Painted Moose Dunno who wants to go next, so GO FORTH, friends. Malila squinted hard at the proceedings happening in the town square around her. Oba was always a lively place, and with its location being such that it was a convenient hub for travelers from any other countries, there was always a healthy variety among the crowds in terms of race. With variety came ideas, and with ideas came... whatever this mess was. She didn't know who exactly had come up with this, or what the purpose for it was, or if it held any significance, but people seemed excited about it.
Lila's pinched gaze roved over stalls bursting with colorful fabrics, glistening accessories, and shining powders that could apparently be applied to skin. And then to the people beyond, dressed in long silk robes with their hair done up nicely, and faces covered in makeup. Everything mostly looked to be heaps of indiscernible, colored blobs, and if it were up to her, she wouldn't be here. The whole thing wasn't exactly her scene, and she wasn't familiar with the practice of making things look so pretty.
But Teslaron had asked her to take the girls to the little festival. They were old enough now to enjoy such things, and Lila wasn't one to keep little ladies from an entire affair designed specifically for little girls.
Still, if they were lost in this crowd of strangers, she'd probably never see them again. She didn't usually condone the idea of putting leashes on people but... Well, there were three of them and only one of her. Anything would've sounded good at this point. Instead, though, she crouched down to their eye level, and cast a beckoning hand to bring the three girls in closer to her. "A'right, let's get a thing straight. You're kids, so I don't trust you anymore than you trust me, and I'm not gonna give you a list of rules that you pro'lly won't follow. Instead, I just got one. If you're going to run off, you at least have to stick together. No one gets lost, and no one gets left behind, got it?"
She sent them each an individual, no-nonsense glower, but Talori's attention was off beyond her mother's head, where a group of older girls were walking with dresses long enough to trail behind them and hair piled so high on their heads that it was almost comical. And fans. She tugged on of her sister's arms and pointed. "We should get one of those!"

Adenah wanted it all.
She drank in the sights of the colorful stalls, overflowing with decorative gems and fabrics as if they were the last bit of water in the desert. At almost every vendor she gazed upon there were a few patrons dressed to impress, and did they ever! As the little group passed by Adenah openly cooed, gawking over a lovely violet dress with avian patterns that had be stitched from pure gold!
"-did you see her? Her dress was sooooo pretty, and look, look at his hair! I didn't know hair could do that!" Adenah wasn't speaking to anyone in particular; just to whoever cared to listen. Occasionally when she would squeal she would reach out to either take the hand of one of her sisters or to tap their shoulders repeatedly - excitably - until they inevitably looked. Very rarely would she reach for Malila, but when Lori or Ani were unavailable Adenah took what she could get.
When they were made to get close, she leaned in, trying to focus, but there was so much more interesting things than whatever Malila was talking about. At least she wasn't trying to get them to follow rules like mama. "Kay! We'll stay together, Lila." That shouldn't be too hard; it wasn't as if Adenah wanted to wander around a bunch of strangers on her own, anyway.
"One of what, Lor- OH OH,I see them, yes! Yes we should!"

They were going to get lost.
Annatha’s brow pinched, lips just barely pursed as her eyes scanned the mulling, glittering and powdered crowd. It was all very pretty, she conceded, and part of her felt the pull of temptation to look and want and fawn like her sisters. But even at her age, she couldn’t help but feel the distinct, overarching weight of feeling: this wasn’t for them—not to do anything but look and fawn over, in any case. It was a show. Look at all the pretty, splendid, beautiful things we have that you don’t have and that you can’t have. Ever.
The world had been immediate in its task of making clear that she and her sister were different and to many extents unwelcome, but it was more than that. She and her sister, like Lori, too, had come from modest beginnings. She liked their apartment on their part of the street up high enough that you could look out in mornings and down on the rest of the way waking up, but her room was small, and they were not ‘important’ people. They were strange and would not be welcome among the most upright classes even if Daddy fit a palace worth of gold under his shirt.
When their caretaker spoke, her attention trained there, listening intently, and when she finished, Ani frowned. “Are you leavin’? We will get lost if you do—where will we find you again?” Mama had more rules to follow than this. Ani was used to more rules, and even if her sister wasn’t enthused by them they were useful if things went wrong and it only seemed more likely that something would go wrong the more excitement and people were involved.
And this certainly involved all of those things.
“I don’t wanna get lost…” Dolled up or not, she didn’t very much trust any of these strangers, and Milila was the closest thing to a force of law among them.

Good. Adenah, at least, seemed as much excited as Talori felt. So that was where she decided to cling, with one arm threaded through the older girl's and her other hand pointing out whatever impressive display happened to catch her eye. Daddy had mentioned some kind of performance. Not to her of course, but to Malila, before sending them all off together. That sounded exciting too, wherever it was. Whatever it was. Hopefully they would make it about in time to see something very entertaining.
But for now, the only things within her immediate line-of-sight were people and wares. There were enough of them to keep her distracted for the time being. "I bet Daddy would get them for us, if he was here," she told Adenah matter-of-factly as she intently watched the women flourishing their gold-and-lace designed fans.
It didn't matter that none of the event was for them. Really, it didn't much look like it was for most people. There were plenty of other young Oban girls scurrying about that looked as though they came from an only slightly higher class and wore only slightly nicer clothes. They looked to be enjoying themselves, and if they were, then Lori felt like she ought to be able to too. Since they'd been told to stick together, she gripped her hand tighter against Ade's and began to set off-
"Wait," Malila hissed stiffly, jerking Lori back by the waistline of her dress. "We aren't tryna get separated," she informed Annatha a bit more softly. "But it could happen. And if it does, we can..." She rose briefly to her full height and glanced around quickly, like some sort of prey animal. Though her vision wasn't the best, she still knew this town square well enough. Lila tucked back down toward the girls. "Over there." She pointed toward a great stone and clay fountain, one of very few in their desert town.
"If we get split up, we can all meet there. You hear me? Adenah, Talori." She snapped her fingers to try and get the distracted girls' attentions. "Do you hear me?"
