Raolvar 1

Raolvar sighed and poked idly at his campfire. He supposed that Matori was a good place to settle for a while. He was so tired of searching, he may never find his family. A flick in the sky caught his attention. What was that? He tilted his head and stared at the area that had concerned him. The flicker did not come again. He chocked it up to restless sky spirits.

The gods knew there were more unexplained mysteries out there than any one could imagine. He tried not to dwell on the more devastating mysteries. Why disasters happened, the combination of events leading up to them. It was easier to deal with the things you could change. Life was hard enough.

Umen 1

Umen had been out hunting small game this fine New Years Night. He could hear the promise of a crackling fire and was curious to see who else had ventured so far into the Matorian tropical jungle which bordered his small town. His town was small, not normally large enough to even appear on most maps. He sensed there was a far traveler, or at the very least someone who enjoyed the same bush wacking tendancies that he did.

He crept up along the tree line before showing himself to the iceling sitting at the fire.

"Sorry there, but would you mind if I shared your fire? I will share some of my loot?" He held up his game helpfully. Enough for a feast for two.

Raolvar 2

Raolvar was ashamed to say that he started when a watertribe man stepped out of the bushes like he had coalesced from vapor. He had thought that his adventure had sharpened him but perhaps the depression that had set in since he had decided to settle here had clouded his senses. He had so much to do. He had to find a good place to live. Find something to do to make money, so many things.

"WOAH!" He coughed. "I er um, fine. Its fine." He was hungry what could he say?

Umen 2

"Thanks, much obliged." Umen set about cleaning his kills. A glint in the sky caught his attention at one point when he was taking a break.

"Huh, a blessing. Perhaps it was more than simple good fortune that we met tonight." He took signs from nature very seriously. Tradition, superstition, storiy, myth, legend, and song were all componants of his family education told to the younglings at the earliest of ages sometimes when they were still in the womb so that this information would be available to them should they ever need to fight monsters.

Raolvar 3

Raolvar watched the other suspiciously.

"Indeed?" He was tired and cranky and not one for reading between the lines after the sun had gone down. However as he looked up at the meteors falling he figured the other just may have a point.

He exhaled loudly. The man had done nothing to him. It was just he was not used to being interupted this far from well..anything.

"Perhaps you are right."

He had had the roughest of years. It was time for some good omens in his lofty opinion. He was tired of hurting.

Umen 3

Umen studied his unenthusiastic companion. He noticed the tightness around his eyes, the stressed and rigid stance. This boy looked like he had been through hell. If he hadn't of had something heavy on his mind he likely would have been more excited at the potential prospect of a new friend.

Umen wondered what tragedy had befell him and why he was here alone and not wherever he had come from.

Once the game had been prepared he spitted it out on the fire. Then he had some leisure time to get settled in while the food cooked.

Raolvar 4

The food had started to smell rather enticing and it was all he could do not to pull off the charred edges. He hadn't had much luck hunting the last few days and greens got boring after a while.

He supposed this meant that he was in the other boys debt somehow. Though he had built the fire. He felt like he had gotten the sweeter end of the deal. The other guy didn't seem to mind at all. Raol had the sense that the waterling was a chill person.

He was just so on edge after so long being alone he had sort of gotten a bit too used to it. He didn't have to doubt himself.

Umen 4

His stomach rumbled and he hoped that the other male did not notice. He tilted his head back after rotating the spit again. The meteors were making a spectacular display now light brush strokes in the night. He inhaled at the beauty of it.

"If you are done staring at me, why not check out the sky, there is a great show going on."

Umen tended to call stuff as he saw it. Sometimes too penetrating.

Raolvar 5

Blushing and trying to hide it. He guessed that he had been a bit obvious but well one couldn't blame him for warryness. He was only one person, accustomed to a large protective group. His family had been powerful and terrifying. Wayfinders, adventurers, map makers, all. Exploration was in the blood along with the ruggedness required to maintain it. He had not finished his lessons and was too young to have grown into his own position yet in the tribe.

His parents....

He stared up and hoped that Umen would not look over.

Umen 5

He wondered what this blessing meant. Would he have good fortune in the year? Would he finally get to talk to that gorgeous ice girl that had moved here with her sister. She hadn't found a man yet, he may or may not have been watching her subtly. She was powerful and more importantly determined. A good companion to have. He thought she was so cool. He needed to catch up and have a profession then he would see if she wanted to team up with him on adventures.

Maybe it meant new friends in general. He knew both would be good. Perhaps there was something else good coming that he didn't know about yet.

Raolvar 6

Soon enough the food was ready and Raolvar took his with reverence. He was so hungry he could feel the saliva gather in his mouth. He blew on it to help it cool off faster. He could almost yes... he could taste it now.

"Its so good." He mumbled quietly to himself as the fat and flavour burst into his mouth and his stomach all but cried with triumph. He hated getting that hungry.

Green stuff never satisfied for long.

He hoped for his part that the meteor shower represented a token coming from his family, he would trade much for word of them even a scrap of an item that validated their existance.

Other than that he hoped for a nice humble home and a companion or friend or two. He wanted a pet. At least then he wouldn't be alone.

Umen 6

Umen served the other man and smiled at the murmured words. He had excellent hearing.

He too was hungry and relished his first bites of his kills. Somehow the meat always tasted better eaten outside and when he had hunted it himself. Tommorrow he would go for the medium sized game that required packing in his bag. He adored hunting, lived for it, and it sustained him. Made him feel whole and one with his own world.

A part of the narrative of life written in soft sand in various foot print fonts. One.

Raolvar 7

"Well thank you for the company." He had best be on his way home. He disliked walking about during the day. He wasn't sure if he was being hunted through the woods by whatever had attacked his family and he didn't want Umen to be potentially caught in the cross fire.

There had been no time to get an explanation why his family caravan had been attacked and the thought had haunted him all the way here.

He cleaned up as best as he could.

"Take over the fire would you? Your welcome to it."

He disapeared into the night, amid howls of strange beasts.

Umen 7

Well that had been breif but pleasant while it lasted. Umen felt that there might in fact be a friend in this iceling who did not give his name but shared fire. Like some ancient tradition of good will.

Food and companionship for fire and companionship. It was such a bother being a social species sometimes and yet other times he craved a few words of conversation over a shared meal with the crackle of a fire between you.

Meteors were just extra.

He could feel Raol was lonely too. Which made his avoidance...interesting.
