After her initial freak out, Leona did make it to the rendezvous point at the right time, and even managed to decide that she should bring something, and had a reusable tote bag from one of the local grocery stores complete with a bottle of apple juice and a cheesecake that had looked too good to resist, as well as some paper plates, cups and utensils.
Arriving before Ekstrom, Leona hesitated and sat down on a bench, waiting.
What if it had been a joke after all? What if the Squire wasn’t actually going to show up? What if she was just here making a fool of herself?
Chewing her lip, Leona tried to banish these thoughts and pulled some candy out of subspace, popping three round pieces into her mouth and sighing as she began to enjoy them.
Candy was soothing. She had used a new cherry flavoring in this one and it was…
Well. It was really good.
Now…if only the Squire would show up…and then she could stop worrying. Unless like, she was left at this Wonder…but that…
She didn’t think her…friend? Was like that…

When she started gathering the usual things for restocking the essentials she often brought with her on her Wonder visits, Mel had unfortunately lost track of time a little bit. It wasn’t usually a concern, but this time around she had invited someone to come along with her! So. By the time she noticed, she was still only three-quarters of the way done with packing and basically didn’t have enough time to make it to the meeting place at the time she had asked Leona to be there.
She quickly shoved as much as she could into her subspace and whatever was left into her usual backpack, gave Lulu a kiss goodbye and promised to be back in just a little bit, then headed out.
Powering up along the way, she unfortunately didn’t have the convenience of teleportation like Chaos folks seemed to have, so she went as fast as she could, pausing along the way to send a quick three letters–”omw”–to Leona.
“Sorry, sorry!” she called from a distance as soon as she thought she was within earshot of the senshi, looking terribly apologetic. “Lost track of time. I sprinted. Did you wait long?”
Backdating to 9/27/24.

The magical letter hit Leona in the face and she jumped, reaching up and opening it, half expecting either a glitter bomb, or a rude drawing or just a nasty note with laughter but…no.
It was like getting a text message, and Leona gave a small smile, slipping the note into subspace and looking around, a bit more eager now. And when she heard the Squire’s voice, she stood up and nodded. “No worries! I wasn’t waiting long, I’m just glad you’re here! I got your note. Ah. Both of them. You were right! They do just…come like magic. It’s kind of wild!”
And frightening, and like. Crazy but. Wasn’t all of this crazy when you thought about it? Of course it was.
“I’m ready when you are! I’m excited and I brought apple juice…and uh. Cheesecake. For food.”

Ekstrom came to a sudden stop just nearby Leona, panting slightly but otherwise looking perfectly…well. She was a little pink from the running, and looked a little bit winded, but she looked fine. Besides, whatever heat she felt now would be dispelled almost as soon as they got to her Wonder.
“Right?” she laughed at the comment about the notes. It was…archaic, almost, but it did the job so she wasn’t going to complain about it. “Oh, I brought some food, too! And plenty of water. Sounds like we’re set.” And with that, she extended her hand.
Once Leona took it, she gave her a warning to hold tight and to brace for the cold, then closed her eyes to focus as she recited the pledge in her mind.
The cold gripped her before she knew it, and it was only then that Ekstrom opened her eyes. The room was, as it always was when she ported anywhere except her quarters, pitch black. She let go of Leona's hand and pulled her two portable lights from subspace and set them in such a way that most of the space around them was visible.
“Sorry,” she said as she set the lights down, “I don’t always get to pick where I first ‘land’ when I come here. I can find a way to my quarters when I’m alone, but with a guest I don’t think I can get to where I need to go to do that. I usually map out whatever room I wind up in though, if I haven’t already, and then head back. I hope you don’t mind just taking a look around here?”
The Squire gave her a sheepish little smile at that, though whether or not she could see it was questionable given the limited lighting. From what they could now see, though, it was very obvious to Ekstrom where they might have been. Along three walls there were metal squares, different sizes on each wall, and all the squares had a thin, vertical sort of grid along the right side. Desks lined the remaining wall, and in the center of the room there were five metal tables that were attached almost seamlessly to the floor. It smelled…metallic, but in a way that sent a chill down Ekstrom’s spine.
“We’re uh…we’re probably in a morgue of some kind,” she said slowly. It didn’t make for the greatest introduction to her Wonder, she had to admit, and she stepped toward the senshi and apologized again, a small frown settling on her face. “Sorry. Uh, if it’s not your thing we can just go?”

The first thing that Leona noticed….was that it was cold. She had been warned about it and automatically reached into subspace pulling out a teal blanket with different breakfast foods on it and wrapped it around her shoulders. It wasn’t…something she would normally wear out, so she had figured it was better to use a blanket rather than a jacket or hoodie that might give away just who she was.
She was interested, and looked around, though paused and stiffened at the word morgue.
Slowly, very slowly, Leona turned to look at Ekstrom and frowned slightly. “...Why…did you make a morgue?”
Her mind was beginning to scream at her. That this was a long con. A trick. And now she was going to be killed and left here to freeze and be experimented on.
Still, she didn’t say any of this, but the growing panic in her expression was… Quite easy to read.

She honestly did feel bad that she had no control over where they showed up, and that of all the times to drop her in the morgue it would be while she brought a guest. It likely would be better in the future, once the power was all back and the doors could actually be opened so they could leave a room whenever they wanted, but for now…
“It’s a research facility, so they might have had…yeah, for research purposes of some kind.”
The Squire glanced around, her personal curiosity about the space currently at bay out of concern for her guest, and hoped to see an alternative sort of exit, to maybe get them into an adjacent room. When she saw none, she nodded at the door in the distance.
“Sorry,” she said again, her frown deepening. “Without power, the doors aren’t an option. So if you’re not into looking around this room, we’ll have to try again on another visit.”

Another visit…did that mean she wasn’t going to be left here? Or…was that a veiled threat? Leona swallowed and forced a smile. “I just…You don’t…design the place? It just…came like this?”
She didn’t really understand. This wasn’t like the realms, so the Knights had no real say in what they were going to put where? She…had heard when Ekstrom had explained it…but she supposed that she hadn’t understood...and that…That was kind of a big deal.
“Yeah I’m not…really kosher with this room, I keep like. Thinking you’re going to shove me in a box to do some experiments with…do you…wanna just go eat the cheesecake back in the city and pretend we never came to the morgue?”
The laugh that escaped was bordering on hysterical, and she didn’t like the feeling she was having either.
Good lord. She was such a fraidy cat! But…to be fair…
This was worth it.
