Even in the aftermath of battle - when the Weyr was in ruins, some parts still smoldering, some parts still stained with thing's D'lin would rather not know of..it seemed that life had a way reminding you that it went on regardless. Such was the feeling that D'lin received when he cleared away some rubble in the building which had once been the head quarters of his Wing..and found a tiny clutch of flit eggs. He'd thought for sure they were dead, reached down to clear them out when Vixen - the green pest arrived to scold him. They weren't her egg's..he'd have known if the miserable brat had risen but after nipping his fingers she made it clear that the eggs we still alive..and hten went to steal some of his lunch.

Ignoring the brat D'lin whistled to those working nearby to get their attention. "Some flit eggs over here if you want one" He called out..and since he'd found them and it was nice to think that something good might come out of the ruins of his headquarters he selected a nice blue colored one to keep for himself.

D'lin is keeping egg number 4..the rest are up for RP grabs. If you'd like an egg simply make an RP post, roll a 100 sided dice and in about 48 hours from now I'll reply - highest roll = first pick and so on and so forth until the remaining eggs are gone.))

Hekate having been unable to join in on some of the heavier fighting had thrown herself whole heartedly into the work of clearing up the Weyr and attempting to rebuild. Mostly because the healers had finally chased her and Devith away from Dizzian and Courath's beds and also because she hoped to find some sign of her friends parents to bring back to her. She was snooping around clearing up bits of broken wood and trying to figure out which hut had been Dizzian's when she heard a man call out from another ruined hut.

He says there are flitter eggs there Mine. Surely checking on the likes of them is much more refined work for the likes of us then this. Devith, the dusky silver added as he padded up to his rider's side from where he'd been lounging nearby in the shade taking a break.

"We're setting an example for the others." Hekate explained for the third or perhaps it was the fourth time to her lifemate though glancing down at her dusty attire she frowned in distaste.

Giving herself a little shake she sent the cloud of dirt into the air drawing a sneeze and a flare of wings from Devith to send the unwanted dirt on it's way. The mention of flitter eggs had not been missed by Hekate's other companions as Prince, the young silver raised his little head cheeping incisively. Hey! Hey! He wanted to see the babies! Take him to see the babies! The little silver insisted rubbing his head affectionately against Hekate's cheek. Lady, the green took a more direct route tugging on one of her mistresses short red locks in the direction of the yelling.

"All right! All right! We will give it a look!" She barked out silencing her fair's insistant chatter as Devith watched on with an amused smirk before leading the way to D'lin and the little nest.

Peering down at the circle of eggs Hekate arched an eyebrow. Impressive that they survived in all this rubble. Said Devith moving to nose the little clutch only to think better of it at Lady's hissing.

He certainly didn't want a set of claw marks on his handsome snout. "It was likely the rubble itself that saved them from being stepped on in all this commotion." The young rider added stroking her young dragon's eyeridges as they looked the clutch over.

F'iar, still in shock over the destroyed Weyr, was helping out cleaning stuff up and making new ropes for other people, heard the call about flit eggs. He looked to the green sleeping on Solath and figured it wouldn't be that bad to have another around.
Do it. They are a great help. Solath gave him the image of S'kiro working with his. You are right. I will see if I get one. With that, he put the small rope around his knife, grabbed some meat and went to see the eggs. Getting there he seen Hekate also looking at the eggs. "Did you bring any food over, in case they hatch now?"
PostPosted: Sat Aug 11, 2012 5:26 pm

Hekate half turned at the other boys approach, Devith peering around his rider's legs to eye the newcomer skeptically. He'd been one of the boys to impress a blue from the same clutch as Devith hadn't he? She was sure he had.

"I have some meat and treats on me I keep around for when my two are feeling peckish." Hekate explained patting a small pocket on her pants, the motion quite carefully watched by not one, but two sets of eyes as what had at first looked to be a silver necklace from a distance suddenly twitched. Cracking one whirling blue and green eye, Prince, the young silver let out a cheep. Was it treat time already?

"No you lazy little thing~" Hekate soothed softly stroking the little atypical's head. "You've had more then enough this morning, anymore and you might just pop." She scolded shaking her head before returning her gaze to F'iar with a confident if not slightly apologetic smile.

Yes. . .he'd been one of the ones she'd seen too was brought back from the raid at Benden. She remembered him now, he'd greeted Dizzian quite nicely.

I will have words with my brother. Devith informed his rider, satisfied that Solath's two-legger would be appropriately respectful of His before stalking off. Hekate merely answered with a nod and a small smile watching as the silver went to find his blue brother.

Ah Brother Dear. Devith practically purred his voice low and commanding as ever as he stalked up to his blue sibling. How fairs you and Yours?

Cai couldn't spend all of her time hovering over invalids as much as she'd like to never leave the relative safety and familiarity of the Healers tent. She's liked Malvren's caves. While it was a seaside cliff rather than a volcano's bowl, it had that closed in comfortable feeling of home. Trine on the other hand felt so exposed spread out under the sun. The hot, unforgiving, sharding sun. Fair freckled skin did NOT take well to so much exposure. She was already red and beginning to blister. With the lack of supplies she couldn't even claim a small container of balm to sooth her frayed nerves.

So while others spent their time cleaning up the wreckage out of doors, Cai hid inside, a found scarf wrapped around her head to protect her neck and scalp and gloves on her slender hands, lifting rubble and tossing it outside to waiting crews. She paused in her labors as D'lin called out. She hadn't quite heard what he'd said but as people began to gather she slipped her gloves off and went over to investigate.

"What's all this now?" She demanded when she got close enough, standing near a couple of Weyrlings. She didn't see the clutch at first as their young dragons were a more interesting distraction to the red head.

Kalania had never been so sore in her life. Ever since the Malvren resistance supporters had been evacuated to Trine, she had done nothing but move. Moving rubble, moving supplies, moving people, moving out of the way of others... Everyone had been tasked with the reconstruction of the Weyr, including the Candidates from Malvren. The only balm to the whole situation was the discovery of her flighty little flit, Berylin.

Finding the little green's egg had been like finding water after being in a desert for weeks. Kalania was shy on her good days; being thrown into an over-full Weyr with everyone's stress permeating the very air, it had been difficult for her to make friends.

When she heard D'lin's voice, she raised her head, wiping the sweat from her brow. A nest? She nearly jumped to her feet in excitement. Maybe she could give Berylin a friend?

Turning to the new red head who approached. . .definately not a Trine local by the look of her garb and fair skin Hekate nodded a solemn greeting. Devith noticing the newcomer's stare stopping in his tracks to casually begin preening.

The display was nothing short stunning of course which drew a light chuckle from his rider's lips. We were made to be admired were we not? Such radiant beings as us? Devith mentally rumbled to his rider stepping back up to the group and passing almost within touching distance of Cai to lean against his rider's side draping himself about her feet.

"Devith." Hekate greeted her dragon, more so the newcomers would know how to properly address him rather then her own benefit before turning to level her gaze of Cai. She took note of another meeker looking girl who had stepped up as well and she in turn got a nod of greeting. Even the young silver eyed the two determining if they were worth his time or not before giving the slightest inclination of his head to acknowledge their presence like a King looking down from his throne rather then where he and His were perched on top of a pile of rubble.

"Clutch of firelizard eggs have been found. Seems like they survived the fighting well enough." She gave a quick to the point summery taking care to lower a hand and stroke Devith's eyeridges as she spoke raising a low croon from the young dragon.
PostPosted: Sun Aug 12, 2012 12:41 pm

"Firelizard clutch huh..." Cai half mumbled as she crouched down, sparing a quick glance towards the clutch before returning her attention to the hatchlings. She looked them both over, making note of the differences between the blue and the silver. Even at only a few months old the growth difference was becoming noticable. "They're from the same clutch now right? Brakiath's latest? Last I'd heard she was in a coma." She didn't touch them but her hand was held out, tracing the contours of each dragonet in the air, comparing the sleek form of Devith to Solath's more muscular frame. "Silvers are supposed to be the size of greens when they hatch. Do they normally grow so fast?" She couldn't help if her interest in the dragons outweighed that of the eggs. Benden only had one crimson and Cai hadn't had the opportunity to watch her grow seeing as she'd only just returned from the Harper Hall when the revolution took place. A little over a month ago? Time had flown through the chaos. None of the dragon healers at Benden had seemed inclined to talk much about atypicals either. What use had Benden for weak runts as they put it?

Devith's eyed the girls odd movement with interest watching as she traced her finger in the air glancing from him to his brother. What a strange strange two-legger Devith mused to his rider who merely grinned and stroked his little dusky head.

I don't think she's ever seen an atypical before Devith or at least most certainly not one as fine as you. Hekate replied trying no to let her grin spread as the young silver seemed to puff himself up half unfurling his wings under such rapt attention.

You may inform her that she is allowed to admire me at a closer distance. The silver regally replied to his life mate drawing a chuckle from the red-haired young rider's lips before she turned her amber gold eyes back to the other girl.

"Yes they're both from Brakiath's last clutch. Devith here was the only metallic of the group. Not that anyone can blame the Queen for that, what with her having to rise without her rider, but the Weyrwoman's woken up now so things should get better." Hekate carefully explained only to have Devith nudge her with a pointed stare.

"He says you can come closer if you like. He's rather fond of having his eyeridges scratched and as long as your complimentary you'll have no trouble out of him." She explained casting the girl a smile as she motioned her over. Not that anyone could really blame Cai for hesitating, after all Hekate and Devith did tend to cut a rather regal and intimidating stature even on their good days. Of course the fact that both rider and dragon made it a point to look impeccable might have had something to do with it.

Considering her questions carefully Hekate nodded. "Actually they can be even smaller then greens or so I heard. Devith when he hatched was pretty healthy for an atypical and was close to the same size as his green sister Courath at the time." Hekate explained pausing to check Devith's size against his blue sibling Solath. Even under a short month the silver had almost doubled in size closing in on where a bronze hatchling would have been right out of the egg. With the amount of oiling she had to do to his hide to keep it healthy she guessed that by the time they became senior weyrlings he'd be triple the size of a healthy green, possibly more.

"Trine doesn't have many silvers, but I'm told his rapid growth is normal and healthy. In fact I've only ever heard of one other being hatched here and I've certainly never run into them. I'm Hekate by the way and as you've already guessed the handsome beast next to me is Devith. Where might you be from?" She questioned making it a point to carefully introduce herself and her lifebond. After all there was no harm it letting the others get a good look at the eggs while she conversed.

Cai looked up sharply as Hekate chuckled, eyes narrowed. She relaxed as the woman invited her closer though. She must have just been talking with her dragon. Riders were known for strange outbursts like that. Cai smirked, one reason why holders always found them so odd. "Well I don't intend to insult him." She stood up and stepped closer, kneeling down again to be on level with the dragonet. Cai listened with half an ear as Hekate explained about Devith's size. She instead cupped his chin gently with one hand and gave his ridges a quick rub. She was still new to dragon anatomy but the subject was one she found very interesting.

"Her rider was the one in the coma? That explains it then. I couldn't believe a dragon could rise while unconscious. Even though word is the whole clutch was rather off and sickly. You must be glad she's awake now. Malvren's Weyrwoman was killed by Keller. Of the three weyrs you're the only one with a Weyrwoman left." She shifted further to the side to look over Devith's body. "Benden. Went to Malvren first then came here." Her hands stroked down his neck, feeling the muscles underneath the spicy scented hide. "Silver's hides are supposed to crack as they grow. But his looks alright...wait... What happened there?" She pointed to his left hand, spotting the odd wound between two of his digits.

Hekate watched Cai carefully keeping a sharp lookout on the woman's movements. While she knew it'd be pure foolishness to try and harm Devith with her standing right here Hekate's paranoia was rather acute since the attacks. After all taking a silver out could do serious damage to a Weyr's flaming force with the loss of Devith's superior firepower.

Devith held very still for Cai allowing her to grip his chin and even rewarded her eyeridge rub with a low pleased thrumm. He watched as she examined/admired him, his eyes a rich whirling blue green.

"Brakiath was quite wide awake and aware of her surroundings despite her rider being in a coma and Queens don't really have much of a choice when it comes time for flights. You were misinformed about the clutch though~" Hekate continued hoping to cut the girl off before Devith took notice, but it was a little late. Never so much as twitching the rest of his body Devith slowly turned his head to eye Cai critically.

My siblings and myself are quite healthy. Perhaps our clutch was not as uniform and common as I am told those on Benden sands are. However you will find my siblings and I are a superior breed in terms of intelligence, individuality and courage. The silver corrected her his voice a commanding dark rumble of barely restrained civility. A voice that seemed somewhat out of place from such a small dragon, but as Hekate had mentioned Devith would not be small for long.

Letting the silver finish Hekate let out a small cough before continuing. "Yes I am aware of what happened to Malvren's Weyrwoman. I'm very glad to hear that ours is awake again. So you're Benden born hmm? My mother was from Benden. In fact I was born there though I grew up in the South." Hekate continued hoping to distract the girl.

Tell me you didn't frighten her too bad? Hekate asked trying to sound more concerned and less amused in her own mind.

I merely corrected some of her misinformation. Devith replied sounding as regal and smug as ever drawing a sigh from Hekate. At his rider's concern though the hatchling did turn glancing back at Cai a second time before responding.

You do however have my permission to continue your questions and examination. Mine is under the impression you have never seen the glory of one the likes of myself. The silver added giving the girl a rather regal nod and raised his paw flexing his claws to better show off his battle wound at her spotting the small still fresh scar there.

"Silver's hides don't actually crack as they grow, at least not if you're careful. However they need a good deal more oiling then even a bronze hatchling, but as long as you properly care for them their hide is just as tough and healthy as a normal dragons~" Hekate answered trailing off as she followed Cai's gaze to Devith's foot with a frown.

"Ah. . .that." The girl added her tone darkening with distaste as the memories returned. "When Trine was first attacked a number of the hatchlings and their riders were still trapped inside. Devith and myself patrolled the woods a ways out from the Weyr hoping a few of them with their smaller dragons might have been able to slip out unnoticed and be hiding awaiting help." Hekate began bending slightly to take her dragons paw running careful loving fingers over the still light fresh scar.

"We found one, a boy and his blue dragon. At first we were elated to see them, but as we approached they lashed out at us catching Devith and I by surprise. They had turned traitor. I took care of the rider while Devith entered the fray tangling with the blue hatchling." She explained letting go of Devith's front foot and reaching a hand up to lovingly stroke the young dragon's head.

I sank my fangs deep into the traitor's neck. He will bare the mark of my fury till the day he goes between for such a betrayal. Devith hissed his eyes bright with renewed anger as the memories came back to him. Even if his mind forgot the scar would remain and it would remember for him.

"Yes you certainly made him pay." Hekate replied soothing her furious lifemate with a soft smile. "Anyway about half way through the fight he discovered a knife on the ground and drew it on me. He was clumsy with the blade and it was clear he wasn't well versed in it's use so I still had some advantage, but near the end I stumbled and he tried to slash at me. Devith would have none of that and managed to shove me most of the way out of the attack, but it caught him in the shoulder." Hekate added gently lifting her dragons wing to reveal another shallow cut along the silver's hide. "Then when he tried to recover and finish me off Devith leaped up to try and batter the knife out of the boys hand and it caught him there between his toes on his front paw. In attempting to get the knife Devith distracted him long enough for me to slip under the boy's guard and put him on the ground. Unfurtunately the boy escaped, but it'll certainly be a fight he won't soon forget." Hekate finished her story Devith practically beaming in pride at his rider's deeds and his own fighting prowess.

He thought that because my rider was female that she would be easy prey, but it was he who fell to Her claws. The fool will think twice before trifling with the likes of us again. Devith explained to Cai his voice practically lighting up with viciously pleased pleasure at Hekate's triumph.
PostPosted: Mon Aug 13, 2012 1:54 am

Cai made a strange face, her hand faltering as Devith spoke to her directly. It wasn't long before she was glaring at the little creature. "But not in terms of size or manners I can see. You may be metallic but you're still an atypical. I think I'm done for now." Was her quick retort. She rocked back on her toes before standing with a huff, dismissing the dragonet in favor of his rider.

"Hmm. I'm surprised Trine let their weyrlings patrol, even in a time of strife." She glanced at F'iar at the mention of a boy and his blue though as the story continued she realized he was not the one she meant. Cai discreetly shifted back as Devith hissed his anger. So she'd had an advantage against a knife? Cai almost asked why but waited for Hekate to finish, eye's lidded in a slightly condescending way. She certainly liked to tell stories. A simple knife fight with a traitorous weyrling would have sufficed but no, she had to drag it out and waste their time with a flowery tale. Cai fingered the gloves tucked into her pocket. Honesty their time would be better spent continuing their work instead of huddled around a forgotten clutch of flit eggs.

"Well I can't say I'm glad to experience first hand the rumored silver ego. I can see it runs true in your Devith though." She folded her arms. " I suppose with one as 'glorious' as he couldn't be held back from the fighting huh?"

If Cai couldn't appreciate being spoken to by him then he certainly wouldn't give her the pleasure of doing so again. The silver did on the other hand take note of the girl's subtle back step at his hiss of anger. She was afraid. . .she should be as the hatchling narrowed his gaze at her tail lashing and twitching angrily despite the soothing hand of his rider.

Hekate's smile suddenly became a good deal less friendly, but it was a smile all the same as she listened to Cai's complaints. Still an atypical huh? So what they said about Benden really was true. Beneath her touch Devith became eeriely still his gaze shifting up to his rider. He knew that smile. That was the smile she smiled before she tore something apart. As the rider listened to Cai drawl on it seemed for all the world as if she was picking the girl apart with her gaze, a distinctly uncomfortable look to have leveled at ones self. At her quip about her dragon's ego and him being unable to stay out of a fray she glanced down to her lifemate scratching his eyeridges. "His actions back up his ego. That's more then can be said for most full grown bronzes. He has a right to be proud." She defended, her tone soft and steady like a velvet sheath to conceal the bite of a waiting knife.

"One major advantage of atypicals you see is that they teach us that threats come in sizes big~" She spoke leveling that same uncomfortably sharp gaze and biting smile at Cai. "Or small." She continued patting Devith's head. "So that we can better protect our Weyr lest we grow too sure in our power and let it fall without a fight." Hekate explained in a tone as sweet as honeyed poison before turning back to the clutch of firelizard eggs.

"Were you thinking on acquiring an egg for yourself?" The young rider questioned in the same sweet tone though some of the edge had gone out of her voice. They were here after all to discuss flits, not dragons.
PostPosted: Mon Aug 13, 2012 5:29 am

D'lin had only been half listening to the conversation between the young women, instead being somewhat busy trying to determine the health of the flit clutch they had found. As far as he could tell all the eggs were in pretty good shape. However even only half focusing on the conversation's he was able to catch some of it.

"Careful what you say about bronzes now" He told Hekate with a smile "Plexith might hear you" Thankfully the overly proud bronze was elsewhere, helping to drag away some fallen debris too large for human hands to handle. Nodding his head slightly to Cai the Wingleader continued "Many Benden riders fought bravely to help us keep Trine, I hope your being made welcome here at Trine." He could have told her that Brakiath's last clutch was fine...but she'd see that for herself as the clutch grew should the Benden riders end up staying that long, and if they didn't well..nothing was likely to change their minds. He could have stated that he'd told the Weyrlings to stay out of the fighting...but there didn't seem much point in chastising people now...so he just opted for politeness, nodding to the others gathered around as well. The lat thing he needed was a political cross weyr argument breaking out.

F'iar nodded as Hekate patted her extras for the two adults she had with her. As he stepped up, he noticed the new comer, one from a different Weyr, approach. Smiling he greeted her, "Hello. Looks like a flit clutch survived."

Solath turned towards his brother. Hello Devith. You are looking better. Good...good He nudged the silver softly, but playfully. Shortly though, he felt a couple of eyes on them. Turning he saw the young woman, watching with interest.
