Origin: Japanese
Meaning:
Saito (斎藤) is the family name, and means "purification wisteria."
Ran (蘭) means "orchid."
When the family was forced from their village and began their long life of traveling, they chose the new surname of Saito because of its meaning, which would serve as a constant reminder of nature and the importance of the spirits within. Ran was given his first name for the same reason.

Build: Slightly tall, with lean muscle tone and a thin face and body. Farm boy.

Hair: Deep brown, loosely curled, and kept in slightly long-ish layers that sweep to the side.

That, and his bluntness tends to make others think otherwise. This extends to ✿✿✿the Nobles, as well. When not battling, Ran sees no point in treating others with hostility unless circumstances have called for it, and thus will be amiable until he sees that he ✿✿✿should be acting otherwise. His kindness ends when he has been taken advantage of or otherwise insulted; after that, he has been known to become quite cold, and is quick to ✿✿✿judge others thereafter.Bright: ✿✿✿quick-witted or intelligent✿✿✿Although he doesn't make any mention of it, Ran is actually quite smart. He has a hard time seeing this in himself, but his mind works quickly, and he can be very creative when ✿✿✿the situation calls for it. ✿✿✿The head of the Saito family, a seasoned hunter and known for his vast knowledge of herbs and natural cures. He has the most amazing beard you have ever seen. Hideharu ✿✿✿leads the hunting trips and supervises his youngest son, Ran, while they are out. His belief that actions speak louder than words has caused him to be less than talkative, and a ✿✿✿life of traveling through harsh weather has hardened him both physically and mentally, creating an intimidating, wizened figure. He respects Ran's private nature, and because of ✿✿✿that, the two share a silent bond that does not involve delving into each others' private lives.Saito Hayase: ✿✿✿swift current, rapids ; 47 years old
✿✿✿A durable and careful woman. Hayase supervises her only daughter, Ishi, preparing her to eventually become a wife and support her own family. She clings to her old life, but ✿✿✿has traveled with her husband throughout the years, keeping their culture alive with him and supporting their family with a firm hand. She is very skilled in weaving things and ✿✿✿making clothing, and supplies her family with clothing that represents the Ainu race. She and her daughter work diligently on the family herb garden, providing herbs for ✿✿✿themselves and for neighbors who seek them out for medicinal purposes.❀ SIBLINGSSaito Haruki: ✿✿✿spring wood ; 27 years old
✿✿✿The twin of Fuyuki, and the oldest child of the family. He is three minutes older than his twin, and does not hesitate to parade that around when he and Fuyuki began to squabble. ✿✿✿Haruki is an excellent hunter, and is both old and skilled enough to go on his own; however, he prefers to hunt with the rest of his family, should he run into particularly large ✿✿✿game, as he doesn't like taking too many risks. He is much calmer than his twin, and feels that he needs to protect Fuyuki from himself because of his rash nature. He and ✿✿✿Fuyuki share a close, brotherly bond, and feel particularly special as siblings because they are twins. He and his twin love teasing Ishi and Ran when bored.Saito Fuyuki: ✿✿✿snowy winter ; 27 years old
✿✿✿The twin of Haruki, and the second oldest child of the family. Because he is three minutes younger than Haruki, there are times the two argue over who is truly in charge of the ✿✿✿siblings. He is a very good hunter, although not quite as good as his twin, due to the fact that he is always trying to go out on his own to impress his family. Haruki scolds him to ✿✿✿no end about his recklessness, which leads to squabbles about petty things. His impulsiveness often gets him into trouble, as he also has trouble holding his tongue.Saito Ishi: ✿✿✿rock, stone ; 12 years old
✿✿✿The youngest of the siblings, and the only daughter. Ishi was a somber child, but is growing into a more outgoing teenager with every passing day. She dislikes practicing things ✿✿✿such as weaving and embroidery so often, and will discreetly gripe about it when she believes she is alone, but she understands the importance of doing as she is told by her ✿✿✿parents, and hopes to make them proud. Ishi works very hard on the herb garden with her mother.

Ran's family has been traveling since long before he was born.
His parents once lived in a close-knit village far, far to the north. They were happy enough, and everyone helped each other to get by. The villagers relied heavily on the natural resources of the land, and respected nature deeply, believing that everything held a spirit. They took only what was needed, and never wasted what they had.
The desire to control the natural resources around their village brought another, more technologically-advanced village to attempt to take it by force, which led to war. The fighting waged on for several years, eventually coming to a close when the invading village, fed up with "beating around the bush," simply burned the village to the ground. Ran's parents, being young, were chased out of the village as it burned by their parents, who stayed behind to attempt to help the others escape. They have yet to meet any other survivors, and have been traveling from land to land since.
The Saito family had a very difficult time adjusting anywhere as they traveled. They chose new names in order to avoid conflict with strangers as they traveled the lands, and made it a point to name themselves and any children they would have after nature, the root of their culture. They felt out of place and mistrustful of those around them, feelings that only grew the farther they got from their homeland. They began to seclude themselves to their home, living off of the land and refusing help from others.
When they moved to Lunaria, Ran was only an infant. Although his parents felt just as out-of-place in Lunaria as they had anywhere else, they quickly befriended the Koga family, which was the stepping stone for them to feel truly comfortable in their new home. Ran grew up with Yuudai as one of his closest friends, a friendship that has lasted into their adulthood. Deciding to fight for the Legions was not an easy decision when they considered their close friends, the Koga family, but they had long-ago sworn to look out for each other and survive, no matter what. It was unanimous.
When Ran was old enough to understand war properly and the situation in Lunaria, he soundly agreed with his family's decision to remain with the emperor and fight for him to protect what they had worked so hard for. Despite the fact that his friend, Yuudai, had chosen to fight for the Nobles, he pushed past his hesitation and became resolute in his path. He had to protect their home, and their lives.
Currently, he is a hunter and works to help raise money around the house, doing what he can to do his part and aid his family.

❀ A LOOK INTO HIS HEARTAlliance: ✿✿✿LegionReasons: ✿✿✿Ran's family was a big influence on his decision for which side to fight for; paranoid by a past of war and loss, they had planted their roots in Lunaria and planned to live there for ✿✿✿the rest of their lives. The idea of the rebel Nobles wishing to overthrow the emperor was, to them, a threat on their very way of living, as they had been driven out of their ✿✿✿home before. His parents and older brothers were unanimous in their decision that this could not happen. Because Ran values family and believes that they are meant to support ✿✿✿each other, he readily agreed with this, and chose to train to fight for the Legion.
✿✿✿Their reasoning was selfish, but not unusual; the emperor had his four generals, as well as a fine army and had been in power over Lunaria for some time, ruling it - in their ✿✿✿opinion - fairly and wisely. They weighed their options, and decided they would rather be on the emperor's side if it lost and attempt to rebuild again than be on the Nobles' side ✿✿✿and be forced out of Lunaria (or worse) upon defeat.
✿✿✿Despite his resolution in supporting his family, there is an inkling of doubt in Ran's heart over his choice, and that is because his friend, Yuudai, is fighting for the Nobles. He is ✿✿✿afraid to fight him, not wanting to imagine what the results may be. His hesitation - pushed to the back of his mind, as he is prone to do - may or may not be devastating to him ✿✿✿in the future.❀ DOWN TO BUSINESSWhat He Can Offer: ✿✿✿Ran's family has an extended knowledge of the land, since one of the first things they did was acquaint themselves with the wilderness of Lunaria. They have been hunting many, ✿✿✿many times, and know nature. Ran is an excellent tracker, and while he is known around his family as a habitual screw-up, things that deal with nature are his strong-points, ✿✿✿which he tends to be pretty good at. He recognizes subtle things that he knows should be foreign to an area based on where it is, the time of year, and many other factors. ✿✿✿Concealing his presence among foliage is simple for him, and because he has been tracking animals to hunt many times before, he is able to move swiftly and silently through ✿✿✿the brush.
✿✿✿Ran's knowledge of the land extends to uses for it, as well; herbs, for example, are a specialty of the Saito family, and are used in natural cures and ceremonies. Ran has ✿✿✿studied herbs for the majority of his life, and can hunt and pick out herbs and plants that could be used for medicinal purposes if need be.Weapon: ✿✿✿FIGHTER | Two simple kama.
✿✿✿CAPTAIN | A kusarigama; notably, the kama has gained a chain and weighted ball.
✿✿✿TENRYUJIN | An advanced, modified kusarigama that now has two sickle ends and a very long, detailed chain.Fighting Skills: ✿✿✿In preparation for his eventual weapon, Ran practices Hōten-ryū, a martial art well-suited to bladed weapons and also concealed weapons.Magic: ✿✿✿Weapon Projectile Magic; in the future, Ran will use it to control his kusarigama. It will allow him to freely move the long chain and sickles, as well as deliver piercing blows he ✿✿✿would not normally be able to do as effectively without.

Ran's home is located on the outskirts of Lunaria, where they have convenient access to both water and woods. It's a simple home that is made to suit only their basic needs and shield them from the elements.
One of the most notable features of their home is their generous herb garden, which features herbs that can be used for medicinal purposes, as well as some cooking ingredients. They believe strongly in natural remedies, and rely on herbs to substitute for the medicines that they previously could not get a hold of for long periods of time in their travels. Now, they offer herbs to others for a small price. The women of the family work tirelessly to maintain the herb garden.
