 ❀History:
To say that Ishtar’s story is a sad one is somewhat of an understatement—But in Lunaria, orphans are common, and their bitter pasts even more so. Ishtar’s sad account is merely one of many; for her, however, it is very reason why she became the person she is today- independent, distrustful, and wild. She was born on a relatively clear night, to a family, if you can call it that, whose life surrounded wine in more ways than one. Her mother, Hayat, was a frail-minded singer who had a fondness for drink, and her father, Aliyy Numair, was a respected Noble wine merchant, traveling the world in search of exotic tastes. He left long before Ishtar was born, leaving her mother with only a bottle of wine and a broken heart. Ishtar's original name, 'Mirit', comes from her wine-sodden background. Alcohol took over the life of Hayat, who was despairing over the fact that her child would never know a father, and that her lover would not acknowledge his child. Soon, Hayat's mind began to drift more and more to the point of lunatism, leaving young Ishtar--then called Mirit--- to survive on her own from a young age. Her mother never really recovered her sanity, and Mirit soon tried to seek a door out of her harsh reality at home, as well. She had yet to find an escape from the dark, narrow dwelling that seemed to house only nightmares and a drunken Hayat. Her life didn't really change much when her mother died, except for the growth of a burning hatred towards Aliyy for never coming to her mother's funeral. Mirit never saw Aliyy as a 'father' in her eyes again. From her view, he tried much too hard to preserve his own honor than worrying about others’. It was also the first time Mirit had realized that Nobles were an unresponsible lot. Up until that time, she’d been fairly neutral, in terms of the war. But seeing how desperate the Nobles were to keep their own dignity and outer appearances, without the least concern for others, Mirit began to wonder how Lunaria ruled by them would thrive, if they somehow managed to overthrow the Emperor. Still, politics were not first on Mirit’s mind. Survival was. She lived on the streets for quite a while, dressed as a boy to avoid uncomfortable circumstances. Her appearance back then, though Mirit hates to acknowledge it, is the entire reason why she cares so much about her appearance now, as a performer. She hates remembering the times she had to act so unladylike, and now does everything in her power to flaunt her femininity… When she discovered dancing, however, Mirit knew that she had to do anything to learn it, even throwing away her safe disguise of a boy. Mirit found that the swift, elegant movements the dancers used seemed to wipe away reality, and make her forget what she really was. She became addicted to the feeling of taking on another identity and soon, she started practicing the dances with the performers. Mirit was content with her life then, and so was horrified when a Noble landowner bought the streets that had been her temporary home with the dancers. He had wanted to use the land as a training camp for his army, and bribed all of the other dancers to either join the Noble side, or die. It wasn’t until long that Mirit’s friends abandoned her to escape, and left her alone at the place that held so many happy memories. From that moment on, Mirit danced alone.
A year or two later, a mysterious man claiming to be a ringmaster asked Mirit to join. At first, she thought he was captivated by her dances, and completely oblivious to the true person, broken as she was, within. He gave her a showname, 'Ishtar', who was a Babylonian goddess of love, fertility, and war. At first, 'Ishtar' liked her name and the way it easily veiled her past, but then she wondered if her pseudonym was just that-- a thin veil. Still, she was no stranger to deception, and she let the circus leader believe she was as beautiful as her movements and namesake. She needed to find another distraction, and the bright lights of the show seemed just the right drug. Not long after, Ishtar’s true, bitter, personality just started to reveal itself, but she was surprised that none of her fellow performers cared. She finally found a place where she could be accepted, but she’s yet to find the hidden pulleys and many mirrors of the entertainment world. As strange as it may sound, Ishtar’s façade is lost among a sea of others in the circus.
At the present, she’s ready to escape yet another life, and take on the Nobles raging through Lunaria. Ishtar is a full-blown Legion girl, and her history gives you a sense of why. Still, she doesn’t quite despise the Nobles for what they did to her—more for the reason that they were the ones who started the war in the first place. Her reason for attending the Academy is just so she can see if all Nobles are the same, or if she’s simply run into the bad ones. Curiosity has brought Ishtar to the Academy, so to say.

♥ » sign HERE please !! ________ Mirit Numair ♥ » but PLEASE call meee ________ Ishtar - - -
Origin: Arabic/Middle Eastern
Meaning: "Mirit", her original name, is supposed to mean 'sweet wine' in the Hebrew-like culture from her mother's side. From a family somewhat obsessed with wine, it suited her almost perfectly. However, Ishtar gave up the name 'Mirit' along with her past, ever since her circus manager renamed her. He (and she, I suppose) consider 'Mirit' an unfit name for a dancer. Ishtar refuses to go by it in public, and highly dislikes it when certain individuals, namely Nilgun, call her that.
The surname ”Numair” is Arabic for 'panther', and comes from the paternal side of her family. Ishtar moves with all the grace of a panther, and scratches like one, too.
Her showgirl name, "Ishtar", was derived from a Babylonian goddess who was a patron of love, fertility, and war. Go figure.

 ❀Personality:
Cynical- What others see as a full glass of milk, Ishtar only sees something that will spill. She’s a person who expects the worse to happen, despite the odds. While not exactly a cautious person—she’ll take whatever chances she can get--Ishtar doesn’t have the happiest outlook on life. Her cynicism lets her see the worst qualities in others, as well as overlook the good features. This attribute leads to misunderstandings, fights, and the occasional teary apology. Strangely enough, the people who are most frustrated by Ishtar's pessimism are the ones who tend to see her perspective in the end. Ishtar’s tendency to overlook the good things in life helps her cope better with the negative aspects. After all, one can’t be disappointed by something one never expected to happen in the first place, right?
Deceitful- Growing up as a ‘practical’ girl, Ishtar understood the importance of money. Her deprived childhood taught her to value worldly things much more than her morals—as a result, she developed a bit of a talent for lying to get what she wants. Ishtar justifies her deceptive ways by telling everyone that it’s a world where it’s the survival of the fittest- you either prey or get preyed upon. She’s the type of person who waves away uncertainties and a guilty conscience easily at the moment, but dwells upon a mistake afterwards for days, unbeknownst to others. Even with a somewhat steady job at the circus, Ishtar hasn’t given up her light-fingered ways. She prides herself on being able to take care of herself; in her own eyes, her deceitful ways are as much a weapon as a shield. Few people know her double life as a street thief and a circus performer, and fewer still, if any, understand the necessity for them. Ishtar has fended for herself long enough to understand that food and shelter are worth much more than ethics. So what if she makes a little pocket money by, well, picking others’ pockets?
Covetous- Though not a hoarder, she simply wants the best things in life. Ishtar loves anything she can’t have, and once something’s within her reach, she instantly loses interest in it. From people to jewelry to the occasional bird, Ishtar wants many, many things. This trait is yet another result of her morally deprived childhood, since she never understood that worldly things aren’t everything. Ishtar adores sparkly, smooth, and elegant things, not necessarily in that order, and decorates her performer tent with all sorts of baubles. Occasionally, however, Ishtar will feel a pull towards something insubstantial—but she still doesn’t know how to react to that. Her greed makes her vulnerable to bribes and corruption, and more than one performer has seen her smuggling restricted goods through a city with the rest of the circus caravan. Ishtar’s jealousy of people who have what she doesn’t isn’t shown on the surface at all. In fact, many people mistake the look on her face for arrogance instead of envy.
Fierce- Ishtar possesses an extremely fiery temperance, which can come out every once in a while. It balances her otherwise calm nature, and gives a certain exotic, showy feel to her dances at times. When Ishtar dances, her fierce nature comes out gracefully; when not performing, however it gets very ugly. Her surname, Numair, describes Ishtar almost perfectly; with the wildness of a panther and claws like one as well, many prospective friends and lovers have been scared off by her sharp, scorching words--and occasional scratches. Ishtar is passionate about what she does and the people she loves, and can act very aggressively when provoked about both. Her wild, somewhat unpredictable nature is what gives her away in the streets as a thief—and also what puts her at the center of attention in the circus. When her intenseness cools down, however, Ishtar can be a bit of a pushover. After all, she’s only as strong as her anger is.
Graceful- Clumsiness isn’t even in her vocabulary. Ishtar's actions never show anything but elegance, and her status in the circus is high. She, in a way, is considered circus nobility, and her flowing dances define her as such. She calculates her actions so quickly that it’s nearly impossible for anyone to see her inner awkwardness. Ishtar trips, stumbles, and makes as many mistakes as anybody, but she recovers so fast that nobody but she would know about it—though that one mistake will have her sulking for days. Her refined actions inside and outside of the circus show her to be a practiced dancer, and her lithe appearance gives her an air of poise. Still, don’t let her grace deceive you. Ishtar is much more likely to slip your purse out from underneath your nose while performing than she would dance for you for free. Her elegance is pretty much only on the exterior.

 ❀Alliance::
Why-
How-
Stages- [Academy Student] Attack: ?????? Defense: Shahrizad, her spider-silk sash. (Person of the City) Sharizad's name comes from the Arabian Sharazad. Truth be told, Ishtar prefers using Shar as a distraction than an actual weapon, similiar to it's namesake, the storyteller-slash-courtesan from A Thousand and One Nights. It is a light violet-red hue, and very transparent. However, it's very durable and very useful for smothering people is heavier than it looks.
[Fighter] Attack: Shahrizad, her now-spider silk whip. Defense: ?????? 'Person of the City' describes Shar in the way that it can be hidden in almost any which way, and can be carried unnoticeably on Ishtar's person very easily. She likes to wrap it around her left forearm and sometimes her left ankle (therefore making it easier to grab with her right hand), and it can be disguised as a gold cuff to match the ones around her wrists.
