They had gone on quite a few dates now. The first had been a bit awkward but went well, they both had to sort of ease into dating again, but once the initial shock of actually having a date, (a proper one), wore off she rather found that she really liked dating, at least with him. He was always courtious and occassionally she saw flashing of an intriguing fire in his eyes. This was well she had forgotten exactly which date they were on but she felt it appropriate now to raise the heat and difficulty.
They were on board her ship, the fishing fleet loosely about them, she had sent all of her crew onto the other ships so that she and Raol might have some special date time together. The crew was well used to this by now. Ushiruin was on patrol now so the waters were still quite safe otherwise she would never let the Gyrfalcon just sit like this.
"Do you dance Raolvar? Rangers are supposed to be light on their feet."

"I know the dances handed down by my people for centuries, if you learned from the iceling side of your family I have no doubt they are the same or similar quite beat dances to keep the blood flowing and the spirits high during long winter, they also strengthen the legs for chasing game, which is handy for a hunter." He winked at her playfully, full knowing that he was about to be dragged into a fast dance with her.
It felt like he already could here the music playing, he stood from where he was casually leaning against the thick rail of her proud ship. He struck the initial pose that preceeded the classic rhythmic dance and tapped the toe of a foot in clear, bold invitation. They had worn off the awkwardness between them and their hermity selves and it was a relaxed and natural feeling that coursed through his veins, he would put on a good show for her. It was not uncommon for local village dances to start proper romances where he was from and he wanted her. Had from the night she appeared at his fire like a shadow wraith, spitting mad at the pirates but able to reveal her inner self that he felt few had ever seen.

Before long they were tapping out the fast rythym on the ship, her one regret was that they lacked the music for the most spectacular dance of her life. So few people of the sea knew or cared about the dance of the north, the one designed to keep the blood flowing inside in contrast to the long cold outside. It kept them fit and happy and ready for the rush of hunting in spring to refill larders. For her it kept her in fighting trip, reminded her to move her feet while working the sword and made her one of the more lightfooted bladelings which gave her a distinct edge in battle. Designed for smaller spaces it made use of what space there was and was ideal for the deck of the sloop.
She had rarely felt so alive and a huge grin split her face as she got to enjoy this poignant moment with Raolvar.
They seemed to glide across the deck in step both masters of the dance and able to do each other justice with the speed and precision required to do this dance right. And this was the first time, what results might they have with proper practice together. Her heart felt like it was soaring.

He had always known that she was spirited but even he had not anticipated this degree of commitment to the ancient dance of their people. The dance was designed to quickly tire those unworthy yet of seeing it through to completion and yet they carried on and on. Both smiling brightly at the exertion and the joy of finding a dancer worthy of each other for once. He had never had the opportunity to dance it with someone else and he found he was hugely enjoying himself.
As the long dance finally ended, they were breathing hard but also more than a little exhilarated.
"That was arguably the best dance I have ever had." He said puffing still from the exertion. "thank you, I had wondered if I would ever perform it with someone or not." THey proceeded to spend a wonderful day on the ship together. She had even prepared them a special meal from the ships small galley. Simple though it was it was deliscious and he had always found the food tested better when eaten outside. Almost as if fresh air was a spice all on its own. It had certianly well seasoned his life so far. At least with this particular female he would never have to worry about being locked indoors all of the time. Solid walls still felt too enclosed, too concrete to him still. The more time he spent with her, the better things got. He started to realize why the romance before with others had failed. They simply hadn't been the right one. He was glad that fate had rewarded him ow and justly.

Timeskip....
The next date was his initiative and she looked forward to the surprise. They were not all surprises but it was certainly fun when they were. She felt a certain lightness in her heart when she was around him. It was a heady, addictive feeling and she often found herself crowding the rail, while sailing into port in her excitement to get to him. the last stint had only been two sevendays but it had felt much longer. She wanted some solid time with him now. She had sent a messenger bird to her brother informing him of her land sabatical. He would look after the fishing fleets in her absense. The crew that wanted to work could be split among the fishing ships if they wanted more coin and she would be quite free to explore the ...love she felt blooming in her heart. Love as it turned out was quite different from the lust she had felt with everyone else up until now. It had started with a small warm pink bud of emotions in her chest. She had noticed her thoughts returning to him and their interactions more and more in her idle time. even while she was working occasionally which was most unusual. This developed into a suffusion of warmth, maddening tingling of the skin at his touch and initially a most frustrating habit of blushing. The ship finally docked and secured she scurried down the gang plank. Their plan had been to head right into a date upon homecoming so she had spruced herself up while still on board least she make a less than presentable appearance. She was clean tidy and ready for whatever he had in mind. Finally she spotted him and raced into his arms.

He caught her up in his arms and held her close, the days spent waiting for her return had only been sweet with anticipation, otherwise they had been quite gray and colorless. He felt that next time he must go with her and spare himself the torture of bleakness.
"Are you ready, Oh beautiful lady of the sea? I find I have grown rather tired of sedate city dates, gather up your pets and let us be off. Her mounts trailed sedately behind their mistress, abreast of each other. They looked no worse for wear after their long stint at sea, they were no doubt eager to stretch their legs a bit and would probably argue over who got to carry their mistress.
Raol held Xerius' reins lightly in one hand, the radaku grinned and bumped Kechiri's hand for pets, much to the unnamusement of the other two animals who obviously resented the extra competition.
It was time to deepen their bond with some proper quality time and plenty of it without interferrence or interruption from the outside world. The pair moved off at a swift walk until they could get out of the gods accursed town and into the bush. The wind playfully tugged at his hair, egging him onward, as ever, as always.

An inquisitive fire lit in her eyes.
"Oh, I'm game."
The sail had been long and stuffy. She patted all the critters, but finally chose to hop up on the janarim. He had a pleasing gait and was well trained to the nines for war, so she felt safe. It had been quite a while since the pirate attack and yet sometimes it felt like only yesterday. That was something she would simply have to work through. She felt good around Raolvar and her family and that was about it.
She remained jumpy and sharp with the crew brooking no arguments, but still being a fair captain. There was a thing called therapy that weak minded( in her opinion, at least,) people went to help them with problems that they couldn't deal with on their own. She didn't think she needed to go yet. She just needed to sharpen herself and kick the butt of any threats that came near her. Then she might feel like she again had control of her situation. She smiled at Raol, she had yet to decide on a proper nickname for him yet. She tapped her heels gently to the janarim's sides and the big beast also eager to be on land, followed close behind his radaku's heels. The fresh inland air was sweet and easy on the lung. She stretched her back as she rode and despite jumping at the occasional thug like shadow she was enjoying herself. She let the stress and cares of command fall away from her mind and body, the easy rocking of her mounts' footsteps, and they put her at ease finally.

He sensed a change in her as they moved off and he smiled at the trail ahead. This was going to be a good time. It must be very hard to be at sea for a long time with her kind of responsibilities. He sought to give her mind some freedom and her heart some gladness. The road was long, but he knew the way into the heart of their Matori island, where but few people roamed hither and yon, traders perhaps herbalists and rangers like himself and her father, few others tended to stray from the sweet coastal cities and the villages of fertile and beautiful Matori. How unlike his original homeland, this place was perhaps Her Highness would deign to visit Zena one day. For now, though, he was happy to stay here It was his biome as much as any other he could name. It certainly had its perks. His radaku who moved lightly over the land, the much heavier footfalls of the janarim and snaptrotter following after in an interesting multi species procession. Not for the first time did he wonder what had made her choose him over all the others. Though with those attractive yellow eyes of hers, he felt like it likely that she had simply looked into his soul and liked what she saw there. This and perhaps his looks combined with him not being afraid of her, as many others seem to be. He was far from threatening, he knew who he was and had long ago accepted it. The trail wound ever onward, and he followed specific markers recognized from past visits, though some were a bit grown over now. Finally after a very long ride even for him, they approached an opening and running water could be heard roaring nearby. "Go ahead," he told her. It is quite safe. He leaned back holding the radaku and letting her pass.

She narrowed her eyes at him but curiosity got the better of her and she went through the screen of vines and entered a beautiful clearing. Off to the left with majestic waterfall, feeding a pool and a stream spray rose from the base and added to the ambiance of the place. She inhaled deeply. "It is so beautiful, however did you find it?"
They had travelled through dense areas where even she would have gotten lost at one point. The rest of the clearing was bright and spacious, full of green grass and flowers. She squeezed her legs around her mouth and asked him to go forward. He obliged her lowering his head to sniff at the flowers.
Not for the first time Undine wondered how herbivores did it. Green stuff always smelled squashy and soulless, steak on the other hand was always a good time. He snorted at Riptide, his competition and his brother from another species, and communicated that it was alright and they were safe enough. Riptide who was tired, hot and grumpy, scuttled into the stream for cooldown, a breather and some nice fish for his reptilian self. Kechi slid off Undine and gestured for him to find his own enjoyment. Excellent! Undine rushed to the grass and rolled all the sweat from the climb up off. flailing his legs with utter glee like a small cub. He would go hunting momentarily he trusted his mistress two legged friend could hunt for her with his claw launcher stick and string thing. And they were effective but not so much a worry for his kind with all their armor. Kechiri walked out and inspecting everything before going back to Raol.

"I found it quite by accident really. We were out doing some deep wandering and exploring and well just sort of stumbled upon it. Of course since then we have come back a time or two." He got off the radaku and took his saddle off. The critter rolled and walked just deep into the water for a drink. He had a very pleased look on his face as he lapped at the cool water he liked this place. Other two legs really came here but many critters enjoyed it shade, clear water and fruitful fishing, which meant rich hunting for him and his scaly companions. Real gave her a tour of the place before laying down a blanket for a picnic lunch. Food was always good after a long trek a beast back. Fruit, cheese, nuts, salami and a loaf of simple bread were laid out for them. He waited until she had taken her first plateful before he took some of his own. They ate hungrily and then sat back. A light wind blew past them ruffling his hair and bringing with it the scent of flowers. This was a wondrous place and he was very happy that he got to share it with her. She had slowly infiltrated the place that had been left she filled it with her rare lack of frequent smiles gentle touch, fiery spirit and indomitable personality. She was truly a rare gem when one got to know her and if she led let down the shields. She had told him that she had them since her sister was stolen. They probably served her well on the ship as Captain they kept her emotions hidden unless her temper flared. He had a temper too but it was as cold as ice compared to hers. "So what do you want to do now? I brought fishing rods if that tickles your fancy."

"Ooh I am always open to fishing, I wouldn't be very good see folk if I disliked it would I? She grinned and lunged for one of the rods. Already she was calculating about which bait to use. It depended on the murky water or clear what kind of bugs were about as well as what sort of fish they were after. Back here in the clear cool stream would most likely be trout. She put a piece of sharp cheese on her hook and dangled in front of her face for inspection. "Biggest fish gets a kiss," she grinned sharkily at him. She headed for the stream above where the happy snap Trotter was cooling off if she went below him there would be no fish. Even had they rarely seen one fish seem to know a snaptrotter as a predator until they stopped moving. She shook her head and cast accurately. This had taken much practice, the line went out into the water before curling herself up to wait for the fight that was surely to come when something hungrily came to inspect her bait. The fish would be hungry out here it likely wouldn't take long and in the meantime she could enjoy her other favorite hobby Var watching. She grinned what a great day. He was rather clever with his dates

"You're on!" It was a very suitable prize. He grabbed the other rod and chose a fly lure as his fishy fishery weapon of choice. he strolled over to the stream a bit higher up the watercourse thing she was he was going to try a different tactic entirely. He was banking on the fish being eager little hunters, kind of like them and each of the mounts they had brought with them where the secret to fly fishing with convincing movement he waded out just a bit the water was cold and inviting. Then he began to cast the fly out in long practiced motions fishing in this way had filled his belly more often than he could count. And it was a solid way to spend time in the wilds, a slight wind blew so he changed the flow of his cast to get the lure again where he wanted to go. He looked back and smiled at could cheery as predicted he found her heated predatory eyes watching him. He wiggled his hips slightly at her. That ought to start some fierce competition he had never felt like this with anyone else. Finally he had someone interested in him just for him. She herself was very beautiful and interesting. He would certainly never get bored. Then to she had willingly come all this way out into the wilderness with him not another soul within sniffing range. This far out his heart swelled with love and adoration for this wild and beautiful creature as wild and untameable as the ocean she adored, and yet possessing of a rich heart and fierce loyalty. He felt his own heart squeezed at the thought he knew in that very moment that he had found the right woman for him. And this time there would be no going back. Fate was sealed.

She had not been expecting such a saucey gesture from him. Her mouth dropped open a bit. A fire started in her eyes, and she was hit with a lust so strong that she could barely breathe for a moment. And sat on the shore fairly panting. Nope, nope, nope. He would not go to her into leaving her post here and losing the competition by default. Though, if she crushed them both into the water it would not. It would be a moot point. She tilted her head the thought did hold some merit. She bet he looked just as good soaking wet with all that long, attractive blue hair that remained. Mine did her have her father's hair before the darn trees had changed it to the same shade as her mother's and her own. Real var was one of the most handsome men she had ever seen. He was clean, cut, respectful, playful and intelligent combination that she was unable to resist after spending far too many moons away from decent men at sea. She would rather make eyes at a bloody barnacle at some point than consider any of the men on her crew. Fortunately, now she did not have to fake love a crustacean. She had a ranger all of her own though. He was quite knowledgeable about the natural world around them and she was eager to open his heart up like a treasure chest and examine the contents inside her own heart filled with love and she was startled at the bright golden emotion worth more to her and to him than any earthly treasure. A fish took her bait just than a walk or two and she was distracted from the wiggling ours to fight her own fishy battle. He would be winning that bet. In the end he didn't catch anything she assumed because he was too busy baiting her. She stuck her finger under the gill flap and held up the hefty price which had curled its tail to one side in unhappiness. "I believe my love that you owe me a victory kiss," she grinned evily.

"I believe I do." He strode out of the water. There was little chance of him catching a fish equal to her monster catch. He liked prizes like this very much as they both won. He waited for her to knock out and set aside her catch before he promptly took her lips and they carried on with the following pleasant activities in what might definitely be the best day of his life. Such spontaneousness. And all from a little hip wiggle and a won fishing contest.
Both of them rose dishelveled and hungry again, some hours later. He did her the honor of cooking up her fish using a special blend of spices gathered from all over tendaji.
It was fire roasted to perfection. While they had otherwise been engaged, the animals had hunted successfully and they were treated to the gory sight of the janarim dragging the carcass into the clearing so that the animals could feast. They looked awfully pround. Riptide kept tugging on one half of the carcass much to the janarim's annoyance but snaptrotters were not chewers they tended to just rip a carcass apart and swallow large chunks.
"Well this is entertainment."
He turned to her. "I have something for you." He took out a precut and polished sapphire that he had found not far from here and handed it to her.

It was a perfectly cut and polish stone that he so easily handed over. No one in her life had ever just surrendered such a spectacular treasure.
"It is so beautiful." She stroked the main smooth face with gentle reverence. "I must admit I don't know what to say except thank you and I accept." The stone the worth a fair fortune on its own and she was flattered that he thought so very high of her. Emotions rose sharply through her flickering one after another. Usually she was tightly controlled or quite drunk or in a rage. There was always very little actual femininity. In her life. So to be able to drink mug for mug with her crew, and to also be treated as a lady by her mate. Something shifted in her heart. She had already loved him, but he was proving over and over again, just how good of a man who was someone worthy of her of standing beside her of father and her children. For a while there, she didn't think she would be able to have children. No one in her life had been strong enough to handle her unique situation. But so far this ridiculous beautiful male had passed with flying colors. She held the stone in her hand and gave him a huge hug. Tears may or may not have leapt out of her eyes.
