Character Name: S'kor (BI: Silbakor)
Age: 19 Turns
Sexual Orientation: Hetero
Rank: Wingrider
History:
Born in the south, mainly the western continent, it’s all Silbakor’s known growing up; learning the trade routes that lead from hold to hold and to Trine Weyr. His parents were traders of the Camrann Caravan. While his father is still with the caravan, his mother is not. During his sixth turn she left the caravan to go live in one of the holds that they often pass through. Rumors flew. Was it a love affair? Or perhaps his father was cruel to her? Only his mother knows and she’s not talking.

On his eleventh birthing day it was finally time for him to choose his trading path. Without hesitation standing before the Caravan Master, his father, and other master Silbakor said clearly, “Spice. I will be a trader of spice.” The spice master came forward to accept the lad as apprentice. For the following turn he dogged the heels of his master. Picking up the words and trading tricks he would need to know.

As soon as she was old enough to toddle, his sister has followed him around. He never seemed to mind and always looked out for her. When she scrapped her knees, it was Silbakor she ran crying to and not an auntie. Even after he started to mature and everyone else thought he would finally push her aside, he didn’t. There have been rumors of Silbakor becoming the next Caravan Master. If he’s heard them he’s given no sign that he’s noticed. Content with his spice trading Silbakor has shown no interest in becoming the next Caravan Master when the current one is ready to retire.

In the caravan, Silbakor knows two brothers. One, Sogare, he likes for his trading and horsemanship skills. He approves of the young man’s skill in training his own runners. On the other hand he doesn’t like Sogare’s older brother, Tsagare. He feels the lad doesn’t do well at trading and even looks down upon him for being unable to train his own runner.

By a personal request Silbakor has kept his eyes out for wild scarves, beads, and ribbons. He trades them with Salin, a candidate at Trine Weyr.

Description:
When seen for the first time the thing of note is his bulk. At only 5’5” it’s the ripple of muscle under the skin that draws the eye. Many a girl has fawned over that body. His almond-shaped eyes are a coal grey. They seem empty and lifeless until he smiles, then they twinkle with humor. Jet black hair accents the olive of his skin.

When it comes to clothes Silbakor likes to wear tight pants of a dark green. He wears an open vest of a lighter green and never a shirt. The vest has several pockets lined to keep water out for special spices. Around his hips circles a three-finger wide belt of brown leather. It carries a wide variety of pouches. Some hold more spices; some contain small tools that might been needed in an emergency. Say to fix a wheel.

Personality:
From the outside Silbakor seems a very solemn fellow. Smiles are rare and slow to cross his lips. This isn’t because he’s mean; it is him taking his time to think through before he acts. Silbakor isn’t one to give the wrong impression during a situation. The only one who gets all the smiles she wants is his sister. He knows his sister looks up to him and does all he can to encourage her. When something does go wrong, Silbakor will take his time examining the problem before pronouncing his verdict.

Even though he’s a spice trader, some still think he should have been a herdbeast trader. Silbakor has an excellent sense on how to get an animal to do what he wishes without the use of violence. A fact he prides himself highly on, no matter how difficult an animal. He posses a gentle touch and soft word that often will get an animal to do what a whip could not. “A well trained beast is the key to a good trader,” is a phrase Silbakor will swear by. His own black stallion is a fine example of that.

His father was often busy with trading when he and Optheli were small children. As a result Silbakor took up the mantle of protector after their mother left the caravan. He has the attitude of a knight when it comes to defending the honor of others. Insults to himself are easily brushed aside as he knows they are untrue. Silbakor knows he will make courting Optheli hard and is ok with it. He feels she should only get the best.

Occasionally, Silbakor will make a split second judgment on someone. There is no rhyme or reason to it. Taking in a scene he determines a person’s attitude and position. However he fails to account for unusual circumstances and events that can change a person’s behavior. Because of this once his mind is made up about you it is a very hard thing to change.

Silbakor has a high respect for authority. He understands how much hard work it is to reach master rank. Knowledge and experience that comes with master rank, he feels, should be passed on down. Hoarding wisdom to oneself is foolish and detrimental to all. Silbakor values his friends greatly and puts a large amount of trust in them. If you need his help you can certainly count on him being there to back you. In a battle he expects his friends to guard his back exactly as he guards theirs.

Although he won’t admit it out loud he has a reason for being a spice trader. Silbakor has a hidden passion for the spices; the ways they are used in different dishes and which region uses which spices. A favorite past-time is trying foods from different locations then trying to puzzle out the method and spices used in the dish.

Mine, do you have spice to go with the meat? Your Scarath is so hungry but it would taste better if you did...

Name: Scarath
Color: Bronze
Stage: Adult
Cert:
Rp Color: #995500
Animal: Goliath Beetle
Personality: This dragon is a massive bronze, with his egg rivaling the size of even the queen's egg. He may be large but bronze Scarath is a gentle giant with a saintly amount of patience. He's soft spoken and a good listener, so slow to anger that some wonder if he's got a temper at all. Scarath's generally the quiet sort, the kind of unobtrusive presence that you note and give space to but are not intimidated by.

He does have the ability to lead, his patience and friendly approach making him a welcome group member in almost all circles. While some might claim he's not a particularly smart bronze, that's not true. Just because he's slow to anger, and slow to act does not mean he doesn't understand a situation - indeed, he does understand, or at least tries to. Everybody has a story, a reason, and he'd like to hear it before he passes judgement. Once a decision is made, however, he's probably the most stubborn bronze out there. Careful consideration, due attention to those involved... it can't all be wrong!

One thing to note with Scarath is he loves to eat. He adores human food as much as a good kill but his true weakness are sweets. When he's young, and discovers the kitchens, His will be hard pressed to keep the large and determined bronze from getting into the vats of dough and sugar. Or from pinching trays of sweetrolls when no one's looking. Either way, the kitchen is in for a but of trouble.

When it comes to Flights, Scarath will give chase each and every time and because of his size, will often be among the favourites to win. His sensitive nature, however, may mean he will compete only to throw the end result if he knows someone else is truly, honestly driven to win - he's not much of a competitor in that sense.

Why Me!?

Does this really need explaining? Scarath needed someone who would not hurry him but still balanced him out and who he knew would strive to succeed without being consumed by ambition. Silbakor’s a steadfast and honourable man, wanting to weigh his options and do the best he can – a trait that was crucial in Scarath’s decision. He’s also not a violent man and more interested in solving thing then in exacerbating them and that, too, resonated with the pleasant bronze.

Furthermore, Silbakor’s honour is something Scarath could not ignore. A protector, a family man, and possessed of patience, the spice trader embodied things that the bronze yearned for, things he felt completed him.

However, Silbakor’s love of cooking and Scarath’s love of eating miiiight make it difficult for the pair to maintain a healthy physique. The bronze has the potential to over eat but he’ll always be His’ favourite taste tester.

There’s not a whole lot of friction in this pair but it’s all the stronger for it, really. They have a huge amount of potential and Scarath is quite looking forward to whisking His away on an adventure of the Weyr-kind.

Life of a Trader

Silbakor was born to the trader caravan Camrann. Upon reaching apprenticeship age, he signed up with one of the spice masters. His knowledge of spices quickly grew for spices and food were his secret passion. Along with learning spices, their uses, properties, the young trader learned horse taming. He was very good at it; training his own stallion and many that are used by the caravan to pull the wagons.

The young boy absorbed knowledge in spices and trading. Learning the trade routes and how to navigate without a map was also drilled into him. Silbakor matured into a confident young man. When the time came he was promoted to Journeyman. About a turn after that, the caravan was scheduled to make a prolonged stop at Trine Weyr.

Disturbing Situations

I met an interesting lad the Weyr today. Seemed his silver flit was throwing a bit of a tantrum over the Benden healer's flits. Had a nice chat with Farellen about his flit and the healers. Seems they're not well liked if his reaction is any indication. He didn't have any knowledge about the boycotting of goods. I asked him to keep his ear out and offered to relay any info I found back. What is Benden healers doing at Trine?

Puzzle Pieces

Having dinner at the Weyr. Optheli over heard some people talking about Benden and went to pull us into it. There were rumors of Benden trying to steal the queen egg. Surely they wouldn't go to such measures? Salin was there with them. He usually trades for scarves from me. Seems the healers are getting a bad rap and collecting a large amount of info. On what, nobody's sure. It didn't amount to much and I wonder if they were just rumor mongering.

Beta Clutch Hatching

Silbakor Impresses Bronze Scarath and becomes S'kor.

Dragonflight Pern

Fresh Dirt Egg - Directly across from the Ray of Sunshine egg rests a massively large egg, one that would be hard pressed to be mistaken for anything other than a bronze. The overall feeling from this egg is one of pure gentleness with a hint of...well, hunger. All hands as welcomed, if not encouraged, to touch this shell over and over for a feeling of reassurance and a rumble in their stomachs.

Dragonflight Pern
As the Candidates filed in and settled, it seemed the first of the eggs was beginning to hatch. The gold egg was already moving!? It was wriggling! Several people caught their breaths at that - a gold hatching first was uncommon to say the least!

After a moment the motion died down and the gold egg stopped. Wait... the Fresh Dirt egg, the massive companion egg to the queen's egg, suddenly tipped forward and rolled down the incline of the sand that had been pushed up against it and the queen egg. A moment later a richly hued foot stuck out on end, followed by another and then the whole rear of the Fresh Dirt egg cracked and fell away as a decidedly massive, decidedly handsome bronze backed out and blinked green-red eyes at the world.

Covered in egg goo and yet shining despite it, he was suddenly the object of desire for a great many people. A bronze like that - so large he was probably as big as the unhatched queen and so beautiful - he was sure to be something amazing!

And beginning the hatching with a robust, healthy bronze could only mean good fortune for the clutch and several of the more superstitious riders sighed in relief. Gold Brakiath had done it again.

Dragonflight Pern
The Bronze took his time, stretching out his well proportioned body and flaring his wings as he flicked goo from them and dug stubby talons in the Sands. Whatever he was doing, he seemed to not be worried.

When he was finished stretching and had yawned quite hugely, he'd meandered over to towards the boys and sat down on his rear haunches to peer at the ensemble. He as appraising them, his gaze flicking over some, lingering on others as he searched. His was here somewhere... it was just difficult to find the boy.

As the bronze appraised the boys, a second egg wiggled and snapped, the shell shattering as the little green broke free from the Shirking Violet egg and keened in surprised as she fell into the resulting puddle of goo. Flailing her limbs a moment, she eventually got them under control and stood, dripping in egg fluids and bright eyed as she scanned the Sands, a quiet bugle announcing her presence to Hers. Would Hers hear it and come forward?

Dragonflight Pern
From his position, the bronze had a wonderful view of the male Candidates and the Stands behind them. He'd stared hard at each of the Candidates, almost seemed ready to walk towards a few in particular but he would shake his head and sit back once more.

Then his gaze wandered to the Stands and stayed there. His mind seemed to grinding through considerations as he eyed those in the crowd with a critical expression. And then... then that confidence surged and his eyes whirled a beautiful green as he happily got up and walked towards the male Candidates. He looked hard at Devlin, then eyed Sheridan but didn't stop as he pushed his way through the ranks. It wasn't hard but he was strong and determined.

He'd found His, apparently, but His was not among the Candidates! When he reared up and scrambled over the low retaining wall to get onto an access ramp, he crooned as he shouldered and bumbled his way through the crowd, ignoring those who reached out to touch him as he passed. When at last he found His, he sat down and ruffled his wings as he peered hopefully into Silbakor's eyes.

Mine, do you have spice to go with the meat? Your Scarath is so hungry but it would taste better if you did...

And, that as they say, was that. A promising beginning and an odd twist to the day and it was just the start of the Hatching!

Meanwhile, the little green toddled about, heading straight for the boys and the gap Scarath had opened in their ranks, warbling as she peered into the faces of the boys. Hers was here... everybody was looking elsewhere but she was looking here... hers was here, somewhere, she was certain!

I heard the dragons humming and knew the Hatching was close. Grabbing 'Theli, we made a dash for the Stands. The Hatching began well. A bronze first off, and shards was he big! He took his time, just sitting there in the sands. It seemed like he'd found his rider when he went into the male candidates. He never did stop by one. Just kept coming straight through them and towards the Stands. He scrambled up and calm as you pleased came over and sat beside me. I..... Stunned, that's all I can say. Me? Impressed to a Bronze.

*Chuckle* Optheli went wild. I think she had enough excitement for both of us. After that I had to take Scarath down to be fed. Needless to say, I bet everything is going to become topsy-turvy. There was some pretty wild dragon and new rider antics. Most notable was the new queen's rider and queen. My second surprise, was Optheli Impressed a Green herself.

Beta Hatching Feast

A day after the Hatching, there was the Hatching Feast. The Weyrwoman Abigail and Weyrleader N'rak greeted the new riders and gave them, what I learned later, their junior weyrling knots. Ground rules were laid down. Now I wonder why they have that rule?
