Adenah

Nicknames: Ade, Deni Race: 1/2 Shifter 1/2 Fire
Parents: Damissan Teslaron & Dris'rynne Siblings: Annatha, Talori, Mahikel, & Ezrah Children: None Physical Description: Full figured hour glass. Hips are slightly bigger than bust, though not by much.
Romantic Status: Taken Partner(s): Dovian Personality: Adenah is a passionate young soul who will pour her entire being into her beliefs, no matter how misguided they may be. Her mother jokingly claims that it's the fire in her, blowing out through her hair, that burns so bright in her heart. She isn't likely to sit back when there is work to be done, nor is she likely to take any sass (without dishing back a healthy helping of her own!). That isn't to say she isn't capable of love; quite the opposite. She prides herself on giving the best hugs (and gifts!) as well as being someone to relish in all of lifes joys, even if they happen to others instead of herself.
Because of bullying and a lack of extended familial acceptance growing up, all stemming from her hybrid heritage, Adenah has grown into a suspicious girl. Around family and close friends she's a very open, warm, always hugging girl but around strangers she's the exact opposite. She tries to be nice, but most of her interactions come off as snarky, if not a little prissy.
Due to the repression she has to endure just to be outside some days Adenah has the tendency to lash out when she's pushed to the edge. In her childhood this took the form of outright tantrums and physical violence, which was always discouraged. As she's grown (and picked up a few tips from 'well meaning' parental figures) Adenah has become more cunning in her revenge. Sometimes she'll trip a debutante in the mud, call an adulterer out if she has the information, or make up some 'little' lie to get back at an enemy. Whatever it takes really; within reason, though.
She's never been pushed far enough to steal or poison, though if the situation were to get nasty enough the right influences may swing her vote.
Interesting facts -Adenah adores food of all types. Spicy, sweet, Zenan, Yaelian; it's all wonderful to her if prepared right. -Consequently her favorite meal of the day is breakfast and she will absolutely refuse to do anything until she's had it -Not a fan of storms; will usually hide away indoors until they pass -Bounces on the balls of her feet when excited

Stage 2 Solo 1
Returning to work in Belpol after a long week in Sulburi grated on Adenah. While she’d been working out contracts in the bigger city their main base had, and always would be, in the smaller northern settlement. Being summoned back ‘home’ was never a good sign, however. Instead of some military regiments that required it’s members to come back for additional training or supplies, being called back to Belpol was akin to being punished. She could have avoided it all together if she’d run. Maybe she could have fought off any pursuers, maybe she couldn’t, but all in all Adenah knew what would happen. If she ran from this then she would be chased until she drew her last breath and that wasn’t a life she wanted to live.
Your mother warned you. Adenah mentally chastised herself. Her escorts flanked her like a miniature battalion. Two in front, two in the back, with a handful scattered around to make sure she didn’t run. Whether they thought her an actual threat or if it was a simple ceremony she would never know. She told you this would happen if you ever disobeyed and what did you do? All you had to do was follow simple rules…
One target per month. A simple stipend for a simple job. One life for a month of easy living and for some reason she’d faltered. Her latest target, a member of lesser royal blood, should have been an easy kill. She was set to travel from Sulburi to a smaller Matorian town with a retinue of six men. All Adenah had to do was strike while she was passing through a ravine and that would have been it. The plan had been mapped out as every other one prior to that had been and yet....she’d failed.
At the very last moment Adenah choked.
Even if she’d been struck blind Adenah wouldn’t have been able to forget the way to the Belpol Irregulars base. The mercenary group had once been a standalone organization that had blended in with the assassins guild over the years. When her mother had led the group they stood for something. A life free of royal rule and governmental control; something pure in the loose morals that it upheld. After their attack on Dris’rynne’s life the group had started slipping. By the time Adenah had foolishly joined they were already knee deep in the blood of innocents and there was no way out for her.
Grunt had changed little over the years. The ex-general was as gnarled as he ever was and had taken to keeping a bald head ever since the scars caused his hair to grow funny. As courageous as he’d been at Dris’rynne’s side Grunt was still a dangerous individual; one of which she’d promised never to contact unless absolutely necessary. A man who could stand side by side with Adenah’s mother was someone to be feared and now that he’d fully immersed himself in darkness...Adenah couldn’t imagine a more fearsome man in all of Oba.
When she was dragged before him Adenah felt the temperature of the room change. Despite the heat pooling in from the desert outside the clay walls felt almost frigid. The assassin shifted until she was sitting up on her knees and when she turned to look into his frozen, dead copper eyes she knew he’d changed.
Whatever love he’d held for her mother had long since faded. The man seated before her wasn’t even the same boss she’d signed under all those years ago.
“Leave us.”
His deep, rumbling tone carried easily across the space and all those who had shown up to watch slipped out of the room. The act only terrified Adenah more. At least with visitors Grunt may have shown restraint. He rarely allowed his true self to be seen in front of his followers. They didn’t need to see the vicious, almost animalistic side of him that had caused the man to be exiled from the Oban military. Only Dris’rynne and her family had ever seen that side of him; the side that was no doubt going to be unleashed upon her.
Adenah pulled at the chains around her wrists. If they had at least bound her from the front then she could reach for something, but with her hands behind her back she was at his mercy.
Step by step his metallic footfalls echoed across the room. Thick, heavy armor encased his body as if Grunt were preparing to go to war at any moment. The thick, heavy sword at his back ‘clinked’ with every other step, reminding her of every time she’d seen him bring it down on an enemy’s neck. How very easily it would rend a skull from the spine…
There had been a time in her youth that Grunt was kind to her; subtle, but kind. He’d been almost like an Uncle to her and Ani. He would watch over them when her mother needed to ‘discuss’ things with a hostage. How many times could she count on him to have sweets stowed away in his pocket? That part of Grunt had faded away. The man who was coming towards her now carried an unmistakable aura of death.
“Hubris has made you dull, Uula.”
Hearing her nickname always reminded her that this was just a job to him; something that he could easily differentiate between the child he’d helped to raise. The way he looked down at her, with only the light of a well placed torch to highlight the corners of his sharpened jaw...it was as if Adenah were looking up at a demon itself.
“The Irregulars don’t kill innocents.”
“That woman wasn’t innocent. Even if she was, her life wasn’t yours to judge.”
“She may not have been, but the child she carried was.” Adenah snarled. “The woman in that carriage was nearly ready to give birth. What threat could she have bee-?”
Adenah nearly bit through her tongue when he backhanded her with a gauntleted hand. The metallic barbs cut through her flesh, leaving her a bloodied mess when she eventually turned back to look at him.
“Because of your inability to follow a simple command I had to dispatch additional units to finish the job. Their pay will come out of your funds, Uula.”
“Drop the formalities. If you’d been prepared to stand in ceremony we wouldn’t be alone.” Adenah groused.
“Have it your way, Adi.” Grunt dropped down into a crouch in front of her and reached forward to snatch a handful of hair in his hand. When he pulled her face closer it was with the full strength of his grip and despite all attempts not to, Adenah cried out. “When Korres left I made a promise to protect her children if they ever came to Oba. I gave you shelter, trained you, helped you to make a name for yourself, and for what? For this?” He flung her back and stood once she’d fallen onto her side.
He’s going to kill me. That was why he’d told everyone else to leave. Why else would he have done it? It was a personal kill, something he wanted to relish in and with an audience Grunt would have had to explain away his callous treatment of the ‘prey’. Adenah rolled back up onto her knees and looked towards where he’d been only to notice that Grunt had moved over to the fireplace.
Fear doubled down like a pit of keldari when she saw him lift a brand from the fire.
“As Korres’ daughter I still have an oath to keep. As much as I’d rather see you burn I did promise your mother to keep you safe. Still, I can’t just let you walk away with a slap on the wrist. You’re a traitor, Uula, and you know what happens when you betray the guild.”
When someone went against the Belpol Irregulars they were beaten, left out in the sun for three days with no water and then let go. Once they joined the guild, however, things had changed. Along with the normal beating they’d taken up the assassins practice of branding the weaker members. One line for a first offence, a second for the next and once the three lines connected then that poor b*****d would be hunted.
The rod burned a brilliant orange in the din of the darkened room. Adenah did her best to get to her feet, but bound as she was the act was far too slow to amount to much. Grunt was on her before she even got one foot under her. She struggled against him, but a swift kick to her gut knocked Adenah onto her back. Her head slammed into the hard, stone ground and before she could think of getting back up his harsh, metallic boots were digging into her sternum.
He bent down just long enough to shove an old, bloodied rag in her mouth. “Bite down on this. Cut through that tongue of yours and you’ll choke.”
It was all the warning she got before the brand latched onto her skin. The smell of burning flesh consumed her and Adenah wasn’t even aware of the outright, inhumane way she was shrieking. He burned from the tip of her right collar bone all the way to the valley between her breasts, taking his long, sweet time before stopping.
By the time he was done the skin was an outright mess. She’d bucked against him, done her best to get away and at times it had only made the rod dig all the deeper in. The world around her had faded out for Adenah. At some point even the sound of her own screams had seemed so far away and only a sense of white noise was there to claim her. She was aware of others coming into the room, of rough hands lifting her by the shoulders and dragging her out, but nothing else.

Stage 2 Growth Solo
[Up until this point Adenah has simply accepted the fact that her life has been handed over to the assassins' guild. She's a hired blade and little more, with a contract that spans a lifetime. At first she was only mildly bothered by the fact her mother's second in command had turned their merc group over to the guild and the way they were now freely killing. After he branded her for failing to murder an innocent, however, Adenah finds herself at the end of her rope. She knows that currently she's incapable of doing much, but by honing her skills she'll be able to put an end to his terror for good.]
Looking at herself in the mirror gave Adenah nowhere to hide from the ugly scar now crossing her upper torso. It was something jagged and awful; clearly meant to make itself known no matter how she might have covered it. Up until that point she’d tried to make due with what she had. She’d gone outside very little, if at all, and when she did it was always with some sort of shawl around her shoulders. A thin piece of linen, something sheer, a scarf; whatever was at hand to hide her failure. Still, Adenah wasn’t hiding out of a sense of disappointment in her work or fear of further punishment from her boss.
In all actuality she was making plans for her revenge.
Grunt was a disgrace to the legacy her mother had left behind. Seeing the distress in Dris’rynne’s eye when she’d arrived in Oba had been heart breaking. Her mother rarely showed open emotion, but to see her shed tears because of something her former subordinate had done...Adenah just couldn’t let it stand. The rage that boiled inside ate away at her guts like venom and if he thought his stunt would quell her rebellion he’d only been fooling himself. Until that moment she’d simply fallen along. Adenah had no real path in life, no ambitions, and when she’d gotten wrapped up in the Belpol Irregular’s new shady business she’d simply allowed it.
No more.
If he wanted her to be a better assassin then so be it. Her monthly assignment would become weekly and her training sessions with Knott would become daily rituals. She’d already told her mother that she wouldn’t be selling her grandfather’s weapons anymore because work would be ‘picking up’ and although Dris’rynne tried to talk her out of it Adenah couldn’t be swayed. Her mother had wanted to settle the score herself, but this wasn’t about her anymore. Dris’rynne had gotten out; she’d done what she could to make things better and settled in Jauhar. She had young sons to look out for. Besides, Adenah was the one who was dealing with this version of Grunt; a version her mother had only gotten a taste of.
So many within the organization had wanted out when he brought their group into the assassin’s guild. Grunt made that choice; not the Irregulars, so why were they being punished? Why did so many fear retribution from simply denying a hit? Mercs had a code, one she had been raised on, and he burned it to ash years ago. If no one else was going to do anything about him then she would.
Adenah was going to put an end to this and reclaim the reputation her mother had worked so hard to attain. They were never a morally righteous group, but they had their standards. That was the group she’d come to Oba to join, not this...this s**t show.
And if she had to become a true devil to root out his evil then so be it.
