Theta Hatching Feast It was the day after the Hatching and leaning towards mid afternoon when the barbeques were sizzling and the feast was piled upon the tables for humans and dragons a like. The affair had been set up outdoors at the insistence of the Weyrleader and all were welcome to attend. It went against tradition to open the feast to all riders but he believed the Weyr needed the morale boost, especially after the drama-filled hatching the continued, noticeable, absence of Abigail. He stood by the entrace to the cordoned off area with the tray of knots and handed them out to each of the fine new riders. A mixed batch, this was, small and stunted but he hoped they would prove their worth in the coming months. To the left of the entrance, the feasting tables had been lined up in one long row with the ranking Rider tables at the head and the feasting buckets for the hatchlings sat on the opposite side, filled with freshly butchered meat. Wines and Juices and Water flowed, kept separate for the sake of the Junior Weyrlings. Harpers had set up opposite the head table and played low, energetic songs to encourage mingling and festivities. All Trine PCs are welcome at this Feast

Dizzian could not possibly wait any longer for the Hatching Feast! To get her knots and be recognized as a Rider! The morning had been spent feeding and scrubbing Courath till she shone despite her insistance that she had been bathed just yesterday. A fresh coating of oil had calmed her though and she preened under the attention of Tweaker and Spazz.
The two flits were in high and agreeable spirits as well having received the same treatment with care. For once they weren't causing a fuss and their normal screechings and squabbles were instead twitters and song as they floated on the festive mood. They swept into the feasting area ahead of Dizzian and Courath trumpeting their excitement and preforming loops and spins in the air well above anyone's head.
Dizzian had taken special care with her own appearance as well. Gone were the worn tunics and leggings replaced by the rare appearance of a dress. Dizzian had been saving and updating her dress as needed every turn. Now the dark green skirt hung to her knees with a thin strip of sheer fabric along the bottom. Her torso was bound in a form fitting but not constricting wherhide bodice and the top made decent by an undershirt with long sleeves. She'd even consented to wearing shoes for one, thin pale tan leather slippers. Her cheeks were flushed as she walked up to the Weyrleader and accepted her weyrling knots. It was like a Holder's wedding, she'd waited for this day for so long. Her eyes sparkled with glad tears.
Courath paced along side her rider, eyes whirling pleasantly. She was already ready for her next meal and the buckets smelled quite appetizing. Her's was happy and if she was a little erratic in her excitement, Courath didn't mind.

Peering at her reflection in the still basin of water Hekate carefully lined her eyes with a pale white shadow, the light makeup making the rich amber gold of her iris's stand out all the more. Smiling quietly to herself as she worked she listened to Devith ramble, the silver eyeing his current surroundings in distaste.
This willnot do Mine. We deserve better, we will have better very soon. You say they will move us to a properweyr, yes? Hmph look at you being forced to stoop over a drinkingbowl. My own hide would better reflect Mine's perfection then such a shabby thing. The silver rumbled where he lounged elegantly across Hekate's bed in her former drudges quarters. While they would stay and sleep in one of the temporary weyr's her things had yet to be moved forcing the pair to retreat in order to properly prepare for the night.
Their Night.
"I've never been at Trine for a hatching Devith, but yes I heard the others talking over whom they will be roomed with in the Weyrling quarters. I agree with you though life of mine. We won't suffer such conditions as these for long." Hekate replied looking up to meet Devith's whirling red and orange gaze, his tail tip flicking in irritation at his rider's less then grand surroundings. With a snort though his gaze softened, floods of blue and green replacing the red of anger as he sensed the soothing rush of love that filled their connection.
All the better perhaps that the others had been too foolish to see in His what he had. That simply meant that he had no competition for the diamond in the rough that was his lifemate. A glorious jewel amongst the dust for his eyes and his alone.
We will awe them all thisnight. How is my hide? Devith asked half extending his wings and rolling to allow Hekate to turn and better admire him.
"There's not a dragon on Pern to rival you." Hekate purred turning to reach out and scratch Devith's eyeridges, the silver's eyes whirling in pleasure as he crooned up at her. "I can oil you for a fourth time if you'd like?" She offered making the silver pause as he considered it. While the pleasure of being oiled was tempting he also wished to see to it his was properly dressed to match his glory.
This will do. I am perfection incarnate after all as Mine will be in turn. The dusky silver replied craning his head to admire the mirror sheen of his hide. Hekate had gone over it not once, not twice, but thrice only that night to make sure he would gleam fit to blind a Queen. He was after all a King, the silver thought with a purr.

No. No. No! No! None of these are good enough! I will not have you wearing such things! Devith growled as he dug and prowled through Hekate's small closet tossing this or that outfit from it's depth as he disproved of it. While Hekate's clothes by drudges standards were unusually frivolous and elegant the silver was ill-content with the lot. His rider having dressed, redressed, then redressed again as the hatchling watched on dismissing each new outfit with a snort of distaste or a growl.
"Watch the claws Devith. Those may not meet your approval, but some of them were rather difficult to attain." Hekate corrected him snatching wildly to catch another tossed outfit and set it aside on the bed doing her best to rescue her clothes before the were trampled underfoot.
With a rumbling huff Devith sat down with a thump among the scattered nest of outfits that now lay on the floor of Hekate's closet his eyes whirling with anger as he eyed the offending objects. None of these! None will do! He snarled in distress as Hekate sat gently beside him stroking his neck and head to sooth her disgruntled lifemate sharing in his pain. After a few moments Devith was somewhat soothed under his rider's ministrations though his eyes still whirled with bright spots of red mixed with blue and green.
We must makedo then. Devith finally grumbled getting back up to paw through the fallen clothes shifting them this way and that with claw and snout when something tucked near the back of the closet caught his eye.
This. Mine will wear this. The silver crooned raising on his haunches to carefully grasp the dress in mind and tug it from it's hook the sheer shimmering silver gray silk pooling over his hide as he brought it forth and dropped into into his blinking riders hands.
Holding the dress up Hekate's breath caught in her throat with emotion as Devith sensing the sudden surge of homesickness curled tight against her eyes whirling in confusion. Is it not good enough? He questioned his usually commanding tone going soft in worry as dabbing a few stray tears from her eyes lest her makeup be smudged Hekate shook her head.
"No it's perfect." She assured Devith reaching down to stroke his head lovingly. The dress in her hands was a shimmering sleek silver gray made of thin silk built to fit ones form. Along it's neck and hem was careful embroidery of stars in dainty white thread. She remembered the gown though it'd been gifted to her long ago before she could ever hope to wear it. Her father had snatched it from a cart so many years ago and rather then sell it had gifted it to his young daughter. 'For your wedding' He'd told her, Hekate having not known then what she knew now that he could ill afford to give her a dowery and the most the man could do was see to it that in the future if she ever found a man she would at least have a dress. Of course Hekate had no plans on settling down anytime soon taking after her fathers wandering ways, but he could never have known that and the dress stood as a simple elegant reminder of both the good and bad of her past.
But now it would see her into the future and with determination she slid the gown on tying it up with care as it hugged her form as if made for her.
Mine is beautiful. Devith breathed out in a low loving voice close to a sigh as he watched his rider spin for him. The hem of the dress catching air and settling around Hekate like the petals of a flower.

No noise announced Hekate and Devith's entrance as they strode with pride from the darkened shadows of the drudge's quarters. The residential drudges parting before them like a sea and those who did not move fast enough earning a rumble from Devith. Him and His were to be admired, not touched less these lesser ones mess up his hide and Between pity them should they dare to smudge his rider.
I was a Drudge before you found me Devith. Hekate cautioned silently causing the silver to wrinkle his nose somewhat, but look upon the figures scurrying away from the pair with new eyes. Perhaps if such two-leggers could bring forth one such as his they may deserve further consideration.
Nevermind that. You are Mine now. Devith rumbled in reply puffing his chest up and half spreading is wings as they stepped from the drudges complex into the open air. Now away from the press and crowd Hekate noticeably relaxed, the constant press of bodies from before having made her chest tighten with innate fear. The open air though provided a much needed relief as the pair slipped into the circle of light that was the Hatching Feast.
Almost immediatly the murmer of the crowd dropped an octave as Hekate felt the press of eyes upon her skin. Taking a cue from Devith she lifted her chin amber gold eyes flashing defiantly as the pair strode forward the lamplight playing off the mirror bright sheen of the dusky silvers hide as he strutted up to the Weyrleader along side his as if silently declaring LOOK AT ME AND BEHOLD!
For a brief flickering moment as Hekate looked upon the Weyrleader she was torn. Should she bow to this Weyrleader? This man who would likely see her people burn in writhing threadfilled agony without a single thought to cause him to toss and turn at night. This man who fought the death of Pern and flew against terror itself as a legend? A hero to most, a villain to some.
But he was simply a man and looking closer Hekate could almost see the strain of loss, of worry, of pain. He was simply trying to see his Weyr through this time, to replace those lost in the first fall of thread, to see his Senior Queenrider back to health.
In short he was simply a man. Nothing more. Nothing less. Fate made him what he will or would be and that was all anyone could ask of it. So with a curtsey and a more personal respectful nod Hekate reached out to take the Weyrling knots she had never expected to wear.
Sensing his riders thoughts even Devith gave in, only a little mind. After all he saw little reason to bow to someone whom he had every plan to one day overcome. For the moment though the silver gave the slightest dip of his head in respect if only to show a combined front with his rider.

Mine! We have to go. You need to be there. Solath tried to shove F'iar out the door to head to the feast. The more you shove the worse I will look. Besides we wont be the last ones there. The teen was ready to get his knots, and to talk the green rider. He didn't know her name, only her dragons. He turned to make sure his tunic and pants were still clean and straight. Smiling, he rubbed his hands over Solath, "Lets go."
He walked to the feast, tall and proud. If only his family could see him. Maybe someone with a flit would be willing to let him send a message, even in this large group. Solath's hide gleamed with the care F'iar gave before heading to the feast. The way they walked, it looked like they practiced it. Both of them were hungry, they hadn't taken the time to get much food in before the feast started, so after receiving his weyrling knots, F'iar went to the outer tables with Solath.
*****************************************************************************************
It was time. S'kiro put on his best clothes and went to the feast. He wanted to be one of the first to greet Dizzian. His mine was racing as he knew that she would Impress and she seemed to have doubted herself. Maybe not with words, but looks do speak a lot to him. As he stepped into the feast, he spotted her. A part of him wanted to grab her in a hug and swing her around, but they were only friends and it wouldn't look right. Walking up to her, S'kiro was shocked. She was not in her normal attire. "Congratulations, Dizzian. It is Dizzian still?"

Ailin was surprised to find the entire Weyr welcomed to the Hatching feast. He'd of course worn his nicest Blues and brought his flute with him. He wasn't much of a socializer so rather than 'mingle' with people he barely knew he retreated to the Harpers themselves, finding sanctuary among their number. He lifted his flute and joined in their song, just playing a simple harmony to enhance their song rather than try and show off. The addition of one more player made little difference in the music as a whole, but Ailin felt more relaxed and able to enjoy the day.
He hadn't seen much of his bunkmate since the morning before. When the Candidatemaster said every chore block, it appeared he meant it. Ailin played on auto pilot as his thoughts were elsewhere. He watched the new Weyrlings arrive, some with poise, some awkwardly as they got used to their new bonds. It appeared that most had dressed for the occasion though. He could only liken it to walking the tables as a Journeyman. Though the image was spoiled by some of the younger weyrlings. He wondered what sort of ceremony was about to take place. It had to be more than the Weyrleader handing them their knots.

Dizzian beamed as S'kiro approached. She lept up from the table and threw her arms around his neck and planted a kiss on his cheek in her excitement. "You were right! I did Impress! Her name is Courath and she's WONDERFUL! Thank you so much S'kiro!" To her it was almost as if his encouragement was the deciding factor in her Impression. She clung to him, hugging him tightly before laughing and letting him go. Her face was flushed and her hair a little mussed after her enthusiastic display. She bubbled with laughter and made a face. "I think it still is Dizzian. Courath doesn't seem to mind." She sent a fond look to the green.
The little dragon in question was discreetly nibbling from the buckets, not wishing to mar her new rider's dress with juices. She glanced up unapologetic, her eyes whirlng happy blues and greens.
Dizzian turned back to S'kiro finally taking in his own appearance. "Oh Wow! You look great!" She poked him playfully. "Who knew you'd clean up so good!"

Mine I hunger. Devith reminded Hekate even as she fixed her new knots to her shoulder and reached down to stroke his little dusky silver head.
"Where do you want to sit?" Hekate asked causing Devith to pause and eye the table more carefully and not just the buckets of meat it provided as the pair strode through over. It seemed a few others had made it to the feast before them, notably a green and her very overenthusiastic rider whom Hekate noticed with a amused smirk was all, but jumping over her poor companion in her excitement.
Seeing his other green sibling Devith puffed up his chest half spreading his wings to catch the lamplight as the pair passed. After all he was made to be admired and when better to take his rightful place then before an audience. Still. . .and Devith glanced at the open places for him to choose from. He hardly knew their significance and they all looked more or less the same, but which was the best?
Seeing Devith's confusion Hekate gave him a gentle loving nudge nodding to the head of the table. "How bout there?" She whispered to him with a smile watching as her silver's eyes whirled as he inspected her choice.
CleverMine. We can survey all my siblings from such a place. Now please Mine. I wish to be fed. Devith replied giving a rare plea for his to pick up her pace as the pair settled elegantly at the head of the table with Devith wasting little time dropping his head to feast from the bucket.
Hekate's hand though stopped him. Wait. She mentally urged drawing a low rumble from Devith in his displeasure.
Mine I hunger! What are you doing? The silver growled in confusion and curiosity as Hekate tipped the bucket slightly carefully examining the meat inside before giving Devith a nod.
It's safe. She finally assured him Devith giving pause to glance at the bucket once more. He had not thought of the possibility of treachery, after all he naturally deserved the best. Still the attention to detail his took to ensure that continued safety made Devith preen for a moment, his ire at her commanding him fading. He had chosen the best after all, it only stood to reason His would be as perfect as him in her logic. With this thought Devith dropped his head and with greater pleasure feasted on the meat within.
Hekate rested a light hand on Devith's neck while he ate, a small smile playing over her lips at his happiness while she surveyed the crowd with dark glittering amber gold eyes. Any who met her gaze were greeted with a warm if not somewhat roguish smile. True the Weyr was a safe place, but this event had been thrown open to everyone. While Devith might believe none would wish to see harm to a dragon as great as he Hekate was a good deal more cautious about his health. After all she knew what jealousy could do to a person even as she let her eyes linger on the detailed gold embroidery on a passing woman's corset.
Glancing up at the woman's face though she quickly dismissed the lady. She after all might not have the funds, but Hekate prided herself on her looks and for all her wealth this other could not compare. Letting her gaze drift even as she instinctively slid her eyes over others in a mental check for weapons, she could handle a fight, they came to settle again on the green rider.
Nothing could ever make her happier then her impression to Devith, a thought that drew an echoing croon from where the silver was stuffing his face. Still she didn't know if impression was exactly cause to act. . .well that enthusiastic. Mine is far more refined then my sister's chosen one. Pay them no mind, they are simply here along with all the others to admire us. Devith assured her drawing a light chuckle from Hekate as she scratched his eyeridges drawing forth another croon as the dusky silver's eyes whirled with love.

S'kiro grinned at Dizzian. He was use to her exuberant ways. Casually keeping an arm over her shoulder, "Well, hello green Courath. She is lovely." Knowing that others would be coming around he started to step away. Before hand though, "With Ishbel, she makes sure I look good for times like this. Listen well my friend, things will be busy soon."

Dizzian couldn't help feeling a surge of pride as S'kiro complimented Courath. All of the dragonets were lovely in their own way but Courath was Hers. She tilted her head curiously at S'kiro's words, letting him pull away a little reluctantly. "Well you can tell her that she does a good job! What do you mean by that? You hear something I haven't?" She couldn't help glancing to the side as the new Silverrider approached their table. Now where in the world did a drudge get a dress like that?
There was a surge of happy, tolerant love from the little green dragon in response to Her's admiration and pride. She resumed her meal, noting the nearby presence of Devith. She wasn't sure what to make of the couple at first though for the time being she held firm to her first impression of the flashy silver. Pride wasn't necessarily a flaw but to have it in such quantities could lead to his downfall. Courath could hope that they recognized their own danger and were smart enough to account for it. She would watch, and offer what she could should they need it.

He laughed at Dizzian's look. "Nothing like that. I just mean listen to Masters. Thread isn't that easy, even with a great dragon beneath you." He leaned forward, giving her a quick kiss on the check. "I will be back, need to congratulate the rest of the group, like the new blue rider you were looking cozy with."
Just as he turned, the silver rider was approaching. Looking at her, he could see why the Silver picked her. There was an air about her, which didn't sit that well with him. "Congratulations," He waited for her to say her name.
******************************************************************************************** F'iar watched everyone mingling. This was unusual for him to not be around a group and his hands actually started twitching for the string he started carrying around with him. You can scratch a spot on me, if you need to to something. Looking at the blue, he found a spot that would need oil, again. That spot again? I thought I got it the second time I did your hide. Grabbing another bucket for Solath, he guided him towards the young female from the sands. There seemed to be a decent group there and he would feel better.

Dizzian blushed and grinned at the kiss on her cheek. So he'd noticed that she'd talked to another blue rider huh? It hadn't quite occurred to her at that point that she was a Greenrider now. Someday in the future Courath would rise and she would choose a mate for the both of them. Quite possibly a blue rider. She looked at her green in a new light, contemplating the implications of that. Had S'kiro thought about it? Sure she liked him and certainly found his blushing adorable but had he considered a further relationship for the two of them?
Dizzian kept her thoughts to herself though and waved to S'kiro as he left to make the rounds of the Candidates. Maybe she'd catch him chatting up some new greenrider? She wasn't the only girl to Impress that amorous color this time around. Courath crooned soothingly. ~ Don't worry, I would never choose without your consent Mine ~
Dizzian stroked her. "No, you don't worry Courath, We've both got a long time before we even need to consider that!" Speaking of blue riders though, the aforementioned one just happened to choose that moment to join them at their table. There was a devilish little feeling within her as she again wondered if S'kiro was jealous. A mischievous grin crossed her face. She gestured for the new Weyrling to sit beside her. "Hello again! How are you and Solath fairing?" She'd remembered his dragon's name at least even if she hadn't actually caught his.

Hekate glanced up at the man giving him a polite nod in greeting as her eyes trailed over his form doing a mental check for threats. "Thank you." She replied her voice a silky purr as she offered a hand in greeting. "Hekate. And you would be rider?" Hekate asked tilting her head slightly as Devith looked up from his food, his maw bloody from his meal to give the man approaching His a once over.
Eyes whirling with both curiosity and possessive pride in His the silver settled half his form into Hekate's lap to better peer over her at this new man. Ahh. Someone to admire us in all our glory Mine. He is lucky to be graced with our attention. Devith crooned up at Hekate who blushed slightly and grabbed a handkerchief to dab away the blood along her lifemates mouth lest her smear it over her and himself. An action which drew a second thrumming croon from the young silver.
Looking up at the man a second time Devith considered him for a moment before the young silver's voice boomed through the man's mind. Greetings. Came Devith's short response, the silver deeming little need to speak more when there were so many others to admire His and Him.
It was rather clear to Hekate that Devith had had enough of his fill of the meat since his attention instead turned to half spreading his wings as he perched draped over her lap. Clasping his claws loosely and possessively over her legs so as to not catch the delicate fabric of her dress Devith tilted his head half eyeing his green sister Courath and the new arrival of Solath.

A whole day. It had actually been a while day since Loveth had first cracked open her egg, and the smile still had yet to quite leave her face. She was quite sure that it had stayed there even as they slept. The crimson, herself, was just so excited to be out and about with so many people! And especially with Hers! And now they were headed to the Hatching Feast to celebrate everyone's Impressions. Both were in good spirits, though Aislin wondered fondly if Loveth was ever in bad spirits. Her crimson shone beautifully, her hide carefully oiled and it gleamed like the jewel Loveth was to the redhead. Aislin herself was clad only in a pair of clean trousers with a linen shirt that matched her eyes. Loveth had voiced her approval at the girl's choice, cause her eyes were just so pretty with that shirt on!
Her hair had been allowed to stay down for once, though she was quickly regretting that as she brushed her bangs from her eyes. The ribbon she had been debating on wearing in her hair had instead been gifted to her lifemate and carefully tied in a bow around her neck. 'To match!' Per Loveth's words.
As soon as they reached the actual festivities, both looked around curiously. It would seem that it would indeed be a true party. Hello everyone! Loveth was quick to greet out, eyes whirling a pleasant green as she walked along with Hers to receive the red-head's new knots. It was still like a dream, one that just couldn't seem to get any better. The crimson lovingly nuzzled against her rider. Don't worry, Aislinmine. We are together, and we always will be. Now, let's go see everyone!
Chuckling, she gave a grin before turning around to look at those gathered. She hadn't really talked to most of the other new werylings beyond the occasional greetings, which caused her to hesitate for just a moment. Loveth, however, charged right on into the center of the room which had Aislin quickly hurrying to catch up to her. Hello, Courath! Your hide is looking lovely tonight~! As is Yours! I trust the food is good? Mine feed me earlier but I might take just a bite or two more! Aislin could only giggle to herself. It seemed her lovely Loveth was quite the chatterbox, she couldn't say she was surprised the way she'd been when she hatched.
Ah, Devith! You and yours are looking quite splendid! Loveth would show Hers how one socialized, and eventually she wouldn't hesitate anymore. Almost bouncing, the crimson's attention then veered to another of her clutchmates. Solath~! How are you? Attention then returning to her rider, she crooned encouraging. Seee Aislinmine? It's easy~ Except for the part where now I might have to interrupt someone's conversation. Her comment seemed to be taken quite serious by the crimson, Aislin couldn't help giggling at Loveth's sudden panic. A hand went to stroke the dragon's head lovingly. "I was only teasing, love. Let's grab something to snack on first, and then I'll talk to everyone, promise."
Loveth seemed to take a moment to consider before she turned and started towards the table full of fresh meat. Welllllll~ Since you promise to talk to everyone, I wouldn't mind a bite to eat!
