Info
Capricorn
Name: Raolvar
Race: Ice
Gender: Male
3 Base Traits:
Contemplative - He is a quiet thinker, he can often be found in quiet, and profoundly beautiful areas, thinking about the universe and all it contains and the best way to cook dinner. He is particularly quiet during solar celebrations; the equinoxes and solstices. They are part of his own family's brand of religion/spirituality. He usually prays for hours on those days.

Calculating- Because he thinks so much, he has gotten rather good at assessing situations and calculating the outcomes of hunts and fish catching. His family never use nets, only lines and hooks. That was the symbol of their clan; a rod, line and hook.

Feral - Due to his isolation, he is not that good with social cues. People tend to label him as a wildling due to this and his overall barbaric appearance. His people are nomads who do their own thing. That is all he has ever known. He may come off as rude or abrupt, he just doesn't see the need forthat much talking.

Personality:

He can also be quite stubborn, when he feels it is the right path he is very difficult to pursuade differently. Good luck! He is chivalrous and will help out ladies if they need it or ask for it. His tribe traveled in rough areas sometimes and it was common courtesy to aid those who needed it. In usual daily duties he prefers to be quiet, he doesn't mind if people talk to him just don't expect alot in return. He says what he has to say in as few words as possible. He may one day grow out of this.

History: Rao has spent his whole life with his tribe of wandering iceling nomads. They were kinda small about fifteen people total including kids and grandparents. Some were newish families and others had been there since time immemorial. His mother and he were probably the closest out of the lot. Then his father was second in line. They were pretty tight knit. He had known nothing of the world except where they traveled the same trails over and over across Zena.

This was how it was, trading with other towns, listening half heartedly to the goings on of the other tribes of tendaji but never leaving Zena itself. Until the day came where he was separated from his family. He was not old enough to survive Zena on his own so he was forced south looking for his family and trying to organize enough supplies to go back. He was so afraid for them. It had been a bloody night, sometimes this happened when they crossed with another tribe that took unkindly to sharing resources of the best places. But nothing had happened like this before. He had only patchy memories of the night, a bleeding aunt, he hoped she survived, had shoo'ed him off down the trail, he had been trying to get to his parents but his Aunt had convinced him to run. He was awesome at hiding, but he would have traded it for being a warrior at that point. He would rather had died than loose his family.

He made his way south to Sauti, his parents would know that he could not survive in their lifestyle alone and he would go south. It was always a last resort but expected. Sauti was only nice once he got to the bottom and at that point he was rather curious to see the ocean. However the old map at home failed to mention the cliffs,so he had around about trip through Tale, Jauhar, and Oba before he delved into Matori finally but at least travel through the other areas wasn't as difficult as what he was used to, barring the occasional wildlife that caused diversions. Matori was impossibly hot and full of a melange of people that he mostly avoided except when he was hungry. It was beautiful though and he had faith that he would adjust to the weather eventually, so he was told. If not he would go a bit further north until the weather was more agreeable. For now hes doing basic labor to get by. Once he was older he would travel back to Zena and look for his family but for now he waits for them.

Every night as he watches the stars dance across the sky, he weeps mostly silently. For the people that were left behind... He doesn't know the fate of any of them. Even his injured aunt was strong enough to survive her wound. Though he didnt' get a very good look at it.

For right now he mostly avoids everyone because he is still heavily greiving. But he thinks the aishans look kind of cool and the matorian people were interesting too. Such a rainbow of tendajians. There were also these tall water people walking around and sticking out of the crowd. He had sooo many questions and no one to ask.

His family decided to become nomads because supplies had to get through in emergencies. The founder of their tribe was originally a trader who specialized in rough weather. When to move and when to stay still and camp. Where the best places were in a storm. They had a natural talent and eventually, they made a family of it. Thus the tribe was born.

Familiar = Xerius - Radaku- Black with smokey blue spots, bought off of Thallassa
Zorna - Snaptrotter - Royal blue, yellow tiger stripes, white eyes, missing tail tip.

Raol was enjoying the stalk through the bush. He was hunting a wild antelope that had gotten loose from a meat convoy most likely. More win for him. There was something ancient about the dance he entered with his target, something that rang true to a spirit that seemed to live deep within his bone marrow. The air smelled sweet and sharp, alive with the subtle hints of the forest. It was tinged with the smell of a forthcoming rain. It would be better to make the kill after it had rained for a bit to hide his scent, but he might loose the trackway and then where would he be? Hungry for another night that was what. He had left his radaku back at camp for fear the pungent smell of the predator would carry hint of the chase that was to come to their prey.

He crept slowly up to a likely looking clearing where the trail he was following seemed to meld with the grass. He picked a rather large tree with a rather large diameter and slid slowly to the padded ground at its feet. He controlled his breathing and had entered a state of perfect zen by the time he peeked slowly around the tree, lower than he would have been if he were standing in the hopes of staying unseen by his quarry.

There was something about hunting that just came natural to him as trying to be a merchant never had. There was too much bartering and talking and empty words. He was made harder for wilder things than the cushy desk life of a merchant caculating how much the next begrudging trip would make. The journey was the fun part, it was the only place where the mind and body melded seemlesly to its wild surroundings.

He was born to be a ranger.

Class Quest

Inevitably at some point on his journey, he found himself in need of additional coin then what he had brought. Travelling was expensive business. He cruised around the nearest town until he found a board delineating job opportunities. Looked like the local herbalist wanted a rare plant found. Seemed simple enough. He followed the information on the board and arrived at an apothecary.

He accepted the job to find the plant and set off. He was doing this in his own time, Rista had said she wanted to shop that day anyway. Besides he wouldn't be gone all that long.

It turned out to be a pretty vast area where the plant could be found and he felt like it may or may not take as much time as he thought. Oh well, the only way he would find out would be to try. It needed to be someone with his skills. His bushcraft was top notch. He brought out the sketch of the plant and felt like it resembled something he had seen before out by the cliffs. He headed off in that general direction, looking for the distinct red berries.

A mist had rolled in and the hair on his arms rose. The air was completely silent. Something scary was hunting here. He held on to his hunter's knife and pressed his back against a tree. His heart was racing and his breath was coming fast. He thought he could see a shadow off in the distance. He was mildly concerned he was going to pee his pants if this moment got any more intense. He couldn't remember being this afraid, not even on the night he lost his family. He stared out and something bumped his arm, he shreiked and stabbed downward, a squeal and hiss rent the night and whatever it was retreated. He wasn't sure his heart was ever going to climb back down his throat. No doubt this was why the plant was bloody rare. They could have mentioned this in the want add. He was only a prentice after all. He took his bow down from his back, he couldn't wait to get a proper one but this servicable small hunting bow would do for now. He felt better with the weapon in his hand. At least he could see now if there was a threat.

He got to the cliffs and handily found the plant. He travelled swiftly back through the area that had been a problem for him on the way in. He sighed with relief after he was back in town, he gave the man an earful and the plant and earned a mighty tip for his trouble. He supposed it had been worth it then and he had proved that he could trust himself in times of extreme danger. He would likely never know what the beast had been, he had just gotten the impression it had some really big teeth. Ick.

He hoped the plant was worth it because he would not be going back into those woods any time soon.

Blurb:
Raolvar got to experience true fear, it is not until that point that a person's metal can truly be tested. A ranger is often out alone or in the middle of a stressful battle situation with foot soldiers racing to close the distance before you can get a proper shot off. He had to pass the stress test and to his delight he did. Though he didn't sleep well for three days after.

Birth Solo

It had finally come upon them the time of the birth, she had woken him that morning and they had rushed off to the healer. He was now waiting outside the birthing hut in a rickety, old wooden chair, listening to the noises that accompanied birth and wincing now and again at the loud bits and very colorful curses. There was no one to wait with him. They had done a fair job of concealing her pregnancy for the most part. Those that new were likely still a bed. It was an antsy early morning, if anything was to be said. He wasn't exactly the most relaxed guy on any given day, nevermind the day his life changed forever in the most irreversible way.

His past flashed before his eyes, like in a play, he saw his family his desolation, years of searching, settling in Matori for a bit, and then wandering for years. He had wandered, wandered to find himself but only when he had met a haggard adult Kechiri, two years ago had he truly found home. No matter where she was, she was it for him. He recalled the past few days fondly at least for him. Kechiri had become very round and he smiled as he remembered all of the complaining that had gone on the past few weeks. Having a baby was a marathon. You started out fast and energetic, then it seemed as it grew, the baby gained more magic over their mother and took over such things as what food they wanted. Raol had supported her in every way possible.

This was the very renewal of his family line and he couldn't wait to see and hold his new child and he prayed for an easy labor. According to the midwife first babies can be hard and like this one a bit late and a bit large. He stood up unable to remain still any more, moving seemed to help him in some sort of kinetic way. He paced back and forth around the neighborhood. He never got too far that he couldn't be called over if anything changed but as it was, birth seemed to take a rather long time. It was almost as if his precious pirate queen was wrestling with the very gods themselves to bring their first child into the world. He hoped this whole experience wouldn't put them off having more children. Though after nine months of somewhat relaxed waiting this happened be quite a bit of stimulation for him.

He wished as his feet pounded the ground that he could be in the birthing room his own people are wondering tribe were allowed if the woman allowed it, but it was not traditional in their village. Plus their healer was an ancient old woman whom Kechiri had absolutely insisted on having as her birthing woman. Raol would have someone who was perhaps a bit less rickety and looked about to fall apart not delivering new life into the village. He took a deep breath and continued to pace and pace, as if by pacing he might help his love somehow, despite never having given birth before she went into it bravely. If anything she had nearly panicked when her contractions started. Though he had still been quite young, when his family had been scattered, and he had lost access to the miracle life when he had been cut off from his family and their wandering traditions. Those traditions at least he had retained.

It seemed that the only time he was not super antsy was when he had found criteria and they had spent the recent two years back in the bush and their waterfall glen and their time on their secret mini island that was home to so many strapped totter that they had started to call it snap product Island. A part of him wished they had been able to give birth to their baby on their island but as it was their first and as he was no midwife they had chosen to give birth on the mainland just in case something had gone wrong on the island. Well, they had been at increased risk if they could not help in time. Plus it had made them both feel better to have an experienced birth healer present. He still hated that he had absolutely zero control over his current circumstances if he knew his woman and he did , she was like as not all impressed with that either. The pair of them were control freaks and that showed growth. They both freely admitted it, of course their life was not free of danger. Despite precautions they had put swiftly into place the moment they decided to move this sort of direction with their relationship.

Kechiri had somewhat of a famous face in certain unsavory circles and indeed in the village by the ranch. They would have to bite the double edged blade and spend some time at the ranch while Kechiri healed from giving birth she would have to lean on her family he was all for it. There was no safer place and ultimate Tory so far as he was concerned and as close to a place to his permanent home as could be. He was convinced they were doing the right thing that Ireland is unknown to all is it was was vulnerable in that it was all in the sea itself and it was on the sea were their enemies. There were no truth that's their family on shore. Besides home waters had hired pirate protection to boot the very job which had given the great captain Kechi her notoriety to begin with, keeping the fishing fleet and thus the shoreline safe from the regular array of marauders that you got the moment you had open water.

It just made him feel better that they could take their new baby home to someplace they both considered to be usual very safe. And old voice called him and he froze before running back to the hut to hear the words of the birthing woman. "It is very close now," she told him sharply, "Don't wander far." She disappeared back into the dark hut. Raol worked very hard not to look after the woman wistfully. The door would have been slam shut in his face anyway, which was why he had not tried. He happened to have no small amount of sense contrary to what that old bat seemed to believe. Why so cranky anyway, it was not the love of her life laid out on the birthing bed producing the squalling crying miracle Wait, if he heard that didn't that mean? Yes. His child had come forth into the world and that also meant that his Kechiri should be through the roughest part now he hoped. After a moment the door opened and a small bundle was thrust into his arms.

"A son My lord, congratulations."

Finally the woman had smiled at him he stood now to stun to care their son his son was perfect, because seemingly the lad with a spitting image of his mother except that instead of Kashmiris watersports, the boy had the very dark blue crystals in the same spot himself.

"Well, you definitely fit in my son."

He held the bundle tenderly, swaying slowly back and forth just looking in wonder at the teeny perfect hands and the great yellow eyes. He thought they might be his eyes. Though he and Kechi had eyes a very similar ice yellow color. So he could not be sure.

" You look very much like your mother and grandfather and indeed great grandfather."

They would have be very careful until the threat to Kechi lessened. There would be no mistaking whose kids this was. That was for sure. But this was a worry for another day was informed that she was doing well and was given a few more precious moments holding his very new son before they took the baby back so Kechiri could feed him.

Solo
A storm had broke out over the island during the evening, after his son and wife had went to bed. The wind howled mournfully and loud against the sides of the house, Kechiri snored right along with it. She had just come back from her job on the mainland, he smiled, it was always better when she was home. He placed a feather bookmark in his novel and placed it by the chair. First, he checked on his son and then he checked on Kechi, both were doing fine and quite asleep.

He however was made of much lighter stuff, like critters he was always watchful and usually a light sleeper. He looked out the window at the stable, there were other light sleepers on the property and this might be their first big storm. He put on his big rain slicker with oiled fabric that bounced water off like a duck's hide, and set out for the barn, screen door flapping madly in the wind that pulled at his hair and the length of his coat and cloak. It felt a touch like swimming upstream but he slid the barn door open and tucked himself inside. He turned and after closing the door leaned upon it, before looking into the deep gloom of the interior. Multiple sets of eyes shone at him with various levels of alarm from the depths. The younger beasts quite a bit more disturbed at the loud noises emitted from the heavens the older beasts significantly less so but warry nonetheless, the snaptrotters by contrast were not at all concerned and he let them out to go play in the puddles as they always liked. Janarim were less exuberant about water in any form that didn't come in the shape of a trough.

He let the youngsters simmer down to his presence by giving the older janarim a pet, he was the one blessed with watching over the renegades of his kind and looked unamused at this point in the evening.

"Were they making a ruckus then old boy? Too much for someone military trained I see." He chucked and gave Kechiri's steely gray mount a chunk of meat as a treat for his patience.

"Out you go if you want, I have them for now." He gave the critter the offer of a stormy night off. It wouldn't due to have two rambunctious nearly teenage janarim break down their humble but sturdy barn.

He put halters on the male and female that his son had chosen and had chosen him. They were good little beasts for the most part, behaving on the regular most admirably with his son and he sensed that his presence too calmed them down in lieu of their slumbering best friend.

Once he had a line on the pair he took them out into the little round pen to walk for a bit out in the storm as it was in a milder patch, likely soon to get rougher but he wanted to show the two of them that it wasn't even the end of the world to be outside in such a thing. Of course before he did this he made sure the lightning was far off. No need to scare the whits from them this young. But slowly, he could break them in.

He brought them back inside, the pen was a safe place for them and they knew that now but they also preferred the overhang of the barn. Roal rationalized that they might have gullies or sandstone caves in the oban desert and maybe it was more instinctual. Or they were just that domestic already, they did have a good lean too at the Ninyelt ranch and before that he expected that they had been in the birthing barn. So usually they had had an option to have something overhead.

He fed them both treats while they exhibited calm behaviours and then he took them for a short walk on the property boundary fence hoping to wear off a bit more energy before he snuck them into the house and let them into Vhallas's bedroom after cleaning their feet off. They sniffed at their young master and then arranged themselves in his room, he placed spare blankets around them both and they settled down quiet as you please. His last minute, slap dash plan had worked woundrously. He stayed there with them through the worst of the storm before sneaking back to his own bed.

In the morning the boy was still fast asleep, arm around one of the janarim that had snuck onto the bed and was taking up most of it.

"Back to the barn for your morning constitutional I think but you two were very very good over night, extra treats today I think." He returned them to the barn and headed inside to start breakfast.

Overall he thought it had been a good experiment, having his kids bedroom still in one piece after the sleep over was an added bonus and had not at all been guaranteed but from the start these two animals had shown a special affinity for his son and where calm reasoning beasts under all the youth and inexperience, nothing less than he would expect from the cream of the crop from the ranch. They would have a good genetic base now if they wanted to breed their own critters of either species, it might be a good side hustle for him while the kid grew.

Solo
All of the excitement of his son getting new pets had quite reminded him of his young snaptrotter female that he and Kechi had caught in their little patch of heaven. It seemed like a long time ago, but it actually wasn’t. He had just been preparing for and then being a Dad. It was time he started to do more with the female. He had asked Kechi for a copy of her families’ snaptrotter studbook which she had gotten from her Uncle Thal. Snaptrotters being his specialty.

Raol had spent the last few nights reading it. There were a few prospective bulls that he thought might just fit the bill if and when he decided to breed her to them. She had given them a fine litter, earlier sired by the bull that had followed the female out of the bush and had then been tamed by Kechiri, Radaghast she had named him.

This time however Raol wanted to try a different bull when she cycled again. With quality blood lines and top notch training the offspring ought to bring quite a bit at market, or at least so he figured. He did have some time to wait so he did ground work with the lady trotter. Slowly breaking her to ride in a slow and natural method. Kechi proved him with both an excellent coach and very good training tips on getting his desired results , sometimes quicker than he had thought possible.
Today found him in the round pen just watching his beast move and thoroughly enjoying both the day, the time well spent and seeing the bits of progress he was slowly starting to make with her.

He supposed most things just took a bit of work to get them going and beast taming seemed to be little different, mostly coming down to translation issues because his snapper was certainly willing enough she just didn’t always know what exactly it was that he wanted her to do.

Solo
It was planting season on the island so he had gone to the fresh spring market on the mainland to get supplies seedlings and seeds for the gardening season ahead. It looked like they were going to continue being a tight family unit and with Kechiri home often Raolvar had a bit of freedom to diversify how they made coin. He was looking at janarim and snaptrotter breeding in small high quality batches with the beasts they had now for the moment. Females could always be wild covered and collected before they laid their eggs, thus insuring robust genetics at least for the snaptrotter as there were many on this tiny island.

That and he thought a market garden might be a good idea. He wanted to introduce his son to gardening because it would help him care better for the people and animals in his life and it was a fun hobby that literally grew food, what was better than that? Well besides hunting but Vhallas often went hunting with his parents.

He had a cart loaded down with fresh soil, old manure, a few pots a hand rake, a trowel, three pairs of gardening gloves, one large, one medium and one somewhat smaller for Vhal.

Then he had a flat or two of seedlings, various potted seedlings of a flat spring type squash that were good for stuffing and an odd shape that might hold the distracted interest of his son. He had a few larger squash, three of them that would be good for keeping over the stormy season post harvest, plus he liked them when they were roasted.

A dozen tomatoes and peppers rounded out his potted gathering. Plus the fact that his pockets were overflowing with seed packets for beans, peas and an assortment of fiery orange flowers inspired by his wifes pyrotecnic personality.

He had hired a quhar to pull the cart back to the boat. It was a great haul, purchases made from the hybrid that lived on the ranch and the water man with the leaf wife as well. It was a very green magic space on this part of Matori where many colorful and wonderful things were grown.

He changed his mind and went back and bought two melons. There that would be a substantial garden to keep him busy during the coming growing season. He couldn't wait to get all of these babies into the ground already. His eyes had nearly crossed at the barrage of information that had been thrown at him from the eager gardeners eager to share the magic of their gardens with him. No doubt they would in turn take the coin and put at least some of it to buying more plants. Once the green bug bit you it seemed to spiral out of control. Nearly forgetting he picked up a few flats of eggs for Kechiri who happened to be in a baking phase and in need of the binding properties of the protien and fat filled rounds to compliment the consistancy of her baking endeavors.

He was pleased to go to market days for he got whatever urge to talk to strangers right out of his system at the end of the day and could run on home to the quiet, secluded island, small but enough for their purposes and his budding family.

Who knew maybe Kechiri would oblige him someday soon with more offspring. Vhallas asked about it enough that it might just be about time to do something about it, before their kids would be too far apart in age. Vhallas might not be as interested at that point. Now that would be a shame.
