Normally when Targovishte went out, she focused...tonight? Tonight she had headphones in and was dancing as she made her way across rooftops. It wasn’t even a dignified song, it was one from one of the kids' movies that would play, but…it was catchy.
Just because she was dancing didn’t mean she wasn’t watching out for…well. Maybe not watching out for…but making sure to feel for any auras…it would be…stupid bad luck for her to not notice a youma or an agent or anything else…unsavory in the night…but.
Thankfully. The only aura she felt was another Squire, and…after a moment’s thought, she leapt down from the building she was on and landed right in front of the blue clad blond woman. “Ta-da!”
Targovishte said…just a bit loudly and then removed the earbuds from her ears, slipping them into subspace along with her ipod. “Hey! I’m Targovishte, nice to meet you!”
Her hand extended and it was only now that she worried that the other woman might not be friendly.
…There had to be grumpy people on her side of the war too, right?

Some nights were just meant for relaxing, and tonight felt like one of those nights for Ekstrom. She’d already spent most of the day relaxing, though, so in an effort to at least be a little bit productive she decided she could just take a leisurely patrol.
Emphasis on leisurely.
She’d taken to the city streets as opposed to one of the parks for once, and it was a decision she didn’t regret. She quickly came upon an aura of another Squire, and considering the streets around her were empty she could only assume they were on the rooftops. With a playful little smile she followed their path down on the streets, admittedly curious who exactly was up there but staying firmly planted on the ground. They could probably feel her aura as well, and she was more curious which of the two of them would give in first.
The answer came just moments after she had the thought.
Ekstrom beamed at the Jupiter squire and gave a little applause at the “ta-da” before taking her offered hand. “Ekstrom, and right back at you! Bonus points for sticking the landing.”
She grinned then, and glanced up at the roofs of the buildings beside them. “See anything interesting while you were up there? It’s been quiet down here since I started my patrol.”

Well good, at least the girl seemed friendly and appreciated the scatterbrain that Targovishte was. “Nope! Not a thing tonight, not that I’m complaining at all, I’d rather have a boring night where I can just dance, rather than one where I have to fight. Or worse yet, one that I find myself needing to fight. Like, I know it’s my job to protect people and myself and all that…but I’d rather tussle because I want to not because I’ll die if I don’t…you know?”
She summoned her staff and waved it slightly, the pink windsock billowing slightly. “I mean. It’s not like I’m equipped with anything that’s going to save my life if it ever really comes to that…it’ll do some. I can bonk with the best of them, let me tell you…but…”
With a sigh, Targovishte shook her head. “Alas! But, it is wonderful to meet you, Ekstrom! Tell me a little about yourself, if you so desire?”

Ekstrom bobbled her head in total agreement about wanting to fight because of her duty versus needing to fight for her life. Granted, most of the latter type started because of the former, at least by her experience, but all the same! If only all fights could be against the simpler youma as opposed to the far more complicated Chaos folks running around.
Turning her attention to the weapon that Targovishte summoned, she took in its details with a curious little smile. While she’d never been not curious about other knights before, she’d also never actively sought them out either. After recent run-ins, she found that that was quickly changing.
“I’m still trying to get a grasp of my own weapon,” she said, summoning her shield as well, in the spirit of sharing. “I mean, it’s a great shield so it could probably save me in a pinch, but beyond that…” The Squire gave a sheepish laugh. “Well, time’ll tell, I guess? Who knows, if we’re granted more power yours could turn into a neat staff and mine could be…a bigger shield?”
She outright laughed at that. She liked the idea of her weapon becoming something more useful in a fight beyond just shielding her, but she also knew it would require more effort on her part to actually learn how to use it in that way. And she was more than willing; it was just a matter of time and, admittedly, probably a bit more dedication. “Hopefully by then I’ll have a better handle on how to use it in a fight.”
Ekstrom gestured toward the path she’d been walking and took a step forward, hoping Targovishte didn’t mind walking and talking. “Mm…a little about me, though? Let’s see…” Ekstrom pulled on a thoughtful expression, wondering where to start. She wasn’t shy or secretive about anything as far as her knight life was concerned, so there was a lot to pick from. “Mmm…well. To cover bases, my full title is Ekstrom Squire of Merucry. I’ve been at it for a little over a year now? I’m pretty regular with the patrols and visiting my wonder.” She paused there and sighed.
“A year in and I haven’t made much progress there, to be honest, but I’m still trying to figure it out.” Turning to Targovishte, she went on to ask, “How’s yours coming along, if you don’t mind me asking?”

“Hey, honestly though a shield could absolutely save your life. These assholes out there have swords and things and I for one think that’s rude and uncalled for but…” Targovishte gave a sigh and shrugged. “What can we do except try our best, I guess.”
She nodded as Esktrom let her know which planet she was a Knight of, and looked a little eager. “Never met a Mercury Knight before, honestly, I keep seeming to meet up with other Knights of Jupiter, not that I’m complaining…but…you go to your Wonder a lot? What’s it like? I…”
Suddenly, Targovishte felt a little…uneasy. Not…shy…but…not happy with her own progress.
“I’ve been to my friend Belmont’s wonder a lot of times, and helped him fix it up…mine’s like, across a big ravine from his and I thought it was just…like this super big ruin and kind of avoided it? But…it’s…got this underground part to it that I need to explore a bit more…I only just found it recently though so…Wonder things…I’m very much lacking in.”

Belmont being a mutual friend was a pleasant surprise, though it didn’t seem quite the right time to go on about how she knew him as well. Not when the conversation on their wonders seemed to turn both of them a bit…not sour, really, but not happy either. With a sympathetic smile, Ekstrom reached over and pulled her fellow Squire into a little side hug in what was hopefully a comforting hug. She was never one to hesitate when it came time to comfort a friend–granted they’d just met, but they were allies in this war and that had to count for something!
Maybe.
Hopefully.
“It all feels really…specific for everyone,” Ekstrom said with a little sigh. “How to make your wonder better. Liveable, maybe, even? I bet everybody’s progress looks completely different, and over the past year the only pressure I’ve had on me to fix mine is pressure I put there myself. I think it’s important to take your time to feel it out at the start. Mine was…” she paused, not quite liking the word that came to mind but unable to find one that fit better.
“Rushed, kind of? So I had a lot of momentum going in and then it majorly slowed down a couple months later. Progress has been slow since, but I’m trying. It is starting to get frustrating, but…”
Another sigh. “Well, progress aside, I still love talking about it! It’s a giant research facility, currently with no power so it’s just a giant ice box-puzzle sorta place. Lot of fun to wander around, but there’s basically no light and I can’t open a lot of the doors yet so I have to bring my own lights and food and hand warmers.” She smirked at that, hoping to bring Targovishte's spirits back up to where they'd been when she first hopped down from a nearby rooftop.

Targovishte gave a smile and returned the hug and chuckled, feeling warm.
“Yeah, it really is…it’s…I highly doubt that it would ever be liveable but…there was like…It was almost like a cricket. It made such a nice sound.” It was…a good sound. And honestly, it made her hopeful that…maybe she could do something and clean things up but…
“I want to hear about it! That sounds…honestly amazing! If you ever want company, I’d be happy to stock up on hand warmers and flashlights! I’m pretty good at snooping around and finding things!”
Not really, but…it sounded good!

She was glad to see the smile, and eventually did let her new friend go in favor of not overheating. It was still summer, after all.
“You have bugs on your wonder?” Ekstrom honed in on that little detail. It sounded amazing, to hear your wonder coming back to some semblance of life. Even if it would never be a fully liveable space anymore, restoring it to become a comfortable safe haven could still be a goal.
It certainly was one of hers, at least. It sounded Targovishte felt similarly about hers.
“I’m not a fan of bugs but even I’d be happy about something like that.” Certain bugs she could tolerate, but she imagined the kinds of bugs that could possibly be on her wonder were the types that she couldn’t. Spiders, for one, and probably roaches. She briefly wondered if bug spray and traps would work on alien bugs…
“Sure, I’d love to show you! And hey, if you ever need extra hands to help out with anything on your wonder, let me know. As for hearing about it…” Ekstrom grinned, a glimmer of excitement shining in her light blue eyes. She loved talking about her wonder, after all.
“What do you wanna know?”
