Fav. Food: Sweet and savory dishes, pastries, and fruits. All the fruits, please. Also, she loves her some good tea. Hated Food: Anything bitter or overly spicy, and she refuses to try exotic foods (think fried tarantula and the like).
School(s): DCU (major degree in Forensic Sciences, minor degree in Art; currently in the Forensic Sciences graduate program) Job(s): Intern at DC crime lab
Height: 5' 7" Weight: 133 lbs Eyes: Ice blue Hair: Light caramel brown (ombre), long, naturally wavy. Face: Heart-shaped, soft features, clear complexion. Tattoos: 8 in total - 5 for being a Pisces, 2 for her love of animals, 1 for her love life.
Physique:
Lean and well-toned, a slender hourglass on a medium-small frame. Does yoga and trains at a kickboxing gym, a sport she picked up when she started living alone five years ago.
Clothes:
A capsule wardrobe of cute but functional outfits for every season. Each has a selection of pieces that, through various combinations, are actually a decent mix of casual, work-appropriate, and semi-formal outfits. Formal outfits are bought on an as needed basis, then sold or donated soon after to keep her closet as contained as possible. Pieces are rotated out of each wardrobe regularly (usually at the end of each season when all the sales are happening), with the used pieces either being sold or donated depending on the condition.
Hobbies:
Crime TV — This is her favorite of all her pastimes, and as such spends what is likely an unhealthy amount of time in front of her TV screen. Mel enjoys watching crime procedurals (the dramatized stuff) as well as true crime documentaries (the based-on-real-life stuff), and for the latter part spends quite a bit of time researching more about the events and those involved (particularly the criminal). It was her intense interest in these shows that sparked her interest in, and subsequent pursuit of her career of choice.
Drawing — While not her favorite of all her pastimes, Mel does have quite the fondness for drawing. She's been drawing since she was a kid and has always dedicated time to it as she grew. It's as much for fun as it is a coping mechanism when she's feeling down, and she's grown very attached to it and is typically never without a sketchbook and set of pencils whenever she's out and about. She has expanded her skillset to include digital work but still primarily works with more traditional mediums.
Food — Mel loves food, both cooking and eating, and she is constantly eating something throughout the day. She spends a fair amount of time looking up and trying new recipes and feeding her family, friends, classmates, and co-workers. To curb her munchies she preps her own snacks as well as healthy meals for her busier days when she knows she'll fall into the pit of eating whatever she can get at school or at work because she has to stay late. Because of this, she's still relatively healthy despite her crazy eating habits.
Yoga — Another contributing factor to her health is her serious interest in yoga. She invests time as well as money on this, having both a subscription for home sessions as well as a membership at a local studio that she goes to as often as possible, which is basically her weekends and whatever time of day she has free during her school day. Whenever she can't make it to the studio she does her yoga at home. The activity is meditative, calming, and helps her to focus, which helps when school gets incredibly hectic.
Extra Details:
Left-hand dominant, including when she's playing sports. Owns a Vespa, fully intends to find a way to safely secure Lulu as a passenger so they can go on rides together. Is a Hufflepuff at Hogwarts, and a Pukwudgie at Ilvermorny. She's very proud of both (after doing some reading).
Passive Ability:
Quick Charge — Sleeping a minimum of four hours is the equivalent of sleeping for a full eight hours. Like power napping on overdrive, upon waking she feels surprisingly refreshed, recharged, and ready to go. (acquired)Civilian Passive Acquisition - She drinks what looks like water that she finds in the knight's quarters on her wonder.
Inventory:
Empty Golden Vial — The glass appears to be riddled with golden hairline fractures, however is surprisingly whole and perfectly safe to handle. Opal Star Charm — Found during Star Festival 2023. Six-Sided Dice — Two. Found during Halloween 2023 and 2024. Star Charms — Found during Star Festival 2024.
Unlocked — A Mercury Knight's form becomes staticy / glitchy in appearance, as if they were products of the advanced technology that is their planet's pride and joy. This enables them to blend in with their surroundings slightly: opponents have trouble seeing them if they are standing still, and their movements can be difficult to read in close combat. [link]
Weapon:
Page — [Pot Lid] A well-used metal pot lid with a very solid, old-style handle. Squire — [Simple Metal Shield] A metal shield. Feels sturdy enough to actually use a shield. Has a nice design that makes it very obvious that it belongs to a Mercury knight. Knight — [Decorative Metal Shield] A much more intricate shield that is definitely sturdy enough to actually use as a shield. Its design is much fancier, with blades that come out (purely decorative, made of a decorative metal and is not sharp so cannot do any slashing/piercing damage) when she focuses to use the forcefield. It looks undoubtedly like it belongs to a Mercury knight.
Magic:
Page — None!
Squire — Ekström holds her shield out as if using it to defend herself. Upon focusing, a forcefield materializes from her shield and surrounds her and anyone within 10 feet of her. The forcefield is light blue and glitchy in appearance. She has a magic pool of 40 seconds.
For the duration of her casting, the forcefield can either absorb or reflect (which one it does is up to her at the time of casting) all magical effects up to her rank. It can lessen the damage of third stage magic but has no effect on fourth stage magic. Reflected magic is only as strong as basic level magic if it does hit someone (she has no control over the direction the magic is reflected). She cannot reflect third or fourth stage magic.
Individuals are able to touch and/or pass through the forcefield, however enemies that do will feel as though something inside their body is short circuiting, causing mildly sharp pains to run through their entire body. For a few seconds moving becomes a little bit uncomfortable.
Magic is unaffected and unhindered within the forcefield.
Knight — Ekström impales her shield into the ground. Upon focusing, a forcefield materializes from her shield and surrounds her, and at her will it can contract or expand to include anyone up to within 10 feet of her. The forcefield is light blue and glitchy in appearance. She has a magic pool of 50 seconds.
For the duration of her casting, the shield can absorb or reflect (which one it does is up to her at the time of casting) all magical effects up to her rank. It can slightly lessen the damage of fourth stage magic. Reflected magic remains as strong as the magic of the one who cast it if it does hit someone (she has no control over the direction the magic is reflected). She cannot reflect fourth stage magic.
Individuals are able to touch and/or pass through the forcefield, however enemies that do will feel as though something inside their body is short circuiting, causing very sharp pains to run through their entire body. For a few seconds moving becomes difficult but not impossible.
Magic is unaffected and unhindered within the forcefield.
Ekström can withdraw the physical shield from the ground to take it with her to help those within her field of protection, but she still needs to focus in order to maintain the forcefield. Because of this, her help would be very limited. If she is overly jostled it would break her focus, thus the forcefield would de-materialize.
Transcendence — [Power Boost Path] Additional 40 seconds to her Knight Magic.
Summons:
Not acquired
Cosmic Companion:
“Boo” — A very moody but affectionate baby dumbo octopus that is just large enough to fit in the palm of her hand. It has a natural, bioluminescent glow–notably soft and very limited in reach–that it can turn on and off at will. Fondly named “Boo” for its very light coloring and glow, and because of its ability to just show up unannounced (not its fault, of course; it's not like it can talk), usually when Ekström is alone–including when she's at home as a civilian–and least expecting her. (acquired)
Personal Item(s):
Mercurian Data Drive
Physical Description — A small, ceramic device that looked like a carved, white crystal. A blue gemstone in the shape of a Mercury symbol is fixed to the front of it, and it has a metallic fixing to the top, as if it could have been worn on a chain. While it doesn't do anything magical, the data on it is protected by an old enchantment that limits reading of the data to Mercurian devices only, and even then in order to see anything a master password is required. Plugging it in to any other type of device will, at most, open some kind of program window, however that window will be blank. It is also not detectable on any other type of device, whether or not a program window opens, so one cannot navigate to it by any means. Magic — It houses a database compiled by previous Ekström knights. It is extensive, however every single folder name is magically encrypted into a garble of characters, password-protected, and otherwise inaccessible to anyone except to whom the folder is named for (and she has a feeling they're all names because there is a folder with her name on it). The folders are bio-magically encrypted and locked, but prospective owners can reach out to her to request access. (Note: The information can be anything that a previous senshi/knight would be willing to share with a researcher, however any information to be recovered through this USB must be approved before being accessed IC.) (acquired)
Knight's Key and Keycard (Ekström master keys)
Physical Description — A key and keycard attached to a single keyring to ensure they stay together. The key is small, with a flat, circular head and rounded shaft that remains blank (that is, it has no sawtooth pattern) when not in use. It has a metallic finish with a fixing on the head to allow attachment to a keyring. A Mercury symbol is etched into the center of one side of the head, the other side is completely covered with etched-in data lines. The keycard is a thin, metallic card about the size of an ID card. There is a hole punched into one corner to allow attachment to a keyring. A mercury symbol is etched into the center of one side, the other side is completely covered with etched-in data lines. Magic — Both require biometric confirmation of a magical nature on use (focus the same way you would to summon weapon, it recognizes the magic being used; thumb on side with data lines while turning the key or scanning the card). When successful, grants access to every floor and room of wonder. Must be used in tandem to access higher security areas. Only usable by the Ekström knight while in the wonder. (acquired)
Mercurian Digital Journal
Physical Description — A small, hardcover journal about the size of A5 paper(15cm x 21cm). The cover is galaxy print that, when you look closely, is actually moving as though it's a live picture of somewhere out in space. The clasp has a locking mechanism, and also houses a stylus/microphone/camera type accessory. When opened, rather than paper it has two digital interfaces similar to a tablet, connected by some kind of invisible hinge in the middle. Once flattened, it looks seamless. In the middle, at the very top, in all caps it reads, "FOR MEMORY PRESERVATION" in very, very small text. The text seems to change every 30 seconds, cycling through a myriad of other languages before circling back to English. Magic — It's just a digital journal, except it has a very cheeky, pre-installed AI that leaves written commentary on things recorded inside the journal. It can also be conversed with if the user is bored or something like that, though its replies will always be in written form. (Note: The AI cannot communicate any relevant information about her world, nor would it have any real knowledge of anything else without prior plot approval. Barring that, it's just a snarky personality that can be interacted with.) (acquired)
Ekströmian Toolbelt
Physical Description — A modular toolbelt developed specifically for work in various areas inside the Wonder. From repairing sections of the Grid to manual maintenance of the symbols carved in the Circuit, the modularity allows for customizing the belt to ensure there's a place for every tool for any task the Ekström Knight would ever need to do to keep the Wonder up to snuff. Magic — None, unless you consider modularity magical. It is strictly convenience, mainly for when she's on her Wonder. Its most basic form, which is just an assortment of pockets, is the only form that would be really be usable outside her Wonder. (acquisition RP ongoing)
Enhancement(s):
Ekström Tech Whiz — [Passive] Mercurian technology becomes second nature to her, and she becomes very intuitive with finding solutions to the various technological problems on her wonder. Over time, she'll come to learn that it's limited strictly to technology developed by Ekström knights. (acquired) Powered Passive Acquisition - There is a tablet-like device at the entrance to her wonder, and when she touches it for the first time a hand print starts flashing on the screen. When she places her hand on it and focuses, data lines quickly travel from the tablet, down her arm and to her body, completely covering her for a moment before disappearing into the center of her chest. Gravitation — [Enchanted Weapon] Details here. (acquired)
Cheerful — Mel, even on her worst day, has a very bright personality. She's known to be upbeat, lively, and cheerful, and she tries her best not to let things get her down. While obviously that's a virtually impossible feat, she still chooses to look at the brighter side of the spectrum and will never let her mood go completely kaputz just because things aren't working out for her. On the rare occasion that it does happen, she doesn't let herself dwell for too long, and will turn to either yoga or drawing to lift her mood.
Dutiful — Mel has a very strong sense of duty and responsibility, especially to her family. She comes from an average family and had to work hard to earn her scholarships and get herself to where she is now, and now that she's capable of doing more for them, she wants to. Be it sending her younger brother his weekly allowance or sending a little extra for her parents to have some money to spend on themselves, she does what she can to help. Of course, she's still working hard to achieve her own goals, too.
Romantic — Mel is, by nature, a very expressive person. She dotes on her family and close friends and tries to be attentive in all of her relationships, not just romantic ones. She goes out of her way to help, support, cheer up, or simply spend time with those she holds near and dear to her, and will do her best to help should one of them need it. In the more traditional usage of the word, though, she also still believes in "The One" and that he'll come and sweep her off of her feet and she'll be part of a whirlwind romance someday.
Flaws:
Dreamy — Mel has a tendency to get lost in her own world, particularly at the worst of times. While usually not during class because she's actively writing notes or answering questions or participating in discussions, when she's doing just about anything else she will often zone out and start daydreaming. Usually this happens when she or someone close to her is having a dilemma, if not because of birthdays or other such occasions, and she's trying to think of how to help them or what to give them or what to do for them.
Potato — Mel does like to veg, too. With everything that she takes on, even she gets overwhelmed and will want to take a day to just be a potato on her couch. The only problem is this tends to last longer than just a day, often going on for a week or two at a time. When she gets like this she becomes pretty noncommittal, generally avoiding her responsibilities in the name of self-preservation. She loses all sense of ambition and is content to settle for the bare minimum, so can be quite frustrating for those around her.
Timid — Mel takes a just about everything to heart, so if anyone–be it someone close, someone from work or school, or even a customer at her place of employ–tells her off (even if it's gently) she will react very emotionally. She is the grown woman who cries genuine tears over seemingly small things to a more average person. She struggles with being confronted in any way and will usually be the first to submit in such situations, and depending on what it was about it might take her a while to go back to her usual self.

The Condo Unit 502 // 700 sq ft. // floorplan 1 bed, 1 bath // A/C, in-unit laundry, balcony
The condo is one of fifty units within a mid-rise building that manages to capture historic charm with a contemporary twist. Rising about eight stories, the building pays homage to classic brownstone architecture with its rich brick facade, intricate masonry, and graceful cornices. Even with its added height, the structure doesn’t lose its vintage appeal, thanks to a careful preservation of its classic exterior details and stylish, traditional accents. It’s as if the building proudly carries the essence of its historic inspiration while embracing a modern update.
The building itself sits in a lively, historic neighborhood that’s within easy walking distance of DCU. It’s the kind of place where classic charm meets modern convenience, making it a perfect spot for someone who appreciates a bit of both. The streets are lined with mature trees and quaint sidewalks that invite you to take a leisurely stroll, while a variety of charming cafes, unique boutiques, and cultural hotspots add a dash of vibrant energy. The mid-rise building blends seamlessly into this eclectic mix. It stands as a contemporary nod to the classic urban designs of old, with an updated facade that respects the neighborhood’s historic roots but embraces a sleek, modern touch. Recent revitalization efforts have breathed new life into the area, striking a balance between preserving its storied past and integrating the amenities of today. Though the neighborhood is sought-after often due to its proximity to DCU, many also acknowledge it as a dynamic backdrop that offers the best of both worlds—historic appeal and contemporary flair, all wrapped up in a welcoming package.
Unit 502 was originally bought by her older brother, Gabe Antonelli, shortly after Mel first announced that she would be attending DCU. It was perhaps the benefit of being the only daughter to two doting parents, the younger sister to three equally doting and particularly protective older brothers, and the older sister to a still doting and overly attached younger brother, all of whom were happy to pitch in however they could to help make her adjustment to university life on her own in a big, unfamiliar city as smooth as possible. Their contributions were time, money, and effort alike, each doing what they could to make things a little bit easier for her. Ultimately the move was still difficult, but a lot more bearable given that everything about her new space reminded her of them, and she could see their personal touches in the various items she brought with her. Upon graduating from university–and with honors, no less–her family presented her with the deed to the condo.
She has always been free to do what she wanted as far as furnishing and decorating the space was concerned, so by the time the condo was handed over to her she had already created for herself a uniquely personal haven that felt both inviting and distinctly her own.
Her condo is, in her opinion, a perfect blend of cozy charm and stylish practicality. It’s the kind of place that feels both intimate and inviting, every detail a reflection of her personal touch.
The living area is both cozy and functional. She has a soft, neutral-colored sofa with an array of throw pillows, adding a pop of color and texture. In front of the sofa, a minimalist coffee table where she keeps the book she’s currently reading, a scented candle, and a small potted plant for a bit of greenery in an otherwise very neutral space. Opposite the sofa, a large flat-screen TV is set atop a stylish media console that blends seamlessly with the rest of the room. The large windows all around offer an abundance of natural light, and frame picturesque views of the city, its skyline offering a glimpse of the urban landscape that stretches beyond.
Lulu makes her presence felt with a plush dog bed set up at one end of the sofa. A few of her favorite toys are scattered around, adding a lively, homey touch. Mel has a cute but functional feeding station set up for her pup, tucked neatly away but always within reach.
In a corner of the living area, Mel’s small office nook is neatly tucked away. A sleek desk holds a high-end computer (courtesy of her brother, and more powerful than she’ll ever need), its chassis blending effortlessly with the room’s decor. A desk lamp provides focused light for late-night work sessions, while a small potted plant adds another touch of greenery.
Adjacent to the living area is Mel’s dining nook, featuring a small table and two chairs—ideal for her quiet dinners or casual catch-ups. A pendant light hangs overhead, casting a warm, inviting glow that makes the spot perfect for shared meals or moments of reflection.
The kitchen is thoughtfully designed, sporting modern appliances, clean countertops, and open shelving that showcases a carefully chosen array of kitchen essentials, all of which make the space feel both functional and personal. A small breakfast bar with three stools stands ready for her morning coffee or quick snacks.
A discreet laundry area is concealed behind a door in the hallway, with a washer and dryer combo stacked neatly within.
The bedroom is a serene retreat, featuring a bed dressed in soft linens and a collection of plushies and plush pillows alike. Bedside tables hold lamps and personal items, while framed photographs above the bed add a personal touch. The gentle glow of the bedside lamps casts a warm light across the room that envelops the space in a sense of peace and tranquility.
The bathroom is a cozy retreat, featuring soft, neutral tiles and a stylish built-in vanity adorned with carefully curated toiletries and decorative accents. A tub/shower combination adds functionality, while warm lighting fixtures create a welcoming glow throughout the space. Thoughtful details, like plush towels and a cozy bath mat, ensure the area is both practical and inviting for everyday use.
The condo’s small balcony, accessible through sliding glass doors in the living room, is Mel’s private oasis. Furnished with a cozy bistro set and surrounded by lush potted plants, it’s a tranquil retreat where Mel and Lulu often relax after long, hard days. String lights provide a warm, ambient glow as evening falls, enhancing the space’s peaceful atmosphere. A soft outdoor rug, plush cushions, and a throw blanket make it a comfortable spot to unwind and enjoy the city view.
Every corner of Mel’s condo is thoughtfully designed, from the framed photos and carefully selected decor to the practical layout and Lulu’s cozy nook, and feels like a true extension of Mel’s life and personality.
