Dragonflight Pern Captain

The votes had taken several days to come in and be counted. There were many times throughout the tallying that the Weyrleaders could not project the outcome – the counts were so very close. Some results surprised them, others sang to the tune of what they expected. Over all, it was a nerve wracking time for the Weyrleaders – they’d cast their ballots in the name of their Weyrs, had settled plans for each outcome so that their world would be no longer stalled by such a thing.
The Ancientcrafter had been kept comfortable, but under observation, the entire time, his knowledge a truly precious thing. Some had wondered at the feasibility of his lofty offers, everyone knew how very unreliable the ancient machines and their tinkers, the Ancientcrafters, were.
Pern held its breath and the Council reconvened a handful of days after the last ballot boxes arrived. As Senior Gold of Malvren, it fell on her shoulders to announce to all present the results. Eirlyn had no doubt there would be uproar and great debate following and had steeled herself for this. Their Path had been chosen, and the people had made the choice – they could not truly complain.
Feynath’s roar was deafening, its volume and timbre carrying far and wide to grab the attention of any dragon at the Weyr. Her mental voice was even, demanding… commanding. Everyone would listen to her, dragons and riders alike. Dragons, Riders… The results of our debates have been tallied at last. The Council of Weyrleaders has finished their tallies and your will is known. Pern will trust the Ancientcrafter’s promises. We will fly together, or we will fall together. Carry this news to your comrades and friends. We will try these tricks.
Eirlyn smiled up at her dragon, proud as punch at how regal she’d sounded but she’d forgotten something…
The gold whuffed and tossed her head, nudging Hers with a forelimb as she tacked on the final bit, The delegations will retire in three days. All visitors have that time to speak freely with the Weyrleaders. Come to the Council field to do so. And that was that.
They’d arranged themselves in a less imposing format, welcoming of conversation among all the Riders present. There was surely going to be a lot of it. Eirlyn suspected there would be several ‘what now?’
And that question, at least, she had an answer to – though the Weyrs had agreed to wait until everyone was resettled back at their homes before moving.

He'd never heard a dragon inside his head before, there was that connection to his flits of course, but nothing quite like -that-. It left him wide eyed with wonder, was it like that for every rider every day? He would have to ask Inaari or T'ron, he'd been so fortunate as to pet their dragons, and that glorious green Watch-wyer. He was excited and yet... terrified by the prospects of the old technology. So long as they did not outright abandon what they knew very solidly worked... they would be safe with these changes though... right? Change was accepting things as they came, as they were needed wasn't it? Like the crimsons, blacks and silvers... surely it would help them too. He looked around seeking to strike up conversation to hear what others thought of how the vote had come out.

'I still think you should have spoken' Insisted Cheryth a few moments after they had both heard the Queens verdict. 'Doe's it really matter? The vote went the way I would have argued anyways' Ca'mil responded to the indignant crimson. 'it is always good to speak your mind' the dragon insisted but Ca'mil ignored her for the moment, there wasn't any winning this particular argument.
In truth while attending the speeches and technically being allowed to speak she'd declined the chance, she felt her position on the matter a bit...biased really considering her upbringing, surprisingly both sides of the argument had been compelling and she hadn't been sure which way things would swing until just now.
More curious about the questions the Weyrleaders would be asked then intending to ask a question herself Ca'mil wandered towards Malvrens Council Field. 'It will be nice to be home soon' piped in Cheryth and Ca'mil had to agree with that sentiment 'It will, Malvren is nice but it's not home'
Upon arrival she spotted a stranger looking like he might be up for a chat and paused near by "Has anyone asked anything yet?" She asked him not wanting to have missed out on anything.

"N...Not yet." Said the young man with a shake of his head and a small smile. His expression was wide eyed and full of awe. "I...w..wonder if I should ask to be sure we will not abandon f-farm craft all together, I..its a good change I think, b-but..." He shrugged slightly not wishing to offend with his 'change cautiously' philosophy.

Ca'mil nodded slightly, chewing on her lip for a few moments, sure she agreed with the choice to try the ancientcrafter's methods but she didn't see the wisdom in completely abandoning the other either. Then again the Weyrs only had so many resources..would they have enough to split between two separate ideas. The Queens announcement seemed to indicate they would be focusing on Ancientcraft for the most part. ' Tell the boy to ask then' came Cheryths opinion It is a good question and a valid concern, shows initiative' She concluded with an approving trill.
"Cheryth thinks you should ask, she's a fan of speaking up it seems" she told the man "Typical Crimson" she told him with a slight chuckle 'But no if your worried you should ask" she encouraged him.

S'kor was relieved the wait was finally over. The verdict was in and it looked promising. Though, privately he was surprised that a dragon gave the announcement. 'It makes sense Mine. Feynath can be heard by everyone here without mistakes. She is Eirlyn's dragon and so it is only fitting for her to make the final vote known.' The large bronze watched his rider from the edge of the field.
He stood on the Council field watching the reactions of the others around. Were they happy? Sad? Angry? S'kor considered strolling over to the Weyrleaders for a quick chat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Wykla scowled and sulked along the edges of the field. To think they'd choose to use that.... technology. She felt sure they'd regret their choice in the end.
Wyckla wasn't the only person lurking around the edges, Kazvar, the Wherhandler, was also doing a fairly normal routine for him, sitting on the outside edges and glaring in. He had a particular talent for the glaring, though this was slightly less effective since there was a small, extremely cheerful green flit skittering in circles around his shoulders and chirping brightly, considerably more cheerful than her partner. He was curious to listen to the questions, though he hadn't yet decided if he'd be asking any himself, though he was probably one of, if not the only, person in the crowd hoping that the gold wouldn't repeat what she'd done. He understood why the Weyrwoman had done it, but that didn't mean he particularly had to like it.
You could have said something. Luvith pointed out.
Yeah but everyone argued all the points I would have... S'kagi argued back, picking at his tunic sleeves as he wandered through the gathering. It had definitely been an exciting meeting, and he was wondering what the repercussions would be, if any, of the bronze who had caught the young gold. He'd spoken briefly with S'raid when the bronze rider had been at Trine, and wondered what would happen next. What were the rules of a bronze of one Weyr catching a dragon at another?
I don't know Luvith admitted. I guess we'll find out?
Jarest glanced around as though he were looking for the right person to ask right then and there, and followed that up quite shortly with a flush of red across his cheeks for having taken it so literally. "Y...you may be right, I've n-n-never been to something l-like this before though, h-have you? Y-you're both from another wyer...r-right?" He tipped his head curious having not remembered seeing them before... but he didn't get around to -everywhere- so it was hard to say.
B'nas silently raged, his face showing only barely what he felt at the decision made at the council. "sharding fools, each and every one that voted for that fool idea. I mean! we trusted the Ancientcraft once before, and look where that got us, more thread. Damn sharding fools the of them. "the desicion is made, It cannot be changed now, it will work, or it will not, that is yet to be determined. If it fails, then those that chose it, will feel shame. If it works, then we all triumph, because the Queens will lay Gold eggs once more at Benden. Was the reply and B'nas sighed, his body sagging a little, defeated by his dragon's wise words. "As usual Milnth, you are right, if it works, at least we wont have to trust those sharding Crimsons to clutch enough dragons" he shot back with a smile.
He headed over to the tables, "I need a drink" he muttered, both out loud and mentally "Don't make a fool of yourself with the ladies" replied Milnth with a amused rumble. "now, i wonder if there are any greens who need the company of a handsome Brown". Which had B'nas laughing. seemingly at nothing.
"There's plenty of that." S'kagi commented, to the open ended commentary about needing a drink, studying the provided refreshments with notable distraction, staring at them but not really seeing at them. He was distractedly twisting a lock of his bangs around one of his fingers as he did so, though after a second he blinked, rousting out of the distraction, blinked at B'nas, blinked again at his rider knots and looking apologetic. "Brownrider, Sir." He added, politely.
When we're a little older... Luvith let the thought hang, snorting in slight indignation. She still didn't like S'kagi's tendency to defer to almost anyone, and was more than ready, in her own mind, to be part of a wing and prove her mettle.
B'nas turned at the sound of a deferential voice, "about time someone in this sharding weyr showed respect where it's due" he thought to himself, that was until he saw the knots on the lad's shoulder, noting him as a Dragonrider. He covered his slight glare at the realization that the boy was Impressed to one of Those dragons. "I see you ride a Crimson" he said, his tone even, not giving away a thing. He took a drink from the table and gulped at it, eyeing the boy from behind his cup.
S'kagi's expression wavered, slightly uncertain if he'd imagined the flicker of disaproval on B'nas's face. He had imagined it right? Yeah he'd probably imagined it. Luvith was always informing him he was too paranoid about what people thought...and the question seemed to be in a reasonable tone.
"Yes Sir. My partner is Crimson Luvith." he offered. It was tempting to look to point her out, he was so proud of her. "We're from Trine."
Ca'mil smiled a bit "Well...nothing quite like this" She admitted "But then I don't think anyone here has" She pointed out after a few moments. Thankfully..imagine if these types of controversial decisions had to made all the time? She didn't think it would make life very pleasant, as it was she was sure many arguments would crop up over the subject in the future despite the Queens words.
'We're from Trine" Ca'mil confirmed before sticking her hand out to properly introduce herself "I'm Ca'mil and my partner is Cheryth" She assumed the man was from here at Malvren, a candidate she guessed and with the junior Golds flight he certainly had something to look forward to if that were the case.
B'nas nodded curtly when the lad answered "She was of the latest hatching yes?" he asked "the one with the stands Impressions?" he questioned the boy, he hadn't been there at the hatching but it had caused a stir, two stands Impressions and from what he'd heard, the crimson stands hatching had been from that doomed clutch.
"Mine, be nice" commented the big brown, then sought out the crimson His was being so a**l about "Hello there, i am Milnth, you are a very impressive shade i must say" he rumbled to her, his tone soft.
"MINLTH! Don't you DARE!" he scolded, his face betraying annoyance now, "Shardin' dragon" he muttered taking another long swallow of his drink, still eyeing the Crimson rider.
I'm pleased you think so.Luvith replied, making extra sure to slowly, deliberately, spread the wings she was so proud of, just to show off. I am Luvith, but I'm sure S'kagi told you and yours that.
"Yes, Sir." S'kagi replied. "From the queens clutch." The doomed crimsons clutch had a reputation by default, and he wasn't prepared to take it under false pretense. He and Luvith would build theirs from scratch.
He tilted his head slightly at B'nas's reaction. "...You've got a problem with your partner talking to Luvith?" He asked, hand dropping from his reflexive playing with his bangs, and eyes narrowing slightly. "I don't think I caught what Weyr you were from, Brownrider." He added, brushing the bangs out of his face to give B'nas a full stare.
