Meaning: His first name is English in usage and became a slang word meaning “man”. His surname is also English.

Proper Address: Capt. Blackthorn is how most would refer to him, though by birth he is Mr. Jack Blackthorn. Only his family and close friends would call him Jack.
Gender: Male
Age: 20-something
Appearance: Standing at a solid 5’10”, Jack has a muscular build that is somewhere between lean and stocky. His skin is tan from all the time he spends outdoors and his eyes are a medium blue. His hair is a deep, chestnut brown and he wears a mustache and goatee.

Origin: A blueblood of Sunderland, Jack was born and raised in the Dartmoor manor.
Station: Second son of the Earl of Dartmoor, he decided that an idle life as a land owner was too dull for his taste. Instead he joined the military where, even if there are not many battles to be won, he would at least be able to travel and enjoy life. He is currently a captain in the cavalry.

Likes: People - nothing wrong with showing a fellow or lady a good time. Physical activity - of any variety. Food - a connoisseur of humble and fine cuisine alike.

History:
Born and raised in Dartmoor manor, Jack enjoyed tagging along behind his brother. They were close enough in age that they got along well and took great pleasure in being partners in crime, reining terror on tutor and nursemaid alike. At his heart, however, Jack was a sweet boy and on his own, he would not seek to cause any real trouble.
Still, he was never content to languish in a sedentary life. He sought adventure and craved movement. Because of this, he went against his parents’ hopes and decided not to finish university. Instead, he joined the cavalry and took to an officer’s life with relish. Although he does enjoy the peacetime because it gives him more time in which to simply enjoy life, if ever Sunderland had true need of him, he would live up to his responsibilities.
Of course, his hedonistic lifestyle was rather dramatically interrupted when, one day, he found himself traipsing into the Wardwood for no apparent reason. When he came out a week later, it was only due to the loyalty of his unit and a fair bit of luck that he managed not to lose his commission. Not too long after that, he found himself saddled with a playful, ridiculous Guardian who was set on stirring up his life. Jack wouldn't have it any other way.
About:
Quick to laugh, and quick of temper, Jack’s moods can be described as mercurial at best. Whatever he is feeling, it will be evident to anyone around him as he rarely bothers to hide his emotions. He has a rather hedonistic outlook on life and will more often pursue that which pleases him than take the safe, sensible path. In other words, Jack has a tendency of leaping before looking. This recklessness permeates every aspect of his life, from personal to business, and has been both an asset and a weakness in his career as a soldier.
Although many consider him to be an incorrigible flirt, the truth is that his flirtation is an unconscious thing that does not always have intent behind it. He finds it to be an enjoyable activity and so assumes that a little harmless teasing is enjoyable to everyone. This is not to say that he is unwilling to take it a step farther, he simply sees no need to unless invited. Despite his hedonism, Jack does know when to limit himself…should he choose to do so.
There is a real man behind the rake, however. Jack might wear his heart on his sleeve, but he is perfectly capable of being discreet or keeping a secret should the need ever arise. He also has a decent head on his shoulders and can keep a clear head and a firm handle on his men in a crisis. Most of all, he is terribly loyal and would never abandon a comrade or break a trust. It is likely that, should he ever fall in love, it would be a love that consumed him body and soul.

• Kit Blackthorn: Kit is his elder brother. Although outwardly they are rather different, they get along quite well and were quite close growing up.

Meaning: It means "star lover" in Greek.
Nicknames: Aster
Gender: Male
Age: Adult
Appearance: His dark face and neck swirl down into a white, slightly speckled body. His antlers have a wood-like texture and his tail is particularly fluffy. His eyes are golden.
Chosen: Jack Blackthorn
Mate: None
Obtained: Dance of the Sugar Plum Faeries RP Contest in the Winter Solstice event, December 2012.
About:
Though he may look like a proud and regal buck, Astrophel is about as playful and impish as they come. This is especially true when there is snow on the ground. Above all else, he absolutely adores playing games, often dragging his chosen out of doors and into some bit of mischief or another whether Jack likes it or not. Of course, not everyone finds his antics as amusing as he does, but that does not deter him in the slightest. He seems to have made it his goal in life to get the world at large to lighten up and enjoy life.
In sharp contrast to his usual playfulness, Astrophel has a startling bellicose side befitting the Guardian of a cavalry captain. When there is need, he can switch from mischievous to battle-ready in an instant. Indeed, he seems to enjoy the thought of a good fight nearly as much as he enjoys his games. As such, Jack has trained him as he would a war horse and the buck has excelled in the art.
Dreaming:
Much as in the waking world, Astrophel is a fey creature in the Dreaming. He and his twin sister have always been together and will always continue to be together, playing their games and causing mischief wherever they go. They compliment and complete each other more than any other Guardian ever possibly could and Astrophel is completely devoted to Idriss.
However, the wood has been getting more dangerous of late and he does not feel that they are completely safe on their own. In order to ensure his sister's safety, they have recently joined a ragtag band of Guardians and other creatures unofficially led by the Don.
