Under Construction (11) : Construction in Destiny City is a constant; it is never surprising to see buildings come and go. However, almost overnight it seems as though a large project has suddenly come to life. Where there was once an abandoned strip mall and a sad, trash laden park, the ground has now been completely bulldozed. There’s no information about this project available in any media outlets or online, and all attempts to research it result in dead ends. A large fence has been put up, but twelve feet of wire isn’t enough to keep out anyone curious enough to investigate. Cameras are set up all over the place and there is a strange, almost magical energy. The space is large enough to be a theme park. Strangely, frosted glass stars in an array of colors can be found randomly across the lot. Someone obviously has big plans for this space–already, some strange, fantastical buildings are going up. The space feels strangely large, and once you have jumped the fence it feels like Destiny City is a world away. The sky seems brighter and the city lights seem far away, almost as though there is some strange barrier separating the construction zone and the rest of the city. And, oddly enough, if you are standing outside the fence and looking into the construction zone, everything appears blurry and it's hard to make out the details. It’s strange, for sure–but nothing seems wrong about it. Yet. This place was too big.
That was the major thought currently simmering in her mind as she looked on from just within the fence line of the construction site. She passed it earlier that day on her way to grab some food, and something about it just bugged her. Perhaps in the past year of being around magical things and events, she’d developed some weird sense for these things. She had a very strong feeling that there were plenty of others in the city that felt the same, too, so she half expected to run into someone else while she did her own investigation.
Ekstrom glanced around the construction site, squinting as these thoughts ran through her mind. She was preoccupied enough that she didn’t notice an Order signature just nearby. Hell, she was too preoccupied to notice her faithful wispy sidekick showed up for a few minutes before disappearing very quickly afterwards because she hadn't acknowledged it. Glancing from the construction site to Destiny City and back again, the page continued to try to figure out why it felt so off.
“It feels too far!” she eventually cried out, eyes still squinting despite the revelation. It wasn't a satisfying enough eureka moment, possibly because even though she had a feeling she couldn't actually prove that that's why she had such a weird feeling about this place.
“I can’t be that far from the city!”

Since Coco appeared to be a cat, a calico cat at that she was able to easily climb the fence and just walk around the construction site as she pleased, since no one would question a cat in a strange place. She saw someone on the other side of the fence as it grew darker. She wasn't a chaos guardian cat, so she most likely wouldn't encourage them to do something naughty but hey maybe she would. Sneaking into stuff wasn't an order or chaos thing after all. Everyone got curious about stuff. People loved sneaking into stuff to learn about things.

With all her glancing about, trying to figure out this weird, apparently spatial puzzle that was the distance between the construction site and DC, Ekstrom finally noticed the cat. She did a bit of a double take–it was honestly a wonder her neck hadn’t started to protest yet–but when her eyes landed on the calico it immediately eased her.
Not that she had totally forgotten about the strange feeling she got from the construction site, but this was a very happy, welcome distraction from that.
“Lookit you! What a cutie!” she crooned as she made her way over to it.

Coco noticed she was dealing with a senshi but she at the point just decided she was going to roll onto her back and play the part of a normal cat, and then she got bored and started to laugh. 'You know you could just go get a closer look at the building, I bet it would be easy to do even for a humanoid." She said getting up and turning so the senshi could see that she had a star on her head. "I'm Coco." She liked taking in the little joys in life. Playing up being a cat was one of those things for Coco.

Ekstrom happily petted the cat until it started talking. Shock and awe felt like a bit of an understatement considering the way her eyebrows nearly disappeared into her hairline. Focusing a little more, though, she saw the star and realized that the cat did, indeed, have an energy signature. The page beamed with delight and, now that she was past being surprised, she scooted a bit closer.
“I’ve heard about the cats before but this is the first time I’ve actually met one,” she said. "That's so cool! I’m Ekstrom, a page of Mercury. Nice to meet you. And I know, I was thinking about it but got distracted.”
Ekstrom looked up, eyebrows scrunched together again as she looked between the site and DC in the far off distance.
“This place just feels so off, but I can’t figure out why. To you, too, right? Isn’t that why you came to check it out?”

Coco smiled "Nice to meet you." She looked "Yes it is very strange on this side of the fence and the city seems really really far away on this side of the fence.. Also there are these weird frosted glass stars all over the place.. I'm not sure what this place is going to be for but I bet it will be something really big." She said to the knight. "I don't think this is a normal space, but I suppose none of the places where buildings have magically popped up were normal spaces, but this one seems less normal than even those." She climbed back over the fence out of the strange area. "I'm really not sure what to make of this place right now." She said shrugging her little shoulders. "I bet you could go look for yourself if you like, I don't know if you'll get caught but seeing things can be fun." She said with a giggle. "Ah page eh, so you haven't been a knight for very long huh, that's cool." She said warmly Coco liked knights they were a neat faction and she had worked with some of the knights before.

It was reassuring to hear that it really wasn’t just her, and Coco made a fair point about all things magical in the city. There was always something about them that attracted the attention of magical folk, probably because they all had a sense for it to some degree. But even Coco gave way to the idea that this place seemed a bit extra, so to speak.
At mention of the frosted stars Ekstrom glanced around again and started to take note of them, too. By the time she rounded back to Coco, she had to fight to keep from shuddering at the thought of what any of it could all lead to.
“I kinda wanna look,” she admitted, then looked up again for a moment before biting her lip nervously and turning her eyes back to the cat. She wondered if Coco might be interested in joining her. Considering she was already standing on the other side of the fence, maybe not. Still, it might have been worth an ask.
“Any chance you’re interested in coming with me? I do wanna take a closer look, but it might not be a good idea go in alone, after all.”

Coco smiled "Sure I'll stay with you, don't worry about it, and there is no telling what this place actually is so, it might be safer for us to explore it together just in case." She said nodding and waited for the knight to come over to take a look at the weird place. She didn't think it was a good idea for them to stay long. Since they really didn't know what the deal with this place was. Perhaps they really were being transported far away from the city once they entered the bounds of this place.

The page beamed. “Awesome, thank you!” she said, and once they were on the same side of the fence again she led the way toward the building nearest to them. In that small amount of time she had already imagined coming across something new or interesting or peculiar, or maybe something to explain why something felt so weird about this place that would satisfy her curiosity.
Unfortunately for her, when she tried to open the door…it was actually locked. Ekstrom blinked, somehow surprised even though it was probably common knowledge that the doors would be locked to the finished buildings in the middle of a construction site, then turned to Coco looking absolutely crestfallen.
“Or maybe not,” she said with a disappointed little frown.

Coco followed the knight and then looked up when they were disappointed that the door wouldn't open and she sighed. "Perhaps it is time to go home, maybe there will be no answers today?" She suggested.

The page looked regrettably at the door for a long moment, but no matter how long she stared she knew the door wasn’t going to just magically open. She eventually sighed and, at Coco’s words, she bobbed her head in a defeated nod.
“Seems like it. Maybe next time. Thanks for sticking with me, though!” Ekstrom offered the guardian cat a genuine, albeit small, smile before nodding in the direction of Destiny City.
"Did you want a lift back to the city, or are you good on your own?"

Coco shook her head "No I think I'll be alright, thank you though." She really didn't have a home and she liked to explore so she was fine finding her way back to the city slowly.

"Alright, if you're sure. Hopefully we'll see each other around, then!"
With that, Ekstrom waved the cat goodbye and headed for home. She was over the fence in no time at all, and she noticed that Destiny City felt just a normal distance away now. She glanced back at the construction site, again drawn by the mystery of that off feeling that it gave her, but ultimately sticking to her guns.
There was always next time. Maybe not while it was still a construction site, but even after it was all fully built she had a feeling that "off" feeling about the space wouldn't go away.
