd never met one that was more trouble and he'd only spent a candlemark or two at most in her presence!
The way she put it though made him look like the bad guy...~ We are not the bad guys Mine. I did not charge her and you couldn't very well speak quietly at that distance.~ Calanoth was firm in his private defense of their actions.
~ Yeah but I did tackle her and almost draw my knife. ~
~ She ran. You were threatened. Only reasonable for you to do so. ~ Calanoth folded his wings but didn't drop his guard. He turned his ever bluer gaze back to Devith. ~ If yours hadn't run like a frightened wherry then mine wouldn't have needed to give chase. We hadn't expected to meet you here. Or to learn that she was a rider as well. Now, even with my girth, there seems to be enough lake for us both to bathe isn't there? ~
Z'fer's eyes regained focus as the short conversation ended. He met her amber stare and flashes of unwanted memory arose to distract his thoughts. Angry as he was she was still to sharding interesting to ignore. "I'm standing. Who are you?"

His growling was met with only a delicately arched eyebrow from Hekate as she watched him rise. Betweening in the air around her returned Prince and Lady. The Silver landing on her shoulder to chitter at her scoldingly. Look at her! Worse! Look at her hair! And he'd worked so hard to pretty it up. Sifting through her soaked locks the little firelizard began to try and groom out some of the dirt from his mistresses fiery strands.
Lady on the other hand took a much more defensive stance settling down on Hekate's other shoulder to wrap her tail around her mistresses neck and eye the man warily. "Hush you two." Hekate scolded with a smile patting their little heads before turning her ever amused gaze to the puffed up bronze rider.
"I am exactly who I told you I was. My name is Hekate, daughter of a small time trader, resident of Trine. Of course you neglected to ask if I was a rider, but I take it you didn't see Dizzian and I's dragons draped over the bench at the time." She answered before turning and motioning to Devith, the silver taking the cue as the attention shifted to himself to draw himself up wings half mantled and eyes whirling sensing his impending introduction.
"And this is Silver Devith the crowning jewel of Brakiath's last clutch and partner to myself." Hekate introduced her lifemate with a loving smile.
"Devith this is Z'fer Wingleader of Malvren." She added as an after thought as her silver strutted up to her side to take a seat and eye the man allowing his eyeriders to be scratched. Deciding that the injured man was of little to no threat to His Devith turned whirling blue and green eyes on his lifemate.
I shall join the bronze in bathing. Kindly finish my wings when he has been dealt with. Devith commanded though his tone softened with his Rider giving her hand a gentle nuzzle before strutting into the deeper water leaving Hekate to shake her head at him.
Yours did not ask nor did he have to give chase, but Mine seems to tolerate him so all is forgiven. I do believe that yes there is enough lake and my hide itches. My sister could not come bathe today. . . It is not much fun to bathe alone. Devith rumbled or rumbled as much as his little form could though his usually darker more commanding tone took a softer more plaintive one as his thoughts turned to his injured green sibling. He quite missed her presence and it was so much fun to rile her.
Watching her dragon go Hekate turned back to Z'fer. "You're probably just making your leg worse standing there. Do you want some help or not? It'd be a shame if it got infected and we couldn't dance again." Hekate murmured a small frown tugging at her lips. She had oh so enjoyed their dance. It'd been ages since she'd found someone who could keep up with her.

Firelizards...their appearance did nothing for Z'fer's mood. They payed him no mind so he did the same. "Hekate." he repeated her name, it was the same she'd given him that night, when he'd asked her nature. If her dragon had in fact been there then he certainly didn't notice. Though the rate at which Silvers grew meant it was quite possible. His brow furrowed as she continued her introduction. The silver from Brakiath's clutch? He'd heard about her latest clutch, word had spread like wildfire that the ailing Queen had birthed a remarkably small clutch with 5 living atypicals. Part of that rumor also included a nicely exaggerated account of the shocking Impression made by the last dragon to hatch. "You're the drudge." It wasn't a question but a statement of fact.
Z'fer waved off her offer of help, the pain from his leg deflating his anger somewhat. There was no venom in his next words. "The one good thing about this weyr is the warm waters...and Cal needs his bath."
Calanoth shifted his weight side to side for a moment, fussing with some internal dilemma before addressing Hekate directly. ~ Help mine into deeper waters if you will. He won't tell you how bad his leg is. ~ He trotted himself out into the blue lake, his great chest heaving a happy sigh as the water took his weight. He arched his neck towards Devith concern in his voice. ~ Did your sister not make it? ~ Many dragons had been lost at Malvren, he didn't expect Trine to have made it through without their own deaths.

The word! The man had used the word! Both little firelizards turned at their owners rising ire hissing and flaring their wings, well the green at least. The silver just settled for scolding him for a moment before continuing to attempt to fix the red-head's hair.
Bending slightly she all put ripped the fallen hems of her pants from the lake with a watery snap to retie them about her thighs the motion giving away the anger that she kept hidden from her face. Her eyes though seemed to burn as she leveled her amber gold gaze with his. "Yes I'm The Drudge." She snapped her voice sharp as a whip crack as she half turned making to go into the deeper water and swim with her dragon. Her rich orange tunic was already soaked so it mattered little now if she went all the way in when a very unfamiliar voice in intruded in her thoughts.
For a moment she paused collecting herself. Only because you asked. She replied before turning around and stalking back over to Z'fer to take his arm.
"Come along Wingleader Let's get that sand out of your leg." She eplied all put practically dragging Z'fer into deeper water until the two were almost up to their necks, or well at least Hekate. To Z'fer it was just below shoulder level. Hekate's fury though was only increased when such movement reminded her just how perfectly she fit up against the infuriating man's side.
"Here lift your leg up. I'll see about rinsing the worst of it out." Hekate added glancing over her shoulder to check of Devith.
I am fine Mine. You are not a Drudge. You are Mine. Devith assured here from where he paddled in the deeper water diving every so often.
My sister was attacked by one of those despicable disgusting creatures. A bronze one no less almost twice her size the coward. She was badly hurt, but is awake. She cannot yet leave the big cloth building where they fix the two-leggers and smaller dragons. Devith replied fuming as the little hatchling dove surfacing a few feet away fanning his little wings to propel himself around the massive bronze surfing the waves his form caused.
I will find it and bring it to her later to use as a chew toy. The little silver assured Calanoth his tone becoming much more cheerful at the thought of doing unto that wher what had been done to his sister.

Firelizards...If he wasn't stuck with two of them he'd start to hate the little buggers. Just plain annoying is what they were. Still, Hekate's anger at being called a drudge was interesting and something to file away for later. He watched her storm into the water, his scowl shifting lightly as the corners of his lips rose. He was surprised then when she returned, just as angry and grabbed him by the arm. He stumbled forward, startled and swearing as his torn calf complained at the abuse. He didn't resist as she dragged him deeper into the water. Tempers high or not, having her so close again wasn't altogether unpleasant. He had to remind himself that he was still angry over being left alone at the Gather, attacked by her dragon, accused of assault, and lied to.
Calanoth nodded to Hekate, stretching his own wings out to float them on the surface as he sunk his neck below the water. Headknobs and nostrils broke the surface as the ripples and dark water of the lake set his eyes glowing through their inner lid. ~ A Wher? I will join you then. I owe them a few myself. One for every scar on my hide. ~ Eyes whirled red and claws flexed on imagined prey. While some of his wounds were from dragon claws, he wouldn't forgive those nasty beasts for what they had done. His Queen was dead. Slain by their leader. Even Calanoth's jaws made an audible click beneath the water's surface.
Z'fer left the water lift him up, feeling at home in it's cool embrace. He'd been born for the sea and while this wasn't exactly salt water, it was familiar and comforting to float so effortlessly. He leaned back, just using the slightest arm movements to keep his head above water. "No you don't want to mess with that. It's nothing girls should see. Just let me soak."
He cast his eyes sideways at her. "So my little dancing flit, how does the daughter of a trader turn drudge then dragonrider?"

"I can assure you I've seen worse." Hekate snapped back at him, but quieted slightly letting the water soothe away her temper, Devith's mood did little to alleviate her anger. For both their sakes though she tried to calm.
"I don't make it a point to tell strangers my life's history." She replied her tone once more taking on that dangerous purr as she carefully tugged at the bandages to unwind them and let the water shift away some of the sand caught in their folds before it got into the wound. "Besides if you're not careful this dancing flit might just flutter away again." Hekate teased, but her touch was softer as she tended to the wounds. Irritated or no she would at least try not to do further damage to his leg lest she risk not being able to steal him for a second dance.
You have a rather nice hide. Not as nice as mine, but my Rider is very good at taking care of my hide. Maybe if you asked her she would do yours as well? Devith replied padding over to the larger bronze and scouting out an uninjured spot on his submerged neck to scramble up on and drape himself over.
Deciding to abandon ship Lady flitted over to land on one of Calanoth's head knobs and chirp inquisitively down at him. This wasn't a dragon! It was an entire Dragon shaped funny colored mountain!

"Nah. Now I know where you are. Calanoth could find you." Even though he'd told her no she began to undress his leg anyways. As the bandages peeled away the torn surface of his calf seeped little trails of red into the water. The deep and narrow punctures where a wher hatchling had bit into his flesh had yet to fully close over. He hissed as the fresh water hit them. "I do make it a point of knowing what I'm dealing with, given the current situation." As much as he'd like to trust her, it seemed rather far fetched for one as young as her to have had so many lives already. He, like the other Wingleaders and their Weyrleader R'hix, had a duty to protect those riders that remained from Malvren. Trust wasn't something he could give lightly anymore.
Calanoth chuckled as the silver crawled up on his back. Vague memories of this happening before teased his mind but he couldn't recall them clearly. ~ Mine cares for me well but one can only do so much for Threadscores and claw marks. I am still quite handsome and the scars do not bother me. ~ He kept his body still, looking up at the little green flit. He blew bubbles into the water and rumbled like the old mountain's sometimes do.
