Lilias slid under the water, her long auburn hair flowing out behind her. Bright fish never failed to dazzle her eyes every time she dove in one of the lakes. But today she was not hunting the bright fish. This time she was looking for their spider-like counterparts, the crustaceans. She herself was particularly fond of the Pern versions of lobster and crab. They were bright like the fish but occasionally they would pinch, making crustacean catching a humorous, and sometimes painful ordeal. As long as you grabbed them right you were fine but it your grip slipped watch out! Lilias kicked her feet and went near the rocky outcrops a favored hiding place of her elusive prey. She peeked under a rock and found nothing she stayed down a little longer scoping out other prospective hiding places. Then she rose for air. Her head broke the surface and she looked around. Hmm S'kor and Scarath were here, how curious. She swam over to say hello.
"What are you guys doing here?" she queried. "Did you come for the seafood too?"

S'kor ran his hand through his hair. It was such a beautiful day. He had seen the sun sparkling off the water and couldn't resist a walk by the ocean. Scarath had wanted to come, and his rider had seen no reason he couldn't come. The pair had walked down to the beach and started to wander aimlessly. S'kor rested his hand on his dragon's shoulder as they walked along. Amusing himself, he admired the size of the bronze's foot prints.
Mine. The candidate Lilias is here. She is swimming. I think a swim would be nice too. The bronze rumbled a greeting to the girl. Did she say food? What is seafood, Mine?
S'kor gave a wave and headed closer to the candidate. He stopped just shy of the water, so his boots wouldn't get wet. "Hey there, Lilias. Out for a stroll. Saw the sun sparkling off the water and couldn't resist. You? Scarath says hi."
He paused to answer the dragon. She did. Don't go getting ideas. Seafood is food that comes from water. Usually the ocean.
Scarath lifted his head and looked at Lilias curiously His eyes whirled a faster blue-green with interest. He looked at the water around her. I didn't know there was food in there.

"Oh I'm just catching the Weyr some crustaceans for crab cakes. Want to help me? I'll make sure you get the freshest when they are cooked." She waggled her eyebrows entincingly. "They like my seafood recipes in the kitchen." she said as she slicked her wet hair out of her eyes. She wiggled her toes as some brave minnows began nibbling on them. She swam closer to shore so she could talk without screaming at the dragonrider. As she got closer she admired Scarath's whirling eyes. Dragon eyes were so expressive, unlike people's who often had the shutters closed on their "windows to the soul."

S'kor sighed to himself. He bet he wouldn't get any peace from Scarath unless he helped Lilias. Not that he was against helping a lady; he hadn't planned on getting into the water. Wearing his good clothes that shouldn't be ruined by getting them wet. Quickly he debated between running back for his swimming garment or just swimming in his trunks. Since it was just Lilias around, for opted for the latter.
Scarath looked at rider and rumbled in amusement at his delemia. Luckily dragons didn't have to worry about that. He took off from the beach. Flying out to deeper water and diving in.
S'kor stripped down to his trunks and quickly slipped his musclar body into the chill water. He caught his breath until he got all the way in and ducked down. Swimming out to meet Lilias, he grinned. "I see he already beat me in."
As they tread water a sudden rush surrounds them as a school of fish swim in from deeper water.

Lilias's eyes widened as S'kor began to strip. She looked away until he entered the water. She laughed as Scarath dove into the clear cold water. She was delighted when the fish schooled around them, most likely fleeing from the dragons presence.
"I should go fishing with dragonriders more often," she said to herself. Unfortunately crustaceans didn't school like fish.
"C'mon S'kor, I will show you where the likely hiding places are. Then if you find a lobster or crab tell me when we come up for air. I will tell you how to grab one and then demonstrate with the first one we find. I don't want you getting pinched for your help."
She dove under the water and pointed to one of the two nearby crevices and swam toward the other to check for crab and lobster.

What are you doing Mine? I want to help catch them. Scarath lifted his head out of the water to look at them.
S'kor snorted. "You'd probably step on them. Stay there and keep scaring the fish or something. We'll get them." Scarath huffed and lowered his head to blow a blast of water at His. He could be careful and step on them.
He turned his attention back to the candidate. If she felt that would work best, he was willing to go along with it. Being a land boy he had not much experience with catching water animals. S'kor nodded and dove down with her. He gave a thumbs up and swam over to it. Clinging to a rock he looked around.

Lilias watched S'kor for a while and then swam closer to her rock. It was a dark gray with a deep crevice running through its center. The shadowy crack looked promising, but did it hold a lobster or crab. She would see.
She peeked around the edge trying to see through all the murk and kicked her feet again as the minnows started munching. They were overly firendly today it seemed.

S'kor did his best. He hunted high and low around his chosen location. Having no luck and running low on air, the bronze rider surfaced. He shook water out of his eyes then looked for Lilias. Seemed she was still below. Taking deep breaths, S'kor tread water.
I have good eyesight, Mine. I could find them easily. Scarath was sure he could help in the capture. S'kor laughed, "Do you even know what one looks like?" The blank dumbfounded feeling from the dragon made him laugh harder. "Can't find what you don't know what to look for Scarath. Once we find one we'll show it to you." S'kor mused that a dragon wouldn't normally notice something so small.

The murk cleared and Lilias saw feelers waving frantically in the dark recesses in the cave. The large pinchers stayed mostly still, but she new they could pack a wallop. She hooked a finger and caught it on the horny carapace, usually out of reach of the claws. She dragged the reluctant lobster out and shot for the surface. She needed air!.
As her head broke and she gasped for oxygen she held the madly pinching creature out and away from her body. "S'kor! I got one! Come see!" she steadied herself with powerful strokes from the arm that wasn't holding a crazed lobster. Her excitement shone in her face, this was her first lobster in years. She should have thought about this before.
She swam awkwardly over to the dragonrider. admiring the bronze dragon on her way.
"See you hold them like this. There may be another one down in the hole I was at why don't you go look. Do you think Scarath would mind holding the lobster basket for us? So we don't have to swim all the way to shore, over and over?" she babbled happily.

S'kor was about to tease the good-natured dragon again, when Lilias broke the surface. He saw the lobster she carried and eyed the pincers with respect. Those looked like they could hurt. He made special note how she had grabbed the crustacean. "That's excellent! How many more do we need?"
Scarath swam over and peered down at the little animal that was the center of attention. It is so small Mine! He was pleased when Lilias thought of something helpful he could do. Maybe he couldn't fit into the tiny places to catch them, but he could hold the basket and give them a place to rest. She can climb onto my back, Mine, if she needs a break. The dragon then flopped and floundered his way to shore to grab the basket and then returned. Standing in water that just barely reached his back to make getting up easier.
"Scarath says he'd love to hold the basket and you can rest on his back if you want." S'kor nodded and took a deep breath. He dove down to the bottom.

Lilias, panting with excitement said, "Thank you, Scarath." She swam over and tried to climb the slippery dragon hide, but the lack of oxygen had sapped her strength some what. She slipped a few times and then managed to grab a neck ridge and haul herself up. Then she had the long scramble down his pack to where the basket was. She padded carefully in her bare feet. The dragon was wide but slippery as well and she slipped so bad once that she was flat on her stomach an clinging to the side of the dragon.
"Scarath, if you would, could you help? I don't want to have to start over again as pleasurable as all my tickling might be for you." she laughed out. "I'm too wet to be clinging very well to anything." she admitted.

S'kor searched high and low. Still he couldn't find any. His luck just wasn't in this. Foolishly he even risked getting pinched by reaching in to feel for one. It just proved that nothing else was down there. He thought if there had been a second one it must have scuttled off.
Just as he was about to surface again, a dark recess caught his attention. Could it be? He swam a little closer to look.
Scarath hummed happily. His green whirling eyes turned to watch Lilias walk down along his back. He lowered his head under the water and Lilias, then pushed her back up onto his back. With his neck craned around so his head was near enough to be used as a support. His human head sized eye blinked very close to her.
I will help. S'kor should be back soon.

Lilias got back on Scarath's back and stuffed her lobster into the basket. "Thank you Scarath." she said sincerily. She scuttled to the side of the dragon and dove neatly into the water. The dragon made such a sonvienient little island, she thought to herself. As she dove deeper she saw S'kor swimming nearby and paddled over the a nearby cave that they hadn't checked yet. She waved at S'kor as he passed evidently lobsterless.

Scarath watched the candidate scamper around and then return to the water. He could sense His' frusteration with the crustaceans.
S'kor surfaced and gulped air. With a toss of his head, he went his wet hair back out of his face. "Shardin' things." It shouldn't have been so hard to just find one. He used a hand to hold onto the dragon while he took deep gulps. Don't worry Scarath. We'll get you enough to make your treats. The rider was determined he would catch at least one of the buggers.
With a deep inhale, S'kor dove deep. He went back to check the dark recess first, then moved on slowly. Looking for places the creatures might be hinding. He swam slowly across the bottom.
