Long before the sun would crest over the land, little dusky feet crept along the floor in search of their prey. Chubby toes curled against the worn wood, surprised at the chill; enough, even, to get a little bounce out of the would be sneak. Draped over her was a night gown, dotted with little stitched perzi, fit for sleeping and early morning excursions. As she passed the open doorway to her mother's room, the little one stopped, fearing she had been caught when the woman shifted, but when Dris'rynne was still then Adenah continued her scurrying.

By the time she reached her destination after much stumbling, toe stumping and scares (dropped scarves were monsters in the dark!), Adenah found herself at his door. The toddler opened it with some difficulty (twice more fumbling and a lot of grunting, such that a light sleeper, or even a moderate one, wouldn't be able to sleep through). But here she was!

And with much less care than she had in sneaking there, the little one ran head long towards the bed, careless of anything on the floor she may have tripped over and jumped.

As it turned out, when he wasn't liquored to the point of being little more than a blob, Teslaron wasn't an especially heavy sleeper. He never had been, as he'd always expected himself to be alert and aware of trouble within his household. The fact that his current household wasn't exactly like it'd been previously didn't change matters. Even if the girls weren't infants that needed tending to at all hours of the night, they were still young, and still far too likely to get into trouble when no one was looking.

Or even when someone was.

The first scuttled sound from beyond his bedroom door was alarming due to the fact that he didn't know what it was. It could be any one of his girls (and by the gods, there were days when there was so much estrogen in the house, that he could basically taste it), or it could be something else entirely. Dris'rynne's line of work didn't exactly lend itself to notions of peace and acceptance.

So at that first sound, he tensed, still laying in his bed, but quiet, wary, and stiff. The rest of the sounds that followed sounded too much like the quiet gasps and scuttlings of a little girl to be of any great alarm, and by the time his door creaked open, Tes had shut his eyes again, waiting and expectant of an entirely different thing now.

When Adenah pounced, Tes moved, quick as he was able to with blankets all around him, and flung the end of the coverlet over his daughter's head, quickly snaring the entirety of her little frame in a mass of sheets and blankets and shrouding her from the world. "Isn't it a bit early for little girls to be out of their beds?" He chided teasingly at the pile of cloth before him.

Adenah squealed as soon as the coverlet consumed her and let out a peel of laughter once her body touched down on the bed. Almost instantly her little limbs attempted to swim through the plethora of blankets, but Adenah found herself trapped! She grunted, trying now to wriggle her way out, but when she discovered that she was well and truly stuck she turned her grinning face to Tes.

"Hung'y, papa!" She chirped, "An' stuck." The little one tried to get closer to him, to pounce on the poor man and smother him with hugs, as per usual, but there was no escape from the evil blankets! It was enough to make the toddler distressed. "Lemme go, lemme go, lemme gooooooo"

"'Hung'y,' 'hung'y.' Of course you are," Tes hummed in amusement as he stared down at his captive. It was early. Too early for little feet to be skittering down the hallway, in his opinion, and too early for demands of food.. But he wasn't so foolish that he thought he had any hope of convincing Adenah of that, and she certainly seemed very awake now. And as squirming as most toddlers were.

He craned forward, peeling back the coverlet as he did, and dropped a quick kiss to the top of her head before the young girl had a chance to escape. "Good morning, little princess." But that was all the greeting he had time for.

Tes slid from his bed, stretched his arms over his head with a loud groan, then ushered his daughter from his bedroom. The morning air of Oba was brisk, a stark contrast to the sweltering day heat, but it was enough to encourage him to a quicker wakefulness and to remind him how warm the stove would be once he was there. "What would you like for breakfast, then?"

Adenah wriggled her toes, looking for something semi-solid to bury them into so she could get in a good pouncing spot. Everything was too soft! They just kept squishing in the blanket, and it frustrated her. If anything it brought a little fire to her bright eyes, sparking just like the name given to Oban nation.

Her hair was ruffled up at some strange angles; an unruly mane nearly, though not quite, as unbeatable as her sister's. When a kissed was placed amidst those scarlet tresses she at first tried squirmed away from it, finding herself trapped, only to perk back up, bouncing a little to steal another before he had moved away completely.

Once freed Ade made a grand show of copying Tes; stretching her arms up over her head, with more of a fake 'groan' than anything, before bounding along in front of him. "Eggs, and meats and fishes and sweet rolls and-" Adenah didn't stop; rather, she continued to rattle on a list of most of the foods she could remember, excited to try as many of them as possible without any real grasp of what her stomach could hold or the practicality of making everything for a single meal.

"Fish for breakfast?" Teslaron prompted quietly as he trailed behind his daughter. It sounded gross, despite the fact that he did enjoy eating fish semi-regularly. He didn't know who had decided what was 'appropriate' to eat at which hours of the day, but somehow fish did not fit into morning time. Maybe it was too oily or too smelly or the preparation process was too lengthy and messy. Either way, "Why don't we settle for eggs and toast. And maybe a little bit of sausage? There will be plenty of time to taste the other things."

As he stepped passed Dris'rynne's room, he cast a quick glance inside. She seemed to still be asleep, but who knew how long she'd been out tending to her business the previous night. Best to let her be for now. Surely both she and Annatha would rise once smells started wafting about.

Besides, one little girl at this hour of morning ought to keep him busy enough. Particularly if she thought she was in the mood for the great variety of foodstuffs she'd listed off. He clipped his bangs behind his head and out of the way, then lit the stove. "If you'd like, you can come to the market with me later and pick out what you'd like to try for dinner tonight," he offered as he settled out the breakfast ingredients on the counter.

Everything and anything sounded great to Adenah. The little one's appetite was nearly endless, stopping only when really spicy foods were brought out. As plucky as she was her little lips would curl as soon as she got a whiff of the zestier cuisine.

"Kay." Little dusky toes scampered into the kitchen space, moving eagerly around everything to touch and poke at as much equipment as possible. All except for the stove; not because of any great sense of self-preservation, but simply because Papa was blocking her way.

"Can we get fish?"
It had been talked about so much that she wanted some! And if she wasn't having any for breakfast, Adenah didn't see why they couldn't just have it later.

Seeing Tes lay out the morning's ingredients, the little one decided she should help. Problem was the counters were awfully high for one so short and no matter how much she stood on her tip toes, even giving in to a few little well intentioned hops, she couldn't quite get there.

"Anything you'd like, Princess," Teslaron hummed as he watched Adenah hop about to try and get a better look at the goings on atop the counter. He wasn't especially accustomed to help in the kitchen, being that he'd never needed it, and the girls were just growing into a curiosity of such things, and he didn't really want her near the stove or cutting anything with the knives...

But he also appreciated her interest in these activities. After a moment's debate, he stepped back to retrieve a chair from the table and set it to his side, away from the flames licking out of the stovetop. "Here you are, darling," Tes cooed as he lifted her from beneath the arms and placed her on the chair. "Be careful not to fall. Don't touch the knives or the fire or anything hot." Not that he expected his warnings would be headed with no other alternative, though.

He collected a ceramic bowl from an overhead cabinet and set it before Adenah, then handed her a whole, uncooked egg. "Do you want to try giving this a crack?"

Adenah made a pleasant little chirping sound and stood proud atop her chair. She grasped the chairs back in chubby little fingers, pressing her tummy as close to it as possible so that she could be close to the counter. The little one pushed a handful of bangs away from her face, exposing the three teeny crystals outlining her eye.

She heard everything he said about not touching this or that or any of this, but honestly, it went in one ear and straight out the other. Instead, she watched his movements greedily and took the egg into her hands. For a moment Adenah simply stared at it, blinking her large crimson eyes before looking back up to him. This hard thing was an egg? But it didn't look at all like an egg! It didn't look yummy at all!

Adenah furrowed her brows and murmured a, "Yeah," before attempting her task. She was supposed to crack the egg....with the bowl....

Grinning broadly, Adenah sat the egg atop the counter. She knew just what to do! As fast as a whip she snatched up the bowl in both hands, lifted it up, and crushed the egg underneath it by applying as much force as possible to the flat bottom of the bowl.

Yep. Looked like he had a little scholar on his hands. Teslaron had made the unfortunate mistake of turning for half an instant to retrieve a towel hanging from one of the cabinet doors, only to turn back and see... this mess. He couldn't be mad, since he hadn't given an especially hearty amount of instruction, but it didn't stop him from being annoyed.

Whether Adenah was just an eager little girl or not, it didn't excuse the fact that anyone with half a mind ought to have known better, unless she really did think she was going to scrape the egg's remains off the countertop (shell and all) and eat it as it was.

Frowning slightly, he took the bowl from her hands and gestured down at the splatter of mess left behind, and it was a mess, looking as though it was hardly more than a smear of yellow and clear goop, interspersed with crispy shell bits. "Now, are you going to eat that, dummy?" He demanded of the girl in front of him. "Because I know I'm sure not, and I wouldn't think to serve it to anyone I actually cared about either." With a huff, he used his collected towel to wipe the bottom of the bowl clean and set in on a clear swatch of counter.

"Cooking is an art. And one you can't rush at that. Next time you set yourself to a task, why don't you spare a moment to think it through before acting and ruining good food."
