Star Pox (10) : Genetically modified fruits aren’t exactly new but every now and then something seems to be going on with them. This year, it’s star fruit. The entire batch from Destiny City’s largest supplier has a strange side effect; a few minutes after eating one, star-shaped ‘freckles’ will begin to cover the skin. While this has been colloquially dubbed’ star pox’, it appears to be a harmless allergic reaction. The freckles fade after a few hours and pose no actual health risks; they’ve become quite popular across social media. This might be your only chance to experience the strange trend! …Unless sales are good enough to bring them back.

Her sense of duty ultimately made her roll off the sofa and eventually make it out for her nightly patrol. She had every intention to make it short and sweet, and was hoping the route she opted for tonight that took her a bit toward the outskirts of the city wouldn’t be on anyone else’s radar. The less people that saw in her current state, the better.
The freckles weren’t all that bad, actually. They weren’t particularly dark, however they were largely concentrated on her face and, given her normally clear complexion, it was just…different enough to be off-putting. She was currently seated on a park bench, staring at her face on the front-facing camera on her phone, her expression of complete exasperation.
“The articles all said hours. It’s been hours!” she cried at no one in particular, though she did feel a blip of an aura nearby just then. It shut her up quickly, and she turned her head in its general direction. It felt friendly, she thought, so she got up and made her way over, only pausing to pick up a little charm along the way. It was a small but pretty thing, and it lifted her mood just a tiny bit.

Odainsaker had a couple of starfruit in her hand as she hummed walking towards the park. She loved this time of year when the kiwi and starfruits were plenty. Odain was planning on making a fruit salad later but for now she was planning on where to sit and munch on her spoils from her adventure.
She felt the blip and headed to meet whoever it was, maybe they'd want some fruit too? The squire hummed as she walked, and soon enough she saw the outline of another, "Hello~" She called as she seemed fairly excited.
"How're you this lovely evening?" She asked when finally getting close enough. Though she hadn't eaten the fruit she had in hand just yet, she'd heard about the curious side effects and maybe, that was why she was even more excited to make a fruit salad with them.

”Evening! I am… star-freckled but otherwise fine,” came her response, a lopsided but well-meaning smile on her face. It always did good things for her mood when she met another powered person on these patrols, particularly if they seemed to be pleasant company. Or at the very least were polite.
She nearly went on with the casual pleasantries when she saw the starfruit the other was holding, and her eyes widened.
“If that’s what I think it is, I would advise that you don’t eat it. All the websites said hours but I’ve been stuck with mine for what feels like way too long.” Ekstrom moved in a bit closer so as to let her see just how badly she’d been freckled by this year’s batch of starfruit.
“I mean, it has been hours but it still feels like way longer than it should be based on what I’ve read.”

Odainsaker looked curiously at the other when they said they were star-freckled but good. There was a large grin and a pause when the other started talking about it lasted hours so far and it was suppose to already be gone.
"OHH that's so awesome, it really will work for my cosplay then!" Odain seemed even more excited over the prospect of the fruit giving star freckles. She was looking at the fruit she had enough too that should help her keep the for the day.
"There's suppose to be a group meet up later from what I hear that's like a whole cosplay convention to watch the meteor shower." She was beaming as she actually cleaned off one of the fruits and decided to take a bite, once she finished, "I was wanting to do something magical. Either a space witch theme or a fairy I haven't decided. But this'll help complete the look and I won't have to use makeup for everything!"
Odain paused, "Oh by the way I'm Odainsaker, Squire of Cosmos!" She had realized they'd skipped the introductions and though she didn't mind she figured she'd introduce herself, at least she'd know who she was talking to next time they ran into each other.

The other knight’s excitement surprised her, and she sort of looked on in quiet awe as she explained what she intended to do with the fruit. Frankly, she had to give it up to anyone who could consider star-shaped freckles something of any benefit. She couldn’t relate, but then she wasn’t one for cosplay or, really, costumes. Her knight uniform was already a bit of a stretch for her, but she did think she pulled it off rather nicely.
In any case, Odainsaker’s beaming expression was contagious, and Ekstrom couldn’t help but cheer up at least a little bit about her situation.
“Ekstrom, Page of Mercury,” she returned the greeting with a brighter smile of her own. “It's not my usual scene, but that actually sounds like fun. If it’s an open invite kinda thing, I’d probably go to see what everyone else is wearing, plus the meteor shower.” Looking over her new acquaintance, she considered a moment before adding, “As for costume, if you don't mind my two cents, what about going as a cosmic fairy?”

Odain was cleaning one of the fruit using a bit of her sleeve so she could bite down into the fruit. After all, she did have enough of them so it wasn't a problem to go ahead and eat one of the fruits.
When she finished the bite she beamed again, "Nice to meet you Ekstrom!" She said as she seemed to consider the theme cosmic fairy. She nodded excited, "Yes, yes I think cosmic fairy would work really well! And yes of course you can come! I'd love to have someone join me, and we always love new friends."
She seemed to consider what the page said about it not being her normal scene, "If you want to dress up it doesn't have to be anything crazy it can just be something spacey or starry themed. Since it is the star festival that's what everyone decided on. Or you could come dressed as you normally would because there's people that do that too. Which if the starry freckles last long enough those would count too."
She pulled out a piece of paper and a pen from her subspace and wrote down where the meeting would be at for Ekstrom before she forgot. "Want to help me pick out some accessories for the cosmic fairy outfit?"

”Ditto,” she replied, surprised (and glad) to meet someone who seemed to match her energy. It was probably the reason she was able to cheer up as quickly as she did about these freckles. She still didn’t like them, and the idea of still having them while attending some kind of public gathering wasn’t one that she enjoyed, but she was more than happy to be supportive of a new acquaintance.
Besides, it really did sound like a good time, the way she was talking about it.
She considered Odain’s words and took the paper once it was offered, briefly looking it over before putting it away in her own subspace. “Thanks for the invite, I'll definitely be there! I should have at least one space-looking thing in my closet.” She’d have to do a bit of digging, maybe, but that wouldn’t be too much of a problem.
“And I can try? I know I just suggested it, but before the whole ‘cosmic’ part did you have anything in mind for a fairy costume?”

Odain grinned brightly, "Ah I have an idea for a base, it's a fairly typical white dress base that's ombre purple from about the knee down. I've used it for a few different things, and I can accessorize it however. I also have a black dress that's just solid black I typically throw some tulle over it if I want to spice it up."
She seemed to think, "I do have some different types of starry material I could make it a little fancier and give it a petticoat."
She looked thoughtful and then when Ekstorm said she could try Odain grinned, "Alright! I know a good store! Lets goooo~!" She dismissed her fruit that she hadn't bitten into, into the subspace. She was still snacking on the other fruit.
"I think you'll like this place if you haven't been there!" She nodded, "I'll pick a base dress based on the accessories that we find I think." The squire mused as she walked with her new friend to the store she knew it had gothic accessories but also had a lot of celestial stuff.

Ekstrom listened to the other enthusiastically share her potential plans for her costume for this upcoming gathering with a big, bright smile on her face. It was a small joy to be around someone who was happily sharing their interests, and it helped to push her concerns about her star-freckles off to the wayside.
The prospect of a new store like this excited her, too, though. It was always good to have new sources of material for the various gifts and things she liked to give people at random.
“Lead the way!” she said as she followed along. Something occurred to her, though, and she asked, “So do we just walk in like this or power down first?” She, for one, had never really been around other civilians as her knight self, and it seemed…well, honestly, kind of neat. But was it advisable, was more her concern.

Odainsaker took no time in leading the way when asked, she was excited to have someone new to talk to. She froze though when Ekstorm asked if they should power down and she started chuckling "Ohhhhh. . . Right we don't need to attract the negaverse to the store."
She thought, "Lets get there first there's an ally nearby that should be safe to power down." She nodded.

It actually didn’t totally occur to her that they might attract that kind of unwanted attention, and she’d feel horrible if a shop owner got their store ruined because of something she contributed to. At worst she was thinking the store owners would find them weird or accuse them of being the terrorists always being talked about on the news or something.
All the same, now that it was cleared up Ekstrom laughed lightly and followed after her new friend. She was feeling much better than she had at the start of their encounter, and in fact had already forgotten about her star-freckled woes.

Odain was use to being the weird one in the store, that wasn't anything new. She'd just waltz in, in her current state if it wasn't for the negaverse and ill-gotten attention for having an aura.
She smiled as they headed off it wouldn't take long she was sure to find what was necessary.
